The prevalence of azoospermia factor microdeletion on the Y chromosome of Chinese infertile men detected by multi-analyte suspension array technology

Aim： To develop a high-throughput multiplex, fast and simple assay to scan azoospermia factor （AZF） region microdeletions on the Y chromosome and establish the prevalence of Y chromosomal microdeletions in Chinese infertile males with azoospermia or oligozoospermia. Methods： In total, 178 infertile patients with azoospermia （nonobstructed）, 134 infertile patients with oligozoospermia as well as 40 fertile man controls were included in the present study. The samples were screened for AZF microdeletion using optimized multi-analyte suspension array （MASA） technology. Results： Of the 312 patients, 36 （11.5%） were found to have deletions in the AZF region. The rnicrodeletion frequency was 14% （25/178） in the azoospermia group and 8.2% （11/134） in the oligospermia group. Among 36 patients with microdeletions, 19 had deletions in the AZFc region, seven had deletions in AZFa and six had deletions in AZFb. In addition, four patients had both AZFb and AZFc deletions. No deletion in the AZF region was found in the 40 fertile controls. Conclusion： There is a high prevalence of Y chromosomal microdeletions in Chinese infertile males with azoospermia or oligozoospermia. The MASA technology, which has been established in the present study, provides a sensitive and high-throughput method for detecting the deletion of the Y chromosome. And the results suggest that genetic screening should be advised to infertile men before starting assisted reproductive treatments.

To explore air contamination resulting from special biomass combustion and suspended dust in Lhasa,the present study focused on the size distribution and chemical characteristics of particulate matter(PM)emission resulting from 7 types of non-fossil pollution *** investigated the concentration and size distribution of trace elements from 7 pollution sources collected in *** Lhasa’s atmospheric particulate matter data,enrichment factors(EFs)have been calculated to examine the potential impact of those pollution sources on the atmosphere quality of *** highest mass concentration of total elements of biomass combustion appeared at PM_(0.4),and the second highest concentration existed in the size fraction 0.4-1μm;the higher proportion(12%)of toxicmetals was produced by biomass *** elemental composition of suspended dust and atmospheric particulate matter was close(except for As and Cd);the highest concentration of elements was all noted in PM_(2.5-10)(PM3-10).Potassium was found to be one of the main biomass *** proportion of Cu in suspended dust is significantly lower than that of atmospheric particulate matter(0.53%and 3.75%),which indicates that there are other anthropogenic *** EFs analysis showed that the Cr,Cu,Zn,and Pb produced by biomass combustion were highly enriched(EFs>100)in all particle *** EFs of most trace elements increased with decreasing particle size,indicating the greater influence of humanfactors on smaller particles.

To elucidate the adsorption characteristics and retention mechanisms of fracturing fluids in diverse clay minerals, we conducted on-line nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) and atomic force microscopy(AFM)experiments. The depth and extent of solid phase damage are determined by the ratio between the size of fine fractions in fracturing fluid residue and the pore-throat size in experiments. Poor physical properties(K 0.5 m D) combined with a scattered distribution of retained fracturing fluid is associated with high gas phase recovery permeability, whereas a continuous sheet-like distribution results in low recovery permeability. The expansive surface area and presence of filamentous illite minerals facilitate the multiple winding and adsorption of fracturing fluids, demonstrating strong hydrogen-bonding, multi-layering and multiple adsorption properties. The geological characteristics of the main gas formations exhibit significant variation, and the severity of damage caused by fracturing fluids occurs in diverse sequences. To address this issue, a differentiated strategy for optimizing fracturing fluids has been proposed.

This paper delves into the problem of optimal placement conditions for a group of agents collaboratively localizing a target using range-only or bearing-only measurements. The challenge in this study stems from the uncertainty associated with the positions of the agents, which may experience drift or disturbances during the target localization process. Initially, we derive the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) of the target position as the primary analytical metric. Subsequently, we establish the necessary and sufficient conditions for the optimal placement of agents. Based on these conditions, we analyze the maximal allowable agent position error for an expected mean squared error (MSE), providing valuable guidance for the selection of agent positioning sensors. The analytical findings are further validated through simulation experiments.

Transition metal-based nanomaterials have emerged as promising electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Considerable research efforts have shown that self-reconstruction occurs on these nanomaterials under operating conditions of OER ***,most of them undergo incomplete reconstruction with limited thickness of reconstruction layer,leading to low component utilization and arduous exploration of real catalytic ***,we identify the dynamic behaviors in complete reconstruction of Co-based complexes during *** hollow phytic acid(PA)cross-linked CoFe-based complex nanoboxes with porous nanowalls are designed because of their good electrolyte penetration and mass transport ability,in favor of the fast and complete reconstruction.A series of experiment characterizations demonstrate that the reconstruction process includes the fast substitution of PA by OH-to form Co(Fe)(OH)xand subsequent potential-driven oxidation to Co(Fe)*** obtained CoFeOOH delivers a low overpotential of 290 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2)and a long-term *** experiment results together with theory calculations reveal that the Fe incorporation can result in the electron rearrangement of reconstructed CoFeOOH and optimization of their electronic structure,accounting for the enhanced OER *** work provides new insights into complete reconstruction of metal-based complexes during OER and offers guidelines for rational design of high-performance electrocatalysts.

The study of high-energy gamma-ray emission from gamma-ray bursts(GRBs) involves complex synchrotron radiation and synchrotron self-Compton(SSC) scattering mechanisms with multiple parameters exhibiting a wide distribution. Recent advancements in GRB research, particularly the observation of very high energy(VHE,>100 Ge V) radiation, have ushered in a new era of multiwavelength exploration, offering fresh perspectives and limitations for understanding GRB radiation mechanisms. This study aimed to leverage VHE observations to refine constraints on synchrotron + SSC radiation from electrons accelerated by forward shocks. By analyzing two external environments—the uniform interstellar medium and stratified stellar wind medium, we conducted spectral and variability fitting for five specific bursts(GRB 180720B, GRB 190114C, GRB 190829A, GRB 201216C, and GRB 221009A) to identify the optimal parameters characterizing these events. A comparative analysis of model parameter distributions with and without VHE radiation observations reveals that the magnetic energy equipartition factor εBis more concentrated with VHE emissions. This suggests that VHE emissions may offer greater constraints on this microphysical parameter. Additionally, we found that the energy budget between VHE and ke V–Me V γ-ray emissions under the SSC radiation exhibits an almost linear relationship, which may serve as a tool to differentiate radiation mechanisms. We anticipate future statistical analyses of additional VHE bursts to validate our findings.

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia(PHN) is the most common complication of herpes zoster infection and affects patients' quality of life. Acupuncture therapy is regarded as a competitive method of treatment for analgesia. Objective: To summarize evidence from systematic reviews(SRs) and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of different acupuncture therapies for treating PHN. Methods: Eight electronic databases were searched from their inception to August 5, 2022, including 4 international electronic databases(PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) and 4 Chinese databases(Chinese Biomedical Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database and Wanfang Database).Methodological quality was assessed by A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2(AMSTAR 2).The Risk of Bias in Systematic Review(ROBIS) tool was used to assess the risk of bias in SRs. Evidence level was assessed by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation(GRADE)approach. Results: Totally, 7 SRs were included, including 128 studies and 9,792 patients. In AMSTAR 2, most of the SRs were of low or critically low levels since they had more than 1 critical deficiency. In ROBIS, 1 SR(14.29%)was rated as high risk, and the other 6(85.71%) were rated as low risk. In the GRADE system, 9 outcomes(28.13%)were valued as high level, 5(15.63%) as moderate level, 1(3.13%) as low, and 17(53.13%) as very low. In the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy, the group "moxibustion vs. original medical treatment" [mean difference(MD)=–1.44, 95% confidence interval(CI): –1.80 to –1.08, I2=99%, P<0.00001] was of the highest heterogeneity and the group "bloodletting vs. original medical treatment"(MD=–2.80, 95% CI: –3.14 to –2.46, I2=0, P<0.00001)was of the lowest heterogeneity. Six SRs have reported the safety of their studies and no serious events were shown in the treatment and control groups. Conclusions: Acupuncture therapy seems to be effective in treating PH

A composite hydrogel with porous and homogeneous structure for efficient osmotic energy conversion

With the impact of energy crisis and environmental problems, it is urgent to develop green sustainable energy. Osmotic energy stored in the salinity difference between seawater and river water is one of the sustainable, abundant, and renewable energy. However, the membranes used to capture osmotic energy by reverse electrodialysis （RED） always suffer from low ion selectivity, low stability and low *** with three-dimensional （3D） networks have shown great potential for ion transportation and energy conversion. In this work, based on the homogeneity and porosity characteristics of acrylamide（AM） hydrogel, as well as the remarkable stability and abundant negative charge of 3-sulfopropyl acrylate potassium salt （SPAK）, a high-performance AM/SPAK cation-selective hydrogel membrane was successfully developed for harvesting osmotic energy. Compared to AM hydrogels, utilizing AM/SPAK as a monomer mixture greatly facilitated the preparation of homogeneous polymers, exhibiting a porous structure, exceptional ion selectivity, and remarkable stability. A maximum output power density of 13.73 W/m2was achieved at a 50-fold NaCl concentration gradient, exceeding the commercial requirement of 5 W/m2. This work broadens the idea for the construction and application of composite hydrogel in high efficiency osmotic energy conversion.
