Thermal performance of lightweight concrete applications in building envelopes in Lebanon

Innovative building materials are being used in building envelopes for reducing their heating and cooling *** paper aims to assess the thermal impact of using lightweight concrete in Lebanese building constructions by pouring an 8 cm thickness of lightweight concrete on the roof and the slab and replacing traditional hollow concrete block by lightweight concrete *** properties of two different samples were experimentally determined:the first one(558 kg/m^(3))used for the roof and the slab and the second one(1074 kg/m^(3))used for the *** numerical simulations were carried out for a Lebanese traditional detached house using the characteristics of these two *** thermally improved Light Weight Concrete building(LWC)was compared to a traditional Lebanese house base case(BC)using a dynamic building energy simulation tool in the four different Lebanese climate zones:coastal,mid-mountain,mountain,and inland *** results highlight the effectiveness of integrating LWC to building envelopes by reducing energy consumption and improving thermal comfort in both winter and summer climate conditions and in the different Lebanese climatic *** paper demonstrates that the use of LWC in the vertical walls replacing the traditional hollow blocks can reduce the heating needs by up to 9%and by up to 13%for cooling *** the other hand,adding a LWC roof screed has a very high impact on cooling and heating energy consumption,which can reach up to 74%in cooling energy savings and up to 24%in heating energy savings.

Enhancing sustainability in phosphate ore processing:Performance of frying oil as alternative flotation collector for carbonate removal

Recycling waste frying oils for the synthesis of flotation reagents presents a promising avenue for sustainable waste ***,it offers a cost-effective solution for crafting a specialized collector designed to efficiently remove carbonates and enhance phosphate enrichment in froth flotation *** study focuses on the synthesis of an anionic collector using the saponification reaction of a frying oil sample,subsequently applied to the flotation of calcite and *** elucidate the adsorption mechanisms of the frying oil collector(FrOC)and sodium oleate,a reference collector,on fluorapatite,calcite,dolomite,and quartz surfaces,comprehensive experiments were conducted,including zeta potential measurements and Fourier transform infrared *** revealed diverse adsorption affinities of the molecules towards these *** assess the practical performance of the collector,flotation tests were conducted using a natural phosphate ore mixture,employing a BoxBehnken experimental ***,under optimized conditions(pH 9,1000 g/t of FrOC,3.5 min of conditioning,and 6 min of flotation),FrOC exhibited excellent performance,with calcite and dolomite recoveries exceeding 80%,while apatite recovery in the concentrate fraction remained below 10%.This work exemplifies both circular economy practices and the distinctive approach to sustainable mineral processing.

This work presents an advanced and detailed analysis of the mechanisms of hepatitis B virus(HBV)propagation in an environment characterized by variability and *** on some biological features of the virus and the assumptions,the corresponding deterministic model is formulated,which takes into consideration the effect of *** deterministic model is extended to a stochastic framework by considering a new form of disturbance which makes it possible to simulate strong and significant *** long-term behaviors of the virus are predicted by using stochastic differential equations with second-order multiplicative α-stable *** developing the assumptions and employing the novel theoretical tools,the threshold parameter responsible for ergodicity(persistence)and extinction is *** theoretical results of the current study are validated by numerical simulations and parameters estimation is also ***,we obtain the following new interesting findings:(a)in each class,the average time depends on the value ofα;(b)the second-order noise has an inverse effect on the spread of the virus;(c)the shapes of population densities at stationary level quickly changes at certain values of α.The last three conclusions can provide a solid research base for further investigation in the field of biological and ecological modeling.

Excellent magnetic properties in ferrites are required for high-frequency applications and for wastewater treatment. Thus, the present study shows the comparison of magnetic and structural properties of Nd and Sm substituted Ni-Zn-Bi ferrites with the series Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Bi_(0.04)Nd_(x)Fe_(1.96-x)O_4(with step size 0.002)and Ni_(0.5)Zn_(0.5)Bi_(0.04)Sm_(x)Fe_(1.96-x)O_4(with step size 0.02) prepared using citrate precursor method. The impact of the substitution of rare earth ions(Nd and Sm) on magnetic properties of the synthesized samples is observed using a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM). The saturation magnetization values enhance considerably from 52 to 58 emu/g for Nd^(3+)ions and 39 to 57 emu/g for Sm^(3+) ions, thus, making these materials magnetically hard. Further, the higher value of coercivity is also observed ranging from133 to 167 Oe for Nd^(3+)ions and 81 to 155 Oe for Sm^(3+) ions. The shape of hysteresis loops indicates a super paramagnetic and ferromagnetic behavior in the obtained samples. The squareness ratio value is<0.5, suggesting the uniaxial anisotropy of particles and hence, these ferrites are suitable for microwaveabsorbing and in permanent magnetic materials. The X-ray diffraction(XRD) pattern shows the formation of pure cubic crystallites, where, lattice parameters range from 0.840 to 0.839 nm and from 0.838to 0.839 nm for Nd^(3+)and Sm^(3+) ions substitution, respectively. The crystallite size ranges between 28.63to 29.89 nm and 18.33 to 26.23 nm, for substitution of Nd^(3+)and Sm^(3+) ions, respectively. Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) shows the formation of homogeneous grains, whereas, energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS) counts describe the purity of the samples. The Sm concentration x = 0.10has the maximum surface area with value of 42.6 m^(2)/g which proves to be having good data storage application due to high surface area. Dynamic thermal performance of multilayer hollow clay walls filled with insulation materials:Toward energy saving in hot climates

This study examines the benefits of incorporating passive techniques into multilayer hollow clay brick walls to improve their dynamic thermal *** finite element approach was used to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes and energy equations to analyze the dynamic thermal response of walls exposed to real thermal excitations of the Marrakesh *** results show that increasing the emissivity from 0.1 to 0.9 significantly increases the total heat load over 24 ***,filling 100% of the cavities with insulation materials delayed the temperature peak by about 2.3 h and lowered the decrement factor by roughly 43%,with a value smaller than *** addition,it is demonstrated that the total thermal load is reduced by approximately 28% for improved wall configurations(100% insulation filling cavities)compared to traditional wall configurations(100% air filling cavities),which aids in improving building energy efficiency.

This article implements maximum power point tracking(MPPT)based on the improved hill-climbing algorithm for photovoltaic(PV)systems feeding resistive loads.A direct current-to-direct current boost converter is inserted between the PV system and the load to achieve *** converter is managed using MPPT based on the hill-climbing *** objective of this paper is to optimize the code program to achieve the best compromise between accuracy and rapidity by implementing this algorithm using a *** PV systems are tested under identical meteorological *** the first,an improved hill-climbing MPPT controller is used whereas,in the second,the conventional version is *** experimental results obtained show a signifi-cant enhancement in terms of speed for the improved algorithm with a value of 0.4 s for the response time and 3%for the oscillation power;those values remain satisfactory in terms of precision of the algorithm compared with the conventional system studied and the compared algorithm from the literature.

Existing research on fault diagnosis for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells(PEMFC)has advanced significantly,yet performance is hindered by variations in data distributions and the requirement for extensive fault *** this study,a cross-domain adaptive health diagnosis method for PEMFC is proposed,integrating the digital twin model and transfer convolutional diagnosis model.A physical-based high-fidelity digital twin model is developed to obtain diverse and high-quality datasets for training diagnosis *** extract long-term time series features from the data,a temporal convolutional network(TCN)is proposed as a pre-trained diagnosis model for the source domain,with feature extraction layers that can be reused to the transfer learning *** is demonstrated that the proposed pre-trained model can hold the ability to accurately diagnose the various fuel cell faults,including pressure,drying,flow,and flooding faults,with 99.92%accuracy,through the effective capture of the long-term dependencies in time series ***,a domain adaptive transfer convolutional network(DATCN)is established to improve the diagnosis accuracy across diverse fuel cells by learning domain-invariant *** results show that the DATCN model,tested on three different target domain devices with adversarial training using only 10%normal data,can achieve an average accuracy of 98.5%(30%improved over traditional diagnosis models).This proposed method provides an effective solution for accurate cross-domain diagnosis of PEMFC devices,significantly reducing the reliance on extensive fault data.
