Persistent depression is a predictor of quality of life in stroke survivors: results from a 5-year follow-up study of a Chinese cohort

Role of BMP3 in progression of gastric carcinoma in Chinese people

Effect of friction stir processing on microstructure and damping capacity of AZ31 alloy

AZ31 alloy sheet fabricated by rolling was processed by friction stir processing(FSP) with different passes. The effect of FSP on the microstructure and damping capacity of AZ31 alloy sheet was discussed. The fine and equiaxed grains were obtained in the stirred zone(SZ) for FSPed samples from 1 pass to 3 passes with the average grain size of 10.6, 10.4 and 13.6 μm, respectively. The damping peak P_1 was presented on the curves of temperature-dependent damping capacity for FSPed samples. The damping peak P_2 was restrained after FSP and the damping peak P_1 was a relaxation process. The FSPed samples(2-pass FSP and 3-pass FSP) obtained high damping capacity. The best damping valuesQ_0^(-1)(ε=10_(-4)) and damping values Q_H^(-1)(ε=10^(-3)) of the sample subjected to 3-pass FSP(0.0131 and 0.0496) increased by 33.7% and 157.0%, respectively.

Pre-existing cirrhosis is associated with increased mortality of traumatic patients: Analysis of cases from a trauma center in East China

AIM:To determine the impact of cirrhosis on trauma patients and define the factors predicting ***:The data on patients admitted to the trauma center from January 2000-2005 were studied *** clinical variables were recorded and compared to identify the factors differentiating cirrhotic trauma survivors from non ***'s classification criteria were derived from the reviewed charts of cirrhotic trauma patients to evaluate their predictive value in cirrhotic *** registry was also used to generate a trauma control group by matching for age,sex,abbreviated injury score(AIS)over the same period of *** outcome variables compared were mortality rate,time of ICU and hospital *** were expressed as mean ± *** data were analyzed by SPSS.11.0 statistical *** analysis was performed to identify significant medical factors for survivor and non survivors subjected to chi-square ***'s exact test and Student's t test were performed to determine the statistical difference between cirrhotic and control groups.P < 0.05 was considered statistically ***:Poor prognosis of traum patients was associated with one or more of the following findings:ascitcs,hyperbilirubinemia(more than 2 mg/dL),hypoalbuminemia(less than 3.5 mg/dL),and prolonged prothrombin time(more than 12.5 seconds).Although Child's classification was used to predict the outcome in cirrhotic patients undergoing portacaval shunt procedures,no significant difference was found in mortality rate as a function of Child's ***:Cirrhosis is associated with a highermortality,a longer time of ICU and hospital stay of trauma *** seems that treatment of trauma patients with pre-existing severe liver disease is a challenge to surgeons.

Bibliometric profile of neurogenic bladder in the literature:a 20-year bibliometric analysis

Neurogenic bladder is a dysfunction of the lower urinary tract caused by nervous system disor- der. We investigated the trends in publication of articles under the topic ＂neurogenic bladder＂ using bibliometric analysis. Articles on neurogenic bladder, published between 1995 and 2014, were retrieved from the ISI Web of Science citation database. We analyzed the search results for authors, countries, institutions, journals, and top-cited papers. A total of 1,904 articles were re- trieved. There was a small increase in the number of articles on neurogenic bladder from 1995 （n = 43） to 2014 （n = 117）. The USA was the leading country in the total number of articles （n = 598）. However, the number of publications from China has rapidly increased, and China was ranked second in 2014. Emmanuel Chartier-Kastler （n = 65） was the most productive author, and University of Paris VI （Paris 6）（n = 61） was the most productive institution. The Journal of Urology published the greatest number of artides on this topic （n = 285）. Articles on neurogenic bladder were often published in a professional journal under the category Urology ＆ Nephrology, Neurosciences ＆ Neurology, or Rehabilitation. Visualization analysis based on co-citation networks was conducted using CiteSpace III. Visualization analysis revealed that the hot spots in neurogenic bladder were botulinum toxin-A, prazosin, bethanechol, and afferent pathways. These findings provide new insight into the publication trends and hot spots in neurogenic bladder.

To the Editor:Spinal muscular atrophy(SMA)is an autosomal recessive disease caused by a deficiency of the survival motor neuron 1(SMN1)protein,which causes the loss of motor neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord.⑴A genetically similar gene,SMN2,has a translationally silent C-to-T transition at Position 6 in its 7th exon that causes only 10%correctly spliced full-length and functional SMN protein via alternative splicing.

Highlighting the importance of early diagnosis in progressive multi-organ involvement of IgG4-related disease: A case report and review of literature

IgG4-related disease(IgG4-RD)is an increasingly recognized pathological entity that tends to involve multiple organs with an elevated level of serum IgG4,which is easily misdiagnosed owing to sharing common clinical features with a variety of other ***,we report an interesting IgG4-RD case of a woman with progressive multi-organ involvement for over 19 years,started with swollen eyelids,dry eye and mouth,and polydipsia and *** diagnosis revealed diffuse enlargement of the parotid glands,enlargement of the head of the pancreas,pulmonary infection and interstitial *** tests showed a remarkable elevation of the serum IgG4,and cytological analysis further revealed a large amount of lymphoplasmacytic infiltration into the focal lobule,and IgG 4-positive cell infiltration in bladder ***,the patient responded well to steroid therapy,and thus,she was diagnosed as IgG 4-RD *** report highlights the importance of an early diagnosis in this autoimmune disease and suggests that patients with a clinically unclear cause of inflammation,swelling and refractory glands,rhinitis,pancreatitis,hypophysitis,and/or interstitial pneumonia should be considered for IgG *** plasma IgG4 level and lymphoplasmacytic infiltration may be useful indexes for screening,and a low dose of steroid maintaining therapy may offer benefits for patients with IgG4-RD.

HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA represses E-cadherin expression by binding to EZH2 in gastric cancer

AIM To clarify the mechanisms of HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA(HOTAIR) in gastric cancer(GC) migration and *** Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qp CR) was used to detect the expression level of HOTAIR in GC tissues. The correlation of its expression with clinicopathological features was analyzed. Area under receiver operating characteristic curve(AUCROC) was constructed to evaluate the diagnostic value of HOTAIR. Wound-healing assay and Transwell assay were performed to detect the biological effects of HOTAIR in GC cells. qp CR,western blot and immunohistochemistry were used to evaluate the m RNA and protein expression of E-cadherin. RNAbinding protein immunoprecipitation was used for the analysis of EZH2 interactions with HOTAIR. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay was performed to investigate direct interactions between EZH2 and *** The expression of HOTAIR was up-regulated in GC tumorous tissues compared with the para-tumorous tissues(p < 0.001). Its over-expression was correlated with tumor-node-metastasis(TNM) stage(p = 0.024),tumor invasion(p = 0.018),lymph node metastasis(p = 0.023),and poor prognosis(p < 0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analysis confirmed expression of HOTAIR as an independent predictor of overall survival(p = 0.033),together with TNM stage(p = 0.002) and lymph node metastasis(p = 0.002). The AUCROC was up to 0.709(95%CI: 0.623-0.785,p < 0.001). Knockdown of HOTAIR by si RNA in GC cells suppressed the migration and invasion of GC cells. Significantly negative correlation between HOTAIR and E-cadherin was found in GC tissues and cell lines,and HOTAIR contributed to the regulation of E-cadherin through binding to EZH2 with the E-cadherin promoter. CONCLUSION HOTAIR may play a pivotal role in tumor cell migration and invasion. It can be used as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for GC.
