Abdominal-B regulates structure and development of the Harmonia axyridis cremaster

The ladybird Harmonia axyridis is an insect that exhibits pupal attachment to plants,which facilitates development and environmental *** cremaster is highly specialized for this ***,the underlying molecular regulation of the cremaster remains unclear;therefore,we performed experiments to investigate the transcriptional regulation of cremaster ***,we examined the morphological structure of the cremaster to reveal its function in pupal attachment of ***,we analyzed the Hox gene Ha-Abd-B using RNA interference(RNAi)to determine its function in regulating cremaster formation;Ha-Abd-B up-regulation promoted effective pupal attachment,whereas successful RNAi caused severe down-regulation of this gene,and pupae were unable to ***,successful RNAi and subsequent Ha-Abd-B down-regulation caused phenotypic changes in cremaster structure,including its complete disappearance from some ***,we observed unique development of the cremaster and dynamic expression of Ha-Abd-B during pre-pupal development;consequently,we hypothesized that there was specific pre-pupal development of the ***,based on these results,the specialized cremasteric structure located on the posterior side of *** was determined to be a key organ for pupal *** identification in *** is regulated by Ha-Abd-B and exhibits preferential *** attachment of *** reveals an environmental adaptation of this species;thus,this study and future molecular studies will help determine the role of Hox genes in regulation of insect attachment and further our understanding of the multiple functions of Hox genes.

Phenotypic plasticity is observed in many animal species and it is effective for them to cope with many types of environmental *** multicolored Asian ladybird Harmonia axyridis shows a cuticular pigmentation plasticity that can be rapidly induced by temperature changes,and in the form of changeable melanin spot patterns to adjust ***,*** with thermal stimulation were selected for determining the molecular regulations behind ***,we confirmed the melanin level changes of *** pupa could be induced by temperature,and then screened the efficient time window for thermal sensing of *** pre-pupa;it is suggested that the late stage of pre-pupa(late stage of 4th instar larva)is the critical period to sense thermal signals and adjust its pupal melanin spot area size to adapt to upcoming thermal *** Ha-ADC(aspartate decarboxylase)and Ha-ebony(NBAD synthase)of aspartate-β-alanine-NBAD pathway were then proved in regulation of cuticular melanization for pupa through RNA interference experiments;knockdown of these two genes enlarged the melanin spot ***,we designed a random injection of Ha-ADC at different pre-pupal stages,to further study the regulation window during this *** with all evidence observed,we suggested the spot size determination can be regulated very close to the time point of pupation,and genes of the aspartate-β-alanine-NBAD pathway play an important role at the molecular *** brief,*** exhibits a flexible active physiological regulation through transcriptional modification to thermal changes.

Dyeing bacterial cellulose pellicles for energetic heteroatom doped carbon nanofiber aerogels

The energy crisis and environmental pollution are serious challenges that humanity will face for the long-term. Despite tremendous efforts, the development of environmentally friendly methods to fabricate new energy materials is still challenging. Here we report, for the first time, a new strategy to fabricate various doped carbon nanofiber （CNF） aerogels by pyrolysis of bacterial cellulose （BC） pellicles which had adsorbed or were dyed with different toxic organic dyes. The proposed strategy makes it possible to remove the toxic dyes from waste-water and then synthesize doped CNF aerogels using the dyed BC pellicles as precursors. Compared with other reported processes for preparing heteroatom doped carbon （HDC） nanomaterials, the present synthetic method has some significant advantages, such as being green, general, low-cost and easily scalable. Moreover, the as-prepared doped CNF aerogels exhibit great potential as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction （ORR） and as electrode materials for supercapacitors.

Quinoxaline-3-carboxylates and analogues are prevalent key structural motifs in bioactive natural products and synthetic ***, the practical protocol for preparation of these motifs from simple raw materials under mild conditions remains rare. In this article, we report a facile protocol for the efficient preparation of various quinoxaline-3-carbonyl compounds(30 examples,63%–92%) through oxidation coupling of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones with readily available carbazates(or acyl hydrazines) in the presence of K_2S_2O_8 as an oxidant in metal-and base-free conditions. When tert-butyl carbazate was used as the coupling reagent,the decarboxylation product 3-(tert-butyl)-1-methylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one was obtained. The application of this process into a gram-scale synthesis can be easily accomplished. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the functionalization of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones via a free-radical pathway.

Development and validation of biomarkers related to anoikis in liver cirrhosis based on bioinformatics analysis

Boosting Oxygen Evolution Reaction Performance on NiFe‑Based Catalysts Through d‑Orbital Hybridization

Anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzers(AEMWEs)for green hydrogen production have received intensive attention due to their feasibility of using earth-abundant NiFe-based *** introducing a third metal into NiFe-based catalysts to construct asymmetrical M-NiFe units,the d-orbital and electronic structures can be adjusted,which is an important strategy to achieve sufficient oxygen evolution reaction(OER)performance in ***,the ternary NiFeM(M:La,Mo)catalysts featured with distinct M-NiFe units and varying d-orbitals are reported in this *** and theoretical calculation results reveal that the doping of La leads to optimized hybridization between d orbital in NiFeM and 2p in oxygen,resulting in enhanced adsorption strength of oxygen intermediates,and reduced rate-determining step energy barrier,which is responsible for the enhanced OER *** critically,the obtained NiFeLa catalyst only requires 1.58 V to reach 1 A cm^(−2) in an anion exchange membrane electrolyzer and demonstrates excellent long-term stability of up to 600 h.

Catalytic effect of visible light and Cd^2+on chalcopyrite bioleaching

The effects of visible light and Cd^2+ion on chalcopyrite bioleaching in the presence of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans(***)were studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction(SR-XRD),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The results of bioleaching after 28 days showed that the copper dissolution increased by 4.96%with only visible light,the presence of Cd2+alone exerted slight inhibition effect on chalcopyrite dissolution and the concentration of dissolved copper increased by 14.70%with visible light and 50 mg/L Cd^2+.The results of chemical leaching showed that visible light can promote the circulation of *** results showed that Cd^2+promoted the attachment of *** on chalcopyrite surface under visible ***-XRD and XPS results indicated that visible light and Cd^2+promoted chalcopyrite dissolution,but did not inhibit the formation of ***,a model of synergistic catalysis mechanism of visible light and Cd2+on chalcopyrite bioleaching was proposed.
