Within the electronic design automation(EDA) domain, artificial intelligence(AI)-driven solutions have emerged as formidable tools, yet they typically augment rather than redefine existing methodologies. These solutions often repurpose deep learning models from other domains, such as vision, text, and graph analytics, applying them to circuit design without tailoring to the unique complexities of electronic circuits. Such an “AI4EDA” approach falls short of achieving a holistic design synthesis and understanding,overlooking the intricate interplay of electrical, logical, and physical facets of circuit data. This study argues for a paradigm shift from AI4EDA towards AI-rooted EDA from the ground up, integrating AI at the core of the design process. Pivotal to this vision is the development of a multimodal circuit representation learning technique, poised to provide a comprehensive understanding by harmonizing and extracting insights from varied data sources, such as functional specifications, register-transfer level(RTL) designs, circuit netlists,and physical layouts. We champion the creation of large circuit models(LCMs) that are inherently multimodal, crafted to decode and express the rich semantics and structures of circuit data, thus fostering more resilient, efficient, and inventive design methodologies. Embracing this AI-rooted philosophy, we foresee a trajectory that transcends the current innovation plateau in EDA, igniting a profound “shift-left” in electronic design methodology. The envisioned advancements herald not just an evolution of existing EDA tools but a revolution, giving rise to novel instruments of design-tools that promise to radically enhance design productivity and inaugurate a new epoch where the optimization of circuit performance, power, and area(PPA) is achieved not incrementally, but through leaps that redefine the benchmarks of electronic systems' capabilities.

Sensitivity Improvements for Picosecond Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements in Gold and Tungsten Nanoscale Films

Picosecond ultrasonics,as a nondestructive and noncontact method,can be employed for nanoscale metallic film thickness *** sensitivity of the system,which determines the measurement precision and practicability of this technique,is often limited by the weak intensity of the ultrasonic *** solve this problem,we investigate the distinct mechanisms involved in picosecond ultrasonic thickness measurement for two types of metals,namely tungsten(W)and gold(Au).For thickness measurement in W films,theory and simulation show that optimizing the pump and probe laser wavelengths,which determine the intensity and shape of the ultrasonic signal,is critical to improving measurement sensitivity,while for Au film measurements,where acoustic-induced beam distortion is dominant,the signal intensity can be optimized by selecting an appropriate aperture size and sample *** above approaches are validated in experiments.A dual-wavelength pump-probe system is constructed based on a passively mode-locked ytterbium-doped fiber *** smoothing method and multipeak Gaussian fitting are employed for the extraction of ultrasonic *** measurement precision is achieved in a series of W and Au films with thicknesses of 43-750 *** work can be applied to various high-precision,noncontact measurements of metal film thickness in the semiconductor industry.

The pressure-induced color change in the nitrogen-doped lutetium hydride has triggered extensive discussions about the underlying physics and potential ***,we study the optical response of LuH_(2±x)N_(y)in a broad frequency range at ambient pressure and its evolution with pressure in the visible spectral *** broad-band optical spectra at ambient pressure reveal a Drude component associated with intra-band electronic transitions and two Lorentz components(L1 and L2)arising from inter-band electronic *** application of pressure causes a spectral weight transfer from L1 to the Drude component,leading to a blue shift of the plasma edge in the reflectivity spectrum alongside a reduction of the high-frequency *** results suggest that the pressure-induced color change in LuH_(2±x)N_(y)is closely related to the transformation between intra-and inter-band electronic transitions,providing new insights into the mechanism of the pressure-induced color change in LuH_(2±x)N_(y).

Warming intensified the effects of nitrogen addition on N_(2)O emissions from alpine meadow in the northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Warming and nitrogen(N)addition may impact soil nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)emissions,but the relationship between plant community composition and soil microbial activities remains *** a two-year field study in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,open-top chambers were used to quantify the effects of warming,N-addition,and their interactions on N_(2)O *** found that the N-addition greatly increased N_(2)O emissions by 77.4%in 2018 when compared to the control *** contrast,warming showed little effect on N_(2)0 emissions but did increase the activity of enzymes associated with soil nitrification and denitrification.A combined effect of warming and N-addition of resulted in 208.6%(2018)and 90.8%(2019)increase in N_(2)0 emissions,respectively,compared to the individual treatments of warming or *** warming in alpine meadows is causally linked to increased legume biomass which is further intensified with the *** legume biomass(pyme activity(p<0.001)had a positive effect on N_(2)0 emissions,while diminished microbial carbon/nitrogen(MBC/MBN)(p<0.05)correlated with reduced N_(2)O *** results indicated that N-addition has a positive effect on N_(2)O emissions,and the addition of warming further intensifies this *** increased dominance of legumes and microbial N content contributes to this *** outcomes suggest that warming and atmospheric N deposition can stimulate N_(2)O emissions of alpine meadows inthefuture.

Multifunctional Peptide-Melanin Hybrid Nanodots with Robust Anti-Cutaneous Photoaging Activity

Skin aging is a systematic and complex process, mainly including intrinsic aging caused by time change and extrinsic aging caused by environmental factors. Photoaging caused by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is the principle extrinsic factor of skin aging, which can directly or indirectly cause damage to DNA and other biomolecules, generate reactive oxygen species(ROS), and induce a decrease in collagen synthesis and other adverse eff ect. Herein, to address the causative factors and multiple side eff ects of skin photoaging, we constructed multifunctional peptide-melanin hybrid nanodots (PMHDs) to achieve multifaceted synergistic anti-skin aging by using melanin-like nanodots (MDs) and functional peptides as active *** them, the peptide has the activity of promoting collagen synthesis, while the MDs have the function of absorbing UV light and scavenging free radicals. Additionally, the MDs also act as a carrier to increase the cellular uptake of the *** anti-photoaging eff ects of the PMHDs were systematically verifi ed in a multidimensional manner at the biochemical,cellular and small animal levels, respectively.

Feralization is an important evolutionary process,but the mechanisms behind it remain poorly ***,we use the ancient fiber crop ramie(Boehmeria nivea(L.)Gaudich.)as a model to investigate genomic changes associated with both domestication and *** first produced a chromosome-scale de novo genome assembly of feral ramie and investigated structural variations between feral and domesticated ramie ***,we gathered 915 accessions from 23 countries,comprising cultivars,major landraces,feral populations,and the wild *** on whole-genome resequencing of these accessions,we constructed the most comprehensive ramie genomic variation map to ***,demographic,and admixture signal detection analyses indicated that feral ramie is of exoferal or exo-endo origin,i.e.,descended from hybridization between domesticated ramie and the wild progenitor or ancient *** ramie has higher genetic diversity than wild or domesticated ramie,and genomic regions affected by natural selection during feralization differ from those under selection during *** analyses showed that feral and domesticated ramie have similar ecological niches that differ substantially from the niche of the wild progenitor,and three environmental variables are associated with habitat-specific adaptation in feral *** findings advance our understanding of feralization,providing a scientific basis for the excavation of new crop germplasm resources and offering novel insights into the evolution of feralization in nature.

Cognitive impairment associated with individual and joint exposure to PM_(2.5)constituents in a Chinese national cohort

Nationwide longitudinal evidence linking cognitive decline with exposure to fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))constituents remains scarce in *** constructing a dynamic cohort based on the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study,we aimed to assess individual and joint associations of PM_(2.5)constituents with cognitive function among middle-aged and older adults in *** mixed-effects models incorporated with quantile-based g-computation were applied to investigate individual and joint associations of long-term exposures to PM_(2.5)constituents with cognitive *** 13,507 respondents,we evaluated 38,950 follow-up records of cognitive function *** in global cognitive score associated with an interquartile range(IQR)increase in exposure were−1.477(95%CI:−1.722,−1.232)for nitrate,followed by−1.331(−1.529,−1.133)for ammonium,−1.033(−1.184,−0.883)for sulfate,−0.988(−1.144,−0.832)for organic matter and−0.822(−0.946,−0.699)for black *** IQR-equivalent increase in joint exposure to these PM_(2.5)constituents was associated with a decline of−1.353(−1.659,−1.048)in global cognitive ***,younger,and well-educated individuals were at greater vulnerability to cognitive impairment related to individual and joint exposure to PM_(2.5)*** study suggested that later-life exposures to PM_(2.5)constituents were associated with cognitive decline in middle-aged and older adults in China.
