Subnanometer metal clusters play an increasingly important role in heterogeneous catalysis due to their high catalytic activity and *** this work,by means of the density functional theory(DFT) calculations,the catalytic activities of transition metal clusters with precise numbers of atoms supported on graphdiyne(TM_(1-4)@GDy,TM=V,Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,Cu,Ru,Rh,Pd,Ir,Pt) were investigated for oxygen evolution reactions(OER),oxygen reduction reactions(ORR) and hydrogen evolution reactions(HER).The computed results reveal that the Pd_(2),Pd_(4) and Pt_(1) anchored graphdiyne can serve as trifunctional catalysts for OER/ORR/HER with the overpotentials of 0.49/0.37/0.06,0.45/0.33/0.12 and 0.37/0.43/0.01 V,respectively,while Pd_(1) and Pt_(2)@graphdiyne can exhibit excellent catalytic performance for water splitting(OER/HER) with the overpotentials of 0.55/0.17 and 0.43/0.03 *** addition,Ni_(1) and Pd_(3) anchored GDy can perform as bifunctional catalysts for metal-air cells(OER/ORR) and fuels cells(ORR/HER) with the overpotentials of 0.34/0.32 and 0.42/0.04 V,***,by precisely controlling the numbers of atoms in clusters,the TM_(1-4) anchored graphdiyne can serve as promising multifunctional electrocatalysts for OER/ORR/HER,which may provide an instructive strategy to design catalysts for the energy conversation and storage devices.

The brain is one of the most important organs in a biological body which can only work in a relatively stable temperature range. However, many environmental factors in biosphere would cause cerebral temperature fluctuations. To sustain and regulate the brain temperature, many mechanisms of biological brain cooling have been evolved, including Selective Brain Cooling （SBC）, cooling through surface water evaporation, respiration, behavior response and using special anatomical ap- pendages. This article is dedicated to present a summarization and systematic interpretation on brain cooling strategies devel- oped in animals by classifying and comparatively analyzing each typical biological brain cooling mechanism from the per- spective of bio-heat transfer. Meanwhile, inspirations from such cooling in nature were proposed for developing advanced bionic engineering technologies especially with two focuses on therapeutic hypothermia and computer chip cooling areas. It is expected that many innovations can be achieved along this way to find out new cooling methodologies for a wide variety of industrial applications which will be highly efficient, energy saving, flexible or even intelligent.

Liquid metal based printed electronics was a newly emerging frontier in recent years. However, restricted by the single silver-white appearance of the liquid metal （LM）, the colors of currently available printed electronics were rather limited. Here, a new conceptual LM based colorful printed electronics was proposed where electrical wires and circuits with numerous colors can be made via a straightforward, efficient and accurate printing procedure. Firstly, the LM was printed on the substrate to construct a conductive wire. Then it was frozen to a solid. Subsequently, colorful pigments were coated on the originally printed liquid metal conductive wires, which finally were packaged with PDMS. Such multicolored conductive wire exhibits excellent conductivity, and good temperature resistance （do not fade at high temperature）. Further, the adhesion mechanism of the mineral pigments on the liquid metal layer was disclosed. And the pigment layer was discovered to well protect the LM from the outside environments, and enhance the durability of the LM conductive wire at the same time. These multicolored liquid metal wires take an aesthetic appearance, excellent printability, flexibility, large conductivity and stable performance, which would significantly enhance the sense of beanty and experience when compared to the conventional printed electronics.

In vivo 3D fluorescent image remains a technological barrier for biologists and clinical scientists although green fluorescent protein(GFP)imaging has long been performed rather well at cellular ***,robust enough portable devices are also challenging lab-on-a-chip advocators who wish their designs to be nurtured by the end *** work is dedicated to propose a conceptually innovated transparent soft PDMS avian eggshell to directly tackle the above two ***,an"egg-on-a-chip"scheme is originally developed and demonstrated by a newly developed PDMS"soft"process *** its ancestor–the conventional"lab-on-a-chip"(LOC)which is basically chemically based,the current"egg-on-a-chip",intrinsically inherited with biological natures,opens a way to integrate biological parts or whole system in a miniature sized *** biomimics system contains much condensed environmental evolutional tensor inside than those of the existing LOC compacted with artificial components which however are quite difficult to incorporate various life factors *** unique advantages,a series of transparent PDMS whole"eggshells"have been fabricated and applied to culture avian embryos up to 17.5 days and chimeric eggshells were engineered on normal *** addition,X-stage embryos were successfully initiated in such system and pre-chorioallantoic membrane was ***,limitation of the present process was interpreted and potential approach to improve it was *** both high optical transparency and engineering subtlety fully integrated together,the present method not only provides an ideal transparent imaging platform for studying functional embryo development including life mystery,but also promises a future strategy for"lab-on-an-egg"technology which may be important in a wide variety of either fundamental or practical areas.

Fate and degradation of nonylphenolic compounds during wastewater treatment process

In order to explore the biodegradation behavior of nonylphenolic compounds during wastewater treatment processing, two full-scale wastewater treatment plants were investigated and batch biodegradation experiments were conducted. The biodegradation pathways under the various operational conditions were identified from batch experiments： shortening of ethoxy-chains dominated under the anaerobic condition, whereas oxidizing of the terminal alcoholic group prevailed over the other routes under the aerobic condition. Results showed that the anoxic condition could accelerate the biodegradation rates of nonylphenolic compounds, but had no influence on the biodegradation pathway. The biodegradation rates of nonylphenol （NP） and short-chain nonylphenol polyethoxylates （NPnEOs, n： number of ethoxy units） increased from the anaerobic condition, then the anoxic, finally to the aerobic condition, while those of long-chain NPnEOs and nonylphenoxy carboxylates （NPECs） seemed similar under the various conditions. Under every operational condition, long-chain NPnEOs showed the highest biodegradation activity, followed by NPECs and short-chain NPnEOs, whereas NP showed relatively recalcitrant characteristics especially under the anaerobic condition. In addition, introducing sulfate and nitrate to the anaerobic condition could enhance the biodegradation of NP and short-chain NPnEOs by supplying more positive redox potentials.

Bioabsorbable magnesium alloys are widely studied for various implant applications, as they reduce the risks such as severe inflammatory response existing in permanent metallic implants. However, the over-fast corrosion rate of magnesium alloy is usually an obstacle in biomedical applications. Here we report a simple two-step reaction to introduce anticorrosive silane pre-treatment on MgZnyNd alloys before coating with poly （glycolide-co-lactide）（PLGA）. The first step is to immerse the NaOH-activated MgZnyNd with bistriethoxysilylethane （BTSE） to form a cross-linked silane coating layer with enhanced corrosion resistance; the second step involves immobilizing amine functional groups for forming hydrogen bond with outer PLGA coating by treating the BTSE-modified MgZnyNd with 3-amino-propyltrimethoxysilane （APTES）. We characterized the BTSE-APTES pre-treated PLGA coating on MgZnyNd by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FF-IR）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, static contact angle and Acid Orange 7 measurement. Nano-scratch test was to verify that the scratch resistance of the PLGA coating with BTSE-APTES pre-treatment was superior to direct PLGA coating. Stan-dard electrochemical measurements along with the long-term immersion results indicated that the BTSE- APTES pre-treatment rendered better in vitro degradation behavior. Cell adhesion and cell viability tests with both vascular smooth muscle cells （VSMC） and human umbilical vein endothelial cells （EA. hy926） demonstrated that BTSE-APTES pre-treated MgZnyNd substrate had significantly more beneficial effects. The favorable anti-corrosion behavior and biocompatibility of BTSE-APTES pre-treated PLGA coatings on MgZnyNd alloy suggest that the novel two-step silanization procedure may have the great potential to enhance the performance of the magnesium-based biomaterials and provide a valid solution for the conversion modification of cardiovascular implants, taking the

A composite liquid metal marble made of metal droplet coated with water film was proposed and its impact dynamics phenomenon was disclosed. After encapsulating the liquid metal into water droplets, the fabricated liquid marble successfully avoided being oxygenized by the metal fluid and thus significantly improved its many physical capabilities such as surface tension modification and shape control. The striking behaviors of the composite liquid metal marbles on a substrate at room temperature were experimentally inves- tigated in a high speed imaging way. It was disclosed that such marbles could disintegrate, merge, and even rebound when impacting the substrate, unlike the existing dynamic fluidic behaviors of liquid marble or metal droplet. The mechanisms lying behind these features were preliminarily interpreted. This fundamental finding raised profound multiphase fluid mechanics for understanding the complex liquid composite which was also critical for a variety of practical applications such as liquid metal jet cooling, inkjet printed electronics, 3D printing or metal particle fabrication etc.

With the rapid development of deep space exploration and commercial flight, a series of tough scientific and technological challenges were raised, which urgently require ever advanced technologies to tackle with. Recently, liquid metals, as a kind of newly emerging functional material, are attracting various attention and many breakthroughs have been made on earth. Such a scientific trend also suggests promising approaches for solving those extreme challenges in space environment. To fulfill the increasing needs thus involved, this article is dedicated to systematically introducing liquid metal material and its related disciplines into space science and technology. Firstly, existing application of liquid metal cooling for space nuclear power was summarized. Then, some potential space practices were tentatively put forward, such as liquid metal thermal interface medium,liquid metal phase change material, liquid metal convection cooling, metal alloy thermal storage, liquid metal electromagnetic shielding and liquid metal electronic printing. Fundamental as well as practical issues that would differ with earth were interpreted. Finally, potential liquid metal space experiments were proposed to investigate the liquid metal hydrodynamic characteristic, wettability and phase change mechanism in space physical environment. Overall, liquid metal enabled space science and technology investigation will not only help efficiently solve the current and future space technological problems, but also aid to stimulate the advancement of liquid metal space material science.

Staggered-grid finite-difference(SGFD)schemes have been widely used in acoustic wave modeling for geophysical *** improved methods are proposed to enhance the accuracy of numerical ***,these methods are inevitably limited by the maximum Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy(CFL)numbers,making them unstable when modeling with large time sampling intervals or small grid *** solve this problem,we extend a stable SGFD scheme by controlling SGFD dispersion relations and maximizing the maximum CFL ***,to improve modeling stability,we minimize the error between the FD dispersion relation and the exact relation in the given wave-number region,and make the FD dispersion approach a given function outside the given wave-number area,thus breaking the conventional limits of the maximum CFL ***,to obtain high modeling accuracy,we use the SGFD scheme based on the Remez algorithm to compute the FD *** addition,the hybrid absorbing boundary condition is adopted to suppress boundary reflections and we find a suitable weighting coefficient for the proposed *** derivation and numerical modeling demonstrate that the proposed scheme can maintain high accuracy in the modeling process and the value of the maximum CFL number of the proposed scheme can exceed that of the conventional SGFD scheme when adopting a small maximum effective wavenumber,indicating that the proposed scheme improves stability during the modeling.

On the basis of the alloying theory of bonding assistant coat （BAC）, taking into account of the interaction of alloy elements, the regressive equation, which relates the wetting ability of bonding assistant coat with the contents of Mn, Ni, Si, Sn, and B, was es- tablished by using quadratic regression orthogonal design of five factors. The influence of elements and their interaction on the wetting ability was analyzed. The ranges of alloy elements were optimized. The melting point of bonding assistant coat was measured by using differential thermal analysis. The results show that the interactions of Ni and Mn, Ni, and Sn can increase the wetting ability obviously and the melting point of bonding assistant coat has been decreased.
