The incidence of diabetes is gradually increasing in China,and diabetes and associated complications,such as cognitive dysfunction have gained much attention in recent time.However,the concepts,clinical treatment,and prevention of cognitive dysfunction in patients with diabetes remain unclear.The Chinese Society of Endocrinology investigated the current national and overseas situation of cognitive dysfunction associated with diabetes.Based on research both in China and other countries worldwide,the Expert Consensus on Cognitive Dysfunction in Diabetes was established to guide physicians in the comprehensive standardized management of cognitive dysfunction in diabetes and to improve clinical outcomes in Chinese patients.This consensus presents an overview,definition and classification,epidemiology and pathogenesis,risk factors,screening,diagnosis,differential diagnosis,treatment,and prevention of cognitive dysfunction in patients with diabetes.

We examine the cross-shelf variation of internal tides(ITs)west of the Dongsha Plateau in the northern South China Sea based on observations from 4 moorings deployed between August 2017 and September 2018.On the slope,the amplitude of diurnal baroclinic current ellipses are 5 times larger than that of barotropic currents.The baroclinic energy quickly dissipates during cross-shelf propagation,and barotropic currents become dominant on the shelf outside of the Zhujiang River Estuary,with the amplitude of semidiurnal barotropic current ellipses being 10 times larger than that of the baroclinic ones.Dynamic modal decomposition indicates the first baroclinic mode is dominant for both diurnal and semidiurnal ITs.The total horizontal kinetic energy(HKE)of the first three baroclinic modes shows spatiotemporal differences among the 4 moorings.On the slope,the HKE for diurnal ITs is stronger in summer and winter,but weaker in spring and autumn;for semidiurnal ITs there is a similar seasonal variation,but the HKE in winter is even stronger than that in summer.On the shallow shelf,both diurnal and semidiurnal ITs maintain a certain intensity in summer but almost disappear in winter.Further analysis shows that only the upper water column is affected by seasonal variation of stratification on the slope,variation of diurnal ITs is thus controlled by the semi-annual cycle of barotropic energy input from the Luzon Strait,while the incoherent baroclinic currents make a major contribution to the temporal variation of semidiurnal ITs.For the shelf region,the water column is well mixed in winter,and the baroclinic energy largely dissipates when ITs propagate to the shelf zone despite of a strong barotropic energy input from the Luzon Strait.

The two-phase zone continuous casting(TZCC)technique was used to continuously cast high-strength aluminum alloy hollow billets,and a verified 3D model of TZCC was used to simulate the flow and temperature fields at casting speeds of 2-6 mm·min^(-1).Hollow billets under the same conditions were prepared,and their macro/microstructures were analyzed by an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope.During the TZCC process,a circular fluid flow appears in front of the mushy zone,and the induction heated stepped mold and convective heat transfer result in a curved solidification front with depressed region near the inner wall and a vertical temperature gradient.The deflection of the solidification front decreases and the average cooling rate in the mushy zone increases with increasing casting speed.Experimental results for a 2D12 alloy show that hot tearing periodically appears in the hollow billet accompanied by macrosegregation near the inner wall at casting speeds of 2 and 4 mm·min^(-1),while macroscopic defects of hot tearing and macrosegregation weaken and the average size of columnar crystals in the hollow billets decreases with further increasing casting speed.2D12 aluminum alloy hollow billets with no macroscopic defects,the finest columnar crystals,and excellent mechanical properties were prepared by TZCC at a casting speed of 6 mm·min^(-1),which is beneficial for the further plastic forming process.

Ghrelin is a neuropeptide that has various physiological functions and has been demonstrated to be neuroprotective in a number of neurological disease models.However,the underlying mechanisms of ghrelin in Parkinson’s disease remain largely unexplored.The current study aimed to study the effects of ghrelin in a 6-hydroxydopamine(6-OHDA)-induced Parkinson’s disease model and evaluate the potential underlying mechanisms.In the present study,we treated an SH-SY5 Y cell model with 6-OHDA,and observed that pretreatment with different concentrations of ghrelin(1,10,and 100 nM)for 30 minutes relieved the neurotoxic effects of 6-OHDA,as revealed by Cell Counting Kit-8 and Annexin V/propidium iodide(PI)apoptosis assays.Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot assay results demonstrated that 6-OHDA treatment upregulatedα-synuclein and lincRNA-p21 and downregulated TG-interacting factor 1(TGIF1),which was predicted as a potential transcription regulator of the gene encodingα-synuclein(SNCA).Ghrelin pretreatment was able to reverse the trends caused by 6-OHDA.The Annexin V/PI apoptosis assay results revealed that inhibiting eitherα-synuclein or lincRNA-p21 expression with small interfering RNA(siRNA)relieved 6-OHDA-induced cell apoptosis.Furthermore,inhibiting lincRNA-p21 also partially upregulated TGIF1.By retrieving information from a bioinformatics database and performing both double luciferase and RNA immunoprecipitation assays,we found that lincRNA-p21 and TGIF1 were able to form a double-stranded RNA-binding protein Staufen homolog 1(STAU1)binding site and further activate the STAU1-mediated mRNA decay pathway.In addition,TGIF1 was able to transcriptionally regulateα-synuclein expression by binding to the promoter of SNCA.The Annexin V/PI apoptosis assay results showed that either knockdown of TGIF1 or overexpression of lincRNA-p21 notably abolished the neuroprotective effects of ghrelin against 6-OHDA-induced neurotoxicity.Collectively,these findings suggest that ghrelin exerts neu

Background:Distinguishing between primary clear cell carcinoma of the liver(PCCCL)and common hepatocellular carcinoma(CHCC)through traditional inspection methods before the operation is difficult.This study aimed to establish a Faster region-based convolutional neural network(RCNN)model for the accurate differential diagnosis of PCCCL and CHCC.Methods:In this study,we collected the data of 62 patients with PCCCL and 1079 patients with CHCC in Beijing YouAn Hospital from June 2012 to May 2020.A total of 109 patients with CHCC and 42 patients with PCCCL were randomly divided into the training validation set and the test set in a ratio of 4:1.The Faster RCNN was used for deep learning of patients’data in the training validation set,and established a convolutional neural network model to distinguish PCCCL and CHCC.The accuracy,average precision,and the recall of the model for diagnosing PCCCL and CHCC were used to evaluate the detection performance of the Faster RCNN algorithm.Results:A total of 4392 images of 121 patients(1032 images of 33 patients with PCCCL and 3360 images of 88 patients with CHCC)were uesd in test set for deep learning and establishing the model,and 1072 images of 30 patients(320 images of nine patients with PCCCL and 752 images of 21 patients with CHCC)were used to test the model.The accuracy of the model for accurately diagnosing PCCCL and CHCC was 0.962(95%confidence interval[CI]:0.931-0.992).The average precision of the model for diagnosing PCCCL was 0.908(95%CI:0.823-0.993)and that for diagnosing CHCC was 0.907(95%CI:0.823-0.993).The recall of the model for diagnosing PCCCL was 0.951(95%CI:0.916-0.985)and that for diagnosing CHCC was 0.960(95%CI:0.854-0.962).The time to make a diagnosis using the model took an average of 4 s for each patient.Conclusion:The Faster RCNN model can accurately distinguish PCCCL and CHCC.This model could be important for clinicians to make appropriate treatment plans for patients with PCCCL or CHCC.

TRPV4-induced Neurofilament Injury Contributes to Memory Impairment after High Intensity and Low Frequency Noise Exposures

Objective Exposure to high intensity, low frequency noise(HI-LFN) causes vibroacoustic disease(VAD),with memory deficit as a primary non-auditory symptomatic effect of VAD. However, the underlying mechanism of the memory deficit is unknown. This study aimed to characterize potential mechanisms involving morphological changes of neurons and nerve fibers in the hippocampus, after exposure to HILFN.Methods Adult wild-type and transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 4 knockout(TRPV4^(-/-)) mice were used for construction of the HI-LFN injury model. The new object recognition task and the Morris water maze test were used to measure the memory of these animals. Hemoxylin and eosin and immunofluorescence staining were used to examine morphological changes of the hippocampus after exposure to HI-LFN.Results The expression of TRPV4 was significantly upregulated in the hippocampus after HI-LFN exposure. Furthermore, memory deficits correlated with lower densities of neurons and neurofilamentpositive nerve fibers in the cornu ammonis 1(CA1) and dentate gyrus(DG) hippocampal areas in wildtype mice. However, TRPV4^(-/-)mice showed better performance in memory tests and more integrated neurofilament-positive nerve fibers in the CA1 and DG areas after HI-LFN exposure.Conclusion TRPV4 up-regulation induced neurofilament positive nerve fiber injury in the hippocampus,which was a possible mechanism for memory impairment and cognitive decline resulting from HI-LFN exposure. Together, these results identified a promising therapeutic target for treating cognitive dysfunction in VAD patients.

Here we report an in situ assembly growth method that controls the growth of NiTCNQ on the surface of graphdiyne(GDY).The catalytic system of donor–acceptor–donor(GDY/TCNQ/Ni)structure with multiple charge transfer(CT)was achieved by controlling the growth of NiTCNQ on the surface of GDY.Significantly,a controlled double layer interface of GDY/TCNQ/Ni was formed.This system implemented simultaneously the two elements we expected(1)an incomplete CT,and(2)the infinite distribution of active sites originating from highly asymmetric surface charge distribution.The high conductivity and typical semiconductor characteristics of the catalyst endows it with high catalytic activity.We found that an electrolytic cell consisting of the CT salt as a catalyst provided a 1.40 V ultra-small cell voltage up to 10 mA cm−2 and the outer GDY film effectively prevented the corrosion of the catalyst.Our study is the first to introduce CT complexes to a novel catalytic material platform for high selectivity of catalysts,and undoubtedly demonstrates the high selectivity,stability,and activity of such catalytic systems,which provides a new space for the development of novel conceptual catalysts.

Efficient photocatalysis of tetracycline hydrochloride(TC-HCl) from pharmaceutical wastewater using AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4) composite under visible light: Process and mechanisms

AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4), a visible light activated ternary composite catalyst, was prepared by combining calcination, hydrothermal reaction and in-situ deposition processes to treat/photocatalyse tetracycline hydrochloride(TC-HCl) from pharmaceutical wastewater under visible light. The morphological, structural, electrical, and optical features of the novel photocatalyst were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), UV-visible light absorption spectrum(UV–Vis DRS), X-ray diffractometer(XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), and transient photocurrent techniques. All analyses confirmed that the formation of heterojunctions between AgCl/ZnO and g-C_(3)N_(4)significantly increase electron-hole transfer and separation compared to pure ZnO and g-C_(3)N_(4). Thus, AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)could exhibit superior photocatalytic activity during TC-HCl assays(over 90% removal) under visible light irradiation. The composite could maintain its photocatalytic stability even after four consecutive reaction cycles. Hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)) and superoxide radical(·O_(2)) contributed more than holes(h+) and hydroxyl radicals(·OH) to the degradation process as showed by trapping experiments. Liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer(LC-MS) was used for the representation of the TC-HCl potential degradation pathway. The applicability and the treatment potential of AgCl/ZnO/gC_(3)N_(4)against actual pharmaceutical wastewater showed that the composite can achieve removal efficiencies of 81.7%, 71.4% and 69.0% for TC-HCl, chemical oxygen demand(COD) and total organic carbon(TOC) respectively. AgCl/ZnO/g-C_(3)N_(4)can be a prospective key photocatalyst in the field of degradation of persistent, hardly-degradable pollutants, from industrial wastewater and not only.

To the Editor:Heart failure(HF)is currently recognized as a disease that affects approximately 1%–2%of adults worldwide.[1]The most frequent reasons for HF are valvular heart diseases,chronic or acute cardiac ischemia,and prevalent cardiomyopathies that are caused by alcohol,doxorubicin(Dox),hypertension,diabetes,and metabolic syndrome.[2]The diverse therapeutic approaches that have been developed in recent years have usually only been successful in preclinical subjects,and efficient treatment for HF still needs to be executed.[3]Therefore,a more practical therapeutic strategy and therapeutic candidates are urgently needed.Astragaloside IV(AS-IV)is a principle active constituent of Astragalus membranaceus Bunge,which is a Chinese protective medicine that is widely used in HF patients.[4]Increasing evidence confirms the efficiency and safety of AS-IV for the treatment of HF in vivo and in vitro.However,to date,the investigations in this field have been limited to the broad roles of AS-IV.
