Thermal stress causes the overproduction and toxic accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which seems to be correlated with coral bleaching and, ultimately, death. The reduction of ROS concentration within the coral holobiont could minimize the effects of thermal stress and support efforts to reduce coral decline globally. In the current study, we explored the physiological responses of Pocillopora damicornis to ROS-scavenging bacteria inoculation as well as the microbiome restructuring that correlates with P. damicornis's resilience to thermal stress after probiotic inoculation. Inoculation of corals with ROS-scavenging bacteria enhanced coral health and reduced ROS concentration. Furthermore, the enhanced coral thermal resistance promoted by ROS-scavenging bacteria was also correlated with an overall coral microbiome restructuring. In addition, the complex network relationships between bacteria and Symbiodiniaceae in corals after ROS-scavenging bacteria inoculation contributed to corals' resilience to high temperatures. Besides, coral heat tolerance bacterial biomarkers, such as Myxococcota, were enriched in corals with added ROS-scavenging bacteria. Collectively, our findings validate the selected ROS-scavenging bacteria as coral probiotics that could help corals resist thermal stress on a short timescale. Additionally, our data contribute to our understanding of the potential interactions between different members of the coral holobiont and the use of probiotics as tools to aid coral restoration efforts.

This article examines the abundant marine mollusc,and fish remains at the Jingtoushan shell midden(8,300 to7,800 cal a BP)in Zhejiang Province,China,to investigate the fishing economy,community development,the palaeoenvironment,and their interactions among the prehistoric populations in the lower Yangtze River Basin and southeastern coastal *** also attempts to explore the prosperity and decline of coastal settlements in China during the Neolithic Age and the potential reasons for their rise and fall,*** on the ecological and biological principles of marine animals,standard zooarchaeological methods and radiocarbon dating analysis are used for sampling,identification,measurement,and *** show that at least 11 mollusc taxa and 14 fish taxa can be identified from the Jingtoushan faunal *** ancient Jingtoushan residents possibly lived in a settlement close to the coast and engaged in inshore and offshore fishing,hunting,and gathering as their primary subsistence strategies,with low-level rice cultivation as a supplementary means of ***,the changes in the coastal environment could be one of the reasons why the Jingtoushan residents abandoned their *** research contributes to Chinese Neolithic archaeology with new evidence of the exploitation of marine resources around 8000 a BP in the eastern coastal areas and the relationship between Neolithic community development and environmental changes.

Changes in extreme high temperature warning indicators over China under different global warming levels

High temperature warning indicators play a pivotal role in meteorological departments,serving as crucial criteria for issuing warnings that guide both social production and daily *** their importance,limited studies have explored the relationship between different global warming levels and changes in high temperature warning *** this study,we analyze data from 2,419 meteorological stations over China and utilize the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)models to examine historical changes in high temperature warning indicators used by the China Meteorological *** evaluate model performance and estimate future changes in these indicators using an annual cycle bias correction *** results indicate that since 1961,the number of high temperature days(TX35d and TX40d)and length of season(TX40d and TX40l)with daily maximum temperature reaching or exceeding 35℃ and 40℃ have increased over *** intensity of high temperatures(TXx)has strengthened and the geographical extent affected by high temperatures has *** 2022,the occurrence of 40℃ high temperatures surges,with Eastern China experiencing a two-day increase in TX40d and an extended seasonal length in TX40l by over five *** CMIP6 models have underestimated the high temperature indictors associated with 35℃ during historical periods,notable difference is not observed between the models and observations for TX40d and TX40l,given their rare ***,future projections,after bias correction,indicate that the increasing trends for 35℃ and 40℃ high temperature days and length of season become more pronounced than the raw projection,suggesting a more severe increase than that anticipated *** global warming intensifies,the high temperature days and length of season are projected to increase non-linearly,while the intensity of high temperatures is expected to increase *** every 1℃ increase in global temperature,the intensity is

Gas-produced water is an accompanying wastewater in the natural gas extraction process,and it is a potential liquid lithium resource that contains a considerable amount of *** study investigated the feasibility of using manganese-based ion sieves to adsorb and extract lithium from gas-produced *** we focused on the applicability of two different granulation methods,extrusion and droplet,in gas-produced water *** types of H_(1.33)Mn_(1.67)O_(4) particles were prepared by the extrusion method(EHMO)and the droplet method(DHMO).The porosity of DHMO was much higher than that of EHMO,and the adsorption performance of DHMO increased with the decrease of binder *** prepared with a binder concentration of 0.14 g·ml^(-1)exhibited the best adsorption performance in gas-produced water,and the Li^(+)adsorption capacity could reach 25.14 mg·g^(-1).In gas-produced water,the adsorption equilibrium of DHMO only took 9 h,and the adsorption process conformed to the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic *** pore diffusion model(PDM)could well describe its adsorption ***,DHMO showed a great selectivity to Li^(+),and the selectivity order of DHMO in gas-produced water was Li^(+)>Ba^(2+)>>Mg^(2+),Ca^(2+),Sr^(2+)>>Na^(+)>>K^(+).After 20 cycles,the Li^(+)adsorption capacity was still higher than 17.30 mg·g^(-1),and the rate of manganese dissolution was less than 1%.

A novel,cheap and highly efficient Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C nanocomposite has been successfully constructed through simple one-step carbonization method in a nitrogen *** in the precursor can effectively anchor molybdenum-based Keggin-type polyoxometallate and NiCo-layered double hydroxide through electrostatic and coordination interactions,which avoids the aggregation of catalyst particles during the pyrolysis *** optimization,the obtained Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C possesses small size(3-8 nm),large specific surface area and hierarchical pore *** importantly,Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C presents remarkable hydrogen evolution reaction activity with low overpotentials in 0.5 mol·L^(-1)H_(2)SO_(4)(102.3 mV)and 1 mol·L^(-1)KOH(95 mV)to afford the current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2),as well as small Tafel slopes of 82.49 and 99.92 mV·dec^(-1),***,this catalyst also shows outstanding stability for 12 h without a significant change in current *** excellent catalytic performance of Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C can put down to the synergistic effect between multiple components and the small size of the *** work provides unique insights into the preparation of efficient transition metal-based catalysts for HER.

In this work, aramid nanoparticles (ANPs) were prepared in dimethyl formamide (DMF) solution containing high impact polystyrene (HIPS) via a bottom-up approach. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images showed that the obtained ANPs were evenly distributed in the HIPS matrix without any agglomeration. Chemical composition of the ANPs, i.e., poly(p-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine) (PPTA), was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). The ANP/HIPS composites, obtained after ethanol precipitation, were added to neat HIPS as fillers to fabricate ANP/HIPS composite sheets. The surface roughness and the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the sheets were characterized by atomic force microscope (AFM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. Compared with neat HIPS, the mechanical properties of the composite sheet were significantly improved, and the Young's modulus increased from 246.55 MPa to 2025.12 MPa, the tensile strength increased from 3.07 MPa to 29.76 MPa, and the toughness increased from 0.32 N/mm(2) to 3.92 N/mm(2), with an increase rate of 721%, 869% and 1125%, respectively. Moreover, the thermal stability of the composites improved with the increase in ANP content.
