The sy.ergy.of single atoms （SAs） and nanoparticles （NPs） has demonstrated great potential in promoting the electrocataly.ic carbon dioxide reduction reaction （CO2RR）;however,the rationalization of the SAs/NPs proportion remains one challenge for the cataly.t ***,a Ni2+-loaded porous poly.ionic liquids）(PIL) precursor sy.thesized through the free radical self-poly.erization of the ionic liquid monomer,1-ally.-3-viny.imidazolium chloride,was py.oly.ed to prepare the Ni,N co-doped carbon materials,in which the proportion of Ni SAs and NPs could be facilely.modulated by.controlling the annealing *** cataly.t Ni-NC-1000 with a moderate proportion of Ni SAs and NPs exhibited high efficiency.in the electrocataly.ic conversion of CO2into *** Ni K-edge X-ray.absorption near-edge structure （XANES） spectra and theoretical calculations were conducted to gain insight into the sy.ergy.of Ni SAs and *** charge transfer from Ni NPs to the surrounding carbon lay.r and then to the Ni SAs resulted in the electron-enriched Ni SAs active *** the electroreduction of CO2,the coexistence of Ni SAs and NPs strengthened the CO2activation and the affinity.towards the key.intermediate of*COOH,lowering the free energy.for the potential-determining*CO2→*COOH step,and therefore promoted the cataly.is efficiency.

Aligning enhanced feature representation for generalized zero-shot learning

Abstract Constructing an effective common latent embedding by.aligning the latent spaces of cross-modal variational autoencoders （VAEs） is a popular strategy.for generalized zero-shot learning （GZSL）.However,due to the lack of fine-grained instance-wise annotations,existing VAE methods can easily.suffer from the posterior collapse *** this paper,we propose an innovative asy.metric VAE network by.aligning enhanced feature representation （AEFR） for *** from general VAE structures,we designed two asy.metric encoders for visual and semantic observations and one decoder for visual ***,we propose a simple y.t effective gated attention mechanism （GAM） in the visual encoder for enhancing the information interaction between observations and latent variables,alleviating the possible posterior collapse problem *** addition,we propose a novel distributional decoupling-based contrastive learning （D2-CL） to guide learning classification-relevant information while aligning the representations at the taxonomy.level in the latent representation *** experiments on publicly.available datasets demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of our *** source code is available at https://***/seey.urmind/AEFR.

Unveiling an ancient whole-genome duplication event in Stentor,the model unicellular eukary.tes

Whole-genome duplication(WGD) events are widespread across eukary.tes and have play.d a significant role in moulding the genetic architectures of diverse organisms. In the present study. the newly.sequenced genome of a giant ciliated protist, Stentor roeselii, provides an opportunity.for the analy.is of the collinearity.and retention of reciprocal best-hit genes between two Stentor species. As a main result, we have unveiled a previously.undetected ancient WGD event shaping the genome of its congener, Stentor coeruleus, a model protist used in cy.ological and evolutionary.studies. Genomes of two congeners, S. coeruleus and S. roeselii, are compared and analy.ed, revealing that:(i)the former exhibits a much higher retention rate of colinear-gene pairs(28%) than does S. roeselii, and in S. coeruleus, 75% of genes that have a RBH hit in S. roeselii, have paralogs with high amino-acid identity. consistent with a WGD event in the lineage leading to S. coeruleus;(ii) the S. roeselii genome possesses extremely.short intergenic regions, imply.ng that the lengths of intergenic regions are under strong selection;(iii) the unique characteristics of introns may.have been shaped in the common ancestor of heterotrichs;(iv) gene families that play.a role in activities of multiple protein kinases and voltage-gated ion channels expanded rapidly.in the ancestor of both taxa, possibly.relating to the remarkable regenerative ability.in Stentor. This study.offers new insights into the evolutionary.dy.amics of ciliate genomes,with implications for understanding of the processes underly.ng the evolution of genomic complexity.

Sleep disturbances are among the most prevalent neuropsy.hiatric sy.ptoms in individuals who have recovered from severe acute respiratory.sy.drome coronavirus 2 *** studies have demonstrated abnormal brain structures in patients with sleep disturbances who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,neuroimaging studies on sleep disturbances caused by.COVID-19 are scarce,and existing studies have primarily.focused on the long-term effects of the virus,with minimal acute phase *** a result,little is known about the pathophy.iology.of sleep disturbances in the acute phase of *** address this issue,we designed a longitudinal study.to investigate whether alterations in brain structure occur during the acute phase of infection,and verified the results using 3-month follow-up data.A total of 26 COVID-19 patients with sleep disturbances(aged 51.5±13.57 y.ars,8 women and 18 men),27 COVID-19 patients without sleep disturbances(aged 47.33±15.98 y.ars,9 women and 18 men),and 31 age-and gender-matched healthy.controls(aged 49.19±17.51 y.ars,9 women and 22 men)were included in this *** COVID-19 patients with sleep disturbances were included in a longitudinal *** found that COVID-19 patients with sleep disturbances exhibited brain structural changes in almost all brain *** cortical thicknesses of the left pars opercularis and left precuneus were significantly.negatively.correlated with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality.Index ***,we observed changes in the volume of the hippocampus and its subfield regions in COVID-19 patients compared with the healthy.*** 3-month follow-up data revealed indices of altered cerebral structure(cortical thickness,cortical grey.matter volume,and cortical surface area)in the frontal-parietal cortex compared with the baseline in COVID-19 patients with sleep *** findings indicate that the sleep disturbances patients had altered morphology.in the cortical an
