Land use effects on the dynamics of soil C,N and microbes in the water-wind erosion crisscross region of the northern Loess Plateau,China

The water-wind erosion crisscross region of the northern Loess Plateau in China is under constant pressure from severe erosion due to its windy and dry climate and intensive human activities. Identifying sustainable land use patterns is key to maintaining ecosystem sustainability in the area. Our aim was to appraise the impacts of different land use regimes on the dynamics of soil total organic C(TOC), total N(TN), and microbes in a typical watershed in the northern Loess Plateau to identify suitable land use types that can maintain soil fertility and sustainability. A field experiment was performed in Liudaogou watershed in Shenmu City, Shaanxi Province, China, where the dynamics of soil TOC and TN, microbial biomass C and N, microbial respiration, and net N mineralization in six typical land use types, dam land, rainfed slope land, deciduous broadleaf forest, evergreen coniferous forest, shrubland, and grassland,were measured in three different growing seasons. Land use type and season significantly affected TOC, TN, and the dynamics of microbial biomass and activity. As the most anthropogenically disturbed land use pattern, dam land was an optimal land use pattern for TOC sequestration due to its higher TOC and TN, but lower microbial activity. Soil TOC, TN, and microbial properties demonstrated a decreasing trend after natural grassland was converted to shrubland,forest, and rainfed slope land. Shrubland with exotic N-fixing Korshinsk peashrub(Caragana korshinskii Kom.) can maintain TOC, TN, and microbial properties similar to those in grassland. Soil TOC, NH_(4+)^(-)N, TN, moisture, and extractable C were the principal indexes for soil microbial biomass and activity and explained 88.90% of the total variance. Thus, grassland was the optimal land use pattern in the water-wind erosion crisscross region of the northern Loess Plateau to maintain ecosystem stability and sustainability.

The action mechanism of the work done by the electric field force on moving charges to stimulate the emergence of carrier generation/recombination in a PN junction

It is discovered that the product of the current and the electric field in a PN junction should be regarded as the rate of work(power)done by the electric field force on moving charges(hole current and electron current),which was previously misinterpreted as solely a Joule heating *** clarify that it is exactly the work done by the electric field force on the moving charges to stimulate the emergence of non-equilibrium carriers,which triggers the novel physical *** regards to Joule heat,we point out that it should be calculated from Ohm’s law,rather than simply from the product of the current and the electric *** on this understanding,we conduct thorough discussion on the role of the electric field force in the process of carrier recombination and carrier *** thermal effects of carrier recombination and carrier generation followed are incorporated into the thermal equation of *** present study shows that the exothermic effect of carrier recombination leads to a temperature rise at the PN interface,while the endothermic effect of carrier generation causes a temperature reduction at the *** two opposite effects cause opposite heat flow directions in the PN junction under forward and backward bias voltages,highlighting the significance of managing device heating phenomena in design ***,this study possesses referential significance for the design and tuning on the performance of piezotronic devices.

The characteristics of bioaerosols and their effects on human beings'health have become a major public concern in the recent *** study compared the characteristics of bioaerosols under different types of pollution(high-ozone[HO]episodes,haze episodes,and dust storms[DSs]),with those of bioaerosols on normal days(NDs)in Xi'an,*** concentrations,diurnal variations,and size distribution of bacteria,fungi,and total airborne microbes(TAMs)were *** results showed that the bacterial and fungal concentrations were the highest during DSs and on NDs,reaching 425.2 and 956.9 colony-forming units/m^(3),*** concentration of TAMs was the highest during HO episodes,reaching 10.7×10^(6)cells/m^(3),which was significantly higher than that during the other *** maximum concentrations of bacteria and fungi during HO episodes were observed in the morning,while they appeared separately in the morning and evening during haze *** and TAMs during DSs reached peak concentrations in the morning and evening,which is opposite to the particulate matter(PM)distribution *** NDs,temperature and relative humidity had significant effects on *** size distributions of airborne bacteria exhibited bimodal patterns,whereas unimodal distributions were observed for *** mainly attached in fine particles(human respiratory *** evaluation of influence factors revealed that PM_(2.5) and PM10 had negative effects on fungal concentration during DSs,and ozone concentration and temperature were inversely correlated with fungal concentration during HO *** results provide valuable reference data for elucidating the formation and evolution of bioaerosols under different types of pollution.

Effects of the urban landscape on heatwave-mortality associations in Hong Kong: comparison of different heatwave definitions

Despite increased attention given to potential modifiers of temperature-mortality associations, evidence for variations between different urban landscape characteristics remains limited. It is in this context that in this paper effect modifications of multiple urban landscape characteristics are explored under different heatwave definitions for different age groups and gender in Hong Kong, China. Daily meteorological data and heatwave-related mortality counts from 2008 to 2017 were collected from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, China. A case-only design was adopted, combined with logistic regression models to examine the modification effects of five urban landscape characteristics under six heatwave definitions. Stratified analyses were conducted to investigate age- and gender-specific effect modifications. It is found that individuals living in greener areas experienced lower levels of mortality during or immediately after heatwaves. In contrast, a higher building density and nighttime land surface temperature (LST) were associated with a higher heatwave-related mortality risk. Pronounced effect modifications of these urban landscape characteristics were observed under hotter and longer heatwaves, and in older adults (age ≥ 65 years) and males. The findings provide a scientific basis for policymakers and practitioners when considering measures for coping with hotter, longer, and more frequent heatwaves in the context of global climate change.

Active Fault Tolerant Nonsingular Terminal Sliding Mode Control for Electromechanical System Based on Support Vector Machine

Effective fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control method for aeronautics electromechanical actuator is concerned in this *** borrowing the advantages of model-driven and data-driven methods,a fault tolerant nonsingular terminal sliding mode control method based on support vector machine(SVM)is proposed.A SVM is designed to estimate the fault by off-line learning from small sample data with solving convex quadratic programming method and is introduced into a high-gain observer,so as to improve the state estimation and fault detection accuracy when the fault *** state estimation value of the observer is used for state reconfiguration.A novel nonsingular terminal sliding mode surface is designed,and Lyapunov theorem is used to derive a parameter adaptation law and a control *** is guaranteed that the proposed controller can achieve asymptotical stability which is superior to many advanced fault-tolerant *** addition,the parameter estimation also can help to diagnose the system faults because the faults can be reflected by the parameters *** comparative simulation and experimental results illustrate the effectiveness and advancement of the proposed controller compared with several other main-stream controllers.

X-ray excited photodynamic therapy(X-PDT)is the bravo answer of photodynamic therapy(PDT)for deep-seated tumors,as it employs X-ray as the irradiation source to overcome the limitation of light penetration ***,high X-ray irradiation dose caused organ lesions and side effects became the major barrier to X-PDT *** address this issue,this work employed a classic-al co-precipitation reaction to synthesize NaLuF_(4):15%Tb^(3+)(NLF)with an average particle size of(23.48±0.91)nm,which was then coupled with the photosensitizer merocyanine 540(MC540)to form the X-PDT system NLF-MC540 with high production of singlet *** system could induce antitumor efficacy to about 24%in relative low dose X-ray irradiation range(0.1-0.3 Gy).In vivo,when NLF-MC540 irradiated by 0.1 Gy X-ray,the tumor inhibition percentage reached 89.5%±5.7%.The therapeutic mechanism of low dose X-PDT was found.A significant increase of neutrophils in serum was found on the third day after *** immunohistochemical staining of tumor sections,the Ly6G^(+),CD8^(+),and CD11c^(+)cells infiltrated in the tumor microenvironment were *** the bilat-eral tumor model,the NLF-MC540 with 0.1 Gy X-ray irradiation could inhibit both the primary tumor and the distant tumor ***-tected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),two cytokines IFN-γand TNF-αin serum were upregulated 7 and 6 times than negative control,*** by enzyme linked immune spot assay(ELISPOT),the number of immune cells attributable to the IFN-γand TNF-αlevels in the group of low dose X-PDT were 14 and 6 times greater than that in the negative control group,***,it conclude that low dose X-PDT system could successfully upregulate the levels of immune cells,stimulate the secretion of cy-tokines(especially IFN-γand TNF-α),activate antitumor immunity,and finally inhibit colon tumor growth.

Dear Editor,The novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 rapidly evolutes to increase its infectivity and transmissibility,facilitates its immune escape,impairs vaccine efficacy,and currently causes repeated infections in human,which is mainly determined by the accumulated mutations in spike(S).1 Transmembrane S is a heavily glycosylated protein on the surface of the virion as homotrimer,responsible for binding to human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(hACE2)receptor.2 While the architecture of S trimers has been well studied,how the stability of S is regulated by potential host factors remains unknown.

Dual-Confined Bead-Like CoSe_(2)@NC@NCNFs Bifunctional Catalyst Boosting Rechargeable Zinc-Air Batteries

Rationally developing efficient and durable bifunctional catalysts toward oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is critical for rechargeable zinc-air batteries(ZABs).Herein,a bead-like CoSe_(2)@NC@NCNFs bifunctional catalyst was designed and fabricated by confining cubic CoSe_(2)nanoparticles to three-dimensional(3D)porous MOFs-derived nitrogen-doped carbon(NC)and one-dimensional(1D)N-doped carbon nanofibers(NCNFs)through a facile encapsulate *** 1D/3D continuous network structure contributes to the improvement of specific surface area and electronic conductivity,while the strong synergistic effect between CoSe_(2)sites and Co-Nx-C sites can effectively enhance electron/mass transfer and reduce the diffusion *** as-constructed CoSe_(2)@NC@NCNFs catalyst exhibits high catalytic activity and stability toward ORR/OER with a high half-wave potential of 0.80 V(***)in ORR and a low overpotential of 280 mV at 10 mA·cm^(−2)in *** encouragingly,the rechargeable ZABs with CoSe_(2)@NC@NCNFs cathode deliver high peak power densities(126.8 mW·cm^(−2)),large specific capacities(763.1 mA·h·g^(−1)),and robust charge-discharge cycling stability over 240 *** study provides a facile strategy for designing efficient bifunctional catalysts for rechargeable energy conversion applications.

Allosterically activating SHP2 by oleanolic acid inhibits STAT3-Th17 axis for ameliorating colitis

Mechanism investigation of A-site doping on modulating electronic band structure and photocatalytic performance towards CO_(2) reduction of LaFeO_(3) perovskite

Three kinds of metal atoms with different valence electronic configurations,Bi(6s^(2)6p^(3)),Y(4d^(1)5s^(2)),and Ce(4f^(1)5d^(1)6s^(2)),were selected to investigate the effect of A-site(La^(3+))doping on electronic band structure,photoelectric properties,and photocatalytic performance of LaFeO_(3) *** was identified that the Bi doped LaFeO_(3) presented significantly improved photocatalytic activity towards the reduction of CO_(2),while the Y or Ce doped LaFeO_(3) displayed decreased photocatalytic activity compared to the pristine LaFeO_(3).It was revealed that doping of all the three metal atoms resulted in narrowed band gap and thus extended light absorption of LaFeO_(3) by lowering its conduction band minimum(CBM).The recombination rate and mobility of the charge carriers were represented by the relative effective mass(D)between holes and electrons for pristine and A-site doped LaFeO_(3).The doping of Bi resulted in increased D value,attributed to the Bi 6s electron states at the valence band maximum(VBM),and thus promoted separation and transfer of the charge carriers and improved photocatalytic activity of LaFeO_(3).In contrast,the doping of Ce resulted in significantly decreased D value,induced by the highly localized Ce 4f hole states at the CBM,and thus higher recombination rate of the charge carriers and decreased photocatalytic activity of LaFeO_(3).Furthermore,the Y doped LaFeO_(3) with a slightly decreased D value presented slightly increased recombination rate of the charge carriers and thus decreased photocatalytic *** a work provides new insights into the A-site doping in LaFeO_(3) perovskite,which should be helpful for optimizing the electronic band structure and activity of perovskite-type photocatalysts at atomic level.
