Comparison of bulk snow density measurements using different methods

Snow density is one of the basic properties used to describe snow cover characteristics,and it is critical for remote sensing retrieval,water resources assessment and modeling *** are many instruments available to measure snow density in ***,there are mea-surement errors of snow density for bulk and layers or gravimetric and electronic instruments,which may affect the accuracy of remote sensing retrieval and model *** in China,due to the noticeable heterogeneity of snowpacks,it is necessary to evaluate in detail the performance and applicability of snow density instruments in different snowpack *** study evaluated the performance of different snow density instruments:the Federal Sampler,the model VS-43 snow density cylinder(VS-43),the wedge snow density cutter(WC1000 and WC25O),and the Snow *** average bulk snow density of all instrument measurements was set as the reference value for *** results showed that as compared with the reference,the VS-43 cylinder presented the best performance for bulk snow density measurement in the measured range with the lowest RMSE(11 kg m^(-3)),BIAS(3 kg m^(-3)),and MRE(1.6%).For layer observation,bulk snow density was overestimated by 8.1%with WC1000 and underestimated by 11.4%with Snow Fork which was the worst performance compared with the reference value,and there were greater measurement errors of snow density in the depth hoar than other snow *** with grassland,the uncertainty of snow density measurements was slightly lower in ***,the Federal Sampler and VS-43 cylinder are more suitable for bulk snow density measurement in deep snowpack regions across China,and it is recommended to use WC1000,WC250 and Snow Fork to measure the snow density of snow layers in the snow stratigraphy.

Rain-on-snow(ROS)events can cause rapid snowmelt,leading to flooding and avalanches in the pan-Arctic and can also lead to starvation and the death of massive *** products(e.g.,ERA-I,ERA5-land,JRA55,MERRA2)are the primary source data for the research about ROS events in the large-scale ***,the accuracy and reliability of reanalyses have never been evaluated with respect to the determination of terrestrial ROS *** present study aims to statistically evaluate the performance of reanalysis datasets in identifying ROS events with different criteria based on in-situ rainfall data and MODIS snow cover *** results show that all reanalysis datasets exhibit poor performance(Recall≤0.16,Kappa coefficient≤0.26,F-score≤0.42,MCC≤0.33)in all criteria in the pan-Arctic,mainly due to the low accuracy of rainfall data(r≤0.56).Nevertheless,the spatial distribution pattern and hot spots of ROS from all reanalysis datasets are essentially *** hot spots of ROS are mainly located on the coast of Alaska,Norway,and *** reanalyses demonstrate an increase in rainy days,but there is little overall change in ROS events due to the reduction in snow cover *** work suggests that none of the current reanalyses are reliable in the determination of ROS events due to the poor representation of the rainfall parameterization *** development of alternative strategies that can investigate ROS events at large-scale is urgently needed in a changing Arctic under rapid warming.

Metal-organic frameworks with dinuclear metal centers for synergistically boosting CO2 photoreduction

Dinuclear metal synergistic catalysis （DMSC） has been proved powerful in boosting CO2reduction,while this has not been achieved in heterogeneous catalysts with long-range order *** this study,we,by introduction of metal catalytic centers into an indium-based metal-organic framework （MOF）,obtained a series of isostructural In-MOFs,including three MOFs with mononuclear metal catalytic center （M-In）,three MOFs with dinuclear homometallic catalytic centers （MM-In）,and three MOFs with dinuclear heterometallic catalytic centers (MM’-In,M/M’=Co（II）,Ni（II）,Zn（II）).It was found that all these MOFs can serve as catalysts for photochemical CO2reduction to *** with M-In,the catalytic activities of MM-In were obviously enhanced,and that of MM’-In was further significantly *** example,the CO yield of Co Zn-In reaches a record value of 12,700μmol g-1h-1,which is 4.0,8.1,9.4,and 18.6-fold higher than that of Co Co-In,Zn Zn-In,Co-In,and Zn-In,***,the catalytic activities of Co Ni-In and Ni Zn-In also show different fold increase than those of corresponding dinuclear homometallic and mononuclear metallic *** results of control experiments and theoretical calculation reveal that the higher catalytic activities of MM-In over M-In can be ascribed to the DMSC effect,and the higher catalytic activity of MM’-In over MM-In can be ascribed to the strengthened DMSC *** work reveals the relationship between DMSC effect and bimetal centers in CO2reduction,which provides new insights into the DMSC and paves a new way to design highly active catalysts for photochemical CO2reduction.

Thermoelectric properties of (GeTe)_(1-x)[(Ag_(2)Te)_(0.4)(Sb_(2)Te_(3))_(0.6)]_(x) alloys

The(GeTe)_(x)(AgSbTe_(2))_(100-x)alloys(TAGS-x)have been demonstrated as a promising p-type candidate for thermoelectric applications,attracting numerous atten-tions on the advancements of thermoelectric *** of carrier concentration for optimizing ther-moelectric performance in TAGS can be achieved by varying the ratio of Ag to Sb,and the Ag/Sb ratio of~2/3 has been proven as the optimal ***,this work focuses on the systematic investigation on ther-moelectric properties of(GeTe)_(1-x)[(Ag_(2)Te)_(0.4)(Sb_(2)Te_(3))_(0.6)]_(x) *** crystal structure for the alloys transfers from rhombohedral to cubic at room temperature as x≥*** evolution of band parameter is estimated using a single parabolic band(SPB)model with acoustic phonon *** density of states effective mass increases with x increasing,which leads to an enhancement of Seebeck coefficient along with a reduction in Hall mobility due to the additional carrier scattering by point ***-while,the lattice thermal conductivity of lower than~0.7 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1) in the entire temperature range and the lowest one of only 0.45 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1) is achieved due to additional phonon scattering by point *** a result,a peak thermoelectric figure of merit(zT)of~1.80 and an average one of~1.37 in 300–800 K are realized in non-stoichiometric TAGS alloys here.

The chromosomal position effect can significantly affect the transgene expression,which may provide an efficient strategy for the inauguration of alien genes in new hosts,but has been less explored *** bacterium Myxococcus xanthus harbors a large circular high-GC genome,and the position effect in this chassis may result in a thousand-fold expression variation of alien natural *** this study,we conducted transposon insertion at TA sites on the *** genome,and used enrichment and dilution indexes to respectively appraise high and low expression potentials of alien genes at insertion *** enrichment sites are characteristically distributed along the genome,and the dilution sites are overlapped well with the horizontal transfer *** experimentally demonstrated the enrichment sites as high expression integration sites(HEISs),and the dilution sites unsuitable for gene integration *** work highlights that HEISs are the plug-and-play sites for efficient expression of integrated genes.

We analytically and numerically investigate the dynamical properties of the tilted dispersion relativistic quasiparticles emerged in a cold atomic optical lattice *** introducing the next nearest neighboring(NNN)hopping term into Su-Schrieffer-Heeger(SSH)model,the Dirac quasiparticles with tilted dispersion relation are *** results show that the tilted dispersion causes a drift in relativistic quasiparticles rather than affecting interference behavior between inner *** be specific,the relativistic phenomena of the quasiparticles induced by the inner state interference(such as Zitterbewegung,Klein paradox,etc.)is completely unaffected by the tilted *** order to distinguish the drift induced by tilted dispersion and common initial velocity,we calculate the momentum distribution of the relativistic *** obtain the difference between the drift induced by initial velocity and tilted *** former affects the ZB,while the latter does *** using this character,we propose a quench dynamics scheme to obtain a stable mono-spin *** proposed cold atomic lattice system would provide a promising platform in exploring the intrinsic exotic physics of relativistic quasiparticles and the related systems.

Formation of Singularity for Full Compressible Magnetohydrodynamic Equations with Zero Resistivity in Two Dimensional Bounded Domains

We are concerned with singularity formation of strong solutions to the two-dimensional(2D)full compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations with zero resistivity in a bounded *** energy method and critical Sobolev inequalities of logarithmic type,we show that the strong solution exists globally if the temporal integral of the maximum norm of the deformation tensor is *** result is the same as Ponce’s criterion for 3D incompressible Euler *** particular,it is independent of the magnetic field and ***,the initial vacuum states are allowed.

Electrochemical preparation of titanium and titanium–copper alloys with K_2Ti_6O_(13) in KF–KCl melts

To investigate the electrodeposition mechanism of Ti^4＋, electrochemistry experiments were conducted using a KF-KCl-K2Ti6O13 molten salt at a Cu electrode at 950 ℃. Transient electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry（CV） and square-wave voltammetry were used in this study. The main phases and compositions of the product were analyzed by X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, and energy-dispersive spectrometry（EDS）. The resulting product has the structure of metallic Ti. The results indicate that Ti^4＋ is reduced to metallic Ti by a two-step mechanism, corresponding to the reduction pathway： Ti^4＋→ Ti^2＋→ Ti. Moreover, Cu-Ti alloy could be obtained by the potentiostatic electrolysis at a Cu electrode.

Constructing central hollow cylindrical reduced graphene oxide foams with vertically and radially orientated porous channels for highly efficient solar-driven water evaporation and purification

Although solar steam generation is an eco-friendly approach for desalinating seawater and purifying wastewater,there are still issues on how to improve the efficiency of solar energy utilization and accelerate the water and heat transport inside the solardriven water ***,we design a central hollow cylindrical reduced graphene oxide(RGO)foam with vertically and radially orientated channels as a solar steam generation device for efficient water evaporation and *** vertically aligned porous channels accelerate upward transport of water to the top evaporation surface,while the radially aligned porous channels facilitate water transport and heat transfer along the radial directions for fully utilizing the heat accumulated inside the central cylindrical hole of the *** central hole of the foam plays a highly positive role in accumulating more heat for accelerating the water evaporation,the newly generated inner sidewall resulted from the central hole can gain extra thermal energy from surrounding environment in the same way as the outer sidewall of the foam due to the surface cooling effect of the water *** a result,the vertically and radially aligned RGO foam evaporator with central hollow cylinder achieves a high solar steam generation rate of 2.32 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1)with an exceptional energy conversion efficiency of 120.9%under 1-sun irradiation,superior to the vertically aligned RGO foam without the central hole(1.83 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1),96.9%)because of the enhanced water and heat transfer inside the porous channels,the efficient utilization of environmental energy.
