Widespread and active piezotolerant microorganisms mediate phenolic compound degradation under high hydrostatic pressure in hadal trenches

Phenolic compounds,as well as other aromatic compounds,have been reported to be abundant in hadal *** high-throughput sequencing studies have hinted at the potential of hadal microbes to degrade these compounds,direct microbiological,genetic and biochemical evidence under in situ pressures remain ***,a microbial consortium and a pure culture of Pseudomonas,newly isolated from Mariana Trench sediments,efficiently degraded phenol under pressures up to 70 and 60 MPa,respectively,with concomitant increase in *** analyzing a high-pressure(70 MPa)culture metatranscriptome,not only was the entire range of metabolic processes under high pressure generated,but also genes encod-ing complete phenol degradation via ortho-and meta-cleavage pathways were *** isolate of Pseudomonas also contained genes encoding the complete degradation *** transcribed genes(dmpKLMNOP_(sed))were functionally identified to encode a multicomponent hydroxylase catalyzing the hydroxylation of phenol and its methylated derivatives by heterogeneous *** addition,key catabolic genes identified in the metatranscriptome of the high-pressure cultures and genomes of bacterial isolates were found to be all widely distributed in 2. published hadal microbial *** microbiological,genetic,bioinformatics,and biochemical levels,this study found that microorganisms widely found in hadal trenches were able to effectively drive phenolic compound degradation under high hydrostatic *** information will bridge a knowledge gap concerning the microbial aromatics degradation within hadal trenches.

In recent years,the issue of aircraft icing has gained widespread *** breaking and detachment of dynamic ice can pose a threat to flight ***,the shedding and fracture mechanisms of dynamic ice are unclear and cannot meet the engineering needs of ice-shedding hazard ***,studying the fracture toughness of ice bodies has extremely important practical *** address this issue,this article uses a centrally cracked Brazilian disk(CCBD)specimen to measure the pure modeⅠtoughness and pure modeⅡfracture toughness of freshwater ice at different loading *** mixed-mode(Ⅰ–Ⅱ)fracture characteristics of ice are discussed,and the experimental results are compared and analyzed with the theoretical values of the generalized maximum tangential stress(GMTS)criterion considering the influence of *** results indicated that as the loading rate increases,the pure modeⅠtoughness and pure modeⅡfracture toughness of freshwater ice decrease,and the fracture toughness of freshwater ice is more sensitive to the loading rate.Ⅰn terms of fracture criteria,the theoretical value of the ratio of pure modeⅡfracture toughness to pure modeⅠfracture toughness based on the GMTS criterion is in good agreement with the experimental value,while the theoretical value based on the maximum tangential stress(MTS)criterion deviates significantly from the experimental value,indicating that the GMTS criterion considering the influence of T-stress can better predict the experimental results.

Ballistic performance of spaced multi-ply soft fabrics: Experimental and numerical investigation

It has been reported that the ply gap influences the ballistic resistance of spaced multi-ply fabric systems,but its working mechanism was not well-understood. This paper reports the experimental and numerical approaches and results of an investigation on the mechanisms that enable the improved ballistic performance of spaced multi-ply systems. Penetration tests were performed over a range of impact velocities ranging from 2.0 m/s to 400 m/s. The results confirmed that the ply gap is beneficial to the energy absorption capability of the systems. This is because the front plies tend to absorb more energy when they are not immediately constrained by the rear plies. During a ballistic event, the gap relieves the reflection of the compressive pulse, prolonging the projectile engagement time with the front plies;on the other hand, the rear plies become increasingly less active in dissipating energy as the gap *** the gap is sufficiently widened to avoid any interference between the plies before the failure of the front ply, the responses of the whole system no longer vary. It was also found that the ballistic performance of the spaced systems is influenced by ply thickness, impact velocity, and the stacking order of the ply gap.

Global Exact Boundary Controllability for Cubic Semi-linear Wave Equations and Klein-Gordon Equations

The authors prove the global exact boundary controllability for the cubic semilinear wave equation in three space dimensions,subject to Dirichlet,Neumann,or any other kind of boundary controls which result in the well-posedness of the corresponding initial-boundary value *** exponential decay of energy is first established for the cubic semi-linear wave equation with some boundary condition by the multiplier method,which reduces the global exact boundary controllability problem to a local *** proof is carried out in line with [2.15].Then a constructive method that has been developed in [13] is used to study the local *** when the region is star-complemented,it is obtained that the control function only need to be applied on a relatively open subset of the *** the cubic Klein-Gordon equation,similar results of the global exact boundary controllability are proved by such an idea.

Astronomical Test with CMOS on the 60 cm Telescope at the Xinglong Observatory,NAOC

This work shows details of an evaluation of an observational system comprising a complementary metal-oxidesemiconductor detector, 60 cm telescope and filter complement. The system’s photometric precision and differential photometric precision, and extinction coefficients were assessed through observations of Supersky flat fields, open clusters, standard stars and exoplanets. Photometry was precision achieved at the 0.02.mag level, with differential photometry of 0.004 mag precision. Extinction was found to agree with previous studies conducted at Xinglong Observatory. Ultimately, the results demonstrate this observing system is capable of precision scientific observations with a charge-coupled device across the optical wavelengths.

Uncertainties of ENSO-related Regional Hadley Circulation Anomalies within Eight Reanalysis Datasets

El Nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO),the leading mode of global interannual variability,usually intensifies the Hadley Circulation(HC),and meanwhile constrains its meridional extension,leading to an equatorward movement of the jet *** studies have investigated the response of HC to ENSO events using different reanalysis datasets and evaluated their capability in capturing the main features of ENSO-associated HC ***,these studies mainly focused on the global HC,represented by a zonal-mean mass stream function(MSF).Comparatively fewer studies have evaluated HC responses from a regional perspective,partly due to the prerequisite of the Stokes MSF,which prevents us from integrating a regional *** this study,we adopt a recently developed technique to construct the three-dimensional structure of HC and evaluate the capability of eight state-of-the-art reanalyses in reproducing the regional HC response to ENSO *** show that all eight reanalyses reproduce the spatial structure of HC responses well,with an intensified HC around the central-eastern Pacific but weakened circulations around the Indo-Pacific warm pool and tropical *** spatial correlation coefficient of the three-dimensional HC anomalies among the different datasets is always larger than ***,these datasets may not capture the amplitudes of the HC responses *** uncertainty is especially large for ENSO-associated equatorially asymmetric HC anomalies,with the maximum amplitude in Climate Forecast System Reanalysis(CFSR)being about 2.7 times the minimum value in the Twentieth Century Reanalysis(2.CR).One should be careful when using reanalysis data to evaluate the intensity of ENSO-associated HC anomalies.

Bunch-length measurement at a bunch-by-bunch rate based on time–frequency-domain joint analysis techniques and its application

This paper presents a new technique for measuring the bunch length of a high-energy electron beam at a bunch-by-bunch rate in storage *** technique uses the time–frequency-domain joint analysis of the bunch signal to obtain bunch-by-bunch and turn-by-turn longitudinal parameters,such as bunch length and synchronous *** bunch signal is obtained using a button electrode with a bandwidth of several *** data acquisition device was a high-speed digital oscilloscope with a sampling rate of more than 10 GS/s,and the single-shot sampling data buffer covered thousands of *** bunch-length and synchronous phase information were extracted via offline calculations using Python *** calibration coefficient of the system was determined using a commercial streak ***,this technique was tested on two different storage rings and successfully captured various longitudinal transient processes during the harmonic cavity debugging process at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF),and longitudinal instabilities were observed during the single-bunch accumulation process at Hefei Light Source(HLS).For Gaussian-distribution bunches,the uncertainty of the bunch phase obtained using this technique was better than 0.2.ps,and the bunch-length uncertainty was better than 1 *** dynamic range exceeded 10 *** technology is a powerful and versatile beam diagnostic tool that can be conveniently deployed in high-energy electron storage rings.

Numerical investigation on compressible flow around a cylinder in proximity to the heated wall

In this study,direct numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the compressible flow around a circular cylinder near a heated wall at a Reynolds number(Re)of 500 and a Mach number(Ma)of *** heating ratio T^(*)ranging from 1.0 to 1.6 represents the different situations of a heated wall,whereas the gap ratio ranges from 0.3 to *** study analyzed the impact of heating effect and wall proximity on flow characteristics and aerodynamic *** results indicated that the stability of the flow was enhanced as the gap ratio decreased or the heating ratio *** the calculation of enstrophy,it was found that the strength of shedding vortices weakens with a decrease in gap ratio or an increase in heating ***,the mean drag coefficient decreases as the heating ratio increases or the gap ratio *** contrast,the mean lift coefficient initially decreases and then increases as the gap ratio ***,the drag reduction mechanism was analyzed by examining the pressure distribution on the surface of the cylinder.

Unique Azolyl Acylhydrazonyl Hybridization of Aloe Emodins to Access Potential Antibacterial Agents

A type of unique azole-hybridized acylhydrazonyl aloe emodins(AAEs)were developed as new antibacterial agents for combating bacterial *** target AAEs showed strong antibacterial activities,especially,tetrazolylthioether AAE 2.a exhibited broad antibacterial spectrum with 16-2.6 folds and 8-64 folds more active antibacterial efficacy than the reference drugs aloe emodin and norfloxacin,*** AAE 2.a also gave low hemolysis and cytotoxicity,as well as favorable *** mechanism explorations revealed that tetrazolylthioether AAE 2.a could cause bacterial membrane depolarization and damage the cell membrane,resulting in nucleic acid ***,compound 2.a could intercalate into DNA to impede its replication and form supramolecular 2.a-DNA gyrase complex to disturb the function of DNA *** findings would provide valuable insights for the further exploration of azolyl acylhydrazonyl aloe emodins as new potential antibacterial candidates.
