Cost effectiveness of nonpharmacological prevention programs for diabetes:A systematic review of trial-based studies

Trial-based economic value of prevention programs for diabetes is *** aimed to review the cost-effectiveness of nonpharmacological interventions to prevent type-2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)for high-risk *** electronic databases were searched up to March *** assessing both the cost and health outcomes of nonpharmacological interventions for people at high-risk of T2DM were *** quality of the study was assessed by the Consolidated health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards 2022 *** primary outcome for synthesis was incremental cost-effectiveness ratios(ICER)for quality-adjusted life years(QALys),and costs were standardized in 2022 US *** synthesis was performed,considering different types and delivery methods of *** studies included five based on the US diabetes prevention program(DPP),six on non-DPP-based lifestyle interventions,four on health education,and one on screening plus lifestyle *** with usual care,lifestyle interventions showed higher potential of cost-effectiveness than educational *** lifestyle interventions,DPP-based programs were less cost-effective(median of ICERs:$27,077/QALy)than non-DPP-based programs(median of ICERs:$1395/QALy)from healthcare perspectives,but with larger decreases in diabetes ***,the cost-effectiveness of interventions was more possibly realized through the combination of different delivery *** interventions to prevent T2DM in high-risk populations are both cost-effective and feasible in various ***,economic evidence from low-and middle-income countries is still lacking,and interventions delivered by trained laypersons and combined with peer support sessions or mobile technologies could be potentially a cost-effective solution in such settings with limited resources.

Dear Editor,We present a case of acute Bacillus cereus(***)endophthalmitis in a patient with an intraocular perforation injury combined with occult intravitreal cilium *** endophthalmitis is a severe intraocular infection commonly caused by post-traumatic *** often leads to significant vision loss or even eye loss within 12-48h[1].The presence of an intraocular foreign body(IOFB)increases the risk of infection,while early surgical removal of IOFBs can prevent endophthalmitis,some IOFBs are difficult to detect *** Medical Ethics Review Board of West China hospital of Sichuan University waived application for a clinical study because this was a retrospective report of a single patient based on imaging and because no human experimentation was *** patient provided written informed consent to use the imaging data for publication.

Phosphorylated cellulose nanofibers establishing reliable ion-sieving barriers for durable lithium-sulfur batteries

The shuttle effect is among the most characteristic and formidable challenges in the pursuit of high-performance lithium-sulfur(Li-S)***,phosphorylated cellulose nanofibers(pCNF)are intentionally engineered to establish an ion-sieving barrier against polysulfide shuttling and thereby improve battery *** phosphorylation,involving the grafting of phosphate groups onto the cellulose backbone,imparts an exceptional electronegativity that repels the polysulfide anions from penetrating through the ***,the electrolyte wettability and Li^(+)transfer can be significantly promoted by the polar nature of pCNF and the facile Li^(+)*** such,rational ion management is realized,contributing to enhanced reversibility in both sulfur and lithium *** a result,Li-S cells equipped with the self-standing pCNF separator demonstrate outstanding long-term cyclability with a minimum fading rate of 0.013%per cycle over 1000 cycles at 1 C,and a decent areal capacity of 5.37 mA h cm^(-2) even under elevated sulfur loading of 5.0 mg cm^(-2) and limited electrolyte of 6.0 mL g^(-1).This work provides a facile and effective pathway toward the well-tamed shuttle effect and highly durable Li-S batteries.

Nanoconfinement-induced water molecules and hydrogen molecules transport behaviors in ball-in-ball structure photocatalysts to improve hydrogen evolution

The diffusion,adsorption/desorption behaviors of water molecules and hydrogen molecules are of great importance in heterogeneous photocatalytic hydrogen *** the study of structure-property-performance relationships,nanoconfined space provides an ideal platform to promote mass diffusion and transfer due to their extraordinary properties that are different from the bulk ***,we designed and prepared a nanoconfined CdS@SiO_(2)-Nh_(2) nanoreactor,whose shell is composed of amino-functionalized silica nanochannels,and encapsulates spherical CdS as a photocatalyst *** and simulated results reveal that the amino-functionalized nanochannels promote water molecules’and hydrogen molecules’directional diffusion and *** molecules are enriched in the nanocavity between the core and the shell,and promote the interfacial photocatalytic *** a result,the maximized water enrichment and minimized hydrogen-occupied active sites enable photocatalyst with optimized mass transfer kinetics and localization electron distribution on the CdS surface,leading to superior hydrogen production performance with activity as high as 37.1 mmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1).

Molecular investigation into the transformation of recalcitrant dissolved organic sulfur in refinery sour water during stripping process

Refinery sour water primarily originates from the tops of towers in various units and coker condensate,and cannot be discharged directly to a wastewater treatment plant due to high levels of chemical oxygen demand(COD)and organic sulfur *** after the recovery of h_(2)S from the sour water by the stripping process,the effluent still contains a high concentration of dissolved organic sulfur(DOS),which can have a huge bad *** chemical composition of dissolved organic matter(DOM)in refinery wastewater has been extensively studied,the investigation of recalcitrant DOS from sour waters remains *** the present study,chemical composition of sour water DOMs(especially DOS)was investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy(excitation-emission matrix,EEM)and mass spectrometry,including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)and high-resolution Orbitrap *** GC-MS and EEM results showed that volatile and low-aromaticity compounds were effectively removed during the stripping process,while compounds with high hydrophilicity and humification degree were found to be more *** Orbitrap MS results showed that weak-polar oxygenated sulfur compounds were easier to be removed than oxygenated ***,the effluent still contained significant amounts of sulfur-containing compounds with multiple sulfur atoms,particularly in the form of highly unsaturated and aromatic *** Orbitrap MS/MS results of ChOS-containing compounds from the effluent indicate that the sulfur atoms may exist as sulfonates,disulfide bonds,*** the composition and structure of sour water DOS is crucial for the development of effective treatment processes that can target polysulfide compounds and minimize their impact on the environment.

Stress relaxation properties of calcium silicate hydrate:a molecular dynamics study

The time-dependent viscoelastic response of cement-based materials to applied deformation is far from fully understood at the atomic *** silicate hydrate(C-S-h),the main hydration product of Portland cement,is responsible for the viscoelastic mechanism of cement-based *** this study,a molecular model of C-S-h was developed to explain the stress relaxation characteristics of C-S-h at different initial deformation states,Ca/Si ratios,temperatures,and water contents,which cannot be accessed *** stress relaxation of C-S-h occurs regardless of whether it is subjected to initial shear,tensile,or compressive deformation,and shows a heterogeneous *** plays a crucial role in the stress relaxation process.A large Ca/Si ratio and high temperature reduce the cohesion between the calcium-silicate layer and the interlayer region,and the viscosity of the interlayer region,thereby accelerating the stress relaxation of *** effect of the hydrogen bond network and the morphology of C-S-h on the evolution of the stress relaxation characteristics of C-S-h at different water contents was elucidated by nonaffine mean squared *** results shed light on the stress relaxation characteristics of C-S-h from a microscopic perspective,bridging the gap between the microscopic phenomena and the underlying atomic-level mechanisms.

A Scalable Pillar Layered Metal-Organic Framework for Natural Gas Purification

One-step harvest of high-purity methane(Ch_(4))from ternary propane/ethane/methane(C_(3)h_(8)/C_(2)h_(6)/Ch_(4))mixtures remains a desirable yet challenging goal for natural gas ***,adsorbents either suffer from high capacity and selectivity,or are caught in a dilemma of scalable ***,we demonstrate a scalable pillar layered metal-organic framework Ni-MOF for highly efficient one-step Ch_(4)***-MOF exhibits high C_(2)h_(6)and C_(3)h_(8)uptakes of 83.3 and 86.1 cm^(3)/g at 298 K and 100 kPa and remarkable C_(2)h_(6)/Ch_(4)(50/50,volume ratio,21.5)and C_(3)h_(8)/Ch_(4)(50/50,volume ratio,212.0)***,high C_(2)h_(6)(42.2 cm^(3)/g at 10 kPa)and C_(3)h_(8)(64.7 cm^(3)/g at 5 kPa)capacities in the low-pressure region at 298 K were realized on Ni-MOF,suggesting the strong affinities of Ni-MOF towards C_(2)h_(6)and C_(3)h_(8).Furthermore,the dynamic breakthrough experiments revealed that purifying Ch_(4)from natural gas in one-step can be achieved in Ni-MOF with high-purity(>99.8%)and productivity(346.0 cm^(3)/g).Most significantly,the production of Ni-MOF can be scalably synthesized at room temperature,rendering it promising potential for industrial *** combined advantages of exceptional separation performance,scalability,and cycle stability of Ni-MOF pave the way for one-step Ch_(4)purification from natural gas.
