Quantum Chaos has been investigated for about a half *** is an old yet vigorous interdisciplinary field with new concepts and interesting topics emerging *** years have witnessed a growing interest in quantum chaos in relativistic quantum systems,leading to the still developing field of relativistic quantum *** purpose of this paper is not to provide a thorough review of this area,but rather to outline the basics and introduce the key concepts and methods in a concise way.A few representative topics are discussed,which may help the readers to quickly grasp the essentials of relativistic quantum chaos.A brief overview of the general topics in quantum chaos has also been provided with rich references.

A new dynamically installed plate anchor, the Flying Wing Anchor~?, has been developed as a sustainable anchor concept for deep-water offshore wind turbines. The anchor is firstly installed by free-fall penetration and then followed by drag embedment. If the anchor is subjected to environmental loads, it dives deeper to mobilize a higher capacity. This study presents a series of free-fall penetration tests with model anchors in different weights to assess the anchor behavior during the free-fall penetration performance in one-layer soil with a constant shear strength profile. Anchor velocities and embedment depths were measured by a magnetometer. An energy-based model and a force-based model were calibrated against the test results of model anchors with different weights. Based on the calibrated force-based model, a series of design charts were developed to estimate the embedment depth of anchors in different sizes and with different impact velocities in various marine clays. The framework to plot design charts presented herein can be potentially applied to other dynamically installed anchors to predict embedment depth in engineering practice.

The six-degree-of-freedom movement of an offshore plate anchor is essential to evaluate anchor *** an emerging technology,magnetometer has shown its potential in measuring the six-degree-of-freedom movement of offshore anchors under 1-g model laboratory *** paper presents the feasibility of adopting a magnetometer system in geotechnical centrifuge *** factors that may affect the measuring accuracy of the magnetometer system are *** results demonstrate that the magnetometer system can accurately catch the anchor movement in the soils with the restrictions of:(1)the model anchor was made with stainless steel;(2)the system was placed at least 30 cm away from the side wall of soil model tank;(3)started the measurement when the artificial acceleration by centrifuge was stable.

Layered soil profiles create challenges for foundation installation and detrimentally affect the foundation *** research explored the free-fall penetration behavior of a new dynamically installed plate anchor,the Flying Wing Anchor?,in layered soil *** new concept anchor combines the advantages of low-cost installation of torpedo piles and high efficiency of plate *** is initially installed through free-fall like a torpedo pile,and followed by drag embedment like a plate *** methodology is to perform free-fall penetration tests with a model anchor in a variety of test beds containing marine clays with different profiles of undrained shear strength versus depth.A calibrated prediction model accounting for the effects of strain-rate and stiff layer produces results similar to those from the model *** design curves were developed based on the calibrated analytical model,and are valuable to estimate the impact velocity thresholds of prototype anchor to penetrate through stiff *** free-fall penetration tests indicated that the penetration ability of FWA?increases with the increased impact *** new dynamically embedded plate anchor can penetrate through the stiff layers that would cause problems for the conventional plate anchor,such as the drag embedded anchor,plowing on the top of stiff layer instead of breaking into ***,the new dynamically embedded plate anchor can provide a possible solution for layered soil profiles in deep water.

Data-based detection and quantification of causation in complex,nonlinear dynamical systems is of paramount importance to science,engineering,and *** by the widely used methodology in recent years,the cross-map-based techniques,we develop a general framework to advance towards a comprehensive understanding of dynamical causal mechanisms,which is consistent with the natural interpretation of *** particular,instead of measuring the smoothness of the cross-map as conventionally implemented,we define causation through measuring the scaling law for the continuity of the investigated dynamical system *** uncovered scaling law enables accurate,reliable,and eficient detection of causation and assessment of its strength in general complex dynamical systems,outperforming those existing representative *** continuity scaling-based framework is rigorously established and demonstrated using datasets from model complex systems and the real world.

The direct contact heating of crude oil with steam is a promising technique for improving crude oil transportation in pipelines. Crude oil temperature is increased greatly by a small quantity of steam due to the high steam latent heat and direct contact heat transfer. A jet pump was developed for injecting steam into oil in order to get a high efficiency by transferring momentum and energy from a high-velocity jet to ambient fluid. The jet pump was designed based on the free injection principle, which has no rotation parts and no converging mixing chamber, therefore it would not be blocked by the viscous crude oil. The technical feasibility of this method has been tested in the Liaohe Oilfield of China.

Role of surface defects of carbon nanotubes on catalytic performance of barium promoted ruthenium catalyst for ammonia synthesis

Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) with abundant surface defects are prepared by a liquid oxidation and thermal annealing method. The defective CNTs-D supported Ba–Ru/CNTs-D catalysts exhibit superior catalytic performance in ammonia synthesis with a TOF be increased up to 0.30 s-1, which is 2.5 times of oxidized CNTs-O supported Ba–Ru/CNTs-O catalysts and 5 times of the Ba–Ru/CNTs. The characterizations by CO chemisorption, transmission electron microscope, Raman, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the uniformly well dispersed Ru NPs can be stabilized on the defective sites of CNTs-D. The great improvement of the catalytic performance and stability of the Ba–Ru/CNTs-D is contributed to the strong interaction between Ru NPs and surface defect of the CNTs.

Synchronization within synchronization: transients and intermittency in ecological networks

Transients are fundamental to ecological systems with significant implications to management,conservation and biological control. We uncover a type of transient synchronization behavior in spatial ecological networks whose local dynamics are of the chaotic, predator–prey type. In the parameter regime where there is phase synchronization among all the patches, complete synchronization(i.e. synchronization in both phase and amplitude) can arise in certain pairs of patches as determined by the network symmetry—henceforth the phenomenon of ‘synchronization within synchronization.’ Distinct patterns of complete synchronization coexist but, due to intrinsic instability or noise, each pattern is a transient and there is random, intermittent switching among the patterns in the course of time evolution. The probability distribution of the transient time is found to follow an algebraic scaling law with a divergent average transient lifetime. Based on symmetry considerations, we develop a stability analysis to understand these phenomena. The general principle of symmetry can also be exploited to explain previously discovered,counterintuitive synchronization behaviors in ecological networks.

Volatilization behaviors of diesel oil from the soils

The volatilization of diesel oil, Shengli crude oil and 90# gasoline on glass surface of petri dishes were conducted at the ambient temperature of 25℃. Diesel oil evaporates in a power manner, where the loss of mass is approximately power with time. 90# gasoline evaporates in a logarithmic with time. Where as the volatilization of Shengli crude oil fit either the logarithmic or power equation after different time, and has similar R2. And the effects of soil type and diesel oil and water content on volatilization behavior in unsaturated soil were studied in this paper. Diesel oil and water content in the soils play a large role in volatilization from soils. Appropriate water helps the wicking action but too much water stops it. The wicking action behaves differently in four different types of soils in the same volatilization experiment of 18% diesel oil content and air-dry condition.
