Understanding livelihood vulnerability:a perspective from Western Sichuan’s ethnic rural settings

To explore the livelihood status and key influencing factors of rural households in the minority areas,we collected flat data from 284 rural households in 32 villages across 12 counties of Western Sichuan from 2021 to 2022.We conducted participatory household survey on the livelihood status of the rural households and try to identify the key factors to influence their livelihood vulnerability using multiple linear regression.The results showed that:the livelihood situation of the rural households is relatively vulnerable.The vulnerability varies significantly with the income levels,education levels,and income sources.The vulnerability of farm households,categorized from low to high livelihood types,follows the sequence:non-agricultural dominant households,non-agricultural households,agricultural dominant households,and pure agricultural households.The degree of damage to the natural environment,education costs,loan opportunities,the proportion of agricultural income to annual household income,and the presence of sick people in the household have significant positive effects on the livelihood vulnerability index(LVI)of rural households;while help from relatives and friends,net income per capita,household size,household education,agricultural land area,participation in industrial organizations,number of livestock,purchase of commercial houses,drinking water source,and self-supply of food have significant negative effects.Based on the findings,we believe that local rural households operate in a complex livelihood system and recommend continuous interventions targeting key influences to provide empirical research support for areas facing similar situations.

Challenges and prospects for room temperature solid-state sodiumsulfur batteries

Room temperature sodium-sulfur(Na-S)batteries,known for their high energy density and low cost,are one of the most promising next-generation energy storage systems.However,the polysulfide shuttling and uncontrollable Na dendrite growth as well as safety issues caused by the use of organic liquid electrolytes in Na-S cells,have severely hindered their commercialization.Solid-state electrolytes instead of liquid electrolytes are considered to be the most direct and effective solution to solve the above problems.However,its practical application is still greatly challenged due to the poor interfacial compatibility between the all-solid-state electrolytes and the anode/cathode,ionic conductivity,and the shuttle effect caused by the presence of liquid phase in the quasi-solid-state electrolytes.This paper presents a comprehensive review of solid-state Na-S batteries from the perspective of regulating interfacial compatibility and improving ionic conductivity as well as suppressing polysulfide shuttle.According to different components,solid-state electrolytes were divided into five categories:solid inorganic electrolytes,solid polymer electrolytes,polymer/inorganic solid hybrid electrolytes,gel polymer electrolytes,and liquid–solid inorganic hybrid electrolytes.Finally,the prospect of developing high performance solid-state electrolytes to improve the cycling stability of room temperature Na-S cells is envisaged.

High-performance Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)achieved by polyaniline intercalation and gelatinization as a high-energy cathode for zinc-ion capacitor

The actual manufacture of supercapacitors(SCs)is restricted by the inadequate energy density,and the energy density of devices can be properly promoted by assembling zinc-ion capacitors(ZICs)which used capacitive cathode and battery-type anode.Two-dimensional(2D)MXene has brought great focuses in the electrode research on the foundation of large redox-active surface,but the specific capacitance is still affected by the tight stacking of interlaminations.Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@polyaniline(PANI)heterostructures are prepared by uniformly depositing the conductive polymer PANI nanorods as the intercalation agent into the external of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)nanosheets to inhibit stacking.Subsequently,by using graphene oxide(GO)-assisted low-temperature hydrothermal self-assembly manufacture,2D heterostructures are assembled into the three-dimensional(3D)porous crosslinked Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@PANI-reduced graphene oxide(RGO)hydrogels.Attributed to the synergistic work of PANI nanorods,Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(X)nanosheets,and 3D crosslinking frameworks of RGO to match capacitive and battery effects,3D porous hierarchical Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@PANI-RGO heterostructure hydrogels have rich ion transport channels,a large number of active sites,and excellent reaction kinetics.ZIC is assembled by using Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@PANI-RGO heterostructure hydrogels as cathodes and zinc foil as anodes.In this work,Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@PANI-RGO//Zn ZIC exhibits a wide working window(2.0 V),marked specific capacitance(589.89 F·g^(−1)at 0.5 A·g−1),salient energy density(327.71 Wh·kg^(−1)at 513.61 W·kg^(−1)and 192.20 Wh·kg^(−1)at 13,005.87 W·kg^(−1)),and durable cycling stability(97.87%capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles at 10 A·g^(−1)).This study emphasizes the device design of ZICs and the broad prospect of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)-based hydrogels as viable cathodes for ZICs.

Model-driven path planning for robotic plasma cutting of branch pipe with single Y-groove based on pipe-rotating scheme

The automatic cutting of intersecting pipes is a challenging task in manufacturing.For improved automation and accuracy,this paper proposes a model-driven path planning approach for the robotic plasma cutting of a branch pipe with a single Y-groove.Firstly,it summarizes the intersection forms and introduces a dual-pipe intersection model.Based on this model,the moving three-plane structure(a description unit of the geometric characteristics of the intersecting curve)is constructed,and a geometric model of the branch pipe with a single Y-groove is defined.Secondly,a novel mathematical model for plasma radius and taper compensation is established.Then,the compensation model and groove model are integrated by establishing movable frames.Thirdly,to prevent collisions between the plasma torch and workpiece,the torch height is planned and a branch pipe-rotating scheme is proposed.Through the established models and moving frames,the planned path description of cutting robot is provided in this novel scheme.The accuracy of the proposed method is verified by simulations and robotic cutting experiments.

Iodine enrichment in the groundwater in South China and its hydrogeochemical control

In North China,iodine-rich groundwater has been extensively studied,but few in South China.This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of iodine-rich groundwater in South China and identify potential contamination sources.The results revealed that the average concentration of iodine in groundwater was 890μg/L,with a maximumconcentration of 6350μg/L,exceeding the permitted levels recommended by the World Health Organization(5–300μg/L).Notably,the enrichment of iodide occurred in acidic conditions(pH=6.6)and a relatively low Eh environment(Eh=198.4 mV).Pearson correlation and cluster analyses suggested that the enrichment of iodide could be attributed to the intensified redox process involving Mn(II),iodine(I_(2)),or iodate(IO_(3)^(−))in the soil.The strong affinity between Mn(II)and I_(2)/IO_(3)^(−)facilitated their interaction,resulting in the formation and mobilization of I^(−)from the soil to the groundwater.Leaching experiments further confirmed that reducing substances(such as sodium sulfides,ascorbic acids,and fulvic acids)in the soil with low dissolved oxygen(DO)levels(3.8 mg/L)promoted the oxidation of I^(−)into I_(2)or IO_(3)^(−),leading to its stabilization.This research provides new insights into the characteristics and mechanisms of I^(−)enrichment in groundwater in South China,and emphasizes the significance of the redox reactions involving Mn(II)and I_(2)/IO_(3)^(−),as well as the influence of soil properties in regulating the occurrence and transportation of iodine species within groundwater systems.

Tunable VO_(2) cavity enables multispectral manipulation from visible to microwave frequencies

Optical materials capable of dynamically manipulating electromagnetic waves are an emerging field in memories,optical modulators,and thermal management.Recently,their multispectral design preliminarily attracts much attention,aiming to enhance their efficiency and integration of functionalities.However,the multispectral manipulation based on these materials is challenging due to their ubiquitous wavelength dependence restricting their capacity to narrow wavelengths.In this article,we cascade multiple tunable optical cavities with selective-transparent layers,enabling a universal approach to overcoming wavelength dependence and establishing a multispectral platform with highly integrated functions.Based on it,we demonstrate the multispectral(ranging from 400 nm to 3 cm),fast response speed(0.9 s),and reversible manipulation based on a typical phase change material,vanadium dioxide.Our platform involves tandem VO_(2)-based Fabry–Pérot(F-P)cavities enabling the customization of optical responses at target bands independently.It can achieve broadband color-changing capacity in the visible region(a shift of~60 nm in resonant wavelength)and is capable of freely switching between three typical optical models(transmittance,reflectance,and absorptance)in the infrared to microwave regions with drastic amplitude tunability exceeding 0.7.This work represents a state-of-art advance in multispectral optics and material science,providing a critical approach for expanding the multispectral manipulation ability of optical systems.

Hydrogen production from hydrolysis of NaBH4 solution over Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF thin film catalyst

In this study,the double loaded Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF（NF:Ni foam） thin film catalysts were prepared for the first time via chemical deposition method at room temperature.By optimizing the reducing agent concentration to 0.9 mol·L-1,the as-obtained Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF exhibited the twisted ribbon structure with more distinct three-dimensional hierarchy and the smaller particle size,showing the good catalytic property for the hydrolysis of NaBH4solution.The H2generation rate of Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF and binary Co-B@g-C3N4/NF under visible light irradiation surpassed the value under natural condition.The apparent activation energy of Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF(45.0 kJ·mol-1) under visible light irradiation was obviously reduced when compared with the natural condition(48.4 kJ·mol-1) and binary Co-B@g-C3N4/NF(60.6 kJ·mol-1) under visible light irradiation.Furthermore,the catalytic performance of the optimized Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF thin film catalyst was superior to most of the reported non-noble metal and even noble metal catalysts.Hence,it illustrated that the catalytic H2production performance of Co-Fe-B@g-C3N4/NF thin film was distinctly improved after the introduction of light and multicomponent recombination.

Design of Robust Var Reserve Contract for Enhancing Reactive Power Ancillary Service Market Efficiency

In a deregulated Var market, market power issue is more serious than in an energy market since reactive power cannot be transmitted over long distances. This letter designs a multi-timescale Var market framework, where market power that may arise in the hourly-ahead Var support service market due to system configuration deficiency and market structure flaws can be eliminated by day-ahead contract-based Var reserve service market. Settlement of day-ahead Var reserve contract is formulated as a two-stage robust optimization (TSRO) model considering worst case of uncertainty realization and potential market power that may arise in hourly-ahead market. TSRO with integer recourses is then solved by a new column and constraint generation algorithm. Results show a robust Var reserve contract can fully eliminate market power, and prevent suppliers from manipulating market prices.

A low-power Bluetooth-based wireless sensor network and its global confliction-solving impact localization method

During the whole service lifetime of aircraft structures with composite materials,impacts are inevitable and can usually cause severe but barely visible damages.Since the occurrences of impact are random and unpredictable,it is a hotspot direction to develop an online impact monitoring system that can meet strict limitations of aerospace applications including small size,light weight,and low power consumption.Piezoelectric(PZT)sensor,being able to generate impact response signals with no external power and cover a large-scale structure with only a small amount of them,is a promising choice.Meanwhile,for real systems,networks with multiple nodes are normally required to monitor large-scale structures in a global way to identify any impact localization confliction,yet the existing studies are mostly evaluated with single nodes instead of networks.Therefore,in this paper,based on a new low-power node designed,a Bluetooth-based digital impact monitoring PZT sensor network is proposed for the first time with its global confliction-solving impact localization method.Evaluations of the system as a network are researched and analyzed on a complex real aircraft wing box for a global confliction-solving impact localization,showing a satisfying high accuracy.

Distributed Source-Load-Storage Cooperative Low-Carbon Scheduling Strategy Considering Vehicle-to-Grid Aggregators

The vehicle-to-grid(V2G)technology enables the bidirectional power flow between electric vehicle(EV)batteries and the power grid,making EV-based mobile energy storage an appealing supplement to stationary energy storage systems.However,the stochastic and volatile charging behaviors pose a challenge for EV fleets to engage directly in multi-agent cooperation.To unlock the scheduling potential of EVs,this paper proposes a source-load-storage cooperative low-carbon scheduling strategy considering V2G aggregators.The uncertainty of EV charging patterns is managed through a rolling-horizon control framework,where the scheduling and control horizons are adaptively adjusted according to the availability periods of EVs.Moreover,a Minkowski-sum based aggregation method is employed to evaluate the scheduling potential of aggregated EV fleets within a given scheduling horizon.This method effectively reduces the variable dimension while preserving the charging and discharging constraints of individual EVs.Subsequently,a Nash bargaining based cooperative scheduling model involving a distribution system operator(DSO),an EV aggregator(EVA),and a load aggregator(LA)is established to maximize the social welfare and improve the low-carbon performance of the system.This model is solved by the alternating direction method of multipliers(ADMM)algorithm in a distributed manner,with privacy of participants fully preserved.The proposed strategy is proven to achieve the objective of low-carbon economic operation.
