With the development of second-generation contrast agents and advancement in contrast harmonic imaging,contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(CEUS)now has the capacity to sensitively and accurately show tumor ***,marked improvements have been achieved in the diagnosis of focal liver lesions(FLLs),including hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),by *** contrast to other agents,Kupffer cells in liver sinusoids take up *** contrast enhancement phases occur in CEUS with Sonazoid:a vascular phase and Kupffer *** obtained in the Kupffer phase have higher diagnostic sensitivity for hepatic malignancies because the majority of these malignancies do not contain Kupffer *** images obtained in the vascular phase markedly narrow the clinical differential diagnoses of *** sustainable detection of inconspicuous HCC,adequate guidance of ablation therapy,and accurate assessment of treatment responses in HCC are all facilitated by *** principles,clinical applications,and techniques of CEUS with Sonazoid in the diagnosis of HCC will be reviewed herein.

Introduction Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the leading causes of cancer-related *** HCC typically occurs in patients with advanced liver disease,therapeutic decisions depend on the degree of underlying liver dysfunction and tumor *** treatment options,which result in 5-year survival rates of 60–80%(surgical resection)and 40–70%(local ablative therapies),are restricted to patients with early-stage HCC(1,2).However,surgical resection and local ablative therapies are limited by high tumor recurrence rates of 50%at 3 years and 70%at 5 years(1-6).Thus,monitoring treatment response is imperative for the clinical management of HCC patients(7),highlighting the need for adjuvant therapies.

The aimof this study was to investigate titaniummembranes(TMs)layered between poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)containing fluvastatin(FS)for use in guided bone *** consisting of PLGA,FS-containing PLGA(PLGA–FS),TM layered between PLGA(TM–PLGA)and TM layered between FS-containing PLGA(TM–PLGA–FS)were prepared,and their mechanical and chemical properties were *** TM groups showed statistically significant differences,in terms of tensile strength and elastic modulus,when compared to the PLGA *** release of FS was demonstrated to be higher in the TM–PLGA–FS group than the PLGA–FS group after Day *** effect of membrane implantation on the calvaria of Wistar rats was measured using micro-computed tomography(micro-CT)and morphometrical analyses,as well as histological *** 4weeks,the TM–PLGA–FS and TM–PLGA groups were found to have lower bone mineral density but higher bone formation,when compared to the control and PLGA *** 8weeks,the use of TM–PLGA–FS membranes significantly enhanced bone formation in the calvaria model,compared to the other *** results suggest that a TM layered between PLGA containing FS potentially enhances bone formation,thus showing good potential as a GBR membrane.

Dual Torch Plasma Arc Furnace for Medical Waste Treatment

In this paper, characteristics of a treatment and operated at atmospheric pressure dual torch plasma arc used for hazardous waste are studied, and also compared with those of the multi-torch plasma arc and the single torch plasma arc. The dual torch plasma arc is generated between the cathode and anode with argon as the working gas. The temperature distributions of the plasma arc are measured using a spectroscope and line pair method with the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium （LTE） for the DC arc current I=100 A and argon flow rate Q = 15 slpm. The measurements show that the temperatures of the dual torch arc plasma in the regions near the cathode, the anode and the center point are 10,000 K, 11,000 K and 9,000 K, respectively. And the high temperature region of the multi torch plasma arc is of double or much wider size than that of a conventional dual torch plasma arc and single plasma torch. Based on the preceding studies, a dual torch plasma arc furnace is developed in this study. The measured gas temperature at the center region of the argon arc is about 11,000 K for the case of I=200 A and Q=30 slpm operated in atmosphere.

With rapidly growing of Renewable Energy Sources(RESs)in renewable power systems,several disturbances influence on the power systems such as;lack of system inertia that results from replacing the synchronous generators with RESs and frequency/voltage fluctuations that resulting from the intermittent nature of the ***,the modern power systems become more susceptible to the system instability than conventional power ***,in this study,a new application of Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage(SMES)(i.e.,auxiliary Load Frequency Control(LFC))has been integrated with the secondary frequency control(i.e.,LFC)for frequency stability enhancement of the Egyptian Power System(EPS)due to high RESs ***,the coordinated control strategy is based on the PI controller that is optimally designed by the Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)algorithm to minimize the frequency deviations of the *** EPS includes both conventional generation units(i.e.,non-reheat,reheat and hydraulic power plants)with inherent nonlinearities,and RESs(i.e.,wind and solar energy).System modelling and simulation results are carried out using Matlab/Simulink^(■)*** simulation results reveal the robustness of the proposed coordinated control strategy to preserve the system stability of the EPS with high penetration of RESs for different contingencies.

The pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis(RA) remains to be completely elucidated so far; however, it is known that proinflammatory cytokines play a pivotal role in the induction of RA. Tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α), in particular, is considered to play a central role in bone destruction by mediating the abnormal activation of osteoclasts or the production of proteolytic enzymes through direct or indirect mechanisms. The use of TNF-α blocking agents has a significant impact on RA therapy. Anti-TNF-α blocking agents such as infliximab are very effective for treatment of RA, especially for the prevention of articular destruction. We have previously shown that several proteins exhibited extensive changes in their expression after amelioration of RA with infliximab treatment. Among the proteins, connective tissue growth factor(CTGF) has a significantrole for the development of RA. Herein, we review the function of CTGF in the pathogenesis of RA and discuss the possibility of a novel treatment for RA. We propose that CTGF is a potentially novel effector molecule in the pathogenesis of RA. Blocking the CTGF pathways by biological agents may have great beneficial effect in patients with RA.

Objective:Our recent studies have shown that blood components,including haemoglobin and iron,contribute to hydrocephalus development and brain injury after intraventricular haemorrhage(IVH).The current study investigated the role of lipocalin 2(LCN2),a protein involved in iron handling,in the ventricular dilation and neuroinflammation caused by brain injury in a mouse model of ***:Female wild-type(WT)C57BL/6 mice and LCN2-deficient(LCN2^(−/−))mice had an intraventricular injection of haemoglobin,and control mice received an equivalent amount of *** was performed presurgery and postsurgery to measure ventricular volume and the brains were used for either immunohistochemistry or western ***:Ventricular dilation was observed in WT mice at 24 h after haemoglobin(25 mg/mL,20µL)injection(12.5±2.4 vs 8.6±1.5 mm^(3) in the control,p<0.01).Western blotting showed that LCN2 was significantly upregulated in the periventricular area(p<0.01).LCN2 was mainly expressed in astrocytes,whereas the LCN2 receptor was detected in astrocytes,microglia/macrophages and ***-induced ventricle dilation and glia activation were less in LCN2^(−/−)mice(p<0.01).Injection of high-dose haemoglobin(50 mg/mL)resulted in lower mortality in LCN2^(−/−)mice(27%vs 86%in WT;p<0.05).Conclusions:Intraventricular haemoglobin caused LCN2 upregulation and ventricular *** resulted in lower mortality and less ventricular dilation in LCN2^(−/−)*** results suggest that LCN2 has a role in haemoglobin-induced brain injury and may be a therapeutic target for IVH.

Applications of Cyclometalation Five-Membered Ring Products and Intermediates as Catalytic Agents

The five-membered ring products and intermediates of cyclometalation reactions are very easily synthesized via donation from a hetero atom to a metal atom, which leads to the very high functionality of the product. This functionality is caused by the donation of the hetero atom and various types of metal atoms, halogen atom and other ligands such as alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, Cp, Cp*, aryl groups and heterocyclic compounds. These products have three types of catalytic applications: cyclometalation five-membered ring products as catalysts, cyclometalation five-membered ring intermediates as catalyst agents and cyclometalation five-membered ring intermediates with unconventional substrates and as catalyst actions. Because of the high functionality of these products, the applications of them have been increasing not only as the metathesis in the first and second generations of Hoveyda-Grubbs catalysts but also as in chiral reactions, cross-coupling reactions and polymerization reactions. The above cyclometalation products have been utilized for the production in many industrial fields such as pharmaceuticals, OLEDs, carbon dioxide utilizations, dye-sensitizer solar cells and sensors. We expect that these products would be used for the development of further new industrial products.

Local ablative techniques-percutaneous ethanol injection, microwave coagulation therapy and radiofrequency ablation (RFA)-have been developed to treat unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The success rate of percutaneous ablation therapy for HCC depends on correct targeting of the tumor via an imaging technique. However, probe insertion often is not completely accurate for small HCC nodules, which are poorly def ined on conventional B-mode ultrasound (US) alone. Thus, multiple sessions of ablation therapy are frequently required in diffi cult cases. By means of two breakthroughs in US technology, harmonic imaging and the development of second-generation contrast agents, dynamic contrast-enhanced harmonic US imaging with an intravenous contrast agent can depict tumor vascularity sensitively and accurately, and is able to evaluate small hypervascular HCCs even when B-mode US cannot adequately characterize the tumors. Therefore, dynamic contrast-enhanced US can facilitate RFA electrode placement in hypervascular HCC, which is poorly depicted by B-mode US. The use of dynamic contrast-enhanced US guidance in ablation therapy for liver cancer is an effi cient approach. Here, we present an overview of the current status of dynamic contrast-enhanced US-guided ablation therapy, and summarize the current indications and outcomes of reported clinical use in comparison with that of other modalities.
