BACKGROUND Phosphoglyceride crystal deposition disease(PCDD)is a rare acquired disease in which phospholipid crystals deposit in bone and soft tissue long after surgery,trauma,or repeated *** SUMMARY A 60-year-old-woman was referred to our department because of multiple abdominal masses after open splenectomy for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura 29 years *** the masses showed marked fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG)uptake on ^(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography(^(18)F-FDGPET)and were strongly suspected to be malignant *** biopsies were performed,and the abdominal masses were found to be aligned vertically,three in a row,along the tissue layers cut in the patient’s previous *** finding of the specimens showed foreign body granuloma consisting of histiocytes and multinucleated giant cells accumulating around needle-like *** crystals were confirmed as phosphoglyceride by Raman spectroscopy,and PCDD was *** our knowledge,this is the first report of PCDD diagnosed by Raman *** We made a definitive diagnosis of PCDD in a patient with multiple tumors showing marked FDG uptake on ^(18)F-FDG-PET by incisional biopsy and composition analysis using Raman spectroscopy,a method that has not previously been reported for the diagnosis of PCDD.

Multiple carcinoids in the duodenum, pancreas and stomach accompanied with type A gastritis: A case report

We report a case of multiple duodenal, pancreatic, and gastric carcinoids. A 67-year old woman was admitted to our hospital for treatment of a duodenal carcinoid. Laboratory tests revealed that the patient was associated with macrocytic anemia and hypergastrinemia, and type A gastritis was shown by gastrofiberscopy. During surgery, another tumor was incidentally found in the head of the pancreas. The tumors in the duodenum and pancreas were completely excised by pancreatoduodenectomy and immunohistologically diagnosed as gastrin-and serotonin-producing carcinoids, respectively. Pathological examination revealed that in addition to the grossly found carcinoids, there were subclinical carcinoids, one of which was an endocrine cell micronest, located in the stomach and duodenum. The tumors in the duodenum, pancreas, and stomach showed different characteristics from one another morphologically and immunochemically. Although no definitive evidence has been obtained, some sort of genetic anomaly may have been involved in this case, and hypergastrinemia due to duodenal gastrinoma may induce multiple gastric carcinoids.

Superior mesenteric artery(SMA)syndrome(also known as Wilkie's syndrome,cast syndrome,or aorto-mesenteric compass syndrome)is an obstruction of the duodenum caused by extrinsic compression between the SMA and the *** median age of patients is 23 years old(range 0-91 years old)and predominant in females over males with a ratio of 3:*** symptoms are variable,consisting of postprandial abdominal pain,nausea and vomiting,early satiety,anorexia,and weight loss and can mimic anorexia nervosa or functional *** recurrent vomiting leads to aspiration pneumonia or respiratory depression via metabolic alkalosis,early diagnosis is *** useful diagnostic modalities are computed tomography as a standard tool and ultrasonography,which has advantages in safety and capability of real-time assessments of SMA mobility and duodenum *** initial treatment is usually conservative,including postural change,gastroduodenal decompression,and nutrient management(success rates:70%-80%).If conservative therapy fails,surgical treatment(i.e.,laparoscopic duodenojejunostomy)is recommended(success rates:80%-100%).

Ion Beam Surface Modification of Y-TZP and Effects of Subsequent Annealing

Tetragonal zirconia polycrystals containing 3 mol% yttria (3Y-TZP), which show Superplasticity at high temperatures, were irradiated using 130 MeV Zr+" ions in the TANDEM accelerator facility at Tokai Research Establishment, JAERI. The irradiation induced atomic displacement damage was analyzed by TRIM code. Changes in the mechanical properties and fracture behavior caused by the ion irradiation and the effects of subsequent annealing were studied. The distribution of micro-indentation depth as a function of the indentation position from the irradiated surface to the specimen interior was also examined. The occurrence of compressive residual stresses and increases in hardness and fracture toughness were found in the as-irradiated surface region of the specimen. The subsequent annealing revealed that these quantities were decreased gradually with raising the annealing temperature. Probable causes of the generation of the residual stress and the changes in mechanical properties and fracture mode due to the irradiation are discussed.

The Excited states of ^(88)Sr have been produced in the reaction ^(16)O(^(82)Se,4p6n)and studied using the in-beam γ spectroscopy *** high-spin level structures have been observed and established up to 8.5 MeV and 7.9 MeV excitation energy,*** on the measurements of the directional correlations ofγ-rays de-exciting oriented states and anisotropic factors ofγ-rays,spin values of the excited states have been assigned up to the highest levels observed.

The hydrogenation of CO_(2) into methanol has attracted much attention and In_(2)O_(3) is a promising *** metal elements into In_(2)O_(3)(M/In_(2)O_(3))is one of the main strategies to improve its ***,its mechanism and active sites remain unclear and need to be further ***,the noble‐metal‐free In_(x)‐Co_(y) oxides catalysts were ***‐improved performance and obvious product selectivity shift were *** optimized catalyst(In_(1)‐Co_(4))(9.7 mmol g_(cat)^(–1) h^(–1))showed five times methanol yields than pure In_(2)O_(3)(2.2 mmol g_(cat)^(–1) h^(–1))(P=4.0 MPa,T=300°C,GHSV=24000 cm^(3)_(STP) g_(cat)^(–1) h^(–1),H_(2):CO_(2)=3).And the cobalt‐catalyzed CO_(2) methanation activity was suppressed,although cobalt was most of the metal *** unravel this selectivity shift,detailed catalysts performance evaluation,together with several in‐situ and ex‐situ characterizations,were employed on cobalt and In‐Co for comparative *** results indicated CO_(2) hydrogenation on cobalt and In‐Co catalyst both followed the formate pathway,and In‐Co reconstructed and generated a surface In_(2)O_(3)‐enriched core‐shell‐like structure under a reductive *** enriched In_(2)O_(3) at the surface significantly enhanced CO_(2) adsorption capacity and well stabilized the intermediates of CO_(2) ***_(2) and carbon‐containing intermediates adsorbed much stronger on In‐Co than cobalt led to a feasible surface C/H ratio,thus allowing the*CH_(3)O to desorb to produce CH_(3)OH instead of being over‐hydrogenated to CH_(4).

Background:A colonoscopy can detect colorectal diseases,including cancers,polyps,and inflammatory bowel diseases.A computer-aided diagnosis(CAD)system using deep convolutional neural networks(CNNs)that can recognize anatomical locations during a colonoscopy could efficiently assist *** aimed to construct a CAD system using a CNN to distinguish colorectal images from parts of the cecum,ascending colon,transverse colon,descending colon,sigmoid colon,and ***:We constructed a CNN by training of 9,995 colonoscopy images and tested its performance by 5,121 independent colonoscopy images that were categorized according to seven anatomical locations:the terminal ileum,the cecum,ascending colon to transverse colon,descending colon to sigmoid colon,the rectum,the anus,and indistinguishable *** examined images taken during total colonoscopy performed between January 2017 and November 2017 at a single *** evaluated the concordance between the diagnosis by endoscopists and those by the *** main outcomes of the study were the sensitivity and specificity of the CNN for the anatomical categorization of colonoscopy ***:The constructed CNN recognized anatomical locations of colonoscopy images with the following areas under the curves:0.979 for the terminal ileum;0.940 for the cecum;0.875 for ascending colon to transverse colon;0.846 for descending colon to sigmoid colon;0.835 for the rectum;and 0.992 for the *** the test process,the CNN system correctly recognized 66.6%of ***:We constructed the new CNN system with clinically relevant performance for recognizing anatomical locations of colonoscopy images,which is the first step in constructing a CAD system that will support us during colonoscopy and provide an assurance of the quality of the colonoscopy procedure.

So these genes were called as early responsive gene. Activatedearly-responsive genes Promote the transcription of the target gene, and then cell functionswere modified.
