Comparative Study between Bone Tissue Engineering Scaffolds with Bull and Rat Cancellous Microarchitectures on Tissue Differentiations of Bone Marrow Stromal Cells： A Numerical Investigation

Tissue-engineered bone scaffolds provide temporary mechanical support for bone tissue growth. Mechanical stimuli are transferred to seeded cells through the scaffold structure to promote cell proliferation and differentiation. This paper presents a numerical investigation specifically on bone and cartilage tissue differentiation with the aim to provide a theoretical basis for scaffold design and bone defect repair in clinics. In this study, the scaffold structures were established on the basis of cancellous bone microarchitectures. For finite element simulations, inlet velocity and compressive strain were applied under in vitro culture conditions. The influences of this scaffold mor- phology and macro-level culture conditions on micro-mechanical stimuli at scaffold surfaces were investigated. Correlations between the microarchitectural parameters and the mechanical parameters, as well as the cell differentiation parameters were analyzed. Highly het- erogeneous stress distributions were observed on the scaffolds with irregular morphology. Cell differentiation on the scaffold was more sensitive to the inlet velocity than the axial strain. In addition, cartilage differentiation on the scaffolds with structures comprising more plate-like trabeculae was more pronounced than on those with more rod-like trabeculae. This paper is helpful to gain more insight into the mechanical environments under in vitro culture conditions that approximate the in vivo mechanical environments of Bone Marrow Stromal Ceils （BMSCs）.

The efficient harvesting of triplet excitons is crucial to the realization of high-performance organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs).Herein,we show that coordination of donor-acceptor(D-A)type molecules to a metal atom in a monodentate fashion can lead to thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)emissions with wide color tunability only through varying the noncoordinating acceptor moiety.A panel of TADF gold(Ⅰ)complexes with emission maxima(λmax)of 545–645 nm from metal perturbed intraligand charge-transfer(MPICT)excited states have been *** effects of heavy atom-induced spin-orbit coupling(SOC),steric-induced donor-acceptor twisting and suppressed intramolecular motions lead to high emission efficiencies of 65%-85%in doped films with delayed fluorescence lifetime of as short as 2.0μ*** absorption spectroscopic studies on selected complexes determined the kISCto be 6.5×10^(9)s^(-1).Theoretical calculations confirmed the participation of minor d orbital into the lowest excited state,which led to an SOC value of 5.19 cm^(-1)between the lowest-lying singlet and triplet excited *** yellow to deep red solution-processed OLEDs based on the new gold(Ⅰ)complexes incorporated with various D-A ligands demonstrated promising *** study validates a modular design for TADF metal complexes,which will broaden the choices of metal centers and allow for facile color tuning via simple ligand synthesis.

A New Approach to Measurement of Regional Inequality in Particular Directions

Regional inequality is a core issue in geography,and it can be measured by several approaches and ***,the global inequality measures can not reflect regional characteristics in terms of spatiality and non-mobility,as well as correctly explore regional inequality in particular *** conventional between-group inequality indexes can measure the inequality in particular directions,they can not reflect the reversals of regional patterns and changes of within-group ***,we set forth a new approach to measure regional inequality in particular directions,which is applicable to geographic *** on grouping,we established a new index to measure regional inequality in particular directions named Particular Direction Inequality index(PDI index),which is comprised of between-group inequality of all data and between-group average *** can reflect regional spatiality and non-mobility,judge the main direction of regional inequality,and capture the changes and reversals of regional *** used the PDI index to measure the changes of regional inequality from 1952 to 2009 in *** results show that:1) the main direction of China's regional inequality was between coastal areas and inland areas;the increasing extent of inequality between coastal areas and inland areas was higher than the global inequality;2) the PDI index can measure the between-region average gap,and is more sensitive to evolution of within-region patterns;3) the inequality between the northern China and the southern China has been decreasing from 1952 to 2009 and was reversed in 1994 and 1995.

Simulation of γ spectrum-shifting based on the parameter adjustment of Gaussian function space

Based on the statistical characteristics of energy spectrum and the features of spectrum-shifting in spectrometry,the parameter adjustment method of Gaussian function space was applied in the simulation of *** transient characteristics of energy spectrum were described by the Gaussian function space,and then the Gaussian function space was transferred by parameter adjustment ***,the spectrum-shifting in measurement of energy spectrum was *** applied example shows that the parameters can be adjusted flexibly by this method to meet the various requirements in simulation of energy *** method was one parameterized simulation method with good performance for the practical application.

Adaptive Algorithms on Maximizing Monotone Nonsubmodular Functions

Submodular optimization is widely used in large *** order to speed up the problems solving,it is essential to design low-adaptive algorithms to achieve acceleration in *** general,the function values are given by a value oracle,but in practice,the oracle queries may consume a lot of ***,how to strike a balance between optimizing them is *** this paper,we focus on maximizing a normalized and strictly monotone set function with the diminishing-return ratio under a cardinality constraint,and propose two algorithms to deal with *** apply the adaptive sequencing technique to devise the first algorithm,whose approximation ratio is arbitrarily close to 1-e^(-γ)in O(logn·log(log k/γ)) adaptive rounds,and requires O(logn^(2)·log(log k/γ)) *** by adding preprocessing and parameter estimation steps to the first algorithm,we get the second *** second algorithm trades a small sacrifice in adaptive complexity for a significant improvement in query *** the same approximation and adaptive complexity,the query complexity is improved *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first paper of designing adaptive algorithms for maximizing a monotone function using the diminishing-return ratio.

The bioconversion of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol is a complex bioprocess. The item of product inhibition in the equation of Specific rate of cell growth is overlapped in [L. Wang, J. X. Ye, E. M. Feng and Z. L. xiu, An improved model for multistage simula- tion of glycerol fermentation in batch culture and its parameter identification, Nonlinear Anal. Hybrid Syst. 3（4）（2009） 455462]. Therefore, in this work, the specific rate of cell growth is modified by the mechanism of multistage simulation of microbial bioconversion and the previous time-dependent model is converted to the autonomous standard form. The properties of the solutions for the nonlinear dynamic system are discussed and the identifiability of the parameters is proved. Finally the feasible optimization algorithm is constructed to find the optimal parameters for the system. Numerical result shows that the improved model with identified parameters can describe the batch culture better, compared with the previous results.

Report:How many Chinese journals are included in the newly indexed 700 regional journals on Web of Science?

Based on the current news via Thomson Reuters "700 new regional journals in the world have been added to Web of Science since 2007",we conducted an investigation to find out that 43(6.1%) Chinese journals(including 6 journals from Hong Kong region) are included. The results also show that up to now a total of about 153 Chinese journals(114 from China Mainland,11 from Hong Kong and 28 from Taiwan) have been included by SCI and SSCI & AHCI.

Experimental Study of Isopropanol Dehydrogenation over Amorphous Alloy Raney Nickel Catalysts

The dehydrogenation reaction of isopropanol occurring at low temperature is of great industrial importance. It is a key procedure in isopropanol/acetone/hydrogen chemical heat pump system. An experimental investigation was performed to study the behavior of the liquid phase dehydrogenation of isopropanol over amorphous alloy Raney nickel catalysts. Un-promoted and promoted catalysts were used and their performances were compared under various catalyst amounts, acetone content in the reactant and reaction temperature ranging from 348 K to 355 *** is found that there exists an optimum catalyst concentration which is about 0.34 g in 300 ml isopropanol. The temperature has evident effect on the reaction. The presence of activities of Fe-promoted catalyst decrease slightly compared to the un-promoted catalyst when the temperature are 348 K and 351 K. Besides, the reaction rate decreases almost linearly with the increase of acetone volume fraction in the reactant.
