Increased susceptibility of algal symbionts to photo-inhibition resulting from the perturbation of coral gastrodermal membrane trafficking

The stability of cnidarian-dinoflagellate endosymbioses is dependent upon communication between the host gastrodermal cell and the symbionts housed within *** the molecular mechanisms remain to be elucidated,existing evidence suggests that the establishment of these endosymbioses may involve the sorting of membrane *** present study examined the role of host gastrodermal membranes in regulating symbiont(genus Symbiodinium) photosynthesis in the stony coral Euphyllia *** comparison with the photosynthetic behavior of Symbiodinium in culture,the Symbiodinium populations within isolated symbiotic gastrodermal cells(SGCs) exhibited a significant degree of photo-inhibition,as determined by a decrease in the photochemical efficiency of photosystem II(F v /F m).This photo-inhibition coincided with increases in plasma membrane perturbation and oxidative activity in the *** trafficking in SGCs was examined using the metabolism of a fluorescent lipid analog,N-[5-(5,7-dimethyl boron dipyrromethene difluoride)-1-pentanoyl]-D-erythro-Sphingosylphosphorylcholine(BODIPY-Sphingomyelin or BODIPY-SM).Light irradiation altered both membrane distribution and trafficking of BODIPY-SM,resulting in metabolic *** depletion of the SGC plasma membranes by methyl--cyclodextrin retarded BODIPY-SM degradation and further augmented Symbiodinium *** results indicate that Symbiodinium photo-inhibition may be related to perturbation of the host gastrodermal membrane,providing evidence for the pivotal role of host membrane trafficking in the regulation of this environmentally important coral-dinoflagellate endosymbiosis.

The Growth Value Model(GVM)proposed theoretical closed form formulas consist-ing of Return on Equity(ROE)and the Price-to-Book value ratio(P/B)for fair stock prices and expected rates of *** regression analysis can be employed to verify these theoretical closed form formulas,they cannot be explored by classical quintile or decile sorting approaches with intuition due to the essence of multi-factors and dynamical *** article uses visualization techniques to help intuitively explore *** discerning findings and contributions of this paper is that we put forward the concept of the smart frontier,which can be regarded as the reasonable lower limit of P/B at a specific ROE by exploring fair P/B with ROE-P/B 2D dynamical process *** coefficients in the formula can be determined by the quantile regression analysis with market *** moving paths of the ROE and P/B in the cur-rent quarter and the subsequent quarters show that the portfolios at the lower right of the curve approaches this curve and stagnates here after the portfolios are ***,exploring expected rates of return with ROE-P/B-Return 3D dynamical process visualization,the results show that the data outside of the lower right edge of the“smart frontier”has positive quarterly return rates not only in the t+1 quarter but also in the t+2 *** farther away the data in the t quarter is from the“smart frontier”,the larger the return rates in the t+1 and t+2 quarter.

Uveitis,or inflammation of the uveal tissues(iris,ciliary body and the choroid),and its contiguous structures,can lead to severe visual impairment and is among the leading causes of vision impairment worldwide(1).In clinical practice,specialists in uveitis and ocular immunology are called upon to manage a range of uveitis syndromes-infectious disease,noninfectious autoimmune conditions,and masquerade syndromes such as ***,ophthalmologists of all subspecialties(i.e.,medical and surgical retina,corneal surgeons,orbital/oculoplastic surgeons,and comprehensive ophthalmologists)are called upon to manage uveitis syndromes,emphasizing clear importance to understanding common uveitis syndromes,diagnostic workups,and the state-of-the-art in uveitis and ocular inflammation care.

Successful management of delirium with dexmedetomidine in a patient with haloperidol-induced neuroleptic malignant syndrome:A case report

BACKGROUND We report a case of lorazepam-induced agitated delirium treated with haloperidol,which in turn triggered the onset of neuroleptic malignant syndrome(NMS).The latter condition,a medical emergency,was effectively treated with medical treatment and dexmedetomidine,a versatile and highly selective shortacting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist with sedative-hypnotic and anxiolytic *** SUMMARY A 65-year-old man with a history of bipolar disorder presented to the emergency department with severe abdominal discomfort after binge *** his hospital stay,he received intravenous lorazepam for *** the next day,he became delirious and was thus treated with seven doses(5 mg each)of haloperidol over a 48 h *** of NMS(hyperthermia,rigidity,myoclonus of upper limbs,impaired consciousness,tachypnea,and dark urine)became apparent and haloperidol was immediately suspended and brisk diuresis was *** intensive care unit admission,he was confused,disoriented,and markedly *** infusion was started with the goal of achieving a Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale score of-1 or *** was resolved gradually and the patient stabilized,permitting discontinuation of dexmedetomidine after 3 *** Dexmedetomidine may be clinically helpful for the management of NMS,most likely because of its sympatholytic activity.

Transcriptome analysis creates a new era of precision medicine for managing recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma

The high incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)recurrence negatively impacts outcomes of patients treated with curative intent despite advances in surgical techniques and other locoregional liver-targeting *** the past few decades,the emergence of transcriptome analysis tools,including real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR,microarrays,and RNA sequencing,has not only largely contributed to our knowledge about the pathogenesis of recurrent HCC but also led to the development of outcome prediction models based on differentially expressed gene *** recent years,the single-cell RNA sequencing technique has revolutionized our ability to study the complicated crosstalk between cancer cells and the immune environment,which may benefit further investigations on the role of different immune cells in HCC recurrence and the identification of potential therapeutic *** the present article,we summarized the major findings yielded with these transcriptome methods within the framework of a causal model consisting of three domains:primary cancer cells;carcinogenic stimuli;and tumor *** provided a comprehensive review of the insights that transcriptome analyses have provided into diagnostics,surveillance,and treatment of HCC recurrence.

A lightweight authentication scheme with user untraceability

With the rapid growth of electronic commerce and associated demands on variants of Internet based applications,application systems providing network resources and business services are in high demand around the *** guarantee robust security and computational efficiency for service retrieval,a variety of authentication schemes have been ***,most of these schemes have been found to be lacking when subject to a formal security ***,Chang et al.(2014) introduced a formally provable secure authentication protocol with the property of ***,based on our analysis,the proposed scheme fails to provide the property of user-untraceability as claimed,and is insecure against user impersonation attack,server counterfeit attack,and man-in-the-middle *** this paper,we demonstrate the details of these malicious attacks.A security enhanced authentication scheme is proposed to eliminate all identified weaknesses.

Developing Three-Dimensional Beamshaping Techniques on Volumetric Random Arrays to Suppress Array Sidelobes

This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3-D) amplitude tapering technique on volumetric random arrays to minimize array sidelobes and emulate phased array operations on mobile platforms. Our ultimate goal is to realize wireless phased array applications carried out by mobile platforms;in this paper, we focus on the development of collaborative beamforming algorithms. This beamshaping technique mitigates the discontinuity of the current distribution along the array aperture and lower array sidelobe level (SLL) by specially paying attention to the array element’s depth deviation. In this work, step by step amplitude tapering procedures are clearly illustrated. Further, a reconfigurable phased array with sixteen patch antennas is tested to verify the fidelity of the 3-D beamshaping algorithm. Measured and simulated radiation patterns are benchmarked to evaluate the sidelobe suppression results, and the best sidelobe suppressed region is around the array’s main beam.
