Characterization of a Watermelon mosaic virus Isolate Inducing a Severe Disease in Watermelon in Saudi Arabia

In one of the field visits to cucurbits-growing areas in vicinity of Riyadh city during 2013-2015,severe virus disease-like symptoms were observed on watermelon in al-Ammariyah *** inoculation of the different plant species used in the host range study,from the collected symptomatic watermelon samples,produced mosaic symptoms on Citrullus lanatus,Cucumis sativus,Cucurbita pepo,***,*** *** and Nicotiana benthamiana,but chlorotic local lesions on Chenopodium *** symptoms were observed on the rest of the other inoculated plant *** virus was transmitted by Aphis gossypii and *** in a non-persistent *** electron microscopic examination of watermelon samples using the leaf dip method revealed only microscopic filamentous shaped virus particles measuring 750 nm in length and 12 nm in diameter in *** revealed positive results only to Watermelon mosaic virus(WMV)and negative to Zucchini yellow mosaic virus(ZYMV),Papaya ringspot virus(PRSV),Cucumber mosaic virus(CMV)and Squash mosaic virus(SqMV).Specific bands of approximately 825 bp were formed on agarose gel following electrophoresis of the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)products of each of the naturally infected ***,and artificially infected ***,***,***,and *** homology tree that was constructed from multiple sequence alignments of the detected Saudi Arabian isolate of WMV(WMV-SA)with 18 other isolates of WMV from nine different countries indicated close relationships between *** isolates from Spain and two other isolates from Iran were more closely related to the WMV-SA whereas the isolate from Poland was the least.

Protective effects of Balanites aegyptiaca extract, melatonin and ursodeoxycholic acid against hepatotoxicity induced by methotrexate in male rats

Objective: To compare the degree of ameliorative effects of Melatonin(MEL), Ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) and Balanites aegyptiaca(BA) against hepatotoxicity induced by MTX for one month. Methods: Eighty adult male rats(Sprague Dawely) weighing(190±10g), were randomly divided into eight equal groups: Control, MTX, MEL, BA, UDCA, MTX+MEL, MTX+BA, MTX+UDCA. Liver function biomarker enzymes, liver tissue oxidative stress parameters, together with total antioxidant capacity and tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α) were determined. Histopathological and immunohistochemistry examinations for TNF-α were also done. Results: MTX showed significant increase in alanine transaminase(alT), aspartate transaminase(AST), alkaline phosphatase(alP), gamma glutamyl transferase(GGT), total and direct bilirubin, as well as TNF-α levels, oxidized glutathione(GSSG), malodialdehyde(MDA) and nitric oxide(NO). whereas, total protein, albumin, total antioxidant capacity, reduced glutathione(GSH), glutathione peroxidase(GPx), glutathione reductase(GR), glutathione S-transferase(GST), superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) levels were significantly decreased in MTX treated group. These alterations were improved by MEL and BA treatment, whereas no improvement was noticed in UDCA treatment. Conclusions: BA may be as promising as MEL in the hepatoprotection against MTX toxicity through their antioxidant and radical scavenging activities. In addition, it is not recommended to co-administer UDCA with MTX as it enhanced inflammation and damage to the liver.

Functional and anatomical evaluation of the effect of nepafenac in prevention of macular edema after phacoemulsification in diabetic patients

AIM: To evaluate the effect of prophylactic administration of nepafenac in prevention of macular edema occurring in diabetic patients after phacoemulsification and to investigate the correlation between optical coherence tomography(OCT) foveal thickness and multifocal electroretinogram(MF-ERG) ***: The study included two groups. Group 1 included 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 30 females, 20 males, aged 55±7 y) received nepafenac 0.1% eye drop. Group 2 included another 50 diabetic patients with senile cataract(50 eyes, 22 female, 28 males, aged 53.8±8 y) did not receive nepafenac. all patients were followed up for 3 mo postoperatively. OCT and MF-ERG were done preoperative and at 1 wk, 1, 2 and 3 ***: The mean foveal thickness was statistically significantly lower in Group 1. Five eyes in Group 2 developed clinical cystoid macular oedema(CMO)(10%), and no patients in Group 1 developed central macular thickening more than 50 μm. There were insignificant differences in MF-ERG amplitudes and latencies between the two groups except in the five eyes that developed CMO, there statistically significant reduction of MF-ERG amplitude with increase in foveal thickness. CONCLUSION: Perioperative nepafenac reduces the incidence of CMO following uncomplicated phacoemulsification significantly. Nepafenac has no side effects.

Industry 4.0, or the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is based on digitized the manufacturing process and makes use of all digital tools so its combination of various digital technologies computers, ERP software, IoT, machine learning and AI techniques, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), and big data analytics to create a new, fully digitized manufacturing system. The Critical Success Factors (CSFs) of MES adoption are both a quantitative and qualitative measurement. We use the case of ready-made garments to improve each of the three Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) factors: Availability, Performance, and Quality. In this study, we adopt real-time management of production activities on the shop floor from order receipt to finished products, then measure the improvement.

Beryl is the commercial source of beryllium and several varieties of it are valued as a *** contribute to understanding the mechanism of beryl formation,we carried out detailed geological,petrographical,and geochemical investigations on beryl mineralization occurrences in the Zabara-Wadi El Gemal(Z-WG)*** region is an NW-SE trending tract that includes six berylhosting *** green gem variety of beryl(emerald)is restricted to phlogopite schist,pegmatite,and quartz *** hexagonal emerald crystals are well-developed in phlogopite schist and *** gem variety emerald examined is sodic and *** contains high concentrations of chromophore transition elements ordering Cr(up to 1511 ppm)>V(up to 242 ppm)>Sc(up to 245 ppm),giving rise to its vivid green color,refl ecting mafic-ultramafic source *** the investigated emeralds,the Sikait area contains the highest BeO(av.10.76wt.%)*** compositional variability of emeralds is most likely attributed to the contribution from the host *** is revealed by the examined emerald mineralization,for instance;the Abu Rusheid area(one of the best areas exposing rare metal-bearing granitoids)possesses the highest average of trace and REEs *** contrast,Um Kabu emerald has the highest contents of Co(av.20 ppm),Ni(av.299 ppm),MgO(av.8.2wt.%),Fe_(2)O_(3)(av.3.12wt.%),and CaO(avg.3.4wt.%)relative to other areas,which may be linked to contribution of ultramafic rocks exposed *** proposed mechanism we suggest for emerald genesis is metasomatic interaction between felsic intrusions,that are enriched with K,Na,Be,Li,and B,with mafic-ultramafic rocks that are enriched in Cr,V,Mg,Fe,and *** interaction is marked by the formation of phlogopite schist,the growth of emerald crystals,and desilicated pegmatite.

Non-uremic calciphylaxis associated with alcoholic hepatitis: A case report

BACKGROUND Calciphylaxis is a form of vascular calcification more commonly associated with renal disease. While the exact mechanism of calciphylaxis is poorly understood,most cases are due to end stage kidney disease. However, it can also be found in patients without kidney disease and in such cases is termed non-uremic calciphylaxis for which have multiple proposed *** SUMMARY We describe a case of a thirty-year-old morbidly obese Caucasian female who had a positive history of alcoholic hepatitis and presented with painful calciphylaxis wounds of the abdomen, hips, and thighs. The hypercoagulability panel showed low levels of Protein C and normal Protein S, low Antithrombin Ⅲ and positive lupus anticoagulant and negative anticardiolipin. Wound biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of non-uremic calciphylaxis in the setting of alcoholic liver disease. The calciphylaxis wounds did not improve when Sodium Thiosulfate was used alone. The patient underwent a series of bedside and surgical debridement. Broad spectrum antibiotics were also used for secondary wound bacterial infections. The patient passed away shortly after due to sepsis and multiorgan *** Non-uremic Calciphylaxis can occur in the setting of alcoholic liver disease. The treatment of choice is still unknown.

A large subset of corneal pathologies involves the formation of new vessels(neovascularization), leading to compromised visual acuity. This article aims to review the clinical causes and presentations of corneal neovascularization(CNV) by examining the mechanisms behind common CNV-related corneal pathologies, with a particular focus on herpes simplex stromal keratitis,contact lenses-induced keratitis and CNV secondary to keratoplasty. Moreover, we reviewed CNV in the context of different types of corneal transplantation and keratoprosthesis, and summarized the most relevant treatment available so far.
