Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs) combine the benefits of metallic Zn anodes with those of aqueous electrolytes and are well suited for large-scale energy storage because of their inherent high safety, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness. Currently, the practical application of such batteries is hindered by the poor cycling performance of Zn anodes due to uncontrolled dendrite formation and severe side reactions, although recent reports suggest that these problems can be mitigated through the modification of Zn anodes with metal-based materials.Given that the mechanisms of improving Zn deposition and the structural evolution of metal-based materials have not been systematically reviewed, we herein systematically overview the metal-based materials used to stabilize Zn anodes, starting with a brief summary of the anode working mechanism and the challenges faced by stabilized Zn anodes. Subsequently, the design principles of Zn anodes stabilized by metal-based materials and the related recent progress are reviewed, and the key challenges and perspectives for the future development of such Zn anodes are proposed.

GRK2-YAP signaling is implicated in pulmonary arterial hypertension development

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by excessive proliferation of small pulmonary arterial vascular smooth muscle cells (PASMCs), endothelial dysfunction, and extracellular matrix remodeling. G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2) plays an important role in the maintenance of vascular tone and blood flow. However, the role of GRK2 in the pathogenesis of PAH is unknown.Methods: GRK2 levels were detected in lung tissues from healthy people and PAH patients. C57BL/6 mice, vascular smooth muscle cell-specificGrk2-knockout mice (Grk2?SM22), and littermate controls (Grk2flox/flox) were grouped into control and hypoxia mice (n = 8). Pulmonary hypertension (PH) was induced by exposure to chronic hypoxia (10%) combined with injection of the SU5416 (cHx/SU). The expression levels of GRK2 and Yes-associated protein (YAP) in pulmonary arteries and PASMCs were detected by Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining. The mRNA expression levels ofGrk2 and Yes-associated protein (YAP) in PASMCs were quantified with real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Wound-healing assay, 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo (-z-y1)-3,5-di-phenytetrazoliumromide (MTT) assay, and 5-Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU) staining were performed to evaluate the proliferation and migration of PASMCs. Meanwhile, the interaction among proteins was detected by immunoprecipitation assays.Results: The expression levels of GRK2 were upregulated in the pulmonary arteries of patients with PAH and the lungs of PH mice. Moreover, cHx/SU-induced PH was attenuated inGrk2?SM22 mice compared with littermate controls. The amelioration of PH inGrk2?SM22 mice was accompanied by reduced pulmonary vascular remodeling.In vitro study further confirmed thatGRK2 knock-down significantly altered hypoxia-induced PASMCs proliferation and migration, whereas this effect was severely intensified by overexpression ofGRK2. Predefined-time bipartite tracking consensus for second-order multi-agent systems with cooperative and antagonistic networks

This paper addresses the predefined-time bipartite tracking problem for second-order Multi-Agent Systems(MASs)with undirected signed topologies.A group of observers,which can estimate the state tracking errors for each follower in a pre-specified time,is proposed based on the time-varying function.In order to deal with the uncertainties caused by the unknown disturbances and the unknown input signal of the leader,we propose a predefined-time distributed control protocol based on the sliding mode control method.In addition,an auxiliary dynamic sliding variable is designed to reduce system chattering.Wetheoretically prove that the two control protocols can drive the state trajectories of each follower to reach the corresponding sliding surface within a specified time,and finally ensure that the prescribed-time bipartite tracking consensus is achieved for the MASs.Simulations are provided to verify the proposed schemes,and the simulation results further confirm the superiority of the adaptive control protocol.

Cardiomyocyte-targeted anti-inflammatory nanotherapeutics against myocardial ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury

Myocardial ischemia reperfusion(IR)injury is closely related to the overwhelming inflammation in the myocardium.Herein,cardiomyocyte-targeted nanotherapeutics were developed for the reactive oxygen species(ROS)-ultrasensitive co-delivery of dexamethasone(Dex)and RAGE small interfering RNA(siRAGE)to attenuate myocardial inflammation.PPTP,a ROSdegradable polycation based on PGE2-modified,PEGylated,ditellurium-crosslinked polyethylenimine(PEI)was developed to surface-decorate the Dex-encapsulated mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MSNs),which simultaneously condensed siRAGE and gated the MSNs to prevent the Dex pre-leakage.Upon intravenous injection to IR-injured rats,the nanotherapeutics could be efficiently transported into the inflamed cardiomyocytes via PGE2-assisted recognition of over-expressed E-series of prostaglandin(EP)receptors on the cell membranes.Intracellularly,the over-produced ROS degraded PPTP into small segments,promoting the release of siRAGE and Dex to mediate effective RAGE silencing(72%)and cooperative antiinflammatory effect.As a consequence,the nanotherapeutics notably suppressed the myocardial fibrosis and apoptosis,ultimately recovering the systolic function.Therefore,the current nanotherapeutics represent an effective example for the codelivery and on-demand release of nucleic acid and chemodrug payloads,and might find promising utilities toward the synergistic management of myocardial inflammation.

Autophagy enhanced by curcumin ameliorates inflammation in atherogenesis via the TFEB-P300-BRD4 axis

Disturbance of macrophage-associated lipid metabolism plays a key role in atherosclerosis.Crosstalk between autophagy deficiency and inflammation response in foam cells(FCs) through epigenetic regulation is still poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that in macrophages, oxidized lowdensity lipoprotein(ox-LDL) leads to abnormal crosstalk between autophagy and inflammation,thereby causing aberrant lipid metabolism mediated through a dysfunctional transcription factor EB (TFEB)-P300-bromodomain-containing protein 4(BRD4) axis. ox-LDL led to macrophage autophagy deficiency along with TFEB cytoplasmic accumulation and increased reactive oxygen species generation. This activated P300 promoted BRD4 binding on the promoter regions of inflammatory genes, consequently contributing to inflammation with atherogenesis. Particularly, ox-LDL activated BRD4-dependent super-enhancer associated with liquid-liquid phase separation(LLPS) on the regulatory regions of inflammatory genes. Curcumin(Cur) prominently restored FCs autophagy by promoting TFEB nuclear translocation, optimizing lipid catabolism, and reducing inflammation. The consequences of P300 and BRD4 on super-enhancer formation and inflammatory response in FCs could be prevented by Cur. Furthermore, the anti-atherogenesis effect of Cur was inhibited by macrophage-specific Brd4 overexpression or Tfeb knock-out in Apoe knock-out mice via bone marrow transplantation. The findings identify a novel TFEB-P300-BRD4 axis and establish a new epigenetic paradigm by which Cur regulates autophagy, inhibits inflammation, and decreases lipid content.

Analytic derivation of Monin-Obukhov similarity function for open atmospheric surface layer

The Monin-Obukhov(MO)similarity functionφm of the atmospheric surface layer(ASL)describing the deviation from the log law of the canonical turbulent boundary layer because of thermal stratification has been traditionally determined empirically.This study presents a unified analytic expression derived from a symmetry-based theory of wall turbulence,called structural ensemble dynamics(SED),which postulates a generalized dilation symmetry principle expressing the effect of the wall on turbulence,leading to an analytic multi-regimes expression for the mixing length.For ASL in unstable and stable conditions(i.e.,UC and SC),a unified two-regime formula of the mixing length is proposed,leading to aφm,similar to the Businger-Dyer(BD)formula;with a simplified model energy balance equation,φm is completely specified with no free parameter.Furthermore,the theory allows the study of the open ASL’s underlying additional physical processes such as bottom-up or top-down flux due to pressure variations Tp.Assuming that Tp is decomposed into shear-like and buoyancy-like components,we propose new explanations for two important features of typical ASL:a significantly smaller Karman constant of 0.36 and a varyingφm for SC mean speed profiles.The theory is validated by the data obtained at Kansas and also at Qingtu Lake Observation Array in Northern China for a variety of heat flux conditions.In conclusion,due to pressure variations,we assert that ASL is intrinsically open and that the current theory offers a new basis for its quantification.

H2S protects against diabetes-accelerated atherosclerosis by preventing the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome

Hydrogen sulfide(H2S) is an important messenger for its strong anti-inflammatory effects, which may be involved in multiple cardiovascular diseases. In our previous study, we revealed that H2S attenuated diabetesaccelerated atherosclerosis through suppressing oxidative stress. Here we report that GYY4137, a H2S donor,reduced the plaque formation of aortic roots and the levels of both intercellular cell adhesion molecule 1(ICAM1)and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1(VCAM1) in diabetes-accelerated atherosclerotic cells and mouse models.The inflammatory factors of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and MCP1 were also significantly reduced by GYY4137.Mechanically, GYY4137 suppressed the activation of pyrin domain containing protein 3(NLRP3) inflammasome in diabetes-accelerated atherosclerosis conditions. Upon knockdown of NLRP3, the increase of ICAM1 and VCAM1 caused by high glucose and ox LDL could be reversed, indicating that H2S protected the endothelium by inhibiting the activity of NLRP3 inflammasome. In conclusion, our study indicates that GYY4137 effectively protects against the development of diabetes-accelerated atherosclerosis by inhibiting inflammasome activation.

Fish transplantation and stress-related biomarkers as useful tools for assessing water quality

The active biomonitoring （ABM） approach was investigated using species of indigenous （from a pristine site） and transplanted （to a polluted area） fish Carassius auratus as an indicator organism of water/sediment pollution in Taihu Lake, a highly urbanized and industrialized area. The biotransformation enzymes 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase （EROD）, reduced glutathione （GSH） content, catalase activities （CAT） and lipoperoxidation （as MDA） in liver were determined as stress-related biomarkers during the field exposure period. At the same time, the contents of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs）, polychlorinated biphenyls （PCBs）, organochlorine pesticides （OCPs） and heavy metals in the surface sediments of biomonitoring sites were also determined. The results indicate that the in situ exposed organisms were stressed. The marked increases of EROD, GSH, CAT and MDA in transplanted animals, suggested their potential application as biomarkers in pollution monitoring. Integrated biomarker response （IBR） was used to evaluate an integrated impact of toxicants from different polluted sites.

γ-catenin alleviates cardiac fibrosis through inhibiting phosphorylation of GSK-3β

Cardiac fibrosis is a common pathological change of many cardiovascular diseases. β-catenin has been shown to promote fibrosis. However, the precise role of its homolog γ-catenin in the process of fibrosis remains largely unclear. In this study, we found that the expression of γ-catenin was significantly decreased in angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ)-induced cardiac fibrosis model, contrary to most reports of β-catenin. Overexpression of γ-catenin in cardiac fibroblasts(CFs) significantly inhibited the expression of α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA), whereas knocking down the expression of γ-catenin with si RNA promoted the occurrence of cardiac fibrosis.Mechanistically, γ-catenin could bind to GSK-3β to inhibit the phosphorylation of GSK-3β, therefore preventing cardiac fibrosis. Our study shows that γ-catenin is an important protective factor in cardiac fibrosis, which provides a new potential target for the treatment of cardiac fibrosis.
