The effect of the density difference between supercritical CO_(2) and supercritical CH_(4) on their adsorption capacities: An experimental study on anthracite in the Qinshui Basin

Deep unmineable coals are considered as economic and effective geological media for CO_(2) storage and CO_(2) enhanced coalbed methane(CO_(2)-ECBM) recovery is the key technology to realize CO_(2) geological sequestration in coals. Anthracite samples were collected from the Qinshui Basin and subjected to mercury intrusion porosimetry, low-pressure CO_(2) adsorption, and high-pressure CH_(4)/CO_(2) isothermal adsorption experiments. The average number of layers of adsorbed molecules(ANLAM) and the CH_(4)/CO_(2) absolute adsorption amounts and their ratio at experimental temperatures and pressures were calculated. Based on a comparison of the density of supercritical CO_(2) and supercritical CH_(4), it is proposed that the higher adsorption capacity of supercritical CO_(2) over supercritical CH_(4) is the result of their density differences at the same temperature. Lastly, the optimal depth for CO_(2)-ECBM in the Qinshui Basin is recommended. The results show that:(1) the adsorption capacity and the ANLAM of CO_(2) are about twice that of CH_(4) on SH-3 anthracite. The effect of pressure on the CO_(2)/CH_(4) absolute adsorption ratio decreases with the increase of pressure and tends to be consistent.(2) A parameter(the density ratio between gas free and adsorbed phase(DRFA)) is proposed to assess the absolute adsorption amount according to the supercritical CO_(2)/CH_(4) attributes. The DRFA of CO_(2) and CH_(4) both show a highly positive correlation with their absolute adsorption amounts, and therefore, the higher DRFA of CO_(2) is the significant cause of its higher adsorption capacity over CH_(4) under the same temperature and pressure.(3) CO_(2) adsorption on coal shows micropore filling with multilayer adsorption in the macro-mesopore, while methane exhibits monolayer surface coverage.(4) Based on the ideal CO_(2)/CH_(4) competitive adsorption ratio, CO_(2) storage capacity, and permeability variation with depth, it is recommended that the optimal depth for CO_(

The demanganization reaction kinetics of carbon-saturated liquid iron with an eight-component slag consisting of CaO–SiO2–MgO–FeO–MnO–Al2O3–TiO2–CaF2 was investigated at 1553, 1623, and 1673 K in this study. The rate-controlling step（RCS） for the demanganization reaction with regard to the hot metal pretreatment conditions was studied via kinetics analysis based on the fundamental equation of heterogeneous reaction kinetics. From the temperature dependence of the mass transfer coefficient of a transition-metal oxide（MnO）, the apparent activation energy of the demanganization reaction was estimated to be 189.46 kJ·mol^–1 in the current study, which indicated that the mass transfer of MnO in the molten slag controlled the overall rate of the demanganization reaction. The calculated apparent activation energy was slightly lower than the values reported in the literature for mass transfer in a slag phase. This difference was attributed to an increase in the ＂specific reaction interface＂（SRI） value, either as a result of turbulence at the reaction interface or a decrease of the absolute amount of slag phase during sampling, and to the addition of calcium fluoride to the slag.

Although anti-cancer nanotherapeutics have made breakthroughs,many remain clinically unsatisfactory due to limited delivery efficiency and complicated biological ***,we prepared charge-reversible crosslinked nanoparticles(PDC NPs)by supramolecular self-assembly of pro-apoptotic peptides and photosensitizers,followed by crosslinking the self-assemblies with polyethylene glycol to impart tumor microenvironment responsiveness and *** resultant PDC NPs have a high drug loading of 68.3%,substantially exceeding that of 10%–15%in conventional drug delivery *** NPs can overcome the delivery hurdles to significantly improve the tumor accumulation and endocytosis of payloads by surface charge reversal and responsive crosslinking ***-apoptotic peptides target the mitochondrial membranes and block the respiratory effect to reduce local oxygen consumption,which extensively augments oxygen-dependent photodynamic therapy(PDT).The photosensitizers around mitochondria increased along with the peptides,allowing PDT to work with pro-apoptotic peptides synergistically to induce tumor cell death by mitochondria-dependent apoptotic *** strategy would provide a valuable reference for improving the delivery efficiency of hydrophilic peptides and developing mitochondrial-targeting cancer therapies.

Activated nucleotide binding to the oligonucleotide receptor protein 3（NLRP3） inflammasome is possibly involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer＇s disease through oxidative stress and neurogenic inflammation. Low expression of the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3（STAT3） gene may promote the occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases to some extent. To clarify the roles of the NLRP3 inflammasome and STAT3 expression in oxidative stress,（1） SHSy5 y cells were incubated with 1 mM H2 O2 to induce oxidative stress injury, and the expression of human-cell-specific signal transduction, STAT3-shRNA silencing signal transduction and STAT3 were detected. Cells were pretreated with Ca2＋ chelator BAPATA-AM（0.1 mM） for 30 minutes as a control.（2） Western blot assay was used to analyze the expression of caspase-1, NLRP3, signal transduction and STAT3. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to analyze interleukin-1β levels. Flow cytometry was carried out to calculate the number of apoptotic cells. We found that H2 O2 treatment activated NLRP3 inflammasomes and decreased phosphorylation of signal transduction and STAT3 serine 727. BAPTA-AM pretreatment abolished the H2 O2-induced activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes, caspase-1 expression, interleukin-1β expression and apoptosis in SHSy5 y cells, and had no effect in cells with downregulated STAT3 expression by RNAi. The findings suggest that downregulation of signal transduction and STAT3 expression may enhance the oxidative stress mediated by NLRP3, which may not depend on the Ca2^＋ signaling pathway.

Influence of Calcareous Deposit on Corrosion Behavior of Q235 Carbon Steel with Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria

Cathodic protection is a very effective method to protect metals, which can form calcareous deposits on metal surface. Research on the interrelationship between fouling organism and calcareous deposits is very important but very limited, especially sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB). SRB is a kind of very important fouling organism that causes microbial corrosion of metals. A study of the influence of calcareous deposit on corrosion behavior of Q235 carbon steel in SRB-containing culture medium was carried out using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and surface spectroscopy(EDS). The calcareous deposit was formed with good crystallinity and smooth surface under the gradient current density of -30 μA cm^(-2) in natural seawater for 72 h. Our results can help elucidate the formation of calcareous deposits and reveal the interrelationship between SRB and calcareous deposits under cathodic protection. The results indicate that the corrosion tendency of carbon steel was obviously affected by Sulfate-reducing Bacteria(SRB) metabolic activity and the calcareous deposit formed on the surface of carbon steel under cathodic protection was favourable to reduce the corrosion rate. Calcareous deposits can promote bacterial adhesion before biofilm formation. The results revealed the interaction between biofouling and calcareous deposits, and the anti-corrosion ability was enhanced by a kind of inorganic and organic composite membranes formed by biofilm and calcareous deposits.

Cetuximab Combination with Chemotherapy in Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Objective： To observe the efficacy and safety of cetuximab combined with chemotherapy in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer （NSCLC）, and to investigate the association of status of K-RAS gene mutation and epidermal growth factor receptor （EGFR） genotype with clinical outcome. Methods： Between Jan. 2006 and Sep. 2009, nineteen patients with advanced NSCLC received cetuximab （〉4 weeks） combined with chemotherapy in Department of Thoracic Oncology at Beijing Cancer Hospital. Response, survival and toxicity were retrospectively assessed, epidermal growth factor receptor （EGFR） protein expression was evaluated by ELISA Kit. The status of K-RAS gene mutation was tested by PCR-RFLP and EGFR gene amplification was measured by EGFR fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH）. Results： Partial response（PR） was observed in 26.3%（5/19） of the patients and stable disease（SD） in 52.6%（10/19）. Median progression free survival（PFS） was 6 months （95% CI： 3.6-8.4）. Median overall survival （MST） and 1-year survival rate（SR） were 10.6 months （95% CI： 6.6-14.6） and 47.6%, respectively. Mild or moderate skin rash was the most common toxicity related with cetuximab. K-RAS gene mutation, EGFR protein level and amplification have little correlation with prognosis. Conclusion： Cetuximab combined with chemotherapy was tolerable and the skin rash related with cetuximab was mild to moderate. Cetuximab may prolong survival of the patients who failed to previous chemotherapy.
