Approach of technical decision-making by element flow analysis and Monte-Carlo simulation of municipal solid waste stream

This paper deals with the procedure and methodology which can be used to select the optimal treatment and disposal technology of municipal solid waste （MSW）, and to provide practical and effective technical support to policy-making, on the basis of study on solid waste management status and development trend in China and abroad. Focusing on various treatment and disposal technologies and processes of MSW, this study established a Monte-Carlo mathematical model of cost minimization for MSW handling subjected to environmental constraints. A new method of element stream （such as C, H, O, N, S） analysis in combination with economic stream analysis of MSW was developed. By following the streams of different treatment processes consisting of various techniques from generation, separation, transfer, transport, treatment, recycling and disposal of the wastes, the element constitution as well as its economic distribution in terms of possibility functions was identified. Every technique step was evaluated economically. The Mont-Carlo method was then conducted for model calibration. Sensitivity analysis was also carried out to identify the most sensitive factors. Model calibration indicated that landfill with power generation of landfill gas was economically the optimal technology at the present stage under the condition of more than 58% of C, H, O, N, S going to landfill. Whether or not to generate electricity was the most sensitive factor. If landfilling cost increases, MSW separation treatment was recommended by screening first followed with incinerating partially and composting partially with residue landfilling. The possibility of incineration model selection as the optimal technology was affected by the city scale. For big cities and metropolitans with large MSW generation, possibility for constructing large-scale incineration facilities increases, whereas, for middle and small cities, the effectiveness of incinerating waste decreases.

A tunable metamaterial absorber(MA)with dual-broadband and high absorption properties at terahertz(THz)frequencies is designed in this *** MA consists of a periodic array of flower-like monolayer graphene patterns at top,a SiO_(2)dielectric spacer in middle,and a gold ground plane at the *** simulation results demonstrate that the designed MA has two wide absorption bands with an absorption of over 90%in frequency ranges of 0.68 THz-1.63 THz and 3.34 THz-4.08 THz,and the corresponding relative bandwidths reach 82.3%and 20%,*** peak absorptivity of the absorber can be dynamically controlled from less than 10%to nearly 100%by adjusting the graphene chemical potential from 0 eV to 0.9 ***,the designed absorber is polarization-insensitive and has good robustness to incident *** a high-performance MA has broad application prospects in THz imaging,modulating,filtering,etc.

Electrical and optical properties of ZnO:Al films with different hydrogen contents in sputtering gas

Aluminum-doped zinc oxide （ZnO：AI） films were deposited by direct current magnetron sputtering in incorporating hydrogen in sputtering gas at room temper- ature. The influences of hydrogen content in sputtering gas on the structural, optical, and electrical properties of ZnO：A1 films were systematically investigated. It is found that hydrogen incorporated into ZnO lattice forms shallow donors in ZnO：A1 films and plays an important role in the properties of ZnO：A1 films. The electrical conductivity and infrared （IR） reflectance are improved due to the increase of electron carrier concentration, and the average trans- mittance decreases, which is ascribed to the strong scat- tering from the hydrogen incorporated and oxygen vacancies in ZnO：A1 films. In this study, the resistivity of 5.5 × 10-4 Ω.cm is obtained, the average transmittance of the wavelength in the range of 400-900 nm is almost 86 %, and the IR reflectance reaches 75 % at 2,500 nm, which is higher than that of reported TCO films. The band gap determined by optical absorption is a result of com- petition between Burstein-Moss effect and many-body perturbation effect. However, the hydrogen content in sputtering gas is above 10 %, and the optical band gap shift is independent of hydrogen content in sputtering gas.

Protein conformation and electric attraction adsorption mechanisms on anodized magnesium alloy by molecular dynamics simulations

Protein adsorption preferentially occurs and significantly affects the physicochemical reactions once the biodegradable magnesium alloys as bone replacements have been implanted. To date, interactions mechanisms between Mg implants and proteins remain unclear at a molecular level. Thereby, a combination of molecular dynamic(MD) simulations and experimental exploration is used to investigate the adsorption behavior and conformational change of bovine serum albumin(BSA), a representative protein of blood plasma, upon the surface of microarc oxidation(MAO) coated Mg alloy AZ31. The influences of absorbed proteins on the cytocompatibility of MAO coating are evaluated by virtue of cytotoxicity assay. Results indicate that the negatively charged O atoms(BSA) exhibit strong interaction with Mg^(2+) ions of Mg(OH)_(2), revealing that BSA molecules are ionically adsorbed on the AZ31 surface. Interestingly, MD simulation reveals that MAO coating demonstrates superior ability to capture BSA molecules during the process of adsorption owing to strong electric attraction between the negatively charged O atoms in BSA molecules with Mg atoms of MgO in MAO coating. Moreover, the α-helix part of absorbed BSA molecules on AZ31 substrate and MAO coating markedly decreases with an increase in β-sheet, β-turn and unordered contents, which is attributed to the reduction in the number of hydrogen bonds in BSA molecules. Furthermore, the adsorbed BSA molecules improve the cytocompatibility of MAO coating since the positively charged-NH_(3)^(+) group and β-sheet content of absorbed BSA molecules mediate the cell adhesion by interacting with the negatively charged cell membrane.

High specificity detection of Pb^2＋ ions by p-SCN-Bz-DTPA immunogen and p-NH2-Bn-DTPA coating antigen

Only one bifunctional metal-chelator was used to prepare immunogen and coating antigen in all of the previous researches. However, the antibody-specific recognition to the spacer arm of the bifunctional metal- chelator might lower the specificity of heavy metal ions immunoassay. Two different bifunctional metal-chelators were adopted to prepare the immunogen and coating antigen respectively in our study to avoid this problem. The conjugates of keyhole limpet hemocyanin （KLH） and p-SCN-Bz-DTPA-Pb were used as immunogen, whereas the conjugates of bovine sentrn albumin （BSA） and p- NH2-Bn-DTPA-Pb were used as coating antigen. Poly- clonal antibodies specific to DTPA-Pb chelates were obtained from rabbits. Indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） was adopted to detect Pb^2＋ ion solutions prepared by Pb^2＋ standard solution and ultrapure water. In the mixing microplate, DTPA and Pb2＋ ions formed chelates and combined with specific anti- bodies. After incubation, the DTPA-Pb and the antibodies complex were added into the wells of the reaction microplate. The reaction microplate was coated by the conjugates ofBSA andp-NH2-DTPA-Pb, which competed for the specific antibodies. The result signals presented a good sigmoid curve when the Pb^2＋ concentration ranges from 0.01 to 100mg·L^-1 The IC50 of the indirect competitive ELISA is 0.23±0.04mg·L^-1 Pb2＋ ion. The cross-reaction with Cd^2＋, Cu^2＋, Fe^2＋, Mn^2＋, Zn^2＋, and other divalent ions were less than 5%.

Therapeutic plasma exchange and continuous renal replacement therapy for severe hyperthyroidism and multi-organ failure:A case report

BACKGROUND Severe hyperthyroidism is a life-threatening exacerbation of thyrotoxicosis,characterized by high fever and multiorgan failure. The most common medical treatments are administration of antithyroid drugs and radioactive iodine, and thyroidectomy. In some patients, antithyroid therapy is limited due to serious adverse effects or failure to control disease progression. In some extreme cases,such as thyroid storm, conventional therapy alone does not yield effective and rapid improvement before the development of multiorgan *** SUMMARY This report describes a Chinese patient with severe hyperthyroidism accompanied by multiorgan failure, who was transferred to the medical intensive care unit of our hospital. The patient presented with palpitations, vomiting,diarrhea, and shortness of breath for a week. Laboratory tests showed elevation of thyroid hormones. Hepatic failure occurred with high aminotransferase levels and jaundice. Given her abnormal liver function and medication history, we could not exclude diagnosis of propylthiouracil-induced hepatic ***, she also suffered from heart failure. Therapeutic plasma exchange(commonly known as TPE) and continuous renal replacement therapy(commonly known as CRRT) were used as life-saving therapy, which resulted in notable improvement of clinical symptoms and laboratory *** Combined TPE and CRRT are safe and effective for patients with hyperthyroidism and multiorgan failure.

Determination of petroleum sulfonates in crude oil by column-switching anion-exchange chromatography

A column-switching anion-exchange chromatography method was described for the separation and determination of petroleum monosulfonates （PMS） and petroleum disulfonates （PDS） in crude oil that was simply diluted with the dichloromethane/methanol （60/40）. The high performance liquid chromatography （HPLC） system consisted of a clean-up column and an analytical column, which were connected with two six-port switching valves. Detection of petroleum sulfonates was available and repeatable. This method has been successfully applied to determine PMS and PDS in crude oil samples from Shengli oil field.

Chinese tongue sole(Cynoglossus semilaevis)is an economically important marine fish species with a ZZ/ZW sex determination mechanism,which can be influenced by *** splicing(AS)is an important mechanism regulating the expression of genes related to sex determination and gonadal differentiation,but has rarely been reported in *** this study,to explore the molecular regulatory mechanisms of sex determination and gonadal differentiation,we combined isoform and RNA sequencing(Iso-Seq and RNA-Seq)to perform transcriptome profiling of male and female gonads in *** total,81883 and 32341 full-length transcripts were obtained in males and females,respectively.A total of 8279 AS genes were identified,including 2639 genes showing differential AS(DAS)between males and *** intersecting DAS genes and differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were enriched in the meiotic cell cycle pathway,and genes related to gonadal differentiation,such as esrrb and wt1a,were found to have sex-specific ***,this study revealed AS events in the gonadal transcriptomes of male and female ***,described the characteristics of active transcription in the testes,and identified candidate genes for studying the regulatory mechanisms of AS during gonadal differentiation.

Nondestructive Quantitative Analysis of Cofrel Medicines by Double ANN-NIR Spectroscopy

In this paper, a double artificial neural network （DANN） algorithm was used to parse near infrared （NIR） reflectance spectrum of Cofrel medicines. The contents of benproperine phosphate, which is the effective ingredient in Cofrel medicines, were accurately nondestructive quantitatively predicted. Compared the results with those of HPLC, the relative errors （RE %） were less than 0.18%. The analytical results could be applied to qualitative control of Cofrel medicines.
