A systematic review of morphological models of salt marshes

Salt marshes are among the most important coastal wetlands and provide critical ecological services,including climate regulation,biodiversity maintenance,and blue carbon ***,most salt marshes worldwide are shrinking,owing to the effects of natural and human factors,such as climate change and artificial ***,it is essential to understand the decline in the morphological processes of salt marshes,and accordingly,the likely evolution of these marshes,in order to enable measures to be taken to mitigate this *** this end,this study presented an extensive systematic review of the current state of morphological models and their application to salt *** emergence of process-based(PB)and data-driven(DD)models has contributed to the development of morphological *** morphodynamic simulations in PB models,multiple physical and biological factors(e.g.,the hydrodynamics of water bodies,sediment erosion,sediment deposition,and vegetation type)have been *** systematic review revealed that PB models have been extended to a broader interdisciplinary ***,most DD models are based on remote sensing database for the prediction of morphological characteristics with latent *** to DD models,PB models are more transparent but can be complex and require a lot of computational ***,to make up for the shortcomings of each model,future studies could couple PB with DD models that consider vegetation,microorganisms,and benthic animals together to simulate or predict the biogeomorphology of salt marsh ***,this review found that there is a lack of unified metrics to evaluate model performance,so it is important to define clear objectives,use multiple metrics,compare multiple models,incorporate uncertainty,and involve experts in the field to provide guidance in the further study.

Relationship between transforming growth factorβ1 and antifibrotic effect of interleukin-10

AIM： To study the effect of interleukin-10 （IL-10） on the expression of transforming growth factor β1 （TGF-β1） in hepatic fibrosis rats and the anti-fibrotic role of exogenous IL-10. METHODS： Hepatic fibrosis was induced by carbon tetrachloride administered （CCh） intraperitoneally. The experiment was performed in two stages. In the first stage, 60 SD rats were divided randomly into normal control group I（GNI, n = 8）, hepatic fibrosis group（GC, n = 28）and IL-10 intervened group（GI, n = 24）. At the beginning of the 7^th and 11^th wk, hepatic stellate cells （HSCs） were isolated, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reation （RT-PCR） and immunocytochemistry were performed to detect the expression of TGF-β1 in HSCs. Histological examination was used to determine the degree of hepatic fibrosis. In the second stage, 47 SD rats were divided randomly into normal control group 2 （GN2, n = 6）and CCh group（GZ, n = 41）. At the end of the 9th week, rats in GZ group were allocated randomly into model group（GM, n = 9）, IL-10 treatment group（GT, n = 9） and recovered group （GR, n = 9）. At the end of the 12^th week, all rats were sacrificed. RT-PCR and immuno- histochemistry were performed to detect the expression of TGF-β1 in liver tissue. ELISA was used to assay serum TGF-β1 levels. RESULTS： Hepatic fibrosis developed in rats with the increase of the injection frequency of CCI4. In the first stage, hepatic fibrosis developed and HSCs were isolated successfully. At the 7^th and 11^th week, TGF-β1 mRNA in GC group increased significantly compared with that in GN1（P = 0.001/0.042） and GI groups（P = 0.001/0.007）, whereas there was no significant difference between the two groups. The levels of TGF-β1 at the beginning of the 7^th wk was higher than that of the 11^th wk （P = 0.049）.Immunocytochemistry results of TGF-β1 were consistent with the above findings. Kai xin San(KXS, containing ginseng, hoelen, polygala, and acorus), a traditional Chinese herbal compound, has been found to regulate cognitive dysfunction; however, its mechanism of action is still unclear. In this study, 72 specific-pathogen-free male Kunming mice aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into a vehicle control group, scopolamine group, low-dose KXS group, moderate-dose KXS group, high-dose KXS group, and positive control group. Except for the vehicle control group and scopolamine groups(which received physiological saline), the doses of KXS(0.7, 1.4 and 2.8 g/kg per day) and donepezil(3 mg/kg per day) were gastrointestinally administered once daily for 2 weeks. On day 8 after intragastric treatment, the behavioral tests were carried out. Scopolamine group and intervention groups received scopolamine 3 mg/kg per day through intraperitoneal injection. The effects of KXS on spatial learning and memory, pathological changes of brain tissue, expression of apoptosis factors, oxidative stress injury factors, synapse-associated protein, and cholinergic neurotransmitter were measured. The results confirmed the following.(1) KXS shortened the escape latency and increased residence time in the target quadrant and the number of platform crossings in the Morris water maze.(2) KXS increased the percentage of alternations between the labyrinth arms in the mice of KXS groups in the Y-maze.(3) Nissl and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling staining revealed that KXS promoted the production of Nissl bodies and inhibited the formation of apoptotic bodies.(4) Western blot assay showed that KXS up-regulated the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and inhibited the expression of pro-apoptotic protein Bax. Optimized cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with congestive heart failure

Heart failure was a major and increasing public health problem, with an almost ＂epidemic＂ increase in the number of patients. Despite recent advances in pharmacotherapy, the prognosis remains poor. Cardiac resynchronization therapy （CRT）, by pacing right and left ventricles, has been proved to improve symptoms and reduce mortality for heart failure patients with cardiac dyssynchrony, However, 20% to 30% of patients did not respond to CRT. The good cardiac synchronicity before CRT and the remaining atrioventficular, inter- and intra-ventricular dyssynchrony after CRT may explain the non-response. New echocardiographic techniques, and in particular tissue Doppler imaging （TDI） analysis, has been proved to be a helpful tool in evaluating cardiac dyssynchrony, as well as in assessing the degree of cardiac resynchronization after biventricular device implantation. So, in this study, we optimized the pacing parameters to determine whether echo-guided optimizing of AV/VV delays would enhance the effect of CRT on cardiac function and synchronicity.

Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is a prevalent microvascular complication of diabetes and the leading cause of blindness and severe visual impairment in *** high levels of glucose trigger multiple intracellular oxidative stress pathways,such as POLDIP2,resulting in excessive reactive oxygen species(ROS)production and increased expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1),hypoxia-inducible factor 1a(HIF-1a),and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),causing microvascular ***(DMY)is a natural flavonoid small molecule ***,it exhibits poor solubility in physiological environments,has a short half-life in vivo,and has low oral *** this study,we present,for the first time,the synthesis of ultra-small Fe-DMY nano-coordinated polymer particles(Fe-DMY NCPs),formed by combining DMY with low-toxicity iron *** vitro and in vivo experiments confirm that Fe-DMY NCPs alleviate oxidative stress-induced damage to vascular endothelial cells by high glucose,scavenge excess ROS,and improve pathological features of DR,such as retinal vascular leakage and *** validation indicates that Fe-DMY NCPs can inhibit the activation of the Poldip2-Nox4-H_(2)O_(2) signaling pathway and downregulate vital vascular function indicators such as VCAM-1,HIF-1a,and *** findings suggest that Fe-DMY NCPs could serve as a safe and effective antioxidant and microangio-protective agent,with the potential as a novel multimeric drug for DR therapy.

Surgical treatment of brachiocephalic vessel involvement in Takayasu＇s arteritis

Background Takayasu＇s arteritis （TA） is a chronic idiopathic inflammatory disease that affects large and medium size arteries. The brachiocephalic trunk is the most frequently involved site in TA, and multi-vessel lesions are common. Surgical treatment includes vessel reconstruction surgery and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty （PTA）. Herein, we report our preliminary experience with surgical treatment of cerebral ischemia caused by cervical arterial lesions due to *** From January 2000 to December 2007, 38 patients with cerebral ischemia caused by cervical arterial occlusive lesions due to TA were treated surgically. There were three males and 35 females, with an age range of 15-42 years （mean 26.5 years）. All patients had operative repairs undertaken. Twenty eight patients received bypass operation and 10 patients received percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. One case with coronary stenosis received coronary artery bypass simultaneously. Patients were followed up for 11 months to eight *** There were no peri-operative deaths in cerebrovascular reconstruction patients. Symptoms of cerebral ischemia were improved or cured in 25 of 38 patients. There was a low incidence of cerebral reperfusion syndrome. Two patients died at five and seven years after surgery due to heart failure. Another 8 patients （20%） required further surgery for stenosis （5 patients） or anastomotic aneurysms （3 patients）. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was performed successfully for treatment of aortic and renal lesions. Repeated angioplasty for revascularization was performed in six PTA cases with restenosis after 5-24 *** When cerebral perfusion has potential to be affected by TA, a definitive corrective procedure is advised when the patient is relatively stable. Objective To explore the brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)、glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF) polymorphisms with the plasma drug concentration and therapeutic efficacy of paroxetine in Chinese Han major depressive disorder(MDD)patients. Methods Hamilton depression rating scale for depression(HAMD) was used to evaluate the efficacy before the research and after treatment on 6 *** MassArray system was used to genotype 22 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNP) of BDNF、GDNF gene,high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection assay was used to determinted of concerntration of paroxetine in 298 MDD patients treated with 20 mg/d paroxetine for 6 *** The MDD patients with genotype GG of rs6265 were associated with lower rates of remission(P<0.05);The MDD patients with genotype TT of rs2910797 were associated with higher rates of remission(P<0.05);The MDD patients with genotype AA of rs2910702 were associated with lower rates of remission(P<0.05).The MDD patients with higher HAMD effective rates were associated with higher plasma drug concentration of paroxetine(P<0.05).Conclusion Among Han Chinese,the polymorphisms of the BDNF、GDNF gene may be associated with the plasma drug concentration and efficacy of paroxetine in MDD patients.

Therapeutic effect of interleukin-10 on CCI_4-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats

AIM： To study the therapeutic effect of exogenous interleuldn-10 on CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats and its passible mechanisms. METHODS： Fourty-seven SD rats were randomly divided into control group （group N） and CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis model group （group C）. After CCl4 was given for 9 wk, the model group was divided into three groups. Rats in group H were put to death immediately, rats in group T were treated with IL-10 for another three wk and then put to death, rats in group R recovered after three weeks and were then killed. The degree of hepatic fibrosis was measured by HE staining and histological activity index （HAI）. Histological activity index （HAI）, change of collagen types Ⅰ and Ⅲ were measured by Picrosirius staining. The expression of TNF-α, HHP-2 and TIMP-1 in liver tissue was measured by S-P immunohis tochemistry.RESULTS： CCl4- induced experimental rat hepatic fibrosis model was established successfully. The degree of hepatic fibrosis was markedly lower in group T than in groups H and R, and there was no difference between the two groups. The expression of collagen types I and III was significantly suppressed in group T and was slightly suppressed in groups H and R. The positive levels of TNF-α, HHP-2 and TIHP-1 in group H increased significantly compared to those in group N （P〈0.01）. The positive signals decreased significantly in groups T and R （P〈0.01）, but positive score was significantly lower in group T than in group R （P〈 0.01）. CONCLUS10N： Exogenous IL-10 can reverse CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats. IL-10 may exert its reversible effects on hepatic fibrosis by blocking CCl4-induced inflammation, inhibiting expression of HHP-2 and TIMP-1 and promoting resolution of collagen types Ⅰ and Ⅲ.

Cells are the fundamental units of biological systems and exhibit unique development trajectories and molecular features. Our exploration of how the genomes orchestrate the formation and maintenance of each cell, and control the cellular phenotypes of various organismsis, is both captivating and intricate. Since the inception of the first single-cell RNA technology, technologies related to single-cell sequencing have experienced rapid advancements in recent years. These technologies have expanded horizontally to include single-cell genome, epigenome,proteome, and metabolome, while vertically, they have progressed to integrate multiple omics data and incorporate additional information such as spatial sc RNA-seq and CRISPR screening. Single-cell omics represent a groundbreaking advancement in the biomedical field,offering profound insights into the understanding of complex diseases, including cancers. Here, we comprehensively summarize recent advances in single-cell omics technologies, with a specific focus on the methodology section. This overview aims to guide researchers in selecting appropriate methods for single-cell sequencing and related data analysis.
