Some Studies on the Ecology and Host Range of Eriophyid mites （Acarina： Eriophyoidea） in Sudan

In this study, some Eriophyid mite species showing different morphological characters and host-plant symptoms were obtained. Five mites species collected from different localities in Khartoum State （Sudan） during the period （2002-2003） which classified under family Eriophyidae from different hosts were selected and examined carefully. These were recognized as Cisaberoptus kenyae （K.） on mango mangifera indica, Acalitus hassani （K.） onArrak Salvadora persica, Aceria balanites （massee） on Heglig Balanites aegyptiaca, Colomerus vitis on Grape Vitis sp. （for the first time in the Sudan） and Eriophyes tulipae （K.） on Onion allium cepa and garlic allium sativum respectively. The remaining six eriophyid mites were not completely described but designated as Eriophyes sp. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 on Sidir Ziziphus spina, Aradeib Tamarindus indica, Harazz, Acacia albida, Talha Acacia seyal var. seyal, Seyal Acacia tortilis var. raddiana and mormeet Pergia capensis respectively. The response of 12 different plant species infested artificially with Cisaberoptus kenyae （K.）, Acalitus hassani （K.） and Eriophyes tulipae （K.） were studied after two months of infestation. The results showed that onion and garlic plants were severely infested with Eriophyes tulipae （K.） while tomato was found to be susceptible for Cisaberoptus kenyae （K.） and Acalitus hassani （K.） showing moderate infestations. On the other hand, sorghum and wheat infested with Eriophyes tulipae （K.） showed moderate and light infestations respectively. On the contrary, mite infestations were not detected on the rest of plant species. The degree of infestation of Eriophyid mites species on different test plants, measured by symptoms appeared on plant leaves.

Pulmonary Hypertension Induced by Thalidomide (and Derivatives) in Patients with multiple myeloma: A Systematic Review

Thalidomide is widely used in the treatment of multiple myeloma (mm). In recent years, several cases of pulmonary hypertension have been reported following treatment with thalidomide. The aim of this review was to evaluate the published literature on multiple myeloma patients with pulmonary hypertension following thalidomide treatment. A literature search was performed between 2000 and 2016. A total of 7 eligible studies were identified and deemed eligible, including 11 cases—approximately 37% (4 cases) with IgA (k), 27% (3 cases) with IgG (λ) mm, 27% (3 cases) with IgG (k) mm, and one case (9%) with primary plasma cell leukemia (PPCL). The vast majority of cases—82% (9 cases)—are associated with thalidomide, while only 18% (2 cases) are related to thalidomide derivatives (lenalidomide and pomalidomide). In conclusion, pulmonary hypertension induced by thalidomide or derivatives in multiple myeloma (mm) patients is related to a multifactorial etiology including the pathophysiology of the disease, thromboembolic events, preexisted cardiovascular conditions, comorbidities, and combination with other chemo- or bio-therapeutic agents. mm patients should be evaluated for signs and symptoms underlying cardiopulmonary disease before initiating, and during treatment with thalidomide.

The vast majority of Foxp3^(+)regulatory T cells(Tregs)are generated in the thymus,and several factors,such as cytokines and unique thymic antigen-presenting cells,are known to contribute to the development of these thymus-derived Tregs(tTregs).Here,we report the existence of a specific subset of Foxp3^(+)Tregs within the thymus that is characterized by the expression of IL-1R2,which is a decoy receptor for the inflammatory cytokine *** flow cytometric analysis of the thymocytes from Foxp3^(hCD2)xRAG1^(GFP) reporter mice revealed that the IL-1R2^(+)Tregs are mainly RAG1^(GFP-)and CCR6^(+)CCR7^(-),demonstrating that these Tregs are recirculating cells entering the thymus from the periphery and that they have an activated *** the spleen,the majority of IL-1R2^(+)Tregs express neuropilin-1(Nrp-1)and Helios,suggesting a thymic origin for these ***,among all tissues studied,the highest frequency of IL-1R2^(+)Tregs was observed in the thymus,indicating preferential recruitment of this Treg subset by the *** fetal thymic organ cultures(FTOCs),we demonstrated that increased concentrations of exogenous IL-1β blocked intrathymic Treg development resulting in a decreased frequency of CD25^(+)Foxp3^(+)tTregs and an accumulation of CD25^(+)Foxp3^(-)Treg ***,the addition of IL-1R2^(+)Tregs,but not IL-1R2^(+)Tregs,to reaggregated thymic organ cultures(RTOCs)abrogated the IL-1β-mediated blockade,demonstrating that these recirculating IL-1R2^(+)Tregs can quench IL-1 signaling in the thymus and thereby maintain thymic Treg development even under inflammatory conditions.

The Effect of Using Cokriging against Ordinary Kriging When Estimating Phosphate Deposits at Elsebaiya Area, Egypt

Application of geostatistical techniques when evaluating mineral deposits could reflect some geological characteristics which help through the stage of planning and production. In the present study, an attempt has been done on two phosphate deposits at Elsebaiya area on both sides of the River Nile namely: Um Tondoba mine at Elsebaiya East area and Western River Nile mine in Elsebaiya West area. Depending on the available data, statistical analysis illustrated differences in the distribution of P2O5 % and ore thickness within the studied areas. Geostatistics used to start with constructing variograms for P2O5 % and thickness for the two phosphate deposits to be used with ordinary kriging models, also constructing cross variograms between P2O5 % and thickness to be used with cokriging models where the difference in the variogram parameters reflected a specific variation for each deposit horizontally and vertically. The ordinary kriging models and cokriging models illustrated different distribution behavior through both the two kriging techniques.

Traditional medicinal plants are one of the potential sources of antimicrobial drugs and there is a great concern in the use and development of herbal medicine for the treatment of various infections. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial, and antioxidant activities of Dichrostachys cinera ethanolic leaves extract and to determine the components of the crude extract. D. cinera extract was evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The antibacterial, antioxidant activities and active constituents were determined using standard methods. Antibacterial activity of the crude extract findings showed that all bacterial candidates were susceptible where S. aureus represent mIC at 12.5 mg/ml and mBC at 25 mg/ml, E. coli and P. aeruginosa both showed mIC 25 mg/ml and mBC 50 mg/ml. In the free radical scavenging assay of the extract and the standard quercetin at concentrations of 250 μg/ml, 125 μg/ml, 50 μg/ml, 10 μg/ml, and 5 μg/ml. The radical scavenging activity for the extract was about 92%, 89.6%, 86.8%, 82.8% and 37.8% respectively, compared to quercetin which gave 89.7%, 85.8%, 62.1%, 55.5%, and 45% radical scavenging activity. The GC-ms analysis of the total constituents demonstrated that 1,6-Anhydro-2,4-dideoxy-.beta.-D-ribo-hexo (21.26%) with different peaks, followed by Glycerin (11.56%), 1,2,3-Cyclopentanetriol (10.18%), 8,11,14-Eicosatrienoic acid, (Z,Z,Z)-(6.18%), 1H-Pyrrole, 1-methyl-(6.08%), Phytol (5.91%) and 7-Bromo-6-(2-diethylaminoethoxy)-2,3-dihyd (5.44%) as major components in the extract. Finally, this study provided useful information on the therapeutic potential of D. cinera as an antibacterial agent and recommended to be evaluated against a wide range of Bacterial and fungal strains using different solvents and different parts from the plant.

Assessment of the Sensitivity of Streamflow Simulations to Changes in Patch Resolution Using GIS Based Hydro-Ecologic model

Eight different patch configurations were investigated to analyze the effect of patch characterization/formation in streamflow simulation, using the Regional Hydro-Ecologic Simulation Systems (RHESSys) model. It is investigated for eight different patch configurations of a subcatchment of the Turkey Lakes Watershed, Ontario. The model’s hydrological parameters are calibrated for each of these patch configurations and the performance of the simulations is evaluated. Results indicate that both the nature of the flow simulation and the calibrated parameter values are sensitive to patch configuration. The best simulation results were obtained for the patch configuration with the highest spatial variation of climate, stream network and hillslope conditions across the subcatchment. Different patch configurations also lead to markedly different calibrations of the model’s hydrological parameters (54.26 m mplications for the physical interpretation and transferability of the calibrated parameter values.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed worldwide, synchronous bilateral breast cancer accounts for unique entity of the disease, particularly post-operative radiotherapy for Synchronous Bilateral Breast Cancer (SBBC) is challenging with lack of evidence about the best irradiation technique. In this study, we tried to explore the optimum radiotherapy technique regarding the dosimetric parameters. Methods: We recruited 15 SBBC patients in whom post-operative radiotherapy was indicated and we established three plans for each patient using 3DCRT, IMRT and VMAT, and then we compared the three plans as regard target volume coverage parameters and organs at risk (OAR) doses. Results: We found that PTV coverage parameter was superior with IMRT compared with 3DCRT and VMAT in terms of Dmean (p = 0.001), D95% (p = 0.001), Dmax (p = 0.0001), conformity index (p = 0.0001) and HI (p = 0.0001). Extrinsic Risk Factors for Women Breast Cancer in Gaza Strip, Palestine: Associations and Interactions in a Case-Control Study

Background: Worldwide, breast cancer (BC) is the most frequently diagnosed neoplastic disease in women around menopause that is the leading cause of DalYs, because it causes a significant reduction of these women’s ability to function normally in everyday life. methods: The present hospital-based case-control study was carried out between January and August 2018 using a structured questionnaire on 105 breast cancer women and 210 controls who are clinically free from breast cancer. Data about the study cases were collected in the oncology day-care clinics of the two main hospitals in Gaza strip “al-Shifa and European Gaza hospitals”. Univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to identify the significant factors associated with BC. Results: multivariate logistic regression analyses with adjustment for all confounders revealed that woman with BmI more than or equal 30 kg/m2 are under risk of getting BC 2.9 times greater than those having BmI less than 29 kg/m2 (AOR = 2.895;95% CI: 1.305 - 6.423). Analysis of risk according to reaching menopause showed that the estimated AOR was greater among those reached menopause (3.137, 95% CI 1.824 - 5.395) than among those that did not reach menopause. The risk of developing BC in the case of a history of incidence of BC in the family was more than two times higher (AOR = 2.632, 95% CI 1.528 - 4.535) than in case of the history of a free family of BC. Conclusion: In this context, the above-mentioned risk factors must be taken into consideration in BC management processes in the Gaza strip.
