External Validation of SENIC and NNIS Scores for Predicting Wound Infection in Colorectal Surgery

Objective: We aimed to identify the ratio of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) and also the validity of the National Nosocomial Infection Survellance (NNIS) and Study on the Efficacy of Nosocomial Infection Control (SENIC) risk indexes in colorectal surgery, among Turkish population. Background: Some problems have been reported with the power of NNIS risk index to predict the risk of surgical site infection. We aimed to validate theNNIS and SENIC risk indexes in colorectal surgery. Methods: Between January 2003 and December 2006, surgical site ?nfection survellance was performed to 107 patient who undergo colorectal surgery with NNIS and SENIC risk scales. The mean patient age was 48 years (range, 17 to 86), and 61.7% of the group (66) was female. For this patient cohort, 6 (5.6%) were diagnosed with incisional SSI. While the mean Body Mass Index (BMI) of all patients was 26.6;mean value of BMI among the patiens with SSI was ***: 6 insicional surgical site infection were observed during the study. According to Receiver Operating Characteric (ROC) curve analyze neither NNIS with avalue of 0.70, nor SENIC with a value of 0.67 are perfect risk indexes. Conclusion: As a result both NNIS and SENIC ?s a good risk indexes but not perfect. Scarcely when NNIS and SENIC is used together to predict the SSI they forecast the development of infection better. But there is a lot of other factors that effect the development of SSI, so for excellent surveillance risk index those factors known by everyone must be added to risk index scales.

Electronic interactions of the Group 2A elements with magnesium have been studied through the dilute solid solutions in binary Mg-Ca,Mg-Sr and Mg-Ba *** investigation incorporated the difference in the‘Work Function'(ΔWF)measured via Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy(KPFM),as a property directly affected by interatomic bond types,*** electronic structure,nanoindentation measurements,and Stacking Fault Energy values reported in the *** was shown that the nano-hardness of the solid-solutionα-Mg phase changed in the order of Mg-Ca>Mg-Sr>***,it was shown,by also considering the nano-hardness levels,that SFE of a solid-solution is closely correlated with its‘Work Function'***-hardness measurements on the eutectics andΔWF difference between eutectic phases enabled an assessment of the relative bond strength and the pertinent electronic structures of the eutectics in the three *** withΔWF and at least qualitative verification of those computed SFE values with some experimental measurement techniques were considered important as those computational methods are based on zero Kelvin degree,relatively simple atomic models and a number of *** asserted by this investigation,if the results of measurement techniques can be qualitatively correlated with those of the computational methods,it can be possible to evaluate the electronic structures in alloys,starting from binary systems,going to ternary and then multi-elemental *** investigation has shown that such a qualitative correlation is *** all,the SFE values are not treated as absolute values but rather become essential in comparative investigations when assessing the influences of alloying elements at a fundamental level,that is,free electron density *** study indicated that the principles of‘electronic metallurgy'in developing multi-elemental alloy systems can be followed via practical experimental methods,i.e.ΔWF measurements using KPF

Phase diagrams of the spin-2 Ising model in the presence of a quenched diluted crystal field distribution

We have investigated the random crystal field effects on the phase diagrams of the spin-2 Blume-Capel model for a honeycomb lattice using the effective-field theory with correlations. To do so, the thermal variations of magnetization are studied via calculating the phase diagrams of the model. We have found that the model displays both second-order and first-order phase transitions in addition to the tricritical and isolated points. Reentrant behavior is also observed for some appropriate values of certain system parameters. Besides the usual ground-state phases of the spin-2 model including ±2, ~1, and 0, we have also observed the phases ±3/2 and ±1/2, which are unusual for the spin-2 case.

Critical properties of mixed spin-1 and spin-5/2 with equal and unequal crystal fields

The effects of assuming equal or unequal crystal fields （CF） on the phase diagrams of a mixed spin-1 and spin-5/2 system are investigated in terms of the recursion relations on the Bethe lattice （BL）. The equal CF case was considered for the coordination numbers q = 3,4, and 6, while for q = 3 the unequal CF case was also studied. It was found that for the equal CF case, the model exhibits second-order phase transitions and two compensation temperatures for all q, the reentrant behavior for q = 4 and first-order phase transitions and tricritical point （TCP） for q = 6. In the unequal CF case for q = 3, the system yields first- and second-order phase transitions, TCP＇s, and three compensation temperatures. In addition, the TCP＇s in a very short range are classified as the stable and unstable ones depending on their free energies.

Phase diagrams of spin-3/2 Ising model in the presence of random crystal field within the effective field theory based on two approximations

The bimodal random crystal field （A） effects are investigated on the phase diagrams of spin-3/2 Ising model by using the effective-field theory with correlations based on two approximations： the general van der Waerden identity and the approximated van der Waerden identity. In our approach, the crystal field is either turned on or turned off randomly for a given probability p or q = 1 -p, respectively. Then the phase diagrams are constructed on the （A,kT/J） and （p,kT/J） planes for given p and A, respectively, when the coordination number is z = 3. Furthermore, the effect of randomization of the crystal field is illustrated on the （△,kT/J） plane for p = 0.5 when z - 3,4, and 6. All these are carried out for both approximations and then the results are compared to point out the differences. In addition to the lines of second-order phase transitions, the model also exhibits first-order phase transitions and the lines of which terminate at the isolated critical points for high p values.

Spin-3/2 Ising model AFM/AFM two-layer lattice with crystal field

The spin-3/2 Ising model is investigated for the case of antiferromagnetic （AFM/AFM） interactions on the two- layer Bethe lattice by using the exact recursion relations in the pairwise approach for given coordination numbers q=3, 4 and 6 when the layers are under the influences of equal external magnetic and equal crystal fields. The ground state （GS） phase diagrams are obtained on the different planes in detail and then the temperature-dependent phase diagrams of the system are calculated accordingly. It is observed that the system presents both second- and first-order phase transitions for all q, therefore, tricritical points. It is also found that the system exhibits double-critical end points and isolated points. The model also presents two Neel temperatures, TN, and the existence of which leads to the reentrant behaviour.

Theoretical determination of (d, n) and (d, 2n) excitation functions of some structural fusion materials irradiated by deuterons

Nuclear fusion is one of the world's primary energy sources. Studies on the structural fusion materials are very important in terms of the development of fusion technology. Chromium, nickel, zinc, scandium, titanium,and yttrium are important structural fusion materials. In this paper, for use in nuclear science and technology applications, the excitation functions of the ^(50)Cr(d, n)^(51)Mn,^(58)Ni(d, n)^(59)Cu,^(64)Zn(d, n)^(65)Ga,^(66)Zn(d, n)^(67)Ga,^(45)Sc(d,2n)^(45)Ti,^(47)Ti(d, 2n)^(47)V,^(48)Ti(d, 2n)^(48)V, and ^(89)Y(d, 2n)^(89)Zr nuclear reactions were investigated. The calculations that are based on the pre-equilibrium and equilibrium reaction processes were performed using ALICE–ASH computer code. A comparison with geometry-dependent hybrid model has been made using the initial exciton numbers n_0= 4–6 and level density parameters α = A/5; A/8; A/***, the present model-based calculations were compared with the cross sections obtained using the formulae suggested from our previous studies. Furthermore, the cross section results have been compared with TENDL data based on TALYS computer code and the measured data in the literature.

Model-based cross section calculations on production of 43,34Sc,45Ti, 51Cr, 54Mn, and 55Fe radioisotopes

A cross section database on excitation functions of reactions produced by charged particles is essential for many areas of nuclear research. Particularly, accurate knowledge on nuclear cross sections for the cyclotron production of radioisotopes is very important for nuclear medicine. In the present paper, the cross section calculations for the production of^(43),^(34)Sc,^(45)Ti,^(51)Cr,^(54)Mn, and^(55) Fe radioisotopes were carried out by the use of ALICE/ASH code using the Fermi gas model, Kataria Ramamurthy Fermi gas model, and superfluid nuclear model for nuclear level density. Thereby, these model calculations were compared with the available measured data.

Glass fibre reinforced concrete placement technique generates losses due to rebound effects of the already sprayed concrete *** concrete amount cause a significant difference between the initial mix design and emplaced mix *** from the structural differences,it comes with a cost increase which was resulted by the splashed concrete *** factors such as viscosity and quantity of mixes dominate this rebound amount in sprayed glass fibre reinforced concrete applications depending on production technologies and processes;however,this research focuses on the spray distance and the angle of the spray gun which mainly effects the rebound amount in glass fibre reinforced concrete *** paper aims to understand the required angle and distance for glass fibre reinforced concrete mixes having on-site plastic viscosity *** fibre reinforced mixtures were also modelled with a finite element method based software and,the analysis results were compared with production line *** of the analysis and on-site studies showed a decisive correlation between,discharge distance,discharge angle and the viscosity of the concrete.

The hydro-abrasive erosion wear behavior of duplex-treated surfaces of AISI H13 tool steel

The influence of duplex surface treatments consisting of a DC-pulsed plasma nitriding process and subsequent coatings of CrN and TiAlN deposited by physical vapor deposition(PVD)on AISI H13 tool steel was studied in this *** treated samples were characterized using metallographic techniques,SEM,EDS,and microhardness ***-abrasive erosion wear tests were performed in a specifically designed wear tester in which the samples were rotated in a wear tank containing a mixture of distilled water and ceramic abrasive chips with a fixed rotational *** wear rates caused by the abrasive particle impacts were assessed based on accumulated weight loss *** worn surfaces were also characterized using optical microscopy,SEM,and *** measurements indicated a significant increase in the surface hardness of the duplex-treated *** surfaces of the samples with the TiAlN coating were approximately 15 times harder than that of the untreated samples and 3 times that of the plasma nitrided ***-abrasive erosion wear results showed that the duplex surface treatments,especially the CrN coating,displayed the highest erosion wear resistance.
