Anthropometric and Physical Performance Profiles of High School Age American Football Players: 11th and 12th Grade Japanese Athletes

Purpose To compare anthropometric and physical performance profiles of Japanese 11th and 12th grade American football players within each positional *** Fifty-two 11th and 12th grade American football players from two Japanese high schools participated in the study during the summer pre-season *** performed anthropometric(height and body mass)and physical(vertical jump,broad jump,40-yard dash,pro-agility shuttle 4-kg medicine ball chest throw,front throw,and back throw)*** jump momentum and 10-yard sprint momentum were also calculated by multiplying the velocity and body *** were divided into two groups by playing positions:skill players and *** Skill players in the 12th grade were better at medicine ball chest throw(d=0.73,P=0.04)and vertical jump momen-tum(d=0.75,P=0.03)than those in the 11th ***,there were no differences in any measurements(P>0.05)between linemen from the two *** The current study suggests that upper and lower body absolute power and momentum production can be improved for skill players even over 17 years *** the other hand,body size and speed,attributes that did not change between 11th and 12th grades,seem to be essential talent identification criteria in the current *** study is needed to monitor longitudinal performance improvements in implementing talent development programs by focusing on the quality of speed,agility and power development at the youth level.

Time-dependent effects of castration on the bladder function and histological changes in the bladder and blood vessels

We examined the effect of androgens on bladder blood flow （BBF）, bladder function and histological changes in castrated male rats. Male Wistar rats were classified into unoperated group （control group）, groups castrated at the age of 8weeks （group 8wPC） and groups castrated at the age of 4weeks （group 4wPC）. Each rat was used at the age of 20weeks. BBF was measured using fluorescent microspheres. Bladder cystometry was performed without anesthesia or restraint; the bladder was first irrigated with saline and then with 0.25% acetic acid （AA） solution. Maximum voiding pressure and voiding interval were measured. The bladder and lilac artery were histologically examined for differences in smooth muscle and quantity of collagen fiber to analyze the effect of castration on the smooth muscle content. No differences were noted in BBF following castration. The voiding intervals for all groups were shortened （P 〈 0.001） following AA irrigation. No significant difference was noted in the maximum voiding pressure. Histological changes were observed in bladder and lilac artery. Smooth muscle/collagen ratio at the bladder was lower in groups 8wPC and 4wPC compared to the control group （P 〈 0.01）, while that at the lilac artery was decreased in group 4wPC compared to the control group （P〈 0.001）. In conclusion, our findings indicate that castration does not alter BBF, but leads to histological changes in the bladder as well as its associated blood vessels.

Flat friction spot joining of aluminum alloy to carbon fiber reinforced polymer sheets:Experiment and simulation

The Al alloy and carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP)hybrid structures,incorporating the performance advantages of the two materials,have been attracting more attention in high-end manufacturing *** the current investigation,the flat friction spot joining(FSJ)was employed in joining the AA6061-T6 alloy and CFRP *** significance of temperature distribution in influencing joint quality was highlighted through analyzing interface microstructural features,weld defect formation as well as *** understand the role of thermal energy generation and conduction in the process comprehensively,a 3D thermal-mechanical coupling finite element model was *** interfacial temperature was characterized by an uneven distribution behavior due to the inhomogeneous heat *** peak temperatures on the top surface and Al alloy to CFRP interface at 1500 rpm rotational speed with 0.1 mm/s plunging speed were 498℃and 489°C,*** peak interface temperature was reduced to286℃at 250 rpm,which produced an extremely small melted *** with the plunging speed,rotational speed was found to be the predominant parameter for determining the joint property,which could be optimized to simultaneously realize the avoidance of thermal decomposition of CFRP,the sufficient melting duration time,and the wide enough melted *** thermal histories and melted area profiles were in agreement with experimental *** findings could be utilized to provide some feasible guidance for process optimization of dissimilar FSJ of metals and composites.

Synthesis, structural characterization and magnetic property of nanocomposite materials: Intercalation compounds of FePS_3 with 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine

Two new intercalation compounds Fe0.90PS3(phen)0.41 (1) (phen stands for 1,10-phenanthroline including a part of 1, 10-phenanthroline H+) and Fe0.83PS3(bipy)0.34 (2) (bipy stands for 2,2'-bipyridine H+ ) were synthesized by the reaction of the layered FePS, with 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine in the presence of anilinium chloride. They were characterized by elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy. The lattice spacing of the intercalate was expanded by 0.90 nm for Fe0.90PS3(phen)0.41 and 0.57 nm for Fe0.83PS3(bipy)0.34 withrespect to the pristine FePS3, indicating that the ring plane of the guests is perpendicular to the layer of the host. The UV-vis absorption spectra of the filtrate in preparation of the intercalates indicate that 1, 10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridine also acts as a complexing agent to remove intralamellar Fe2+ ions into the solution during intercalation. The magnetic properties of 1 and 2 were studied.

Involvement of Sphingosine 1-Phosphate (S1P) Receptor Type 1 and Type 4 in Migratory Response of Mouse T Cells toward S1P

Sphingosine 1-phosphate （S1P）, a pleiotropic lysophospholipid, regulates signal transduction pathway via Gprotein-coupled receptors termed S1P1-5 in several types of the cells including lymphocytes. Higher levels of S1P4 mRNA as well as S1P1 mRNA are expressed in lymphoid tissues such as the spleen, thymus, lymph nodes, and Payer＇s patches. In contrast to S1P1 that plays an essential role in lymphocyte egress, little is known about the role of S1P4 in immune system. In this study, we found that S1P at 10 to 100 nM significantly induced the cell migration and the significant levels of S1P1 and S1P4 mRNA were expressed in mouse CD4 T cells, D10.G4.1 mouse Th2 cells, and ***-2 mouse thymoma cells. In D10.G4.1 and ***-2 cells, S1P-induced migration was almost completely inhibited by pretreatment with pertussis toxin, Clostoridium difficile toxin B, and （S）-enantiomer of FTY720-phosphate, a potent agonist at S1P1 and S1P4. The members of the Rho family small GTPase, Cdc42 and Rac were activated by S1P stimulation in these cells. The transfection with dominant negative or constitutively active forms of Cdc42 and Rac revealed that the activation of both Cdc42 and Rac is essential for S1P-induced migration of these cells. The immunoprecipitation assays using CHO cells co-expressing both S1P4 and S1P1 receptors indicated that S1P4 and S1P1 are associated on the cell surface. These results suggest that the association of S1P4 and S1PI plays an important role in migratory response of mouse T cells toward S1P.

Can endoscopic submucosal dissection be safely performed in a smaller specialized clinic?

AIM:To investigate whether endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) can be safely performed at small clinics,such as the Shirakawa ***:One thousand forty-seven ESDs to treat gastrointestinal tumors were performed at the Shirakawa Clinic from April 2006 to March *** efficacy,technical feasibility and associated complications of the procedures were *** ESD procedures were performed by five *** was induced with propofol for esophagogastorduodenal ***:One thousand forty-seven ESDs were performed to treat 64 patients with esophageal cancer(E),850 patients with gastric tumors(G:764 patients with cancer,82 patients with adenomas and four others),four patients with duodenal cancer(D) and 129 patients with colorectal tumors(C:94 patients with cancer,21 patients with adenomas and 14 others).The en bloc resection rate was 94.3%(E:96.9%,G:95.8%,D:100%,C:79.8%).The median operation time was 46 min(range:4-360 min) and the mean size of the resected specimens was 18 mm(range:2-150 mm).No mortal complications were observed in association with the ESD *** occurred in 12 cases(1.1%,E:1 case,G:9 cases,D:1 case,C:1 case) and postoperative bleeding occurred in 53 cases(5.1%,G:51 cases,D:1 case,C:1 case);however,no case required either emergency surgery or blood *** of the perforations and postperative bleedings were resolved by endoscopic clipping or *** other problematic complication observed was pneumonia,which was treated with conservative ***:ESD can be safely performed in a clinic with established therapeutic methods and medical services to address potential complications.

Safety of hepatectomy for elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

The number of elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) has been *** of elderly HCC patients are a higher proportion of females,a lower rate of positive hepatitis B surface antigen,and a higher rate of positive hepatitis C *** patient selection is vital for performing hepatectomy safely in elderly HCC *** strategy should be decided by not only considering tumor stage and hepatic functional reserve,but also physiological status,including comorbid *** assessment tools have been applied to predict the risk of *** reported mortality and morbidity rates after hepatectomy in elderly HCC patients ranged from 0% to 42.9% and from 9% to 51%,*** survival rate after hepatectomy in elderly HCC patients at 5 years ranged from 26% to 75.9%.Both short-term and long-term results after hepatectomy for strictly selected elderly HCC patients are almost the same as those for younger ***,considering physiological characteristics and the high prevalence of comorbid disease in elderly patients,it is important to assess patients more meticulously and to select them strictly if scheduled to undergo major hepatectomy.
