BACKGROUND Bloodstream infection(BSI)is one of the most significantly adverse events that can occur after liver transplantation(LT)in *** To analyze the profile of BSI according to the postoperative periods and assess the risk factors after pediatric *** Clinical data,collected from medical charts of children(n=378)who underwent primary LT,were retrospectively *** primary outcome considered was BSI in the first year after *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify risk factors for BSI and respective odds ratios(ORs).RESULTS Of the examined patients,106(28%)experienced 162 episodes of pathogen-confirmed BSI during the first year after *** were 1.53±0.95 episodes per children(mean±SD)among BSIcomplicated patients with a median onset of 0.4 mo *** most common pathogenic organisms identified were Coagulase-negative staphylococci,followed by Enterococcus *** Streptococcus *** half(53%)of the BSIs were of unknown *** analysis demonstrated that young age(≤1.3 year;OR=2.1,P=0.011),growth failure(OR=2.1,P=0.045),liver support system(OR=4.2,P=0.008),and hospital stay of>44 d(OR=2.3,P=0.002)were independently associated with BSI in the year after *** BSI was frequently observed in patients after pediatric LT,affecting survival *** profile of BSI may inform clinical treatment and management in high-risk children after LT.

AIM: To evaluate the inflammasome activation and the effect of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors(Ppar.-δ agonist treatment in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) ***: Male C57BL/6J mice were classified according to control or high fat diet(HFD) with or without Ppar.δ agonist(GW) over period of 12 wk [control, HFD, HFD + lipopolysaccharide(LPS), HFD + LPS + GW group]. Hep G2 cells were exposed to palmitic acid(PA) and/or LPS in the absence or presence of ***: HFD caused glucose intolerance and hepatic steatosis. In mice fed an HFD with LPS, caspase-1 and interleukin(IL)-1β in the liver were significantly increased. Treatment with GW ameliorated the steatosis and inhibited overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In Hep G2 cells, PA and LPS treatment markedly increased m RNA of several nucleotide-binding andoligomerization domain-like receptor family members(NLRP3, NLRP6, and NLRP10), caspase-1 and IL-1β. PA and LPS also exaggerated reactive oxygen species production. All of the above effects of PA and LPS were reduced by GW. GW also enhanced the phosphorylation of AMPK-α.CONCLUSION: Ppar.δ agonist reduces fatty acidinduced inflammation and steatosis by suppressing inflammasome activation. Targeting the inflammasome by the Ppar.δ agonist may have therapeutic implication for NAFLD.

OBJECTIVE: To show whether Danggui Sini plus Wuzhuyu Shengjiang Tang(DSWST) has any transient effect on erythrocyte deformability in normal ***: A total of 25 subjects [mean age(27.8± 1.8) years] was enrolled in this study. The study was designed as a cross-over trial in which the subjects took par. for 2 d. On the first day, blood samples were collected at baseline and 1-2 h after administration of water, whereas, on the second day, instead of water, the subjects were administered DSWST after the baseline blood sampling. The blood samples collected at baseline and after the administration water or DSWST, were examined for erythrocyte ***: The elongation index increased significantly after 2 h(P = 0.009) compar.d to the baseline after DSWST intake. However, after water intake, there was no significant differenceobserved. When compar.ng the percent change of erythrocyte deformability between DSWST and water, we found that after 2 h of administration,DSWST improved erythrocyte deformability significantly compar.d to water(P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: DSWST has a transient effect on erythrocyte deformability in normal subjects.

Objective： TO determine whether jaw-tapping movement, a classically described as an indication of personal well-being and mental health, stimulates the memory and the cognitive regions of the brain and is associated with improved brain performance. Methods： Twelve healthy right-handed female subjects completed the study. Each patient performed a jaw-tapping task and an n-back task during functional magnetic resonance imaging （fMRI）. The subjects were trained to carry out the jaw-tapping movement at home twice a day for 4 weeks. The fMRI was repeated when they returned. Results： During the first and second jaw-tapping session, both sides of precentral gyrus and the right middle frontal gyrus （BA 6） were activated. And during the second session of the jaw-tapping task, par.s of frontal lobe and temporal lobe related to memory function were more activated. In addition, the total percent task accuracy in n-beck task significantly increased after 4 weeks of jaw- tapping movement. After jaw-tapping training for 4 weeks, brain areas related to memory showed significantly increased blood oxygen level dependent signals. Conclusion： Jaw-tapping movement might be a useful exercise for stimulating the memory and cognitive regions of the brain.

The flowability of a root canal sealer is clinically important because it improves the penetration of the sealer into the complex root canal system. The purpose of this study was to compar. the flowabilities of four root canal sealers, measured using the simple press method （ISO 6876）, and their viscosities, measured using a strain-controlled rheometer. A newly developed, calcium phosphate-based root canal sealer （Capseal） and three commercial root canal sealers （AH Plus, Sealapex and Pulp Canal Sealer EWT） were used in this study. The flowabilities of the four root canal sealers were measured using the simple press method （n= 5） and their viscosities were measured using a strain-controlled rheometer （n=5）. The correlation between these two values was statistically analysed using Spearman＇s correlation test. The flow diameters and the viscosities of the root canal sealers were strongly negatively correlated （p= -0.8618）. The viscosity of Pulp Canal Sealer EWT was the lowest and increased in the following order： AH Plus〈Sealapex〈Capseal （P〈0.05）. All of the tested root canal sealers showed characteristic time- and temperature-dependent changes in their rheological properties. The viscosities measured using the strain-controlled rheometer were more precise than the flowabilities measured using the simple press method, suggesting that the rheometer can accurately measure the rheological properties of root canal sealers.

Despite its low water activity (Aw), food poisoning accidents associated with beef jerky consumption and problems due to mold growth have been reported. The objects of this study were to investigate the effect of yuza powder and the mixture of sodium lactate (SL) and sodium acetate (SA) to prevent the growth of S. aureus and A. flavus, as well as aflatoxin production in beef jerky. Different concentrations of the SL and SA (0, 0.75, and 1%) mixture were added to sliced beef and the Aws were adjusted to 0.70, 0.75, and 0.80. The effect of yuza powder and the SL and SA mixture on S. aureus in beef jerky (Aw 0.80) was also investigated at 10°C and 25°C. A rapid decline is that S. aureus population was observed in beef jerky containing yuza powder and mixtures of SL and SA. Antifungal effects against A. flavus were observed in beef jerky containing the SL and SA mixture at Aw below 0.75. The growth of A. flavus and aflatoxin production were prevented in beef jerky containing the yuza powder and a 1% mixture of SL and SA at 10°C and 0.80 Aw. The addition of yuza powder increased the hardness score of the beef jerky. Under current Aw regulations (0.80), beef jerky may pose a public health risk due to the growth of A. flavus and the presence of aflatoxin.

Objective： To investigate brain activity patterns during acupuncture in stroke patients, and to compar. the result with normal subjects using functional magnetic resonance imaging （fMRI）. Methods： A total of 11 stroke patients with motor weakness and 10 healthy subjects were studied, fMRI was performed during acupuncture on the left side at points Quchi （Llll） and Zusanli （ST36）. Data were analyzed using statistical par.metric maps of brain activation induced by acupuncture stimulation. Results： The results showed that stimulation of both LI11 and ST36 produced significantly different brain activation patterns between the two groups. The normal group showed a greater overall activation than the stroke group. In the normal group, par.s of the frontal lobe, par.etal lobe, sub-lobar, cerebellum and midbrain regions were activated by acupuncture at the left LI11. On the other hand, only the right side of the inferior par.etal Iobule region was activated in the stroke patients. When the left ST36 was stimulated in the normal group, both sides of the frontal lobe, par.etal lobe, temporal lobe, and sub-lobar, and the left side of occipital lobe, and the right side of cerebellum and midbrain regions were activated. For the same stimulation in the stroke group, only both sides of the inferior par.etal Iobule and cerebellum regions were activated （P〈0.05, cluster level）. Deactivation pattern was not noted during any acupuncture stimulation in both groups. Conclusion： Brain signal activations during the same acupuncture were different between the healthy and the stroke patients, and the effects showed a correlation of different acupuncture points.
