The ability to recognize and differentiate between conspecifics and heterospecifics as well as their signals is critical for the coexistence of closely related *** the genus Rattus,species are morphologically similar and multiple species often ***,we investigated the interspecific recognition and signal differentiation of two sympatric rat species,the brown rat(Rattus norvegicus,RN)and the Asian house rat(Rattus tanezumi,RT).In a two-way choice test,both RN and RT females showed a preference for conspecific male rats to heterospecific *** females showed a significant preference for accessible urine of males of same species to those of other species,but not for the inaccessi-ble *** the other hand,there were significant differences in the structural characteristics of the ultrasonic vocalization emitted by males of these two rat *** dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE)and isoelectric focusing electrophoresis unveiled that major urinary proteins(MUPs)in voided urine were more highly expressed in RN males versus RT *** interspecific dif-ferences of urinary volatile compounds were also *** conclusion,female rats had the ability to distinguish between males of either species.

Two parapatric Rattus norvegicus subspecies,***(RNH)and ***(RNC),are classified accordi ng to morphological diverge nee and are mainly distributed in North and Northeast ***,we aimed to explore the population genetic structure,genetic boundary,and gene flow in these rats using 16 microsatellite *** analysis and principal component an alysis revealed 3 ancestral *** found that the in termediate cluster exhibited higher genetic diversity and a lower in breeding coefficie nt tha n the other 2 *** genetic differentiation between the 3 clusters was significant but weak,with a higher FST value being observed betwee n the clusters on both *** subspecies bou ndary inf erred from microsatellite markers may indicate the existence of an admixture or hybridization area covering Liaoning,Inner Mongolia,and Jilin Provinces,rather than corresponding to the administrative provincial boundaries between Liaoning and *** RNH and RNC subspecies presented moderate gene exchange and an asymmetric bidirectional gene flow pattern,with higher gene flow from the RNH subspecies to the RNC subspecies,constraining *** genetic characteristics might be explained by biological processes such as dispersal ability,mate choice,and dynamic lineage boundaries.

Dominance relationships between males and their associated traits are usually heritable and have implications for sexual selection in *** particular,social dominance and its related male pheromones are heritable in inbred mice;thus,we wondered whether epigenetic changes due to altered levels of DNA methylation determine ***,we used C57BL/6 male mice to establish a social dominance-subordination relationship through chronic dyadic encounters,and this relationship and pheromone covariation occurred in their offspring,indicative of *** transcriptome sequencing and whole-genome DNA methylation profiling of the sperm of both generations,we found that differential methylation of many genes was induced by social dominance-subordination in sires and could be passed on to the *** methylated genes were mainly related to growth and development processes,neurodevelopment,and cellular *** expression of the genes with similar functions in whole-genome methylation/bisulfite sequencing was also differentiated by social dominance-subordination,as revealed by *** particular,the gene Dennd1a,which regulates neural signaling,was differentially methylated and expressed in the sperm and medial prefrontal cortex in paired males before and after dominance-subordination establishment,suggesting the potential epigenetic control and inheritance of social dominance-related *** suggest that social dominance might be passed on to male offspring through sperm DNA methylation and that the differences could potentially affect male competition in offspring by affecting the development of thenervous system.

Male animals with more conspicuous visual and acoustic signals increase their mating success, but also increase the risk of being attacked by eavesdropping predators. In rodents, males with richer sex pheromones often have higher attractiveness to females, but whether or not the males are also at higher predation risk is poorly known. Here, we used 2 laboratory inbred strains of the rat Rattus norvegicus, Brown Norway （BN） and Lewis （LEW）, and wild-captured rats as odor donors to assess the relationship between the pheromone levels in male rats and attractiveness to domes- tic cats Felis catus. LEW rats had significantly higher levels of male pheromones （e.g., 4-heptanone, 2-heptanone, and 9-hydroxy-2-nonanone） than BN rats. Simultaneously, wild-captured male rats were selectively assigned to 2 groups （HIGH or LOW） based on pheromone content as determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS）. Binary choice tests were carried out during the night in the test room. We found that cats spent more time investigating male bedding and urine of LEW rats than the counterpart of BN rats. Likewise, cats also preferred bedding and urine odor of the HIGH wild rats compared with the counterparts of LOW wild rats. Adding synthetic ana- logs of the 3 pheromone ketones into the urine of either BN rats or LOW wild rats significantly increased their attractiveness to cats. Our data suggest that the rats with exaggerated male phero- mones more strongly attracted predators and thus as a consequence may suffer from elevated pre- dation risk.

Pheromonal communication plays a key role in the sociosexual behavior of *** coadaptation between pheromones and chemosensory systems has been well illustrated in insects but poorly investigated in rodents and other *** aimed to investigate whether coadaptation between male pheromones and female reception might have occurred in brown rats Rattus *** recently reported that major urinary protein(MUP)pheromones are associated with male mating success in a brown rat subspecies,***(Rnh).Here,we discovered that MUPs were less polymorphic and occurred at much lower concentrations in males of a parapatric subspecies,***(Rnc),than in Rnh males,and found no association between pheromones and paternity ***,the observation of Rnc males that experienced chronic dyadic encounters and established dominance-submission relationships revealed that the dominant males achieved greater mating success than the subordinate males,but their MUP levels did not differ by social *** findings suggest that male mating success in Rnc rats is related to social rank rather than to pheromone levels and that low concentration of MUPs might not be a reliable signal for mate choice in Rnc rats,which is different from the findings obtained in Rnh *** addition,compared with Rnh females,Rnc females exhibited reduced expression of pheromone receptor genes,and a lower number of vomeronasal receptor neurons were activated by MUP pheromones,which imply that the female chemosensory reception of pheromones might be structurally and functionally coadapted with male pheromone signals in brown rats.

Laser surface remelting of medium Ni-Cr infinite chilling cast iron was performed with a continuous wave COa laser beam with the power of 7 KW under the argon shielding. The microstructural analysis of the laser remelted layer by optical microscope shows that the laser remelted layer consists of three zones, which is the melting zone, the transition zone and the heat affected zone. The size of the dendrite of the melting zone is only in the 1/10 to 1/30 range of that of the substrate. The distribution of the hardness of the laser remelted layer was detected, and the carrying capacity of rolling steel was also field-tested. The results show that both the hardness of the remelted layer and the carrying capacity all increase, especially, the carrying capacity was 50% increased compared with the substrate.

ZnS and ZnS:3.125%Ce^(3+)(ZSC)quantum dots(QDs)were synthesized by a low-temperature solid-phase *** crystal structure,photoluminescence(PL)properties of ZSC QDs,and their effects on the growth and kojic acid production of Aspergillus oryzae(***)were *** is found that both QDs have a cubic blend structure with the average particle size ranging of 2.75-6.14 ***^(3+)doping not only increases the band gap of ZnS QDs from 3.43 to 3.48 eV,but also increases the PL intensity by about 2.23 times,which is due to the fact that the electron carrier concentration is improved,and then the rate of radiative recombination is *** integral emission intensity,biomass,extracellular proteins yield,and kojic acid production of *** cultured with ZSC(ZnS)QDs are about 4.31(3.23),1.61(1.20),1.12(1.09),and 2.99(1.68)times higher than that of medium without QDs,respectively.

In this study,a novel iron-based catalyst system,Fe(acac)3/(isocyanoimino)triptenylphosphorane(IITP)/AlR3,was employed for the synthesis of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene in *** catalyst system exhibits remarkably high catalytic activity,achieving a polymerization activity of 762 kgpolymer·molcatalyst^(-1)·h^(-1)at 50℃with a[BD]/[Fe]molar ratio of ***,living polymerization characteristic were observed during the investigation of the polymerization kinetics of 1,3-butadiene *** characteristics were well demonstrated by a narrow molecular weight distribution(PDI≈2.0)of the resulting polybutadiene and a linear relationship between-ln(1-c)and polymerization time as well as number average molecular weight and polymer *** resultant polymer showed a 1,2-selectivity of approximately 76%and stereoregularity ranging from 62%to 73%(rrrr).Additionally,through kinetic studies on polymerization reaction,an apparent activation energy Ea value of this catalytic system was calculated to be 84.98 kJ·mol^(-1),which suggests that high polymerization temperature favors efficient polymerization.
