two-proton relative momentum distributions from the break-up channels 23Al→p+p+21Na and 22Mg→p+p+20Ne at an energy of 60-70 A MeV have been measured together with two-proton opening angles at the projectile fragment separator beamline (RIPS) in the RIKEN Ring Cyclotron Facility. the results demonstrate the existence of diproton emission component from single-step 2He for highly excited 23Al and 22Mg.

the lifetime of the first excited 2+ state in 18C was measured using an upgraded recoil shadow method to determine the electric quadrupole transition. the measured mean lifetime is 18.9±0.9(stat)±4.4(syst)ps,which corresponds to a B(E2; 2+1→0+gs) value of (4.3± 0.2±1.0) e2fm4,or about 1.5 Weisskopf units. the mean lifetime of the first 2+ state in 16C was remeasured to be about 18 ps,about four times shorter than the value reported previously. this discrepancy was explained by incorporating the γ-ray angular distribution measured in this work into the previous measurement. the observed transition strengths in 16,18C are hindered compared to the empirical transition strengths,indicating that the anomalous hindrance observed in 16C persists in 18C.

Background Primary eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders(EGIDs)constitute chronic allergic *** number of eosinophils is one of the diagnostic criteria;more than 20 eosinophils per high-power field(HPF)in the gastrointestinal(GI)tract are considered abnormal in ***,the quantity of eosinophils considered normal varies according to anatomical location and geographical region;such values have not been reported in Japanese pediatric patients,nor have the numbers of lymphocytes in the normal pediatric *** establish a reference for defining diagnostic criteria for EGIDs,we evaluated the number of eosinophils in the normal Japanese pediatric GI *** We examined 131 biopsy cases without significant clinical history,endoscopic abnormality,or histological *** analysis of CD3 and CD20 was *** the mean eosinophil density was highest in the cecum(49.5±22.4 per HPF).Counts of more than 20 eosinophils per HPF were observed in the duodenum[bulb(20.0±9.6)and second portion(30.0±15.8)],terminal ileum(38.3±22.7),cecum(49.5±22.4),ascending colon(42.3±25.3),transverse colon(29.4±17.0),and descending colon(32.2±17.9).Counts of fewer than 10 eosinophils per HPF were observed in the stomach and rectum;a count of fewer than one eosinophil per HPF was observed in the *** than 100 CD3-positive t cells per HPF were observed in the *** the mean numbers of eosinophils in the bowel were greater than 20 per *** Japanese pediatrics,the cur-rent threshold eosinophil count should be revised.

trong>Introduction:trong> Many overseas volunteers have worked in low and middle-income countries. However traveling abroad and staying in an unfamiliar environment with inadequate medical infrastructure exposes volunteers to a wide range of health risks. the aim of this study was to clarify the relationships among disease knowledge and symptoms, disease risk perception, and self-management skills. trong>Methods:trong> this was a questionnaire survey of 189 Japanese who were preparing to volunteer abroad. A factor analysis was conducted on 13 items (six general risk events and seven major diseases) of risk perception. Correlation analysis was performed between the identified risk perception factors and disease knowledge and symptoms. Risk perception scores by factors from the seven disease items were compared between the Self-management Score (SMS) group and disease knowledge and risk of symptoms group, using t-tests. St. Luke’s International University Ethics Committee (19-A092) approved this study. trong>Results:trong> Many participants expected to suffer from digestive diseases (69.3%) and dermatitis (55%) in the field. On the other hand, few expected high risk of malaria (26.5%) or dengue fever (36%). Factor analysis yielded robust factor loadings creating a “Dread” and an “Unknown” factor accounting for 62.2% of total variance. Strong correlation was not found between SMS and disease risk perception. A weak negative correlation was observed in dengue fever, digestive disorders, and dermatitis (r = −0.20 to −0.25, p the “Unknown” factor. A high SMS score was associated with a lower “Unknown” factor score for malaria, diarrhea, dermatitis, and dental disorders. Purpose: to improve the image resolution of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), conventional interpolation methods are commonly used to magnify images via various image processing approaches;however, these methods tend to produce artifacts. While super-resolution (SR) schemes have been introduced as an alternative approach to apply medical imaging, previous studies applied SR only to medical images in 8-bit image format. this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of sparse-coding super-resolution (ScSR) for improving the image quality of reconstructed high-resolution MR images in 16-bit digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) image format. Materials and Methods: Fifty-nine t1-weighted images (t1), 84 t2-weighted images (t2), 85 fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images, and 30 diffusion-weighted images (DWI) were sampled from the Repository of Molecular Brain Neoplasia Data as testing datasets, and 1307 non-medical images were sampled from the McGill Calibrated Color Image Database as a training dataset. We first trained the ScSR to prepare dictionaries, in which the relationship between low- and high-resolution images was learned. Using these dictionaries, a high-resolution image was reconstructed from a 16-bit DICOM low-resolution image downscaled from the original test image. We compared the image quality of ScSR and 4 interpolation methods (nearest neighbor, bilinear, bicubic, and Lanczos interpolations). For quantitative evaluation, we measured the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM). Results: the PSNRs and SSIMs for the ScSR were significantly higher than those of the interpolation methods for all 4 MRI sequences (PSNR: p p Conclusion: ScSR provides significantly higher image quality in terms of enhancing the resolution of MR images (t1, t2, FLAIR, and DWI) in 16-bit DICOM format compared to the interpolation methods.
