In-situ construction of grass-like hybrid architecture responsible for extraordinary corrosion performance: Experimental and theoretical approach

Despite the engineering potential by the co-existence of inorganic and organic substances to protect vulnerable metallic materials from corrosive environments,both their interaction and in-situ formation mechanism to induce the nature-inspired composite remained less *** present work used three distinctive mercaptobenzazole(MB)compounds working as corrosion inhibitors,such as 2-mercaptobenzoxazole(MBO),2-mercaptobenzothiazole(MBT),and 2-mercaptobenzimidazole(MBI)in a bid to understand how the geometrical structure arising from O,S,and N atoms affected the interaction toward inorganic *** compounds that were used here to control the corrosion kinetics would be interacted readily with the pre-existing MgO layer fabricated by plasma *** phenomenon triggered the nucleation of the root network since MB compounds were seen to be adsorbed actively on the defective surface through the active sites in MB ***,the molecule with twin donor atoms adjacent to the mercapto-sites affected the facile growth of the grass-like structures with‘uniform’distribution via molecular self-assembly,which showed better corrosion performance than those with having dissimilar donor atoms with the inhibition efficiency(η)of 97%*** formation mechanism underlying nucleation and growth behavior of MB molecule was discussed concerning the theoretical calculation of density functional theory.

Secure Probabilistic Prediction of Dynamic Thermal Line Rating

Accurate short-term prediction of overhead line(OHL)transmission ampacity can directly affect the efficiency of power system operation and *** overcstiniation of the dynamic thermal line rating(DTLR)can lead to the lifetime degradation and failure of OHLs,safety hazards,*** paper presents a secure yet sharp probabilistic model for the hour-ahead prediction of the *** security of the proposed DTLR limits the frequency of DTLR prediction exceeding the actual *** model is based on an augmented deep learning architecture that makes use of a wide range of predictors,including historical climatology data and latent variables obtained during DTLR ***,by introducing a customized cost function,the deep neural network is trained to consider the DTLR security based on the required probability of exceedance while minimizing the deviations of the predicted DTLRs from the actual *** proposed probabilistic DTLR is developed and verified using recorded experimental *** simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed DTLR compared with the state-of-the-art prediction models using well-known evaluation metrics.

Development of anti-corrosive coating on AZ31 Mg alloy subjected to plasma electrolytic oxidation at sub-zero temperature

Plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)is a promising surface treatment to generate adherent and thick anti-corrosive coating on light-weight metals(Al,Mg,Ti,etc.)using an eco-friendly alkaline *** energy plasma,however,inevitably generates porous structures that limit their practical *** present study proposes a straight-forward simple method by utilizing sub-zero electrolyte(268 K)to alter the plasma characteristics during formation of the protective coating on AZ31 Mg alloy via PEO with a comparison to the electrolyte at room temperature(298 K).In refrigerated electrolyte,the formation of micro-defects is suppressed relatively at the expense of low coating growth,which is measured to be twice lower than that at 298 K due to the temperature-dependent soft plasma discharges contributing to the development of the present *** a consequence,corrosion resistance of the sample processed at 268 K is superior to that of 298K,implying that the effect of coating thickness is less dominant than that of *** phenomenon is interpreted in relation to the ionic movement and oxide solidification controlled by soft plasma discharges arising from the temperature gradient between electrolyte and surface of the substrate during PEO.

Strain-induced the dark current characteristics in InAs/GaSb type-Ⅱ superlattice for mid-wave detector

Type-Ⅱsuperlattice(T2SL)materials are the key element for infrared(IR)***,it is well known that the characteristics of the detectors with the T2SL layer are greatly affected by the strain developed during the growth process,which determines the performance of IR ***,great efforts have been made to properly control the strain effect and develop relevant analysis methods to evaluate the strain-induced dark current *** this work,we report the strain-induced dark current characteristics in InAs/GaSb T2SL MWIR *** overall strain of InAs/GaSb T2SL layer was analyzed by both high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD)and the dark current measured from the absorber layer at the elevated temperatures(≥110 K),where the major leakage current component is originated from the reduced minority carrier lifetime in the absorber *** findings indicate that minority carrier lifetime increases as the tensile strain on the InAs/GaSb T2SL is more compensated by the compressive strain through‘InSb-like’interface,which reduces the dark current density of the ***,tensile strain compensated devices exhibited the dark current density of less than 2×10^-5 A/cm^2 at 120 K,which is more than one order of magnitude lower value compared to that of the device without tensile strain relaxation.

A Study on Determining the Hydropower Potential of Çine Dam in Turkey

This study has been conducted with the purpose of determining the hydroelectric potential that can be utilized by Cine dam which will be constructed for irrigation, overflow control and for energy production purposes on the Cine stream (which is located as an important arm of Büyük Menderes River in Turkey). The study will also compare other research conducted by various organizations. In order to determine the hydroelectric energy potential, the SIMAHPP 4 (Simulate and Assess the Feasibility of Hydropower Projects) professional software has been utilized. It has been observed that the calculated hydroelectric potential conforms to energy potential calculated by other organizations such as DSI (State Hydraulic Works). Especially the turbine power, installed power, turbine design flow rate and annual energy production values in the studies have been realized with close values to the real ones. The power plant which is planned to have an average of natural streams of the past 43 years has been designed with an annual power production capacity of 210.87 GWh/year (without regulation ratio) and with installed power of 48,144 MW along with a design flow rate of 35 m3/s. As a result, since these water structures have high costs associated with them and also since they will have to be functional for many years, it will be beneficial to use various different computational methods.

DNA polymerase delta interacting protein 3 facilitates the activation and maintenance of DNA damage checkpoint in response to replication stress

Background:Replication stress response is crucial for the maintenance of a stable ***3(DNA polymerase delta interacting protein 3)was initially identified as one of the DNA polymeraseδ(Polδ)interacting proteins almost 20 years *** a variety of in vitro biochemical assays,we previously established that POLDIP3 is a key regulator of the enzymatic activity of Polδ.However,the in vivo function of POLDIP3 in DNA replication and DNA damage response has been ***:We first generated POLDIP3 knockout(ko)cells using the CRISPR/Cas9 *** then investigated its biological functions in vivo using a variety of biochemical and cell biology ***:We showed that although the POLDIP3-ko cells manifest no pronounced defect in global DNA synthesis under nonstress conditions,they are sensitive to a va-riety of replication fork ***,we found that POLDIP3 plays a crucial role in the activation and maintenance of the DNA damage checkpoint in response to exogenous as well as endogenous replication ***:Our results indicate that when the DNA replication fork is blocked,POLDIP3 can be recruited to the stalled replication fork and functions to bridge the early DNA damage checkpoint response and the later replication fork repair/restart.

We describe a gold standard corpus of protest events that comprise various local and international English language sources from various *** corpus contains document-,sentence-,and token-level *** corpus facilitates creating machine learning models that automatically classify news articles and extract protest event-related information,constructing knowledge bases that enable comparative social and political science *** each news source,the annotation starts with random samples of news articles and continues with samples drawn using active *** batch of samples is annotated by two social and political scientists,adjudicated by an annotation supervisor,and improved by identifying annotation errors *** found that the corpus possesses the variety and quality that are necessary to develop and benchmark text classification and event extraction systems in a cross-context setting,contributing to the generalizability and robustness of automated text processing *** corpus and the reported results will establish a common foundation in automated protest event collection studies,which is currently lacking in the literature.

This study presents a framework for assessing the cultural asset values of historic sites around *** studies are selected from provinces of Manisa,Turkey,namely,Carsi in Salihli with its new urban development and Pazaryeri in Gordes that is abandoned and currently considered as an archaeological *** review,archive research,historical research,comparative study,and site survey are carried out to evaluate the urban development of site neighborhoods with a retrospective *** approach presenting the effects of urban transformations on the cultural asset values of the historic neighborhood centers is *** cases reveal that the urban aesthetic is nearly all lost today,but the holiness of each site preserves its authenticity while the historic land use is *** preservation problems are lack of maintenance and abandonment due to disasters,illegal interve ntions,in appropriate development plans,and unsuitable restoration *** principles proposed for managing these historic environments consider their cultural asset values in relation to urban history,development of coherent strategies for their presentation,and participation of all actors to their preservation and development.

A Hypothetical Anti-Aging Mechanism of “yang-Invigorating” Chinese Tonic Herbs

Chinese tonic herbs are generally classified into yin and yang categories based on their health-promoting action. Emerging evidence has suggested that in addition to up-regulating mitochondrial functional status, yang tonic herbs also enhance cellular/mitochondrial antioxidant capacity, and may thus prevent age-related diseases and prolong the healthy part of lifespan (i.e. healthspan). The proposed biochemical mechanism underlying the antioxidant action of yang tonic herbs involves a sustained and low level of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production, which is secondary to the increased activity of the electron transport chain, with the possible involvement of mitochondrial uncoupling. “yang invigoration” improves antioxidant defense in the body in the long term and thereby offers a promising prospect for preventing or possibly delaying age-related diseases and the detrimental effects of aging.
