AIM: By using comparative genomic hybridization, gain of 3q was found in 45-86% cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (EC-SCC). Chromosome 3q25.3-qter is the minimal common region with several oncogenes found within this region. However, amplification patterns of these genes in EC-SCC have never been reported. The possible association of copy number changes of these genes with pathologic characteristics is still not clear. METHODS: Real-time quantitative PCR (Q-PCR) was performed to analyze the copy number changes of 13 candidate genes within this region in 60 primary tumors of EC-SCC, and possible association of copy number changes with pathologic characteristics was analyzed by statistics. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) study was also performed on another set of 111 primary tumors of EC-SCC to verify the association between TP63 expression change and lymph node metastasis status. RESULTS: The average copy numbers (±SE) per haploid genome of individual genes in 60 samples were (from centromere to telomere): SSR3: 4.19 (±0.69); CCNL1: 5.24 (±0.67); SMC4L1: 2.01 (±0.16); EVI1: 2.02 (±0.12); hTERC. 5.28 (±0.54); SKIL 2.71 (±0.14); EIF5A2. 1.95 (±0.12); ECT2: 9.18 (±1.68); PIK3CA: 8.13 (±1.17); EIF4G1: 1.07 (±0.05); 557: 3.07 (±0.25); TP63: 2.51 (±0.22); TFRC. 2.42 (±0.19). Four clusters of amplification were found: SSR3 and CCLN1 at 3q25.31; hTERC and SKIL at 3q26.2; ECT2 and PIK3CA at 3q26.31-q26.32; and 55T, TP63 and TFRC at 3q27.3-q29. Patients with lymph node metastasis had significantly lower copy number of TP63 in the primary tumor than those without lymph node metastasis. IHC study on tissue arrays also showed that patients with lymph node metastasis have significantly lower TP63 staining score in the primary tumor than those without lymph node metastasis. Locally Advanced Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma with Long-Term Survival of More Than 7 Years after Combined Surgery Including Tracheal Resection and Radiotherapy: Case Report

Background: Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is one of the most aggressive human malignancies with a mean survival time of 6 months regardless of treatment. Aim: To present a case of locally advanced anaplastic thyroid carcinoma with long-term survival. A 10-year literature review of locally advanced ATC with long-term survival (more than 2 years) is also presented. Case presentation: We present a case of locally advanced anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) with tracheal invasion in a 67-year-old elderly Chinese man who was treated with radical surgery encompassing total thyroidectomy, neck dissection and tracheal resection followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. Long-term disease-free survival is more than 7 years to date. Conclusion: The prognosis of ATC remains poor as it is characterized by aggressive and extensive disease at presentation, the inability in most patients to perform radical enough surgery in order to achieve clear margins, high morbidity of complete extirpation and limited response to radiotherapy or chemotherapy. However, if complete surgical resection is possible, patients should be treated aggressively with a combination of surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy.

Resources can affect plant productivity and biodiversity simultaneously and thus are key drivers of their relationships in addition to plant-plant ***,most previous studies only focused on a single resource while negle cting the nature of resource *** we integrated four essential resources for plant growth into a single metric of resource diversity(RD) to investigate its effects on the productivity-biodiversity relationship(PBR) across Chinese *** showed that habitats differing in RD have different PBRs—positive in low-resource habitats,but neutral in medium-and high-resource ones—while collectively,a weak positive PBR was observe ***,when excluding direct effects of RD on productivity and biodiversity,the PBR in high-resource habitats became negative,which leads to a unimodal instead of a positive PBR along the RD *** integrating resource effects and changing plant-plant interactions into a unified framework with the RD gradient,our work contributes to uncovering underlying me chanisms for inconsistent PBRs at large scales.

地震地表破裂是地壳弹性应变转化为永久性构造变形的表现形式.2001年昆仑山地震在东昆仑断裂带库赛湖段产生的地表破裂带整体长426km,由西部剪切走滑破裂段、中部张剪切破裂段和东部剪切走滑破裂段等3个相对独立的地表破裂段组成,即昆仑山地震由震级为Mw=6.8,Mw=6.2和Mw≤7.8的3次地震破裂事件组成,其中东段Mw≤7.8级地震为昆仑山地震主震,由4次更次级地震事件组成.野外测量表明,不同段落上单条地表破裂宽度一般介于数米至15m,最大不超过30m;组合地表破裂带的宽度主要取决于几何结构,特别是次级地表破裂带斜列区的宽度,具有变形局部化的基本特征.结合东昆仑断裂带第四纪地质速率与GPS监测应变速率一致性,2001年昆仑山地震地表破裂局部化特征说明,青藏高原北部巴颜喀拉与祁连-柴达木两大块体间的构造变形主要表现为东昆仑断裂带宽度有限的剪切走滑错动,东昆仑山断裂带南北两侧块体具有整体运动特征.地震破裂局部化特征对确定重大工程、居民住宅和生命线工程等免遭走滑断层同震地表错动引起直接破坏的避让带宽度具有十分重要现实意义.

＜正＞ Paeoniflorin （PF）,a principal component from paeony roots, has been used as an antispasmodic and analgesic agent. From our previous study, we found that paeoniflorin showed antinociceptive effect on both the writhing response test and formalin test performed in mice. In the present study, the effect of paeoniflorin on monoamine neurotransmitters and their metabolites was investigated by using HPLC-microdialysis in mice and rats. PF increased norepinephrine （NE） and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid （DOPAC） content in cortex, and increased the content of NE and decreased serotonin （5-HT） content in medulla of the homogenized brain tissue. By microdialysis. paeoniflorin increased DOPAC and 5 -hydroxyindoleacetic acid （5 - HIAA） content and increased homovanillic acid （HVA）,DOPAC and 5 - HIAA content in anesthetic rat cortex and striatum,*** turns out that PF could activate the release of monoamines and increase their metabolites in mice and rat brain, which might account for its antinociceptive effects.
