Comparative genotoxicity of water processed by three drinking water treatment plants with different water treatment procedures

Advanced water treatment is commonly used to remove micropollutants such as pesticides,endocrine disrupting chemicals,and disinfection byproducts in modem drinking water treatment ***,little attention has been paid to the changes in the genotoxicity of substances remaining in the water following the different water treatment *** this study,samples were collected from three drinking water treatment plants with different treatment *** treated water from each process was analyzed and compared for genotoxicity and the formation of organic *** genotoxicity was evaluated by an umu test,and the acute and chronic toxicity was analyzed through Ecological Structure-Activity Relationship(ECOSAR).The results of the umu test indicated that biological activated carbon reduced the genotoxicity by 38%,77%,and 46%in the three drinking water treatment plants,respectively,while chlorination increased the *** chromatograph-mass spectrometry analysis revealed that halogenated hydrocarbons and aromatic compounds were major contributors to *** results of ECOSAR were not consistent with those of the umu ***,we conclude that genotoxicity cannot be determined using ECOSAR.

Magnesia modified LaCoO3 was prepared by a facile one-step sol-gel method and used for removal of dilute *** with the conventional doping technique,the obtained LaCoO3@MgO-x exhibits pseudo core-shell structure and shows superior catalytic *** methane conversion exceeds90%at 532℃on LaCoO3@MgO-0.1,while only 60%of methane is conversed using the doped perovskite *** high catalytic performance of LaCoO3@MgO-0.1 is mainly attributed to the adjustment of surface acid-base properties by the MgO shell *** to density functional theory(DFT)calculation,the methane is more likely to be adsorbed and cracked on LaCoO3@*** in situ DRIFTS shows that CH3-O-CH3 intermediate specie is *** pseudo core-shell structure also enhances the stability and the LaCoO3@MgO-0.1 maintains high activity after working for 100 *** above results demonstrate that surface modification by magnesia is an effective strategy for improving LaCoO3 catalytic performance.

Systematic understanding on the magnetic field intensity dependent microstructure evolution and re-crystallization behavior in a Co-B eutectic alloy under a constant undercooling(ΔT≈100 K)were carried *** of the magnetic field,the comparable size of divorced FCC-Co and Co_(3)B eutectic ellipsoidal grains coexist with a few regular *** the magnetic field is less than 15 T,the elongated primary FCC-Co dendrites parallel to the magnetic field with the dispersed FCC-Co nano-particles em-bedded within the Co_(3)B matrix occupy the inter-dendrite *** the magnetic field increases to 20 T,the FCC-Co/Co_(2)B anomalous eutectic colonies *** formation mechanism of Co_(2)B phase is discussed from several aspects of the competitive nucleation,the chemical redistribution induced by the thermomagnetic-induced convection and magnetic dipole interaction,and the strain-induced ***,the application of magnetic field is found to promote recrystallization,proved by the lower density of misorientation,the appearance of FCC-Co annealed twins and more Co_(3)B *** work could further enrich our knowledge about the magnetic-dependent microstructure evolution and recrystallization process in the undercooled Co-B system and provide guidance for controlling the microstructures and properties under extreme conditions.

In this paper,we design a hydrostatic electroactive soft actuator(HESA)inspired by octopus transverse *** introduce the advantage of laser processing technology in HESA fabrication compared with existing similar actuators and discuss the effect of laser processing on the outer membrane of the *** addition,a mathematical model is established for the single channel of the actuator,and the geometric parameters of the actuator are optimized by mathematical model simulation and *** demonstrate the motion effect of the *** experiments show that the single piece of the actuator can achieve 32.2%strain in the axial direction and 7.8%strain in the radius ***,we stack three actuators together and describe their motion characteristics at different *** stacked actuators can realize axial elongation,radial shrinkage,and bend,which covers all the motion modes of the octopus biological transverse *** study may lay a foundation for implementing the biomimetic soft actuator mimicking the octopus’s transverse musculature,which is one less discussed but crucial muscular composition in the octopus-inspired arm research.

Efficient acoustic communication across the water-air interface remains a great challenge owing to the extreme acoustic impedance *** present acoustic metamaterials can be constructed on the free air-water interface for enhancing the acoustic transmission because of the interface *** strategies overcoming this difficulty were limited in practical usage,as well as the wide-angle and multifrequency acoustic ***,we report a simple and practical way to obtain the wide-angle and multifrequency water-air acoustic transmission with a tunable fluid-type acoustic metasurface(FAM).The FAM has a transmission enhancement of acoustic energy over 200 times,with a thickness less than the wavelength in water by three orders of *** FAM can work at an almost arbitrary water-to-air incident angle,and the operating frequencies can be flexibly *** transmissions can be obtained with multilayer *** experiments,the FAM is demonstrated to be stable enough for practical applications and has the transmission enhancement of over 20 dB for wide *** transmission enhancement of music signal across the water-air interface was performed to demonstrate the applications in acoustic *** FAM will benefit various applications in hydroacoustics and oceanography.

Although the mTOR-4E-BP1 signaling pathway is implicated in aging and aging-related disorders,the role of 4E-BP1 in regulating human stem cell homeostasis remains largely ***,we report that the expression of 4E-BP1 decreases along with the senescence of human mesenchymal stem celis(hMSCs).Genetic inactivation of 4E-BP1 in hMSCs compromises mitochondrial respiration,increases mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(Ros)production,and accelerates cellular ***,the absence of 4E-BP1 destabilizes proteins in mitochondrial respiration complexes,especially several key subunits of complex III including *** expression of 4E-BP1 attenuates mitochondrial abnormalities and alleviates cellular senescence in 4E-BP1-deficient hMSCs as well as in physiologically aged *** findings together demonstrate that 4E-BP1 functions as a geroprotector to mitigate human stem cell senescence and maintain mitochondrial homeostasis,particularly for the mitochondrial respiration complex Il,thus providing a new potential target to counteract human stem cell senescence.

Dear Editor,Cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)are the leading cause of death ***,diagnosing and treating CVD remains at the forefront for clinicians while identifying targetable disease mechanisms in preclinical models are focus areas for researchers and drug developers(Cai et al.,2022a).The polymorphic protein apolipoprotein E(APOE),central to lipid transport and metabolism,is well-recognized for the role of its isoforms as important predictors for human cardiovascular disorders and neurodegenerative diseases(Tudorache et al.,2017).Plasma APOE is generated primarily from liver hepatocytes,accounting for around 75%of the APOE production from the whole body(Getz and Reardon,2009),and plays important functional roles in monocytes/macrophages,adipocytes,and the central nervous system(Kockx et al.,2018).However,despite the fact that APOE is widely expressed in different mammalian cells,studies on the functional roles of APOE mostly focus on its extracellular secreted form,and the specific effects of APOE,particularly intracellular form in cell types closely related to human cardiovascular diseases are therefore still poorly understood.
