Buckling optimization of curvilinear fiber-reinforced composite structures using a parametric level set method

Owing to their excellent performance and large design space,curvilinear fiber-reinforced composite structures have gained considerable attention in engineering fields such as aerospace and automobile.In addition to the stiffness and strength of such structures,their stability also needs to be taken into account in the design.This study proposes a level-set-based optimization framework for maximizing the buckling load of curvilinear fiber-reinforced composite structures.In the proposed method,the contours of the level set function are used to represent fiber paths.For a composite laminate with a certain number of layers,one level set function is defined by radial basis functions and expansion coefficients for each layer.Furthermore,the fiber angle at an arbitrary point is the tangent orientation of the contour through this point.In the finite element of buckling,the stiffness and geometry matrices of an element are related to the fiber angle at the element centroid.This study considers the parallelism constraint for fiber paths.With the sensitivity calculation of the objective and constraint functions,the method of moving asymptotes is utilized to iteratively update all the expansion coefficients regarded as design variables.Two numerical examples under different boundary conditions are given to validate the proposed approach.Results show that the optimized curved fiber paths tend to be parallel and equidistant regardless of whether the composite laminates contain holes or not.Meanwhile,the buckling resistance of the final design is significantly improved.

The electrical tunneling sensors have excellent potential in the next generation of single-molecule measurement and sequencing technologies due to their high sensitivity and spatial resolution capabilities.Electrical tunneling signals that have been measured at a high sampling rate may provide detailed molecular information.Despite the extraordinarily large amount of data that has been gathered,it is still difficult to correlate signal transformations with molecular processes,which creates great obstacles for signal analysis.Machine learning is an effective tool for data analysis that is currently gaining more significance.It has demonstrated promising results when used to analyze data from single-molecule electrical measurements.In order to extract meaningful information from raw measurement data,we have combined intelligent machine learning with tunneling electrical signals.For the purpose of analyzing tunneling electrical signals,we investigated the clustering approach,which is a classic algorithm in machine learning.A clustering model was built that combines the advantages of hierarchical clustering and Gaussian mixture model clustering.Additionally,customized statistical algorithms were designed.It has been proven to efficiently gather molecular information and enhance the effectiveness of data analysis.

Buckling Optimization of Curved Grid Stiffeners through the Level Set Based Density Method

Stiffened structures have great potential for improvingmechanical performance,and the study of their stability is of great interest.In this paper,the optimization of the critical buckling load factor for curved grid stiffeners is solved by using the level set based density method,where the shape and cross section(including thickness and width)of the stiffeners can be optimized simultaneously.The grid stiffeners are a combination ofmany single stiffenerswhich are projected by the corresponding level set functions.The thickness and width of each stiffener are designed to be independent variables in the projection applied to each level set function.Besides,the path of each single stiffener is described by the zero iso-contour of the level set function.All the single stiffeners are combined together by using the p-norm method to obtain the stiffener grid.The proposed method is validated by several numerical examples to optimize the critical buckling load factor.

In implantable electrophysiological recording systems,the headstage typically comprises neural probes that interface with brain tissue and integrated circuit chips for signal processing.While advancements in MEMS and CMOS technology have significantly improved these components,their interconnection still relies on conventional printed circuit boards and sophisticated adapters.This conventional approach adds considerable weight and volume to the package,especially for high channel count systems.To address this issue,we developed a through-polymer via(TPV)method inspired by the through-silicon via(TSV)technique in advanced three-dimensional packaging.This innovation enables the vertical integration of flexible probes,amplifier chips,and PCBs,realizing a flexible,lightweight,and integrated device(FLID).The total weight of the FLIDis only 25%that of its conventional counterparts relying on adapters,which significantly increased the activity levels of animals wearing the FLIDs to nearly match the levels of control animals without implants.Furthermore,by incorporating a platinum-iridium alloy as the top layer material for electrical contact,the FLID realizes exceptional electrical performance,enabling in vivo measurements of both local field potentials and individual neuron action potentials.These findings showcase the potential of FLIDs in scaling up implantable neural recording systems and mark a significant advancement in the field of neurotechnology.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1(PGC-1)family(PGC-1s),consisting of three members encompassing PGC-1a,PGC-1β,and PGC-1-related coactivator(PRC),was discovered more than a quarter-century ago.PGC-1s are essential coordinators of many vital cellular events,including mitochondrial functions,oxidative stress,endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis,and inflammation.Accumulating evidence has shown that PGC-1s are implicated in many diseases,such as cancers,cardiac diseases and cardiovascular diseases,neurological disorders,kidney diseases,motor system diseases,and metabolic disorders.Examining the upstream modulators and co-activated partners of PGC-1s and identifying critical biological events modulated by downstream effectors of PGC-1s contribute to the presentation of the elaborate network of PGC-1s.Furthermore,discussing the correlation between PGC-1s and diseases as well as summarizing the therapy targeting PGC-1s helps make individualized and precise intervention methods.In this review,we summarize basic knowledge regarding the PGC-1s family as well as the molecular regulatory network,discuss the physio-pathological roles of PGc-1s in human diseases,review the application of PGC-1s,including the diagnostic and prognostic value of PGC-1s and several therapies in pre-clinical studies,and suggest several directions for future investigations.This review presents the immense potential of targeting PGC-1s in the treatment of diseases and hopefully facilitates the promotion of PGC-1s as new therapeutic targets.

Nitrogen(N)-doped carbon materials as metal catalyst supports have attracted signifi cant attention,but the eff ect of N dopants on catalytic performance remains unclear,especially for complex reaction processes such as Fischer-Tropsch synthesis(FTS).Herein,we engineered ruthenium(Ru)FTS catalysts supported on N-doped carbon overlayers on TiO_(2)nanoparticles.By regulating the carbonization temperatures,we successfully controlled the types and contents of N dopants to identify their impacts on metal-support interactions(MSI).Our fi ndings revealed that N dopants establish a favorable surface environment for electron transfer from the support to the Ru species.Moreover,pyridinic N demonstrates the highest electron-donating ability,followed by pyrrolic N and graphitic N.In addition to realizing excellent catalytic stability,strengthening the interaction between Ru sites and N dopants increases the Ru^(0)/Ru^(δ+)ratios to enlarge the active site numbers and surface electron density of Ru species to enhance the strength of adsorbed CO.Consequently,it improves the catalyst’s overall performance,encompassing intrinsic and apparent activities,as well as its ability for carbon chain growth.Accordingly,the as-synthesized Ru/TiO_(2)@CN-700 catalyst with abundant pyridine N dopants exhibits a superhigh C_(5+)time yield of 219.4 mol CO/(mol Ru·h)and C_(5+)selectivity of 85.5%.

Insights into in-situ imbibition behavior of fracturing fluid in propped shale fractures based on nuclear magnetic resonance:A case study from Longmaxi Formation shale,Sichuan Basin,China

Shale gas is an important component of unconventional oil and gas resources.Studying the imbibition behavior is helpful to optimize flowback parameters and enhance gas recovery.Recent imbibition studies have focused on shale matrix,and the pressure conditions discussed were mostly atmospheric.The initial imbibition behavior begins from propped fractures to matrix,but there are few studies working on explaining the imbibition behavior in propped fractures or the phenomenon of many shale wells exhibit higher productivity after a“soaking”period.Therefore,propped fracture samples were designed for imbibition and migration experiments.In order to accurately study the mechanism and main influencing factors of fracturing fluid imbibition and migration in propped and unpropped shale fractures under high temperature and high pressure,a series of experiments based on nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)were carried out.Results showed that NMR T_(2) spectra of all samples exhibited a bimodal distribution.The final imbibition volume of fracturing fluid was positively related to pressure and fracture width.The imbibition effect of fracturing fluid was more evident in matrix pores under high pressure.In the migration during soaking stage,the fracturing fluid gradually migrated from large pores to small pores and gradually displaced the shale gas from the matrix,thus allowing the water blocking in propped fractures to self-unlock to some extent.Gas permeability decreased in the imbibition stage,while it recovered in the migration stage to some extent.

Bioinspired Multifunctional Self-Sensing Actuated Gradient Hydrogel for Soft-Hard Robot Remote Interaction

The development of bioinspired gradient hydrogels with self-sensing actuated capabilities for remote interaction with soft-hard robots remains a challenging endeavor. Here, we propose a novel multifunctional self-sensing actuated gradient hydrogel that combines ultrafast actuation and high sensitivity for remote interaction with robotic hand. The gradient network structure, achieved through a wettability difference method involving the rapid precipitation of MoO_(2) nanosheets, introduces hydrophilic disparities between two sides within hydrogel. This distinctive approach bestows the hydrogel with ultrafast thermo-responsive actuation(21° s^(-1)) and enhanced photothermal efficiency(increase by 3.7 ℃ s^(-1) under 808 nm near-infrared). Moreover, the local cross-linking of sodium alginate with Ca^(2+) endows the hydrogel with programmable deformability and information display capabilities. Additionally, the hydrogel exhibits high sensitivity(gauge factor 3.94 within a wide strain range of 600%), fast response times(140 ms) and good cycling stability. Leveraging these exceptional properties, we incorporate the hydrogel into various soft actuators, including soft gripper, artificial iris, and bioinspired jellyfish, as well as wearable electronics capable of precise human motion and physiological signal detection. Furthermore, through the synergistic combination of remarkable actuation and sensitivity, we realize a self-sensing touch bioinspired tongue. Notably, by employing quantitative analysis of actuation-sensing, we realize remote interaction between soft-hard robot via the Internet of Things. The multifunctional self-sensing actuated gradient hydrogel presented in this study provides a new insight for advanced somatosensory materials, self-feedback intelligent soft robots and human–machine interactions.

Effects of loneliness and isolation on cardiovascular diseases:a two sample Mendelian Randomization Study

BACKGROUND Loneliness and isolation are associated with multiple cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),but there is a lack of research on whether they were causally linked.We conducted a Mendelian Randomization(MR)study to explore causal relationships between loneliness and isolation and multiple CVDs.METHODS Single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with loneliness and isolation were identified from a genome-wide association study(GWAS)of 455,364 individuals of European ancestry in the IEU GWAS database.Summary data for 15 CVDs were also obtained from the IEU GWAS database.We used three MR methods including inverse variance weighting,MR-Egger,and weighted median estimation to assess the causal effect of exposure on outcomes.Cochran's Q test and MR-Egger intercept test were used to evaluate the heterogeneity and pleiotropy.RESULTS MR analysis showed that loneliness and isolation were significantly associated with essential hypertension(OR=1.07,95%CI:1.03-1.12),atherosclerotic heart disease(OR=1.04;95%CI:1.02-1.06),myocardial infarction(OR=1.02;95%CI:1-1.04)and angina(OR=1.04;95%CI=1.02-1.06).No heterogeneity and pleiotropy effects were found in this study.CONCLUSIONS Causal relationship of loneliness and isolation with CVDs were found in this study.

Near-infrared(NIR)phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes/laser diodes(LEDs/LDs)are prospective lighting sources for NIR spectroscopy.However,developing NIR phosphor materials with desired thermal robustness and high photoelectric efficiency is a crucial challenge for their applications.In this work,based on the cationic radius matching effect,a series of(Lu,Y)_(3)(Al,Sc,Cr)_(2)Al_(3)O_(12)NIR phosphor ceramics(LuYScCr NIR-PCs)were fabricated by vacuum sintering.Excellent thermal stability(95%@150℃)was obtained in the prepared NIR-PCs,owing to their weak electron-phonon coupling effect(small Huang-Rhys factor).Being excited at 460 nm,NIR-PCs realized a broadband emission(650-850 nm)with internal quantum efficiency(IQE)of 60.68%.Combining NIR-PCs with LED/LD chips,the maximum output power of the encapsulated LED prototype was 447 mW@300 mA with photoelectric efficiency of as high as 18.6%@180 mA,and the maximum output power of the LD prototype was 814 mW@2.5 A.The working temperatures of NIR-PCs were 70.8℃@300 mA(LED)and 102.8℃@3 A(LD).Finally,the prepared NIR-PCs applied in food detection were verified in this study,demonstrating their anticipated application prospects in the future.
