Rapid population growth in the upper Blue Nile basin has led to fast land-use changes from natural forest to agricultural *** resulted in speeding up the soil erosion process in the highlands and increasing sedimentation further downstream in reservoirs and irrigation *** present,several dams are planned across the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is currently under construction near the border with *** will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in *** objective of this paper is to quantify the river flows and sediment loads along the Blue Nile River *** Soil and Water Assessment Tool was used to estimate the water flows from un-gauged *** assess model performance,the estimated sediment loads were compared to the measured ones at selected *** the gauged sub-basins,water flows and sediment loads were derived from the available flow and sediment *** fill in knowledge gaps,this study included a field survey in which new data on suspended solids and flow discharge were collected along the Blue Nile and on a number of *** comparison between the results of this study and previous estimates of the sediment load of the Blue Nile River at El Deim,near the Ethiopian Sudanese border,show that the sediment budgets have the right order of magnitude,although some uncertainties *** gives confidence in the results of this study providing the first sediment balance of the entire Blue Nile catchment at the sub-basin scale.

Spinel ferrites exhibit exceptional magnetic properties,making them a distinctive class of magnetic *** sol-gel technique was utilized for the synthesis of spinel ferrites with the chemical formula Co_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)Ce_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4). Adaptive Tracking Filter for Stabilizing a Flexible Launch Vehicle

The flight control system designer is increasingly concerned with the problem of providing adequate stability of the elastic modes of the flight vehicle. The problem of stabilizing bending modes can be solved by the use of different bending filters. But continuously changing behavior of the elastic modes frequencies makes it impossible to suppress the elastic modes. In this paper, adaptive tracking filter is used to solve this problem. Where it can track the frequency of predominant oscillatory component of its input signal and automatically adjust the shaping characteristics as a function of this frequency. Simulation results are presented to show the frequency tracking accuracy and response of the flight launch vehicle, which are based on the assumption that, only first bending mode is selected at a time. Comparison with the second order band pass filter is carried out in order to emphasis the effectiveness of this design methodology.

Promoting Alternative Energy Programs in Developed Countries: A Review

This paper presents a review of the promoting programs of solar and wind energies in different countries including Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, USA, Australia, China and India with an emphasis on Germany as a notable example. The success of each program is discussed in detail. The results of the investigation conducted in the paper have shown that some renewable energy laws have proven to be extremely successful. Among such laws, is the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) in Germany, which guaranteed 20 years of stable prices for green power and has already brought many homeowners and businesses to install photovoltaic modules and to feed their electricity into the national grid. By the year 2010, the clean production of electricity by renewable energies in Germany has risen to around 202,000 GWh. In addition, about 70 million tons of CO2 emissions in 2009 were avoided through the use of renewable energies in electricity generation in Germany.

Maternal TMPRSS6 Gene Polymorphism rs855791SNP in Women with Preeclampsia

Introduction: Preeclampsia can lead to several maternal and perinatal adverse effects. There are few published data on the association between transmembrane serine protease 6 (TMPRSS6) gene polymorphism and preeclampsia. Objective: To assess the association between TMPRSS6 gene polymorphism rs855791SNP in women with preeclampsia compared with healthy pregnant women. Method: A case-control study (60 women in each arm) was conducted at Saad Abuaela Maternity Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan. Sociodemographic and clinical data were gathered through a questionnaire. The participant was genotype for TMPRSS6 gene rs855791SNP using Polymerase Chain Reaction and Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The results were confirmed by DNA sequencing. Result: There was no significant difference in the median of age, parity, and body mass index. The distribution of the genotypes and alleles of TMPRSS6 rs855791 was consistent with the HWE. The overall TMPRSS6 rs855791 polymorphism was not significantly associated with preeclampsia. However, the proportion of heterozygotes (TC) was considerably higher in the women with preeclampsia (46.7%) than in the control group (23.3%) (p = 0.001;OR = 2.71;95% CI = 1.21 - 6.07). The proportion of homozygotes (TT) and T alleles was not significantly different between women with preeclampsia and the control group. Conclusion: The overall TMPRSS6 rs855791 polymorphism was not significantly associated with preeclampsia and healthy control.
