ELABELA-derived peptide ELA13 attenuates kidney fibrosis by inhibiting the Smad and ERK signaling pathways

Kidney fibrosis is an inevitable result of various chronic kidney diseases(CKDs)and significantly contributes to end-stage renal ***,there is no specific treatment available for renal ***13(amino acid sequence:RRCMPLHSRVPFP)is a conserved region of ELABELA in all vertebrates;however,its biological activity has been very little *** the present study,we evaluated the therapeutic effect of ELA13 on transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)-treated NRK-52E cells and unilateral ureteral occlusion(UUO)*** results demonstrated that ELA13 could improve renal function by reducing creatinine and urea nitrogen content in serum,and reduce the expression of fibrosis biomarkers confirmed by Masson staining,immunohistochemistry,real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR),and western *** biomarkers were increased after UUO and decreased by administration of ***,we found that the levels of essential molecules in the mothers against decapentaplegic(Smad)and extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)pathways were reduced by ELA13 treatment in vivo and in *** conclusion,ELA13 protected against kidney fibrosis through inhibiting the Smad and ERK signaling pathways and could thus be a promising candidate for anti-renal fibrosis treatment.

The prevalence of vision impairment and refractive error in 3654 first year students at Tianjin Medical University

AIM：To determine the prevalence of vision impairment（VI）and refractive error in first year university students at the Tianjin Medical ***：This is a cross-sectional observational cohort study of VI and refractive error among first year university students at the Tianjin Medical *** first year university students were involved in this study and were given a detailed questionnaire including age,birth date,and spectacle wearing history.A standardized ophthalmologic examination including visual acuity（VA）,slit-lamp examination,non-cycloplegic auto-refraction,objective refraction,fundus photography,and examination of their spectacles were ***：A total of 3654 participants were included in this *** 3436（94.03%） individuals had VI in this *** 150（4.10%） individuals had VI due to ocular disease,including amblyopia,congenital cataract,retinal atrophy or degeneration,strabismus,congenital nystagmus,refractive surgery *** 3286（89.93%） subjects had VI due to refractive *** 218（5.97%） students were ***,refractive error was the main cause for the VI（95.63%）.Totally 3242（92.52%） students were myopia and the prevalence of mild,moderate,and high myopia subgroup was 27.05%,44.35%,and 21.26% *** 44（1.29%） subjects were *** rates of uncorrected visual acuity（UCVA）,presenting visual acuity（PVA）and best corrected visual acuity（BCVA）which better than 20/20 in both eyes were 5.65%,22.32% and 82.13% *** rates of correction,under correction and well correction in myopia subjects were 82.73%,84.39% and 15.61%,respectively. CONCLUSION：We present a high prevalence of refractive errors and high rates of under correction refractive error among first year university *** results may help to promote vision protection work in young adults.

Selenium is an essential trace element for humans and *** the active center of selenoproteins,the addition of selenium is beneficial to enhance the antioxidant ***,the high cost limits the application of organic Se in agriculture animal *** glucose(SeGlu)is a newly invented organoselenium material with good stability,low toxicity and low *** assay found that SeGlu was able to increase selenium deposition in liver of newborn broilers,and enhance the antioxidant capacity of liver by elevating the activities of antioxidant enzymes such as total superoxide dismutase and glutathione *** paper as the first example clarifying the mechanism of SeGlu to enhance the antioxidant ability of chicks,shows that SeGlu can be used as an organic selenium enrichment additive for early nutrition of *** a cross-discipline study involving chemistry,biology and agriculture animal science,the work may be beneficial for studies in related fields and prompt the development of the selenium science.

In this study,a novel iron-based catalyst system,Fe(acac)3/(isocyanoimino)triptenylphosphorane(IITP)/AlR3,was employed for the synthesis of syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene in *** catalyst system exhibits remarkably high catalytic activity,achieving a polymerization activity of 762 kgpolymer·molcatalyst^(-1)·h^(-1)at 50℃with a[BD]/[Fe]molar ratio of ***,living polymerization characteristic were observed during the investigation of the polymerization kinetics of 1,3-butadiene *** characteristics were well demonstrated by a narrow molecular weight distribution(PDI≈2.0)of the resulting polybutadiene and a linear relationship between-ln(1-c)and polymerization time as well as number average molecular weight and polymer *** resultant polymer showed a 1,2-selectivity of approximately 76%and stereoregularity ranging from 62%to 73%(rrrr).Additionally,through kinetic studies on polymerization reaction,an apparent activation energy Ea value of this catalytic system was calculated to be 84.98 kJ·mol^(-1),which suggests that high polymerization temperature favors efficient polymerization.

Constructing a 3D multichannel structure to enhance performance of Ni–Co–Mn hydroxide electrodes for flexible supercapacitors

The balancing of the electrochemical performance,mechanical stability,and processing technology for applying supercapacitors to flexible and wearable electronics continues to encounter severe ***,we prepare Ni-Co-Mn hydroxide electrodes with a threedimensional multichannel structure via a simple hydrothermal *** are constructed using vertically contiguous nano sheets with a uniform thickness and rough *** electrodes can provide numerous electroactive sites and accelerate the transmission of electrolyte *** relationship between the structure and electrochemical performances is verified by experiments and theoretical ***-dimensional(2D)planar and one-dimensional(1D)fiber electrodes are prepared using a flexible carbon cloth(CC)and carbon fiber(CF),respectively,as *** assembled quasi-solid-state flexible asymmetric supercapacitor(FASC)with a twodimensional sandwich structure using NiCoMn-OH/CC as the electrode achieves a remarkable energy density of73.8 Wh·kg^(-1)at a power density of 1.03 kW·kg^(-1).The quasi-solid-state FASC with a 1D linear structure using NiCoMn-OH/CF as the electrode also attains a high energy density(12.9 Wh·kg^(-1)at a power density of0.75 W·kg^(-1)).Moreover,the electrochemical performances of the NiCoMn/CC//AC/CC and NiCoMn/CF//AC/CF FASCs are not disturbed at different bending angles(0°,45°,90°,135°and 180°),This indicates the superior flexibility of the *** also assemble a self-powered energy-harvesting storage system by integrating FASCs and commercial solar cells to verify its *** displays sustainable development potential for energy storage.

Reactive Transport Process of Earthquake-induced Hydrochemical Changes in Guanding Thermal Spring,Western Sichuan,China

Earthquake-related hydrochemical changes in thermal springs have been widely observed;however,quantitative modeling of the reactive transport process is *** the present study,we apply reactive transport simulation to capture the hydrochemical responses in a thermal spring following the Wenchuan Ms 8.0 and Lushan Ms 7.0 *** first constrain deep reservoir geothermal fluid compositions and temperature by multicomponent geothermometry,and then a reactive geochemical transport model is constructed to reproduce the hydrochemical evolution *** results show that the recharge from the shallow aquifer increases gradually until it reaches a peak because of the permeability enhancement caused by the Lushan earthquake,which may be the mechanism to explain the earthquake-related hydrochemical *** contrast to the postseismic effect of the Wenchuan earthquake,the chemical evolution can be considered as hydrochemical anomalies related to the Lushan *** study proves that the efficient simulation of reactive transport processes is useful for investigating earthquake-related signals in hydrochemical time series.

Towards kernelizing the classifier for hyperbolic data

Data hierarchy,as a hidden property of data structure,exists in a wide range of machine learning applications.A common practice to classify such hierarchical data is first to encode the data in the Euclidean space,and then train a Euclidean ***,such a paradigm leads to a performance drop due to distortion of data embedding in the Euclidean *** relieve this issue,hyperbolic geometry is investigated as an alternative space to encode the hierarchical data for its higher ability to capture the hierarchical *** methods cannot explore the full potential of the hyperbolic geometry,in the sense that such methods define the hyperbolic operations in the tangent plane,causing the distortion of data *** this paper,we develop two novel kernel formulations in the hyperbolic space,with one being positive definite(PD)and another one being indefinite,to solve the classification tasks in hyperbolic *** PD one is defined via mapping the hyperbolic data to the Drury-Arveson(DA)space,which is a special reproducing kernel Hilbert space(RKHS).To further increase the discrimination of the classifier,an indefinite kernel is further defined in the Krein ***,we design a 2-layer nested indefinite kernel which first maps hyperbolic data into the DA spaces,followed by a mapping from the DA spaces to the Krein *** experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority ofthe proposed kernels.

Al-doped ZnO/WO_(3) heterostructure films prepared by magnetron sputtering for isopropanol sensors

Metal oxide semiconductors(MOSs) are ideal sensing materials for detecting volatile organic compounds due to their low cost, diversity, high stability, and ease of production. However, it remains a grand challenge to develop the MOSs-based gas sensors for sensing isopropanol with desired performance via a simple, effective,and controllable method. Herein, we reported the preparation of the Al-doped Zn O(AZO)/WO_(3) heterostructure films by directly depositing the AZO coating onto the WO_(3) coating using a strategy of magnetron sputtering. The AZO/WO_(3) heterostructure films were constructed by numbers of irregular nanoparticles that were interconnected with each other. The AZO/WO_(3) heterostructure films-based gas sensors exhibited excellent isopropanolsensing performance with high response, promising selectivity, low detection limit, fast response rate, wide detection range, and ideal reproducibility. The promising isopropanol-sensing performance of the AZO/WO_(3) heterostructure films arises mainly from their high uniformity, unique microstructures with high surface roughness,and the construction of the heterostructure between the AZO and WO_(3) coatings. This work provides a versatile approach to prepare the MOSs-based heterostructure films for assembling the gas sensors.
