The intestinal microbiota has gained increased attention from researchers within the swine industry due to its role in promoting intestinal maturation,immune system modulation,and consequently the enhancement of the health and growth performance of the *** review aimed to provide updated scientific information on the interaction among intestinal microbiota,dietary components,and intestinal health of *** small intestine is a key site to evaluate the interaction of the microbiota,diet,and host because it is the main site for digestion and absorption of nutrients and plays an important role within the immune *** diet and its associated components such as feed additives are the main factors affecting the microbial composition and is central in stimulating a beneficial population of *** microbiotaehost interaction modulates the immune system,and,concurrently,the immune system helps to modulate the microbiota *** direct interaction between the microbiota and the host is an indication that the mucosa-associated microbiota can be more effective in evaluating its effect on health *** was demonstrated that the mucosa-associated microbiota should be evaluated when analyzing the interaction among diets,microbiota,and *** addition,supplementation of feed additives aimed to promote the intestinal health of pigs should consider their roles in the modulation of mucosa-associated microbiota as biomarkers to predict the response of growth performance to dietary interventions.

Intestinal health is essential for the resistance to enteric diseases and for nutrient digestion and absorption to support *** intestine of nursery pigs are immature and vulnerable to external challenges,which cause negative impacts on the structure and function of the *** nutritional interventions,the benefits of milk are significant for the intestinal health of *** coproducts have traditionally been used in starter feeds to improve the growth of nursery pigs,but their use is somewhat limited due to the high costs and potential risks of excessive lactose on the ***,understanding a proper feeding level of milk carbohydrates is an important start of the feeding *** nursery pigs,lactose is considered a highly digestible energy source compared with plant-based starch,whereas milk oligosaccharides are considered bioactive compounds modulating intestinal immunity and ***,milk carbohydrates,mainly composed of lactose and oligosaccharides,have essential roles in the intestinal development and functions of nursery *** proper feeding levels of lactose in starter feeds could be variable by weaning age,body weight,or genetic *** of lactose and milk oligosaccharides have been broadly studied in human health and animal ***,this review focuses on the mechanisms of lactose and milk oligosaccharides affecting intestinal maturation and functions through modulation of enterocyte proliferation,intestinal immunity,and intestinal microbiota of nursery pigs.

Gut health of nursery pigs immediately after weaning is tightly associated with their growth performance and economic values. Postweaning diarrhea(PWD) is one of the major concerns related to gut health of nursery pigs which often is caused by infections of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC),mainly including F4(K88)^+ and F18^+ E. coli. The main virulence factors of ETEC are adhesins(fimbriae or pili) and enterotoxins. The common types of fimbriae on ETEC from PWD pigs are F18^+ and F4^+. Typically, PWD in pigs is associated with both F18^+ and F4^+ ETEC infections whereas pre-weaning diarrhea in pigs is associated with F4+ ETEC infection. Enterotoxins including heat-labile enterotoxins(LT) and heatstable peptide toxins(ST) are associated with causing diarrhea in pigs. At least 109 to 1010 ETEC are required to induce diarrhea in nursery pigs typically lasting 1 to 5 days after ETEC infection. Antibiotics used to be the most effective way to prevent PWD, however, with the increased bacterial resistance to antibiotics, alternatives to the use of antibiotics are urgently needed to prevent PWD. Immunopropylaxis and nutritional intervention of antimicrobial minerals(such as zinc oxide and copper sulfate), organic acids, functional feedstuffs(such as blood plasma and egg yolk antibodies), direct fed microbials, phytobiotics, and bacteriophage can potentially prevent PWD associated with ETEC. Some other feed additives such as nucleotides, feed enzymes, prebiotic oligosaccharides, and clay minerals can enhance intestinal health and thus indirectly help with preventing PWD. Numerous papers show that nutritional intervention using selected feed additives can effectively prevent PWD.

This study investigated the effects of using soy protein concentrate (SPC) to replace animal protein supplements on mucosa-associated microbiota,intestinal health,and growth performance of nursery ***-six newly weaned pigs (BW=6.4±0.6 kg) were allotted to 5 treatments in a randomized complete block *** were fed for 35 d in 3 phases (P;1,2,3) for 10,12,13 d,*** treatments were:(1) basal diet with fish meal (P1:4%,P2:2%,and P3:1%),poultry meal (P1:10%,P2:8%,and P3:4%),and blood plasma (P1:4%,P2:2%,and P3:1%),where SPC replacing none (NC);(2) basal diet with SPC replacing fish meal (RFM);(3) basal diet with SPC replacing poultry meal (RPM);(4) basal diet with SPC replacing blood plasma (RBP);and (5) basal diet with SPC replacing all animal protein supplements (PC).Growth performance was recorded for each *** were euthanized on d 35 to collect jejunal mucosa and tissue to evaluate intestinal health and microbiota,and ileal digesta to measure apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of *** were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of ***,RFM,RPM,and RBP did not affect growth performance,whereas PC decreased (P<0.05) ADG and *** RPM increased (P<0.05) Prevotella stercorea and decreased (P<0.05) Helicobacter *** PC decreased (P<0.05) ***,whilst increasing (P<0.05) Prevotella copri,Propionibacterium acnes,and Pelomonas *** RFM tended to increase (P=0.096) immunoglobulin A in the *** PC tended to decrease (P=0.078) jejunal crypt cell *** were no differences in the villus height,AID of nutrients,intestinal inflammation,and intestinal oxidative stress among *** conclusion,SPC can replace fish meal,poultry meal,or blood plasma individually without affecting growth performance and intestinal health,and AID of nutrients of nursery *** SPC replacing poultry meal benefitted intestinal health by reducing *** and increasing ***,SPC replac

A Power-Aware Branch Predictor by Accessing the BTB Selectively

Microarchitects should consider power consumption, together with accuracy, when designing a branch predictor, especially in embedded processors. This paper proposes a power-aware branch predictor, which is based on the gshare predictor, by accessing the BTB （Branch Target Buffer） selectively. To enable the selective access to the BTB, the PHT （Pattern History Table） in the proposed branch predictor is accessed one cycle earlier than the traditional PHT if the program is executed sequentially without branch instructions. As a side effect, two predictions from the PHT are obtained through one access to the PHT, resulting in more power savings. In the proposed branch predictor, if the previous instruction was not a branch and the prediction from the PHT is untaken, the BTB is not accessed to reduce power consumption. If the previous instruction was a branch, the BTB is always accessed, regardless of the prediction from the PHT, to prevent the additional delay/accuracy decrease. The proposed branch predictor reduces the power consumption with little hardware overhead, not incurring additional delay and never harming prediction accuracy. The simulation results show that the proposed branch predictor reduces the power consumption by 29-47%.

There have been no studies reported on the difference in cortical activation during use of volar and dorsal hand *** attempted to investigate the difference in cortical activation in the somatosensory cortical area during use of volar and dorsal hand splints by functional magnetic resonance imaging（f MRI）.We recruited eight healthy volunteers.f MRI was performed while subjects who were fitted with volar or dorsal hand splints performed grasp-release *** of interest were placed on the primary motor cortex（M1）,primary somatosensory cortex（S1）,posterior parietal cortex（PPC）,and secondary somatosensory cortex（S2）.Results of group analysis of f MRI data showed that the total numbers of activated voxels in all ROIs were significantly higher during use of volar hand splint（3,376） compared with that（1,416） during use of dorsal hand *** each ROI,use of volar hand splint induced greater activation in all ROIs（M1：1,748,S1 ：1,455,PPC：23,and S2：150） compared with use of dorsal hand splint（M1：783,S1：625,PPC：0,and S2：8）.The peak activated value was also higher during use of volar hand splint（t-value：17.29） compared with that during use of dorsal hand splint（t-value：13.11）.Taken together,use of volar hand splint induced greater cortical activation relevant to somatosensory function than use of dorsal hand *** result would be important for the physiatrist and therapist to apply appropriate somatosensory input in patients with brain injury.

Despite recent improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer(PC),clinical outcomes remain ***,there are no effective prognostic or predictive biomarkers or options beyond carbohydrate antigen 19-9 for personalized and precise *** tumor cells(CTCs),as a member of the liquid biopsy family,could be a promising biomarker;however,the rarity of CTCs in peripheral venous blood limits their clinical *** the first venous drainage of PC is portal circulation,the portal vein can be a more suitable location for the detection of *** ultrasound-guided portal venous sampling of CTCs is both feasible and *** studies have suggested that the detection rate and number of CTCs may be higher in the portal blood than in the peripheral *** counts in the portal blood are highly associated with hepatic metastasis,recurrence after surgery,and *** phenotypic and genotypic properties measured in the captured portal CTCs can help us to understand tumor heterogeneity and predict the prognosis of *** sample sizes and heterogeneous CTC detection methods limit the studies to ***,a large number of prospective studies are needed to corroborate portal CTCs as a valid biomarker in PC.
