Dynamic response of buildings under debris flow impact

This study employs the smoothed particle hydrodynamics–finite element method(SPH–FEM) coupling numerical method to investigate the impact of debris flow on reinforced concrete(RC)-frame buildings. The methodology considers the variables of debris flow depth and velocity and introduces the intensity index IDV(IDV = DV) to evaluate three different levels of debris flow impact intensity. The primary focus of this study is to investigate the dynamic response and failure mechanism of RC-frame buildings under debris flow impact, including structural failure patterns, impact force and column displacement. The results show that under a highintensity impact, a gradual collapse process of the RCframe building can be observed, and the damage mode of the frame column reflects shear failure or plastic hinge failure mechanism. First, the longitudinal infill walls are damaged owing to their low out-of-plane flexural capacity;the critical failure intensity index IDV value is approximately 7.5 m2/s. The structure cannot withstand debris flows with an intensity index IDV greater than 16 m2/s, and it is recommended that the peak impact force should not exceed 2100 k N. The impact damage ability of debris flow on buildings mostly originates from the impact force of the frontal debris flow, with the impact force of the debris flow body being approximately 42% lower than that of the debris flow head. Finally, a five-level classification system for evaluating the damage status of buildings is proposed based on the numerical simulation and investigation results of the disaster site.

Zeolite-encaged gold catalysts for the oxidative condensation of furfural

The oxidative condensation between renewable furfural and fatty alcohols is a crucial avenue for producing high-quality liquid fuels and valuable furan derivatives. The selectivity control in this reaction process remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report the strategy of confining well dispersed gold species within ZSM-5 structure to construct highly active Au@ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts for the oxidative condensation of furfural. Characterization results and spectroscopy analyses demonstrate the efficient encapsulation of isolated and cationic Au clusters in zeolite structure. Au@ZSM-5(K) catalyst shows remarkable performance with 69.7% furfural conversion and 90.2% furan-2-acrolein selectivity as well as good recycle stability. It is revealed that the microstructure of ZSM-5 zeolite can significantly promote oxidative condensation activity through confinement effects. This work presents an explicit example of constructing zeolite encaged noble metal catalysts toward targeted chemical transformations.

Rock physical characteristics of deep dolomite under complex geological conditions: A case study of 4th Member of Sinian dengying Formation in the Sichuan Basin, China

The deep-ultra deep carbonate reservoir in China, commonly subjected to modification of multi-stage diagenesis, has extremely high heterogeneity. Conventional rock physics analysis cannot accurately identify the elastic responses of reservoir. Here, the rock physics properties of the dolomite from the 4th Member of the Sinian dengying Formation are experimentally measured, and the change law of rock physics characteristics is investigated within the framework of the diagenetic processes by the analysis of the elastic and petrologic characteristics, pore structure, and sedimentary environments. The results show that the differentiated diagenesis results in different pore structure characteristics and microtexture characteristics of the rock. The microbial dolomite of the algal mound-grain beach facies is subjected to the contemporaneous microbial dolomitization and seepage-reflux dolomitization, penecontemporaneous selective dissolution, burial dolomitization, and hydrothermal dolomitization. The resultant crystalline dolomite is found with one main type of the dolomite crystal contact boundaries,and the dissolution pore is extensive development. The siliceous, muddy, and limy dolomite of the interbeach sea environment mainly experiences the weak capillary concentration dolomitization, intensive mechanical compaction-induced densification, and burial dolomitization. Such crystalline dolomite is observed with four types of contact boundaries, namely the dolomite contact, clay contact, quartz contact, and calcite contact boundaries, and porosity mostly attributed to residual primary inter-granular or crystalline pores. The samples with the same crystal boundary condition have consistent correlations between the compressional-and shear-wave velocities, and between the compressional-wave velocity and the velocity ratio. Use of evergreen and deciduous plants by nocturnal-roosting birds:A case study in Beijing

With continually increasing urbanization,the land cover in urban areas continues to change,resulting in the loss of *** are highly sensitive to changes in *** forest birds perch on plants that provide increased safety to reduce the risk of predation,and small birds may also consider insulation when using roosting plants in winter because of cold *** plants thus shape the nocturnal roosting environment of urban birds,and proper planting is essential for the survival of birds at *** use of roosting plants by urban birds should therefore be studied to provide a reference for *** the current study,we observed 1865 nocturnal roosting birds in Beijing from 2021 to 2022,with 23 species of birds from 12 families and 45 species of plants from 22 families *** chinensis exhibited the highest bird rarity-weighted richness,followed by Fraxinus pennsylvanica,Phyllostachys propinqua,Pinus tabuliformis,and Ulmus *** diameter at breast height,tree height,and crown width of plants used by birds was largest in summer and smallest in winter,and the perch height of birds was the highest in spring and summer and the lowest in *** used the highest proportion of deciduous plants in summer and the highest proportion of evergreen plants in winter.A significant seasonal difference in the use of evergreen and deciduous plants by small birds was noted,with a preference for deciduous plants in summer and evergreen plants in winter,while this preference was not found in large *** findings indicate that evergreen plants provide a vital nocturnal roosting environment for small birds in *** provide a better nocturnal roosting habitat for urban birds,we recommend paying attention to the combination of evergreen and deciduous plants when carrying out landscape construction.

Conductive catalysis by subsurface transition metals

The nature of catalysis has been hotly pursued for over a century, and current research is focused on understanding active centers and their electronic structures. Herein, the concept of conductive catalysis is proposed and verified by theoretical simulations and experimental observations. Metallic systems containing buried catalytically active transitional metals and exposed catalytically inert main group metals are constructed, and the electronic interaction between them via metallic bonding is disclosed. Through the electronic interaction, the catalytic properties of subsurface transitional metals(Pd or Rh) can be transferred to outermost main group metals(Al or Mg) for several important transformations like semi-hydrogenation,Suzuki-coupling and hydroformylation. The catalytic force is conductive, in analogy with the magnetic force and electrostatic force. The traditional definition of active centers is challenged by the concept of conductive catalysis and the electronic nature of catalysis is more easily understood. It might provide new opportunities for shielding traditional active centers against poisoning or leaching and allow for precise regulation of their catalytic properties by the conductive layer.

Qubit Mapping Based on Tabu Search

The goal of qubit mapping is to map a logical circuit to a physical device by introducing additional gates as few as possible in an acceptable amount of *** present an effective approach called Tabu Search Based Adjustment(TSA)algorithm to construct the *** consists of two key steps:one is making use of a combined subgraph isomorphism and completion to initialize some candidate mappings,and the other is dynamically modifying the mappings by *** experiments show that,compared with state-of-the-art methods,TSA can generate mappings with a smaller number of additional gates and have better scalability for large-scale circuits.

Quantitative characterizations of anisotropic dynamic properties in organic-rich shale with different kerogen content

Understanding the quantitative responses of anisotropic dynamic properties in organic-rich shale with different kerogen content(KC)is of great significance in hydrocarbon exploration and *** controlled experiments with a single variable is challenging for natural shales due to their high variations in components,diagenesis conditions,or pore *** employed the hot-pressing technique to construct 11 well-controlled artificial shale with varying *** artificial shale samples were successive machined into prismatic shape for ultrasonic measurements along different *** revealed bedding perpendicular P-wave velocities are more sensitive to the increasing KC than bedding paralleling velocities due to the preferential alignments of *** elastic stiffnesses except C_(13)are generally decreasing with the increasing KC,the variation of C_(1) and C_(33)on kerogen content are more sensitive than those of C_(44)and C_(66).Apparent dynamic mechanical parameters(v and E)were found to have linear correlation with the true ones from complete anisotropic equations independent of KC,which hold value towards the interpretation of well logs consistently across formations,Anisotropic mechanical parameters(ΔE and brittlenessΔB)tend to decrease with the reducing KC,withΔB showing great sensitivity to KC *** the range of low KC(10%)shale,compilation of data from natural organic rich-shales globally verified the similar systematic relationships that can be empirically used to predict the fraction of KC in shales.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of Co-28Cr-6Mo-0.22C investment castings by current solution treatment

This study examined the impact of current solution treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Co-28Cr-6Mo-0.22C alloy investment *** findings reveal that the current solution treatment significantly promotes the dissolution of carbides at a lower *** optimal conditions for solution treatment are determined as a solution temperature of 1,125°C and a holding time of 5.0 *** these parameters,the size and volume fraction of precipitated phases in the investment castings are measured as6.2μm and 1.1vol.%.The yield strength,ultimate tensile strength,and total elongation of the Co-28Cr-6Mo-0.22C investment castings are 535 MPa,760 MPa,and 12.6%,*** values exceed those obtained with the conventional solution treatment at 1,200°C for 4.0 *** findings suggest a phase transformation of M_(23)C_(6)→σ+C following the current solution treatment at 1,125°C for 5.0 *** comparison,the traditional solution treatment at 1,200°C for 4.0 h leads to the formation of M_(23)C_(6)and M_(6)C *** is noteworthy that the non-thermal effect of the current during the solution treatment modifies the free energy of both the matrix and precipitation *** modification lowers the phase transition temperature of the M_(23)C_(6)→σ+C reaction,thereby facilitating the dissolution of *** a result,the current solution treatment approach achieves carbide dissolution at a lower temperature and within a significantly shorter time when compared to the traditional solution treatment methods.

Two-dimensional(2D)lead halide perovskites have attracted tremendous attention due to their outstanding physical ***,the presence of toxic lead is a major problem for large-scale ***,we report the synthesis,phase transition,dielectric and photoluminescence(PL)properties of a lead-free 2D Ge-based perovskite(BIM)2GeI4(BIM=benzimidazolium)which experiences a phase transition at 405 K accompanied by an order-disorder change of organic ***,the step-like dielectric transition near the phase transition temperature makes it suitable for dielectric ***,(BIM)2GeI4 has a direct bandgap of 2.23 eV and broadband emission from 550 to 1000 nm,implying its unique optical property for potential near-infrared lighting and *** work provides a fresh example for the development of lead-free 2D Ge-based perovskite with potential applications in the fields of optoelectronics and high temperature dielectric switching.
