Nanofiltration for drinking water treatment: a review

In recent decades,nanofiltration(NF)is considered as a promising separation technique to produce drinking water from different types of water *** this paper,we comprehensively reviewed the progress of NFbased drinking water treatment,through summarizing the development of materials/fabrication and applications of NF membranes in various scenarios including surface water treatment,groundwater treatment,water reuse,brackish water treatment,and point of use *** not only summarized the removal of target major pollutants(e.g.,hardness,pathogen,and natural organic matter),but also paid attention to the removal of micropollutants of major concern(e.g.,disinfection byproducts,per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances,and arsenic).We highlighted that,for different applications,fit-for-purpose design is needed to improve the separation capability for target compounds of NF membranes in addition to their removal of *** and perspectives on membrane fouling control,chlorine resistance,integrity,and selectivity are also discussed to provide potential insights for future development of high-efficiency NF membranes for stable and reliable drinking water treatment.

Moisture Analysis of a Squall Line Case Based on Precipitable Water Vapor Data from a Ground-Based GPS Network in the yangtze River Delta

A squall line swept eastward across the area of the yangtze River Delta and produced gusty winds and heavy rain from the afternoon to the evening of 24 August 2002. In this papers the roles of moisture in the genesis and development of the squall line were studied. Based on the precipitable water vapor （PWV） data from a ground-based GPS network over the yangtze River Delta in China, plus data from a Pennsylvania State University/National Atmospheric Center （PSU/NCAR） mesoscale model （MM5） simulation, initialized by three-dimensional variational （3D-VAR） assimilation of the PWV data, some interesting features are revealed. During the 12 hours prior to the squall line arriving in the Shanghai area, a significant increase in PWV indicates a favorable moist environment for a squall line to develop. The vertical profile of the moisture illustrates that it mainly increased in the middle levels of the troposphere, and not at the surface. Temporal variation in PWV is a better precursor for squall line development than other surface meteorological parameters. The characteristics of the horizontal distribution of PWV not only indicated a favorable moist environment, but also evolved a cyclonic wind field for a squall line genesis and development. The ＂＋2 mm＂ contours of the three-hourly PWV variation can be used successfully to predict the location of the squall line two hours later.

“How Do We Actually Do Convergence”for Disaster Resilience?Cases from Australia and the United States

In recent years there has been an increasing emphasis on achieving convergence in disaster research,policy,and programs to reduce disaster losses and enhance social ***,there remain considerable gaps in understanding"how do we actually do convergence?"In this article,we present three case studies from across geographies—New South Wales in Australia,and North Carolina and Oregon in the United States;and sectors of work—community,environmental,and urban resilience,to critically examine what convergence entails and how it can enable diverse disciplines,people,and institutions to reduce vulnerability to systemic risks in the twenty-first *** identify key successes,challenges,and barriers to *** build on current discussions around the need for convergence research to be problem-focused and solutions-based,by also considering the need to approach convergence as ethic,method,and *** reflect on how convergence can be approached as an ethic that motivates a higher order alignment on"why"we come together;as a method that foregrounds"how"we come together in inclusive ways;and as an outcome that highlights"what"must be done to successfully translate research findings into the policy and public domains.

SUPERPLASTICITy OF A Ni-28.5Al-20.4Fe INTERMETALLIC ALLOy

Our previous investigation examined the superplastic behavior of an extruded Ni-28.5Al-20.4Fe alloy. Its tensile properties were determined at temperature from 1123 K to 1323 K and initial strain rates from 1.04×10-2s-1 to 1.04×10-4s-1. A maximum elongation of 233% was obtained at 1123 K and a strain rate of 5.2×10-4s-1. Furthermore, microstructural features, such as decrease in the average grain size after deformation at 850 °C and 980 °C, the presence of many dislocation-free grains adjacent to grains with a high dislocation density, indicate that dynamic recrystallization has occurred as an efficient accommodation mechanism. SEM examination of the fracture sample after superplastic deformation reveals many voids on the fracture surface. By correlating with the result of TEM observation, it is suggested that the superplastic deformation in this alloy should be controlled by a grain boundary sliding-based mechanism accommodated by the movement of dislocation and dynamic recrystallization.

Effect of synthetic fibers on the mechanical performance of asphalt mixture:A review

Numerous studies showed that synthetic fibers are effective for reinforcing the mechanical performance of the asphalt mixture due to their high strength properties,ductility,and durability *** this paper,the objective is to present a review of the reinforcement effect of synthetic fiber on the mechanical performance of the asphalt *** paper reviews the relevant literature on the characterizations and applications of synthetic fibers to improve different mechanical properties of asphalt mixes,which can provide a reference for the applications and development of synthetic fibers in asphalt *** characteristics of common synthetic fibers are introduced and the utilization of synthetic fibers in asphalt mixture is *** surface treatment methods for fiber are reviewed and it is found that surface treatment can improve the performance of the synthetic fibers in asphalt mixtures,especially the chemical surface treatment *** influence of synthetic fiber addition on the mechanical properties of the asphalt concrete such as rutting resistance,tensile strength,water stability performance,and cracking resistance are then *** research results show that aramid,glass,and polyester fibers improve the fatigue cracking resistance of asphalt *** fibers,polyamide fibers,and carbon fibers are used to improve resistance to the permanent deformation of asphalt pavement.

New existence of multi-spike solutions for the fractional Schrodinger equations

We consider the following fractional Schr¨odinger equation:(-Δ)^(s)u+V(y)u=u^(p);u>0 in R^(N);(0.1)where s ∈(0,1),1y)is a positive potential function and satisfies some expansion condition at *** the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction framework,we construct two kinds of multi-spike solutions for(0.1).The first k-spike solution uk is concentrated at the vertices of the regular k-polygon in the(y1;y2)-plane with k and the radius large *** we show that uk is non-degenerate in our special symmetric workspace,and glue it with an n-spike solution,whose centers lie in another circle in the(y3;y4)-plane,to construct infinitely many multi-spike solutions of new *** nonlocal property of(-Δ)^(s)is in sharp contrast to the classical Schr¨odinger equations.A striking difference is that although the nonlinear exponent in(0.1)is Sobolev-subcritical,the algebraic(not exponential)decay at infinity of the ground states makes the estimates more subtle and difficult to ***,due to the non-locality of the fractional operator,we cannot establish the local Pohozaev identities for the solution u directly,but we address its corresponding harmonic extension at the same ***,to construct new solutions we need pointwise estimates of new approximate *** this end,we introduce a special weighted norm,and give the proof in quite a different way.

Rational design of AgGaS/ZnS/ZnS quantum dots with a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield via double shelling scheme

In this study,a two-step method was used to synthesize highly luminescent AgGaS/ZnS/ZnS quantum dots(QDs).In the first step,an inner ZnS shell was formed via a one-pot method,which resulted in a smaller lattice mismatch between the AgGaS core and the outer ZnS shell,thereby facilitating the formation of a thick outer *** the two-step shelling process,the synthesized AgGaS/ZnS/ZnS QDs showed an excellent photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQy)of 96.4%with a peak wavelength of 508 nm,repre-senting the highest PLQy reported thus far for AgGaS ***,the effect of halogen ions in Zn precursors on the shelling process was *** was proposed that the capacity of halogen ions to coordinate with the QDs influenced the balance between Zn cation diffusion and ZnS shelling ***,the ZnS shelling reaction was dominant when ZnCl_(2)was employed,while Zn cation diffusion was the dominant process under the I^(−)-rich *** work provides insights into the interfacial restructuring during the ZnS shelling and offers a clear map for the tailored synthesis of core/shell QDs.

Simple and Ultrahigh Efficient Superhydrophilic Polydopamine-coated TiO_(2) Cotton for Oil-water Separation

Oil–water mixing has brought many problems to a society, and it is of great significance to develop a simple, convenient, efficient, and durable separation material to solve the problem of oil–water mixing. In this paper, modified cottons were successfully prepared using polydopamine as the in situ mineralization site of TiO_(2) nanoparticles combined with synergistic crosslinking with KH550. A large number of hydrophilic groups endowed the cotton with superhydrophilic ability, which greatly shortened its water spreading time. The prepared modified cotton could be successfully separated from oil and water, and still had a separation efficiency of 99.999% after 50 cycles. In addition, after 24 h immersion in 1 M HCl, NaOH, and NaCl solutions and 50 abrasion experiments, the modified cotton showed excellent oil–water separation ability, and the separation efficiency was above 99.990%. Successfully provided a simple preparation method to prepare high-efficiency and clean cottons for oil–water separation.
