A bifunctional POM-based Cu-viologen complex with mixed octamolybdate clusters for rapid oxidation desulfurization and effective photogeneration of hydrogen

The design and synthesis of catalysts for the oxidation desulfurization and production of hydrogen are extremely important for solving environmental pollution and energy ***,a novel bifunctional [α-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)/[β-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)-based Cu-viologen complex H_(4)[Cu_(2)~ⅠCl_(2)(Hbcbpy)_(4)] [α-Mo_(8)O_(26)] [β-Mo8O_(26)]·H_(2)O(BHU-2,Hbcbpy=1-(4-carboxybenzyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium) was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction(XRD),infrared radiation spectra,powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) *** structural characteristic of BHU-2 is the presence of two types of octamolybdate clusters [α-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)/[β-Mo_(8)O_(26)]^(4-)and a new binuclear Cu~Ⅰ-Hbcbpy complex linked by Cl-bridges[Cu_(2)ⅠCl_(2)(Hbcbpy)_(4)]^(4+).BHU-2 as a heterogeneous catalyst exhibits excellent activities to the oxidation desulfurization and photocatalytic hydrogen *** room temperature,BHU-2 can catalyze 96% conversion of methyl phenyl sulfide with 98% selectivity,and the process obeys the pseudo-first-order reaction kinetic with the half-life of9.6 *** notorious 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide can achieve 99% conversion with 98% selectivity within only1 min at the presence of BHU-2,and the turnover frequency(TOF) is up to 7400 h^(-1).BHU-2 also exhibits high catalytic activity for the oxidation of other aromatic and aliphatic thioethers within short time at room ***,BHU-2 shows a high catalytic activity for visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution with an H_(2) evolution rate of 1677.85 μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1) within 10 ***,the catalytic activities do not decrease evidently after three cycles,revealing the prominent structural stability and recyclability.

Solvent-tuned polyoxometalate-based supramolecular hybrids constructed from different metal-organic motifs:Various structures and adsorption properties for dyes

By changing the solvents, three polyoxometalate（POM）-based supramolecular hybrids, [Co2 L3][SiW（12）O（40）]·17 H2 O（1）,[Co2 L2（H2 O）4][SiW（12）O（40）].2 EtOH·2 H2 O（2） and [Co2 L3][SiW（12）O（40）]·9 DMA·6 H2 O（3）, have been synthesized under hydrothermal or solvothermal conditions. All three hybrids show various supramolecular structures, which contain two kinds of different metal-organic motifs. A kind of metal-organic cationic cage [Co2 L3]^4＋ is formed in the presence of H2 O for 1, DMA/H2 O for 3, and a metalorganic cationic circle [Co2 L2]^（4＋） is constructed in the presence of EtOH/H2 O for 2. That is to say, the solvents show a key role in tuning the architectures of metal-organic fragments and the final POM-based supramolecular structures. The adsorption properties of 1-3 for different organic dyes have also been investigated.

Inositol hexaphosphate-induced enhancement of natural killer cell activity correlates with suppression of colon carcinogenesis in rats

AIM： To investigate the anti-neoplastic effect of inositol hexaphosphate （InsP6 or phytic acid） on dimethylhydrazine （DMH）-induced colon tumor in rats and its effect on blood natural killer （NK） cell activity. METHODS： Healthy Wistar rats, 4 wk old, were divided into control group （fed with common food） and InsP6 group （fed with common food＋2% sodium inositol hexaphosphate in the drinking water）, 15 rats in each group. Both groups were injected with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine subcutaneously （20 mg/kg body weight） once a week for 20 wk. Rats were killed after 21 wk. The whole large intestine was isolated to determine the general condition of tumors and to test blood NK cell activity by lactate-dehydrogenase-release assay. RESULTS： Administration of InsP6 significantly increased blood NK cell activity in DMH-induced colorectal tumor in rats. InsP6 group had a smaller tumor size on average and a smaller number of tumors than the control group. Its mortality was also higher than that in control. However, the variables of body weight and tumor incidence were not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSION： InsP6 can increase blood NK cell activity in DMH-induced colon tumor in rats and inhibit tumor growth and metastasis in rats.

Chemical synaptic coupling-induced delay-dependent synchronization transitions in scale-free neuronal networks

Chemical synaptic couplings are more common than electric(gap junction) connections in *** this paper,the firing synchronizations induced by chemical synaptic coupling in chemically delayed scale-free networks of modified Hodgkin-Huxley neurons have been *** was found that the chemical coupling-induced synchronization transitions are delay-dependent and much different for various delay *** the absence of delay,the neurons exhibit a transition from chaotic bursting(CB) to bursting synchronization(BS) with desynchronized spikes in each burst;for smaller delay lengths,the firing evolves from CB to spiking synchronization(SS),but for larger delay lengths,there are transitions from CB to intermittently multiple SS *** findings show that the chemical coupling-induced firing synchronization transitions strongly depend on the chemical delay lengths,and intermittently multiple SS can only occur for larger delay *** result would be helpful for better understanding the joint roles of the chemical coupling and chemical delay in the firing activity of the neurons.

Methylation and Demethylation of Ink4 Locus in Cancer Development

The Ink4 locus at chromosome 9p21 encodes P15Ink4b, P14Arf, P16Ink4a, MTAP, ncRNA ANRIL/p15AS and p16AS, which play an important role in regulation of stem cell self-renewal. Loss of functions of these genes promotes cell proliferation through bypassing checkpoint between the G1 and S phase of the cell cycle. Transcriptional silence by methylation of CpG island around transcription starting site （TSS） is a frequent event in the early stage of carcinogenesis. Chronic inflammation is a strong initiator for methylation of CpG island of the Ink4a gene. Combination of transcriptional silencers such as Polycomb group （PcG） proteins with gene-specific ncRNA could result in histone modifications including trimethylation at H3K27 firstly, and then at H3K9 epigenetically. In the case of long-term silence of transcription, methylation of CpG sites initiates and spreads progressively within the full CpG islands of the target gene. The methylation status of Ink4a CpG island is very stable even if its host cells are fused with Ink4a active cells.

Multiple resonances with time delays in scale-free networks of Hodgkin-Huxley neurons subjected to non-Gaussian noise

The spiking behavior with varying time delay in scale-free networks of Hodgkin-Huxley neurons with non-Gaussian noise has been studied,and the effect of non-Gaussian noise on the delay-induced spiking behavior is discussed. It was found that multiple spatio-temporal resonances occur when the delay lengths are integer multiples of the spiking periods,and the resonances may be strengthened when the non-Gaussian noise is appropriate. This result shows that time delays can optimize the spiking temporal regularity and spatial synchronization,and appropriate non-Gaussian noise may enhance the delay-induced spiking behaviors. Our findings may help to further understand the joint roles of non-Gaussian noise and time delays in the spiking activity of scale-free neuronal networks.

Thermotolerant and fireproof gel polymer electrolyte toward high-performance and safe lithium-ion battery

Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)and its derivatives based gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs)are severely limited in advanced and safe lithium-ion batteries(liBs)owing to the intrinsically high flammability of liquid electrolytes and *** adding flame retardants to the GPEs can suppress their flammability and thus improve the safety of liBs,but results in deteriorative electrochemical ***,a novel GPE with chemically bonded flame retardant(*** vinylphosphonate)in cross-linked polyethylene glycol diacrylate matrix,featuring both high-safety and high-performance,is *** as-prepared GPE storing the commercial 1 mol L^(-1) liPF6 electrolyte resists high temperature of 200℃and cannot be ignited as well as possesses a high ionic conductivity(0.60 m S cm^(-1))and good compatibility with ***,the liFePO_(4)/li battery with this GPE delivers a satisfactory capacity of 142.2 m A h g^(-1) and a superior cycling performance with a capacity retention of 96.3%and a coulombic efficiency of close to 100%for 350 cycles at 0.2 C under ambient ***,the battery can achieve steady charge–discharge for 100 cycles with a coulombic efficiency of 99.5%at 1 C under 80℃and run normally even at a high temperature of 150℃or under the exposure to butane *** scanning calorimetry manifests significantly improved battery safety compared to commercial battery *** work provides a new pathway for developing next-generation advanced liBs with enhanced performance and high safety.

With the increase of people’s demand,it is extremely desired for developing high-safety,widetemperature-range and high-energy-density lithium batteries,but huge challenges are remained due to shrinkage and combustion of commonly used polyolefin separators at high temperatures,as well as narrow usable temperature range and high flammability of conventionally commercialized liquid *** this work,we report a multifunctional separator mainly consisting of Zn^(2+)-phytate coordination complex nanoparticles and bacterial cellulose nanofibers,named the BZP separator,which possesses high porosity,excellent thermotolerance,good flame retardancy,abilities of anion binding and Ni^(2+)*** cooperating with the fluoride-free wide-temperature-range electrolyte,li//liFePO_(4) cells not only deliver discharge capacities of 110.39 mA h g^(-1)and 113.25 mA h g^(-1)after 2200 cycles (2 C) and1600 cycles (5 C) at 25℃,with capacity retentions of 76.59%and 86.09%,respectively,but also exhibit excellent cycling performance at 80℃ and-40℃.Significantly,the li//NCM811 cell with a loading of7.8 mg cm^(-2)delivers a discharge capacity of 146.64 mA h g^(-1)after 200 cycles at 0.5 C,with a capacity retention of 89.03%.In addition,pouch cells can work at 120℃ and have low flammability.

A bio-based epoxy resin derived from p-hydroxycinnamic acid with high mechanical properties and flame retardancy

Recent advances in epoxy resins have been forward to achieving high mechanical performance,thermal stability,and flame ***,seeking sustainable bio-based epoxy precursors and avoiding introduction of additional flame-retardant agents are still of increasing *** we report the synthesis of p-hydroxycinnamic acid-derived epoxy monomer(HCA-EP)via a simple one-step reaction,and the HCA-EP can be cured with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane(DDM)to prepare epoxy *** with the typical petroleum-based epoxy resin,bisphenol A epoxy resin,the HCA-EP-DDM shows a relatively high glass transition temperature(192.9℃)and impressive mechanical properties(tensile strength of 98.3 MPa and flexural strength of 158.9 MPa).Furthermore,the HCA-EP-DDM passes the V-1 flammability rating in UL-94 test and presents the limiting oxygen index of 32.6%.Notably,its char yield is as high as 31.6%under N_(2),and the peak heat rate release is 60%lower than that of bisphenol A epoxy *** findings provide a simple way of using p-hydroxycinnamic acid instead of bisphenol A to construct high-performance bio-based thermosets.

Multifunctional robust aerogel separator towards high-temperature,large-rate,long-cycle lithium-ion batteries

Separators is indispensable for the normal operation of lithium-ion batteries(liBs).However,the widely used commercial polyolefin separators have some inherent deficiencies such as poor thermotolerance,high inflammability and inferior electrolyte wettability,which restrict their further applications of the advanced and safe ***,we design a novel thermotolerant(a shrinkage percentage of 0%at 300℃)and flame retarded aerogel separator consisting of aramid nanofibers(ANFs).Because of its high porosity(86.5%±6.1%)and excellent electrolyte uptake(695%),the ANFs aerogel separator has an ionic conductivity of 1.04 mS/cm and a high lithium-ion transference number(0.67),which can endow liBs with outstanding rate performance and superior cycling ***,the ANFs aerogel separator-based batteries possess a discharge specific capacity of 102 m Ah/g with a capacity retention of 90.7%and a Coulombic efficiency of 99.3%after 600 cycles at 5 *** addition,under an operated temperature of 90℃,the battery with ANFs aerogel separator can still conduct the very steady chargedischarge,presenting a capacity retention of 90.1%and a Coulombic efficiency of 99.6%after 200 cycles at 3 ***,the separator can probably serve as a potential candidate for application to advanced and safe liBs.
