Cost-effectiveness analysis of different anesthesia strategies for transperineal MRI/US fusion prostate biopsy

This study aims to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis of three different anesthesia strategies,namely chatting while under local anesthesia(Chat-LA),total intravenous anesthesia(TIVA),and general anesthesia with laryngeal mask airway(GA-LMA),employed in transperineal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)/ultrasound(US)fusion prostate biopsy(TP-MUF-PB).A retrospective study was conducted involving 1202 patients who underwent TP-MUF-PB from June 2016 to April 2023 at The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University(Suzhou,China).Clinical data and outcomes,including total costs,complications,and quality-adjusted life years(QALYs),were *** sensitivity and subgroup analyses were also ***-LA was found to be the most cost-effective option,outperforming both TIVA and ***,subgroup analyses revealed that in younger patients(under 65 years old)and those with smaller prostate volumes(<40 ml),TIVA emerged as a more cost-effective *** Chat-LA may generally be the most cost-effective and safer anesthesia method for TP-MUF-PB,personalization of anesthesia strategies is crucial,considering specific patient demographics such as age and prostate volume.

Water use strategy of Ammopiptanthus mongolicus community in a drought year on the Mongolian Plateau

Aims In desert ecosystems,water is a restricting factor for plant growth and vegetation *** relatively stable water source from deep soil profile or groundwater is important for plant survival during *** water use strategy of endangered species,in desert ecosystem is essential for their conservation and restoration such as Ammopiptanthus mongolicus on the Mongolian *** The stable isotope method ofδD andδ^(18)O was used to examine the main water sources of *** and two companion shrubs,*** ordosica and Artemisia *** contribution of different water sources to each species was calculated by IsoSource ***δ13C was used to compare long-term water use efficiency of three *** moisture and root distribution of three shrubs was measured to explain plant water use *** Findings The results showed that *** relied on groundwater and 150–200 cm deep soil water,with the former contributing to almost half of its total water *** ordosica mainly used 150–200 cm deep soil water,but also used shallow soil water within 100 cm in summer and *** xerophytica mainly used 150–200 cm deep soil water and groundwater,with the latter contributing to about 30%–60%of its total water *** three shrubs had dimorphic or deep root systems,which are in accord with their water *** WUE in the evergreen shrub *** was higher than in two deciduous Artemisia shrubs,which may be an adaptive advantage in desert ***,groundwater is an important water source for the endangered shrub *** in a drought year on Mongolian *** mongolicus and two Artemisia shrubs competed for deep soil water and groundwater.

Owing to the limitations of the present efforts on drug discovery against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)and the lack of the understanding of the biological regulation mechanisms underlying COVID-19,alternative or novel therapeutic targets for COVID-19 treatment are still urgently ***-CoV-2 infection and immunity dysfunction are the two main courses driving the pathogenesis of *** the virus and host factors are potential targets for antiviral ***,in this study,the current therapeutic strategies of COVID-19 have been classified into"target virus"and"target host" *** drugs,emerging approaches,and promising potential targets are the implementations of the above two ***,a comprehensive review of the highly acclaimed old drugs was performed according to evidence-based medicine to provide recommendations for ***,their unavailability in the fight against COVID-19 was ***,a profound analysis of the emerging approaches was conducted,particularly all licensed vaccines and monoclonal antibodies(mAbs)enrolled in clinical trials against primary SARS-CoV-2 and mutant ***,the pros and cons of the present licensed vaccines were compared from different ***,the most promising potential targets were reviewed,and the update of the progress of treatments has been summarized based on these reviews.

Identification of in situ Generated Iron-Vacancy Induced Oxygen Evolution Reaction Kinetics on Cobalt Iron Oxyhydroxide

Developing highly efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts towards oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is essential for practical application in water electrolyzers and rechargeable metal-air *** Fe-based oxyhydroxides are regarded as state-of-the-art non-noble OER electrocatalysts,the origin of performance enhancement derived from Fe doping remains a hot topic of considerable ***,we demonstrate that in situ generated Fe vacancies in the pristine CoFeOOH catalyst through a pre-conversion process during alkaline OER result from dynamic Fe dissolution,identifying the origin of Fe-vacancy-induced enhanced OER *** functional theory(DFT)calculations and experimental results including X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopy,in situ UV-Vis spectroscopy,and in situ Raman spectroscopy reveal that the Fe vacancies could significantly promote the d-band center and valence states of adjacent Co sites,alter the active site from Fe atom to Co atom,accelerate the formation of high-valent active Co^(4+)species,and reduce the energy barrier of the potential-determining step,thereby contribute to the significantly enhanced OER performance.

Heavy metals potentially drive co-selection of antibiotic resistance genes by shifting soil bacterial communities in paddy soils along the middle and lower yangtze River

Heavy metals(HMs)and antibiotic resistance have become serious environmental problems affecting soil and human *** microorganisms play key roles in pollutant degradation and biogeochemical cycling processes;however,the interactions among HMs,soil microbial communities,and antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)in agricultural soils remain *** quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and NovaSeq sequencing,we evaluated heavy metal contents,abundances of ARGs,soil bacterial community structure and functions,and their correlations in paddy soils at 43 sampling sites along the middle and lower reaches of the yangtze River,central and eastern *** results showed the co-occurrence of HMs,ARGs,and HM resistance genes across all paddy ***,significant positive associations were detected between HMs and resistance ***,czcA,and int1 were positively correlated with bacterial community *** Mantel test showed that bacterial community composition and functions were significantly associated with HMs and resistance genes,such as Cd,Cr,Zn,copA,czcA,int1,and ***,HMs and ARGs were the major factors shaping soil bacterial communities;thus,HMs triggered proliferation of HM and antibiotic resistances by influencing the mobile genetic element(int1)and soil microbial *** study revealed that HMs potentially drive the co-selection of ARGs by shifting soil bacterial community structure and functions,thereby increasing the potential risks to human health as well as ecological environment in the paddy soils along the middle and lower reaches of the yangtze River.

Engineering FeOOH/Ni(OH)_(2) heterostructures on Ni_(3)S_(2)surface to enhance seawater splitting

The construction of highly stable and efficient electrocatalysts is desirable for seawater splitting but remains challenging due to the high concentration of Cl-in ***,FeOOH/Ni(OH)_(2)heterostructure supported on Ni_(3)S_(2)-covered nickel foam(Fe–Ni/Ni_(3)S_(2)/NF)was fabricated by hydrothermal and etching methods,as well as anodic oxidation *** electronic structure of FeOOH and Ni(OH)_(2)could be modulated after depositing FeOOH nanoparticles on Ni(OH)_(2)nanosheet,which greatly boosted the catalytic *** the catalyst used as an electrode for oxygen evolution reaction(OER),it needed low overpotentials of 266 and 368 m V to achieve current densities of 100 and 800 m A·cm^(-2),respectively,in 1 mol·L^(-1)KOH+seawater *** can operate continuously at 100 m A·cm^(-2)for 400 h without obvious ***,in situ generated SO_(4)^(2-)from inner Ni_(3)S_(2)during electrolysis process would accumulate on the surface of active sites to form passivation layers to repel Cl^(-),which seemed to be responsible for superior *** study not only synthesizes an OER catalyst for highly selective and stable seawater splitting,but also gives a novel approach for industrial hydrogen production.

The practical application of high-energy-density lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries have been highly praised for energy storage devices,while are largely hindered by the“shuttling effect”.Herein,core-shell carbon spheres composed of interlinked porous core and lamellar shell were designed to restrain the polysulfide *** microporous structure with pore size of around 1 nm effectively trap lithium ***,the interconnected porous core shortens the ion transfer distance and the lamellar carbon shell endows the carbon spheres with fast electron conduction,finally facilitating polysulfide conversion ***,the Li-S batteries with the carbon spheres as the interlayer show high discharge specific capacity of 1002 m Ah/g at 2 C with 574 m Ah/g remaining after 600 cycles,and high areal capacity of 5.48 m Ah/cm^(2) with sulfur loading of 4.67 mg/cm^(2) at 0.1 *** corresponding pouch cells also exhibit stable cycling stability with an initial discharge specific capacity of 1082 m Ah/g at 0.1 C.

BACKGROUND The Alcian blue(AB)and periodic acid Schiff(PAS)stains are representative mucus markers in gastric signet ring cell carcinoma(SRCC).They are low-cost special staining methods used to detect acidic mucus and neutral mucus,***,the clinical importance of the special combined AB and PAS stain is *** To investigate AB expression,PAS expression and the AB-to-PAS(A/P)ratio in gastric SRCC patients and to assess patient *** Paraffin-embedded sections from 83 patients with gastric SRCC were stained with AB and PAS,and signet ring cell positivity was assessed ***-histochemical staining for Ki67,protein 53(P53)and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)was performed *** cancer-specific survival(CSS)rate was estimated via Kaplan-Meier *** proportional hazards models were used for univariate and multivariate survival *** Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that the 3-year CSS rate was significantly greater in the high-PAS-expression subgroup than in the low-PAS-expression subgroup(P0.5 group(P=0.042).Univariate Cox regression analysis revealed that the factors affecting prognosis included tumor diameter,lymph node metastasis,vessel carcinoma embolus,tumor stage,the A/P ratio and the expression of Ki67,P53 and the *** multivariate regression analysis confirmed that low PAS expression[hazard ratio(HR)=3.809,95%confidence interval(CI):1.563-9.283,P=0.003]and large tumor diameter(HR=2.761,95%CI:1.086-7.020,P=0.033)were independent risk factors for poor *** A/P>0.5 is potentially a risk factor for prognosis,and low PAS expression is an independent risk factor in the prognosis of gastric *** expression and the A/P ratio could help in predicting the clinical prognosis of patients with SRCC.
