Effects of annealing temperature and cooling rate on microstructures of a novel titanium alloy Ti-6Al-2V-1.5Mo-0.5Zr-0.3Si manufactured by laser additive manufacturing

The microstructure changes of Ti-6Al-2V-1.5Mo-0.5Zr-0.3Si alloy manufactured by laser additive manufacturing （LAM） are systematically investigated with statistical analysis of primary α phase （αp） and secondary α phase （αs） under different annealing conditions. Results indicate that, with the increase in holding temperature, the content of αp lamellas decreases with the increasing αs content, maintaining the total α phases concentration stabilized. The width of αp lamellas and the nominal specific surface area of α phase both exhibit positive correlation with the temperature, while the increment of αp and the widths of αs lamellas show an increase-decrease tendency. Besides, with the decrease in cooling rate, the total content of α and the width of αp lamellas increase, while the nominal specific surface area of α phase shows no significant change. The results indicate that, in the annealing process, the holding temperature determines the surplus and growth interfaces of % lamellas, and the cooling rate influences the nucleation quantity of c^s in unit time. During the cooling stage, the αp lamellas grow initially, and then, the nucleation and crab-like structure growth occur followed by those of the αs lamellas. The time intervals among them are influenced by cooling rate. The mechanism of microstructure formation of the LAMed titanium alloy during annealing stage was discussed, which would guide for the heat treatment method to achieve required microstructure.

Deep spectral learning for label-free optical imaging oximetry with uncertainty quantification

Measurement of blood oxygen saturation(sO_(2))by optical imaging oximetry provides invaluable insight into local tissue functions and *** different embodiments and modalities,all label-free optical-imaging oximetry techniques utilize the same principle of sO_(2)-dependent spectral contrast from *** approaches for quantifying sO_(2) often rely on analytical models that are fitted by the spectral *** approaches in practice suffer from uncertainties due to biological variability,tissue geometry,light scattering,systemic spectral bias,and variations in the experimental ***,we propose a new data-driven approach,termed deep spectral learning(DSL),to achieve oximetry that is highly robust to experimental variations and,more importantly,able to provide uncertainty quantification for each sO_(2) *** demonstrate the robustness and generalizability of DSL,we analyse data from two visible light optical coherence tomography(vis-OCT)setups across two separate in vivo experiments on rat *** made by DSL are highly adaptive to experimental variabilities as well as the depth-dependent backscattering *** neural-network-based models are tested and compared with the traditional least-squares fitting(LSF)*** DSL-predicted sO_(2) shows significantly lower mean-square errors than those of the *** the first time,we have demonstrated en face maps of retinal oximetry along with a pixel-wise confidence *** DSL overcomes several limitations of traditional approaches and provides a more flexible,robust,and reliable deep learning approach for in vivo non-invasive label-free optical oximetry.

Influence of microstructure on the corrosion resistance of Fe–44Ni thin films

An Fe–44Ni nanocrystalline（NC） alloy thin film was prepared through electrodeposition. The relation between the microstructure and corrosion behavior of the NC film was investigated using electrochemical methods and chemical analysis approaches. The results show that the NC film is composed of a face-centered cubic phase（γ-（Fe,Ni）） and a body-centered cubic phase（α-（Fe,Ni）） when it is annealed at temperatures less than 400℃. The corrosion resistance increases with the increase in grain size, and the corresponding corrosion process is controlled by oxygen reduction. The NC films annealed at 500℃ and 600℃ do not exhibit the same pattern, although their grain sizes are considerably large. This result is attributed to the existence of an anodic phase, Fe0.947Ni0.054, in these films. Under this condition, the related corrosion process is synthetically controlled by anodic dissolution and depolarization.

Arabidopsis FHY3 and FAR1 Regulate Light-Induced myo-Inositol Biosynthesis and Oxidative Stress Responses by Transcriptional Activation of MIPS1

myo-lnositol-l-phosphate synthase （MIPS） catalyzes the limiting step of inositol biosynthesis and has crucial roles in plant growth and development. In response to stress, the transcription of MIPS1 is induced and the biosynthesis of inositol or inositol derivatives is promoted by unknown mechanisms. Here, we found that the light signaling protein FAR-RED ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL3 （FHY3） and its homolog FAR- RED IMPAIRED RESPONSE1 （FAR1） regulate light-induced inositol biosynthesis and oxidative stress re- sponses by activating the transcription of MIPS1. Disruption of FHY3 and FAR1 caused light-induced cell death after dark-light transition, precocious leaf senescence, and increased sensitivity to oxidative stress. Reduction of salicylic acid （SA） accumulation by overexpression of SALICYLIC ACID 3-HYDROXYLASE largely suppressed the cell death phenotype of fhy3 far1 mutant plants, suggesting that FHY3- and FARl-mediated cell death is dependent on SA. Furthermore, comparative analysis of chromatin immuno- precipitation sequencing and microarray results revealed that FHY3 and FAR1 directly target both MIPS1 and MIPS2. The fhy3 far1 mutant plants showed severely decreased MIPS1/2 transcript levels and reduced inositol levels. Conversely, constitutive expression of MIPSl partially rescued the inositol contents, caused reduced transcript levels of SA-biosynthesis genes, and prevented oxidative stress in fhy3 far1. Taken together, our results indicate that the light signaling proteins FHY3 and FAR1 directly bind the promoter of MIPS1 to activate its expression and thereby promote inositol biosynthesis to prevent light-induced oxidative stress and SA-dependent cell death.

Enhancing point defect scattering in copper antimony selenides via Sm and S Co-doping

Doping- and alloying-induced point defects lead to mass and strain field fluctuations which can be used as effective strategies to decrease the lattice thermal conductivity and consequently boost the performance of thermoelectric materials. Herein, we report the effects of Sm and S co-doping on thermoelectric transport properties of copper antimony selenides in the temperature range of 300 K 〈 T〈 650 K. Through the Callaway model, it demonstrates that Sm and S co-doping induces strong mass differences and strain field fluctuations in Cu3SbSe4. The results prove that doping with suitable elements can increase point defect scattering of heat-carrying phonons, leading to a lower thermal conductivity and a better ther- moelectric performance. The highest figure of merit （ZT） of - 0.55 at 648 K is obtained for the Sm and S co-doped sample with nominal composition of Cu2.995Sm0.005Sb- Se3.95S0.05, which is about 55% increase compared to the ZT of pristine Cu3SbSe4.

A Comparative Study on Emulsion Polymerization Processes of Styrene Initiated by Water-soluble and Oil-soluble Initiators

The solubility of initiator determines its distribution and the roles played in emulsion polymerization as well as the final products, but this is still lack of systematic investigation. The present work focuses on this issue by comparing the kinetic behaviors and product properties of styrene emulsion polymerization initiated by 2,2-azoisobutyronitrile(AIBN) and potassium persulphate(KPS).Compared to KPS-initiated emulsion polymerization, the AIBN-initiated polymerization was found to be insensitive to the type of emulsifier, and have high polymerization rate as well as narrow molecular weight distribution and particle size distribution. This result indicates the effective free radicals are generated in micelles or colloids, which could decrease the proportion of homogeneous nucleation and make the process and product more controllable. As a consequence, there is a linear relationship between molecular weight of product and AIBN concentration in lg-lg coordinate. It provided a reference for the preparation of latexes with specified molecular weight and supported the possibility of the coexistence of multiple free radicals in one micelle or colloid when using oil-soluble initiator.

Fluidization of non-spherical particles is very common in petroleum *** the complex phenomenon of non-spherical particle flow is of great *** this paper,coupled with two-fluid model,the drag coefficient correlation based on artificial neural network was applied in the simulations of a bubbling fluidized bed filled with non-spherical *** simulation results were compared with the experimental data from the *** agreement between the experimental data and the simulation results reveals that the modified drag model can accurately capture the interaction between the gas phase and solid ***,several cases of different particles,including tetrahedron,cube,and sphere,together with the nylon beads used in the model validation,were employed in the simulations to study the effect of particle shape on the flow behaviors in the bubbling fluidized *** shape affects the hydrodynamics of non-spherical particles mainly on *** work can be a basis and reference for the utilization of artificial neural network in the investigation of drag coefficient correlation in the dense gas-solid two-phase ***,the proposed drag coefficient correlation provides one more option when investigating the hydrodynamics of non-spherical particles in the gas-solid fluidized bed.

As more and more composite materials are used in lightweight vehicle white bodies,self-pierce riveting(SPR)technology has attracted great ***,the existing riveting tools still have the disadvantages of low efficiency and *** improve these disadvantages and the riveting qualification rate,this paper improves the control scheme of the existing riveting tools,and proposes a novel controller design approach of the flexible servo riveting system based on the RBF network and SPR ***,this paper briefly introduces the working principle and SPR procedure of the servo riveting *** a moving component force analysis is performed,which lays the foundation for the motion ***,the riveting quality inspection rules of traditional riveting tools are used for reference to plan the force-displacement curve *** control this process,the riveting force is fed back into the closed-loop control of the riveting tool and the riveting speed is computed based on the admittance control ***,this paper adopts the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM)as the power of riveting tool,and proposes an integral sliding mode control approach based on the improved reaching law and the radial basis function(RBF)network friction compensation for the PMSM speed ***,the proposed control approach is simulated by Matlab,and is applied to the servo riveting system designed by our *** simulation and riveting results show the feasibility of the designed controller.

Dear Editor, Long non-coding RNAs （IncRNAs）, defined as RNA transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides without the protein-coding ability （Carninci et al., 2005）, share many features with protein-coding messenger RNAs （mRNAs） such as polyadenylated 5＇ ends and multi-exonic structures （Guttman et al., 2010）. Though expression levels are less abundant, IncRNAs outnumber mRNAs with more diverse regulatory functions （Quinn and Chang, 2016）. They may serve as decoys, sponges, signals or scaffolds in regulating chromatin conformation, nuclear organization, gene expression, and protein activity in cis or trans manner （Ulitsky and Bartel, 2013; Quinn and Chang, 2016）. LncRNAs are involved in various physiological processes and their lossor gain-offunction mutations have been implicated in the pathogenesis of human diseases （Wapinski and Chang, 2011）.

Staged dendrite suppression for high safe and stable lithium-sulfur batteries

The unavoidable dendrite growth and shuttle effect have long been stranglehold challenges limiting the safety and practicality of lithium-sulfur ***,we propose a dual-action strategy to address the lithium dendrite issue in stages by constructing a multifunctional surface-negatively-charged nanodiamond layer with high ductility and robust puncture resistance on polypropylene （PP） *** uniformly loaded compact negative layer can not only significantly enhance electron transmission efficiency and promote uniform lithium deposition,but also reduce the formation of dendrite during early deposition *** importantly,under the strong puncture stress encountered during the deterioration of lithium dendrite growth under limiting current,the high ductility and robust puncture resistance（145.88 MPa） of as-obtained nanodiamond layer can effectively prevent short circuits caused by unavoidable lithium *** Li||Li symmetrical cells assembled with nanodiamond layer modified PP demonstrated a stable cycle of over 1000 h at 2 mA cm-2with a polarization voltage of only 29.3 ***,the negative charged layer serves as a physical barrier blocking lithium polysulfide ions,effectively mitigating capacity *** improved cells achieved a capacity decay of only 0.042%per cycle after 700 cycles at 3 C,demonstrating effective suppression of dendrite growth and capacity attenuation,showing promising prospect.
