Effectiveness and safety of seven oral Chinese patent medicines as adjuvant therapy for cancer-related anemia: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of seven oral Chinese patent medicines(CPMs)as adjuvant therapy for cancer-related anemia(CRA)by network meta-analysis(NMA).Methods:A literature search to obtain randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of seven oral CPMs in the adjuvant treatment of CRA was conducted in multiple databases from the inception to April *** RevMan5.3 and R 4.1.1 software were used for ***:We ultimately included 29 RCTs with 2140 *** meta-analysis showed that Fufang E'jiao syrup(FFEJS),Shengxuebao mixture(SXBM),Shengxuening tablets(SXNT),Jianpi Shengxue granules(JPSXG),and Yixuesheng capsule(YXSC)combined with basic Western treatment(BWT)could improve the hemoglobin(HGB)*** combined with BWT could improve the red blood cell(RBC).FFEJS combined with BWT improved the Karnofsky performance status(KPS).NMA showed that FFEJS,JPSXG,SXBM,and SXNT plus BWT improved HGB better than Shengxue tablets(SXT)plus BWT,with top three ranking results being JPSXG plus BWT>SXNT plus BWT>FFEJS plus *** plus BWT,JPSXG plus BWT,SXBM plus BWT,SXNT plus BWT,and SXT plus BWT improved RBC better than BWT,with top three ranking results being SXNT plus BWT>JPSXG plus BWT>FFEJS plus *** terms of the KPS score,compared with SXT plus BWT,FFEJS,JPSXG,SXBM,SXNT,and Yizhong Shengxue capsule(YZSXC)plus BWT had higher KPS,with top three ranking results being SXBM plus BWT>JPSXG plus BWT>FFEJS plus ***:Our NMA demonstrated that seven oral CPMs used as adjuvant treatment of CRA had a definite clinical *** not only increases the levels of HGB and RBC to enhance the clinical effect but also improves patients'quality of *** accurate conclusions need to be verified by more high-quality RCTs.

The shear mechanical behavior is regarded as an essential factor affecting the stability of the surrounding rocks in underground *** shear strength and failure mechanisms of layered rock are significantly affected by the foliation *** shear tests were conducted on cubic slate samples with foliation angles of 0°,30°,45°,60°,and 90°.The effect of foliation angles on failure patterns,acoustic emission(AE)characteristics,and shear strength parameters was *** on AE characteristics,the slate failure process could be divided into four stages:quiet period,step-like increasing period,dramatic increasing period,and remission period.A new empirical expression of cohesion for layered rock was proposed,which was compared with linear and sinusoidal cohesion expressions based on the results made by this paper and previous *** comparative analysis demonstrated that the new expression has better prediction ability than other *** proposed empirical equation was used for direct shear simulations with the combined finite-discrete element method(FDEM),and it was found to align well with the experimental *** both computational efficiency and accuracy,it was recommended to use a shear rate of 0.01 m/s for FDEM to carry out direct shear *** balance the relationship between the number of elements and the simulation results in the direct shear simulations,the recommended element size is 1 mm.

Synthesis of low-cost porous ceramic microspheres from waste gangue for dye adsorption

Low-cost porous ceramic microspheres from waste gangue were prepared by simple spray drying and subsequent calcination. Effects of calcination temperature on phase and microstructure evolution, specific surface area, pore structure, and dye adsorption mechanism of the microspheres were investigated systematically. Results showed that the microspheres were spherical, with some mesopores both on the surface and inside the spheres. The phase kept kaolinite after calcined at 800 and 900 ℃ and transformed into mullite at 1000 ℃. The microspheres calcined at 800 ℃ showed larger adsorption capacity and removal efficiency than those calcined at higher temperatures. Methylene blue(MB) and basic fuchsin(BF) removal efficiency reached 100% and 99.9% with the microsphere dosage of 20 g/L, respectively, which was comparable to that of other low-cost waste adsorbents used to remove dyes in the literature. Adsorption kinetics data followed the pseudosecond-order kinetic model, and the isotherm data fit the Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption process was attributed to multiple adsorption mechanisms including physical adsorption, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic interactions between dyes and gangue microspheres. The low-cost porous microspheres with excellent cyclic regeneration properties are promising absorbent for dyes in wastewater filtration and adsorption treatment.

How does the quantum-to-classical transition of measurement occur?This question is vital for both foundations and applications of quantum ***,we develop a new measurement-based framework for characterizing the classical and quantum free electron-photon interactions and then experimentally test *** first analyze the transition from projective to weak measurement in generic light-matter interactions and show that any classical electron-laserbeam interaction can be represented as an outcome of weak *** particular,the appearance of classical point-particle acceleration is an example of an amplified weak value resulting from weak measurement.A universal factor,exp(-Γ^(2)=2),quantifies the measurement regimes and their transition from quantum to classical,whereΓcorresponds to the ratio between the electron wavepacket size and the optical *** measurement-based formulation is experimentally verified in both limits of photon-induced near-field electron microscopy and the classical acceleration regime using a *** results shed new light on the transition from quantum to classical electrodynamics,enabling us to employ the essence of the wave-particle duality of both light and electrons in quantum measurement for exploring and applying many quantum and classical light-matter interactions.

Pure bulk orbital and spin photocurrent in two-dimensional ferroelectric materials

We elucidate a bias-free light-induced orbital and spin current through nonlinear response theory,which generalizes the wellknown bulk photovoltaic effect in centrosymmetric broken materials from charge to the spin and orbital degrees of *** use two-dimensional nonmagnetic ferroelectric materials(such as GeS and its analogs)to illustrate this bulk orbital/spin photovoltaic effect,through first-principles *** materials possess a vertical mirror symmetry and time-reversal symmetry but lack of inversion *** reveal that in addition to the conventional photocurrent that propagates parallel to the mirror plane(under linearly polarized light),the symmetric forbidden photocurrent perpendicular to the mirror actually contains electrons flow,which carries angular momentum information and move *** generates a pure orbital moment current with zero electric charge *** hidden photo-induced pure orbital current could lead to a pure spin current via spin–orbit coupling ***,a four-terminal device can be designed to detect and measure photo-induced charge,orbital,and spin currents *** these currents couple with electric polarization P,hence their amplitude and direction can be manipulated through ferroelectric phase *** work provides a route to generalizing nanoscale devices from their photo-induced electronics to orbitronics and spintronics.

Effects of antioxidants on homocysteine thiolactone-induced apoptosis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells

Background and objectives Hyperhomocysteinemia is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Homocysteine thiolactone (HcyT), one of the homocysteine metabolites in vivo, is toxic both in vivo and in vitro. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HcyT on apoptotic damage in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and the role of antioxidants in the reduction of HcyT-induced apoptosis. Methods HUVECs were cultured in DMEM supplemented with 20% heat inactivated fetal bovine serum cell cultures were maintained in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere at 37 ℃. Cytotoxicity was determined by MTT assay,which consists of hypodiploid cells with propidium iodide labeling and intracellular reactive oxygen species levels using 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein diacetate as the probe by flow cytometry. Results HcyT (250-2000μM) induced HUVECs apoptosis in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. Reactive oxygen species levels rose in response to increasing HcyT concentrations at 24-h *** reduction of cell apoptosis by N-acetylcysteine, vitamin E, or pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate, occurred simultaneously with a significant decrease in intracellular reactive oxygen species levels. Conclusion HcyT exerts its cytotoxic effects on endothelial cells through an apoptotic mechanism involving cellular reactive oxygen species production. The capacity of N-acetylcysteine, vitamin E, and pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate to scavenge HcyT-induced cellular reactive oxygen species correlates well with their efficiency to protect against HcyT-promoted apoptotic damage. The protective effect of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate on cell apoptosis indicates HcyT-generated hydrogen peroxide may provoke cell apoptosis via activating nuclear factor-kappa binding protein.
