Chaetocin reactivates the lytic replication of Epstein-Barr virus from latency via reactive oxygen species

Oxidative stress, regarded as a negative effect of free radicals in vivo, takes place when organisms suffer from harmful stimuli. Some viruses can induce the release of reactive oxygen species （ROS） in infected cells, which may be closely related with their pathogenicity. In this report, chaetocin, a fimgal metabolite reported to have antimicrobial and cytostatic activity, was studied for its effect on the activation of latent Epstein-Barr virus （EBV） in B95-8 cells. We found that chaetocin remarkably up-regulated EBV lytic transcription and DNA replication at a low concentration （50 nmol L-l）. The activation of latent EBV was accompanied by an increased cellular ROS level. N-acetyl-L-cysteine （NAC）, an ROS inhibitor, suppressed chaetocin-induced EBV activation. Chaetocin had little effect on histone H3K9 methylation, while NAC also significantly reduced H3K9 methylation. These results suggested that chaetocin reactivates latent EBV primarily via ROS pathways.

In this paper we discuss the Einstein-Kahler metric on the third Cartan-Hartogs domain Y111（n, q; K）. Firstly we get the complete Einstein Kahler metric with explicit form on Y111（n, q; K） in the case of K=q/2 ＋ 1/q-1. Secondly we obtain the holomorphic sectional curvature under this metric and get the sharp estimate for this holomorphic curvature. Finally we prove that the complete Einstein-Kahler metric is equivalent to the Bergman metric on Y111（n, q; K） in case of K=q/2＋1/q-1.

目的观察泛视网膜光凝联合Ahmed减压阀植入术治疗新生血管性青光眼的临床效果。方法对28例（30眼）新生血管性青光眼先行泛视网膜光凝，5—7d后行Ahmed减压阀植入术。观察手术前后的最佳矫正视力、眼压、虹膜新生血管消退情况及术后并发症。结果治疗后最佳矫正视力提高13眼，无变化12眼，下降5眼；治疗前平均眼压（43．2±5．4）mmHg（1mmHg=0．133kPa），术后1周、1个月及3个月平均眼压为（12．9±4．9）mmHg、（14．8±4．5）mmHg、（16．3±3．9）mmHg（t=16．584、t=17．576、t=14．328，P〈0．05），治疗前后对比差异有统计学意义。术后并发症：前房形成迟缓7眼，前房积血4眼，引流管堵塞2眼，脉络膜脱离2眼。30眼虹膜新生血管全部或部分消退，临床症状缓解。结论采用泛视网膜光凝联合Ahmed减压阀植入术治疗新生血管性青光眼既能降低眼压，又能减少术后并发症及挽救视力，是新生血管性青光眼的一种安全有效的治疗方法。

This manuscript presents our numerical and experimental results regarding the performance characteristics of lean bum catalytic combustion for gas turbine application. The reactant transport was assumed to be controlled by both bulk diffusion as well as surface kinetics, implemented by means of an approximate reaction rate equation and empirical coefficients to incorporate reaction mechanism. Experimental and numerical results were compared to examine the effects of methane mole fraction, inlet temperature, operating pressure, velocity and hydrogen spe- cies on combustion intensity. The results indicate that inlet temperature is the most significant parameter that im- pacts operation of the catalytic combustor and the most effective methods for improving the methane conversion are increasing the inlet temperature and increasing the methane mole fraction. Simulations from ID heterogene- ous plug flow model can capture the trend of catalytic combustion and describe the behavior of the catalytic mo- nolith in detail. The addition of hydrogen will provide heat release by the exothermie combustion reaction so that the reactants reach a temperature at which methane oxidation can light-off.

Complete replacement of aromatic carbon bonds in graphene by carbyne chains gives rise to supergraphene whose mechanical properties are expected to depend on its structure. However, this dependence is to date unclear. In this paper, explicit expressions for the in-plane stiffness and Poisson＇s ratio of supergraphene are obtained using a molecular mechanics model. The theoretical results show that the in-plane stiffness of supergraphene is drastically（at least one order） smaller than that of graphene, whereas its Poisson＇s ratio is higher than 0.5. As the index number increases（i.e., the length of carbyne chains increases and the bond density decreases）, the in-plane stiffness of supergraphene decreases while the Poisson＇s ratio increases. By analyzing the relation among the layer modulus, in-plane stiffness and Poisson＇s ratio, it is revealed that the mechanism of the faster decrease in the in-plane stiffness than the bond density is due to the increase of Poisson＇s ratio. These findings are useful for future applications of supergraphene in nanomechanical systems.
