Can eradication rate of gastric Helicobacter pylori be improved by killing oral Helicobacter pylori ?

AIM:To evaluate the influence of oral Helicobacter pylori(***)on the success of eradication therapy against gastric ***:A total of 391 patients with dyspepsia were examined for *** using the saliva *** antigen test(HPS),13C-urea breath test(UBT),gastroscopy,and gastric mucosal histopathological *** 40 volunteers without discomfort were subjected to HPS and13C-UBT,and served as the control *** 233 patients who were13C-UBT+were enrolled in this study and divided into 4 *** who were HPS-and13C-UBT+(n=53)received triple therapy *** who were both HPS+and13CUBT+(n=180)were randomly divided into 3 groups:(1)the O+G+t group which received triple therapy alone(n=53);(2)the O+G+tm group which received both triple therapy and mouthrinse treatment(n=65);and(3)the O+G+tmp group which received triple therapy,mouthrinse,and periodontal treatment(n=62).The HPS and13C-UBT were continued for 4 wk after completion of treatment,and the eradication rate of gastric *** and the prevalence of oral *** in the 4 groups were then ***:The eradication rates of gastric *** in the O-G+t group,the O+G+tm group,and the O+G+tmp group were 93.3%,90.0%,and 94.7%respectively;all of these rates were higher than that of the O+G+t group(78.4%)[O-G+t group vs O+G+t group(P=0.039);O+G+tm group vs O+G+t group(P=0.092);O+G+tmp group vs O+G+t group(P=0.012);O+G+tm group vs O-G+t group(P=0.546);O+G+tmp group vs O-G+t group(P=0.765);O+G+tm group vs O+G+tmp group(P=0.924)].The eradication of gastric *** was significantly improved using the combination of triple therapy,mouthrinse,and periodontal *** eradication rates of gastric *** in the peptic ulcer group,chronic atrophic gastritis group and control group were higher than in the duodenitis group and the superficial gastritis *** prevalence rates of oral *** in the O-G+t group,O+G+t group,O+G+tm group and O+G+tmp group following treatmen

Cardiovascular risk and prevalence of metabolic syndrome by differing criteria

Background The prevalence of metabolic syndrome （MetS） in hypertensive population in Chinese countryside is unknown. Firstly, this study compared the prevalence of MetS according to National Cholesterol Education Program （NCEP） ATPIII, revised NCEP and International Diabetes Federation （IDF） definitions. Secondly, it investigated the association between MetS, coronary heart disease （CHD） and stroke in patients with hypertension. Methods In this cross sectional study, the cluster sampling method was used. Three MetS definitions were applied to 1418 normal subjects and 5348 hypertensive patients aged 40-75 years in rural areas in China. The agreement between different MetS definitions was estimated by K statistics. Logistic regression analyses determined the association between MetS defined by the three MetS definitions and CHD and stroke. Results In subjects without hypertension, the prevalence of Mets was 4.1% by NCEP definition, 8.3% revised NCEP definition and 7.8% IDF definition. In hypertensive individuals, the prevalence was 14.0%, 32.9%, and 27.4% in men; 35.6%, 53.1%, and 50.2% in women by the same definitions, respectively. In hypertensive individuals, the agreement was 94.4% in men and 97.0% in women between revised NCEP and IDF definitions. The IDF defined MetS was more strongly associated with CHD than the NCEP or revised NCEP defined MetS （adjusted odds ratio： 1.92 compared with 1.85 and 1.69 in men; 1.64 compared with 1.48 and 1.60 in women）. Conclusions In the patients with hypertension, the revised NCEP and IDF definitions identified more individuals than NCEP definition and their agreement is very high. The IDF defined MetS is more strongly associated with CHD than the NCEP or revised NCEP defined MetS, but weakly or not associated with stroke.

Kinematics and activity of M dwarfs in LAMOST DR1

We report on the first investigation into kinematics and chromospheric activity of M dwarfs from the Guo Shou Jing Telescope （also called the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope - LAMOST） data release one （DR1）. The sample comprises 71 304 M dwarfs. Their fundamental parameters such as spectral types, radial velocities, important molecular band indices and magnetic activities are measured. Their distances are determined by a spectroscopic parallax relation. Space motion （U, V, W） and Galactocentric cylindrical coordinates （R, θ, Z） for the M dwarfs are also computed. We examine velocity dispersion as a function of height from the Galactic plane and find that all three components of velocity dispersion in- crease with height as measured with respect to the Galactic plane. The investigation into chromospheric activities along the height from the Galactic plane confirms that M dwarfs closer to the Galactic plane are more likely to be active. We take a pure kinematical approach to select thin disk stars and thick disk stars from our sample, then to investigate the differences in properties between these two populations. Our analysis is in excellent agreement with previous studies and leads to a better understanding of the structure of the Galactic disk.

When debugging encounters artificial intelligence: state of the art and open challenges

Both software debugging and artificial intelligence techniques are hot topics in the current field of software engineering. Debugging techniques, which comprise fault localization and program repair, are an important part of the software development lifecycle for ensuring the quality of software systems. As the scale and complexity of software systems grow, developers intend to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of software debugging via artificial intelligence(artificial intelligence for software debugging, AI4SD). On the other hand, many artificial intelligence models are being integrated into safety-critical areas such as autonomous driving, image recognition, and audio processing, where software debugging is highly necessary and urgent(software debugging for artificial intelligence, SD4AI). An AI-enhanced debugging technique could assist in debugging AI systems more effectively, and a more robust and reliable AI approach could further guarantee and support debugging techniques. Therefore, it is important to take AI4SD and SD4AI into consideration comprehensively. In this paper, we want to show readers the path, the trend, and the potential that these two directions interact with each other. We select and review a total of 165 papers in AI4SD and SD4AI for answering three research questions, and further analyze opportunities and challenges as well as suggest future directions of this cross-cutting area.

Relative flux calibration for the Guoshoujing Telescope (LAMOST)

This paper presents a relative flux calibration method for the Guoshoujing Telescope （LAMOST）, which may be applied to connect a blue spectrum to a red spectrum to build the whole spectrum across the total wavelength range （3700 ～ 9000 A）. In each spectrograph, we estimate the effective temperatures of selected stars using a grid of spectral line indices in the blue spectral range and a comparison with stellar atmosphere models. For each spectrograph, stars of types A and F are selected as pseudo-standard stars, and the theoretical spectra are used to calibrate both the blue （3700 ～ 5900 A） and red spectrograph arms （5700 ～ 9000 A）. Then the spectral response function for these pseudo-standard stars could be used to correct the raw spectra provided by the other fibers of the spectrograph, after a fiber efficiency function has been derived from twilight flat-field exposures. A key problem in this method is the fitting of a pseudo stellar continuum, so we also give a detailed description of this step. The method is tested by comparing a small sample of LAMOST spectra calibrated in this way on stars also observed by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The result shows that the T eff estimation and relative flux calibration method are adequate.

Design,fabrication,and characterization of hierarchical mechanical metamaterials

Natural mechanical materials,such as bamboo and bone,often exhibit superior specific mechanical properties due to their hierarchical porous *** the principle of hierarchy as inspiration can facilitate the development of hierarchical mechanical metamaterials(HMMs)across multiple length scales via 3D *** this work,we propose self-similar HMMs that combine octet-truss(OCT)architecture as the first and second orders,with cubic architecture as the third or more *** HMMs were fabricated using stereolithography 3D printing,with the length sizes ranging from approximately 200µm to the centimeter *** compressive stress–strain behaviors of HMMs exhibit a zigzag characteristic,and the toughness and energy absorption can be significantly enhanced by the hierarchical *** compressive moduli are comparable to that of natural materials,and the strengths are superior to that of most polymer/metal foams,alumina hollow/carbon lattices,and other natural ***,the flexural stress–strain curves exhibit a nonlinear behavior,which can be attributed to the hierarchical architecture and local damage *** relatively high mechanical properties can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the stretch-dominated OCT architecture and the bending-dominated cube ***,an ultralight HMM-integrated unmanned aerial vehicle(HMM-UAV)was successfully designed and *** HMM-UAV is~85%lighter than its bulk counterpart,remarkably extending the flight duration time(~53%).This work not only provides an effective design strategy for HMMs but also further expands the application benchmark of HMMs.

Effects of the urban landscape on heatwave-mortality associations in Hong Kong: comparison of different heatwave definitions

Despite increased attention given to potential modifiers of temperature-mortality associations, evidence for variations between different urban landscape characteristics remains limited. It is in this context that in this paper effect modifications of multiple urban landscape characteristics are explored under different heatwave definitions for different age groups and gender in Hong Kong, China. Daily meteorological data and heatwave-related mortality counts from 2008 to 2017 were collected from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department, China. A case-only design was adopted, combined with logistic regression models to examine the modification effects of five urban landscape characteristics under six heatwave definitions. Stratified analyses were conducted to investigate age- and gender-specific effect modifications. It is found that individuals living in greener areas experienced lower levels of mortality during or immediately after heatwaves. In contrast, a higher building density and nighttime land surface temperature (LST) were associated with a higher heatwave-related mortality risk. Pronounced effect modifications of these urban landscape characteristics were observed under hotter and longer heatwaves, and in older adults (age ≥ 65 years) and males. The findings provide a scientific basis for policymakers and practitioners when considering measures for coping with hotter, longer, and more frequent heatwaves in the context of global climate change.

Aiming to mitigate the aerodynamic lift force imbalance between pantograph strips,which exacerbates wear and affects the current collection performance of the pantograph-catenary system,a study has been conducted to support the beam deflector optimization using a combination of experimental measurements and computational fluid dynamics(CFD)*** results demonstrate that the size,position,and installation orientation of the wind deflectors significantly influence the amount of force *** also indicate that the front strip deflectors should be installed downwards and the rear strip deflectors upwards,thereby forming a“π”***,the lift force compensation provided by the wind deflectors increases with the size of the *** wind compensation strategies,such as control circuits,are also discussed,putting emphasis on the pros and cons of various pantograph types and wind compensation approaches.

ZP2:the precision regulator of egg coat architecture during fertilization

In a recent study published in Cell,(Nishio et al.,2024)elucidated the molecular regulatory mechanism through which organisms prevent *** process intricately involves conformational changes in the zona pellucida(ZP)*** authors present a fascinating mechanism whereby post-fertilization cleavage of the ZP subunit ZP2 triggers its oligomerization,leading to crosslinking of filaments to harden the egg coat and prevent *** also systematically analyzed the pattern of ZP filament assembly,which revealed that two protofilaments comprising type I(ZP3)and type II(ZP1/ZP2/ZP4)components interlock to form a left-handed double helix *** findings are immensely beneficial for understanding the specific role of the egg coat,providing a plethora of insights.
