＜正＞ A reliable method was put forward to estimate rigiditycenter of standing buildings from vibration recordings. Itwas based on the characteristic of the center that thetranslational motion at that position is minimally coheredto the torsional motion during vibration. Defining thecoherence area as integration of coherence function oftorsional motion and translational motion in frequencyfield and calculating of the area at any positions in floorslabs, the rigidity center was determined at the positionwhere coherence area reaches minimum. An example waspresented in this paper and the validity of this methodwas proved.
