Effects of Long-Term Groundwater Management and Straw Application on Aggregation of Paddy Soils in Subtropical China

Soil organic carbon （SOC） and iron （Fe）-oxides are important contributors of aggregate stability in highly weathered soils, and they are influenced by groundwater management and straw application. A 30-year plot experiment with early rice （Oryza sativa L.）-late rice-winter fallow rotations was conducted using a upland clay soil in cement pools under shallow groundwater table at a depth of 20 am （SGT） aud deep groundwater table at a depth of 80 cm （DGT） to simulate the groundwater tables of two types of important paddy soils, gleyed paddy soils and hydromorphic paddy soils, respectively, in subtropical China. Soil redox potential （Eh） was measured in situ, and 0-20 cm soil samples were collected for the analyses of soil Fe-oxides, SOC, and aggregates under SGT or DGT with different straw application treatments, in order to evaluate the interaction of groundwater management and straw application on paddy soil aggregation and the relative importance of SOC or Fe-oxides on soil aggregation. The results showed that soil Eh was restricted by irrigation, and its variation was more significant under DGT than under SGT. The decreased soil Eh or reduced drying and wetting cycles under SGT resulted in more SOC accumulation with the straw application, had no effect on soil free Fe-oxides （Fed）, significantly increased the amorphous Fe-oxide （Feo） and complex Fe-oxide contents, but decreased the crystalline Fe-oxide content （Fed-Feo）. The soils under DGT had more macroaggregates than those under SGT, but the difference decreased with the straw application. It could be concluded that soil Fe-oxides were the principal contributing factor to the aggregation of paddy soils in subtropical China and SOC was also an important contributing factor.

Two efficient single-site Ru water oxidation catalysts [Ru（bda）（pic）（Ln）] （bda=2,2＇-bipyridine- 6,6＇-dicarboxylic acid, pic=picoline, Ll=4,5-bipyridine-2,7-di-tett-butyl-9,9-dimethylxanthene, L2=4- pyridine-5-phenyl-2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylxanthene） were only synthesized containing different xanthene ligands at the axial site. These complexes have been thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic （UV-vis, NMR） and electrochemical （CV and DIV） techniques. Kinetic analysis proved that the mechanism of water oxidation comprises the water nucleophilic attack process on high-valence ruthenium species. It is found that the catalyst I displayed higher activity than catalyst 2 on water oxidation, caused by the protonation of the axial ligand LI with a free pyridine.

It is important to find a reliable method to estimate maximum sustainable yield(MSY)or total allowable catch(TAC)for fishery management,especially when the data availability is limited which is a case in China.A recently developed method(CMSY)is a data-poor method,which requires only catch data,resilience and exploitation history at the first and final years of the catch *** was used in this study to estimate the biological reference points for Largehead hairtail(Trichiurus lepturus,Temminck and Schlegel)in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea,based on the fishery data from China Fishery Statistical Year Books during 1986 to ***,Bayesian state-space Schaefer surplus production model(BSM)and the classical surplus production models(Schaefer and Fox)performed by software CEDA and ASPIC,were also projected in this study to compare with the performance of *** estimated MSYs from all models are about 19.7×104–27.0×104 t,while CMSY and BSM yielded more reasonable population parameter estimates(the intrinsic population growth rate and the carrying capacity).The biological reference points of B/BMSY smaller than 1.0,while F/FMSY higher than 1.0 revealed an over-exploitation of the fishery,indicating that more conservative management strategies are required for Largehead hairtail fishery.

Lateral two-dimensional(2D) heterostructures have opened up unprecedented opportunities in modern electronic device and material science. In this work, electronic properties of size-dependent MoTe2/WTe2 lateral heterostructures(LHSs)are investigated through the first-principles density functional calculations. The constructed periodic multi-interfaces patterns can also be defined as superlattice structures. Consequently, the direct band gap character remains in all considered LHSs without any external modulation, while the gap size changes within little difference range with the building blocks increasing due to the perfect lattice matching. The location of the conduction band minimum(CBM) and the valence band maximum(VBM) will change from P-point to Γ-point when m plus n is a multiple of 3 for A-mn LHSs as a result of Brillouin zone folding. The bandgap located at high symmetry Γ-point is favourable to electron transition, which might be useful to optoelectronic device and could be achieved by band engineering. Type-II band alignment occurs in the MoTe2/WTe2 LHSs, for electrons and holes are separated on the opposite domains, which would reduce the recombination rate of the charge carriers and facilitate the quantum efficiency. Moreover, external biaxial strain leads to efficient bandgap engineering. MoTe2/WTe2 LHSs could serve as potential candidate materials for next-generation electronic devices.
