Hexachlorobutadiene emissions from typical chemical plants

Hexachlorobutadiene(HCBD)was classed as a persistent organic pollutant under the Stockholm Convention in *** is mainly an unintentionally produced by-product of chlorinated hydrocarbon(e.g.,trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene)*** studies of HCBD formation during chemical production processes have been performed,so HCBD emissions from these potentially important sources are not *** this study,HCBD concentrations in raw materials,intermediate products,products,and bottom residues from chemical plants producing chlorobenzene,trichloroethylene,and tetrachloroethylene were *** results indicated that HCBD is unintentionally produced at much higher concentrations in trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene plants than chlorobenzene *** sum of the HCBD concentrations in the samples from all of the trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene production stages in plant PC was 247000µg/mL,about three orders of magnitude higher than the concentrations in the tetrachloroethylene production samples(plant PB)and about six orders of magnitude higher than the concentrations in the chlorobenzene production samples(plant PA).The HCBD concentrations were highest in bottom residues from all of the *** concentrations in the bottom residue samples contributed 24%–99%of the total HCBD formed in the chemical production *** bottom residue,being hazardous waste,could be disposed of by *** HCBD concentrations were much higher in intermediate products than raw materials,indicating that HCBD formed during production of the intended *** results indicate the concentrations of HCBD unintentionally produced in typical chemical plants and will be useful in developing protocols for controlling HCBD emissions to meet the Stockholm Convention requirements.

Modification of Nano Tourmaline Surface Treatment Agent and Its Performance on Negative Ion Release

In this paper,a kind of wall fabric’s surface treatment agent modified with nonionic surfactant was *** surface treatment agent was prepared by using nano tourmaline powder dispersion in water with surfactant as dispersants by sand *** the influence of different dispersants,the negative ions releasing amount of functional wall fabrics,the milling process and the storage stability of nano tourmaline powder dispersion were *** results showed that nano tourmaline powder dispersion achieved the smallest average diameter of 44 nm and had best storage stability that the average diameter maintained below 200 nm in 17 days when the addition amount of dispersant was 20 percent of the tourmaline powders’*** is more,the quantity of negative ion releasing achieved 6500 ion/cm3 when addition amount of dispersant was 30 *** technique could be used to strengthen productivity of nano tourmaline powder dispersion.

Silver nanoparticles embedded temperature-sensitive nanofibrous membrane as a smart free-standing SERS substrate

To develop a smart free-standing surface enhanced Raman scattering(SERS) substrate,silver nanoparticles(AgNPs) embedded temperature-sensitive nanofibrous membrane was fabricated by electrospinning their aqueous solution containing the copolymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-Nhydroxymethylacrylamide),followed by heat treatment to form crosslinking structure within its constituent *** avoid negative effect of the additive like stabilizer and the reactant like reductant on their SERS efficiency,the AgNPs were in-situ synthesized through reducing Ag^+ions dissolved in the polymer solution by ultraviolet *** prepared hybrid nanofibrous membrane with high stability in aqueous medium can reach its swelling or deswelling equilibrium state within 15 seconds with the medium temperature changing between 25℃and 50℃*** it was used as a free-standing SERS substrate,10^-12 mol/L of 4-nitrothiophenol in aqueous solution can be detected at room temperature,and elevating detection temperature can further lower its low detection *** its generated SERS signal has desirable reproducibility,it can be used as SERS substrate for quantitative ***,the hybrid membrane as SERS substrate is capable of real-time monitoring the reduction of 4-nitrothiophenol into 4-aminothiophenol catalyzed by its embedded AgNPs,and the detected intermediate indicates that the reaction proceeds via a condensation route.

Mass spectrometry-based proteomic approaches to study pathogenic bacteria-host interactions

Elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying host- pathogen interactions is important for control and treatment of infectious diseases worldwide. Within the last decade, mass spectrometry （MS）-based proteomics has become a powerful and effective approach to better understand complex and dynamic host-pathogen inter- actions at the protein level. Herein we will review the recent progress in proteomic analyses towards bacterial infection of their mammalian host with a particular focus on enteric pathogens. Large-scale studies of dynamic proteomic alterations during infection will be discussed from the perspective of both pathogenic bacteria and host cells.

Effect of Rapid Thermal Process on Oxygen Precipitates in Heavily Sb-Doped Silicon Wafer

Oxygen precipitates in heavily Sb-doped silicon after rapid thermal process (RTP) in Ar ambient were investigated by RTP at high temperature following annealing at 800 ℃ for 4 h and 1000 ℃ for 16 h. RTP temperature and cooling rates were changed from 1200 to 1260 ℃ and from 10 to 100 ℃·s-1, respectively. The experiment results show that high density of oxygen precipitates is observed in heavily Sb-doped wafer. It is found that the oxygen precipitates in heavily Sb-doped silicon are enhanced at high cooling rate.

Effectiveness of redcore lotion in patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis: a systematic review and Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:To summarize and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Redcore lotion on treating vulvovaginal candidiasis(VVC)using a systematic review and Meta-analysis of randomized controlled ***:A systematic literature search was performed in five English and three Chinese electronic databases up to October *** controlled trials in the treatment for VVC were included;only studies which compared the effectiveness and safety of Redcore lotion plus miconazole with miconazole alone were *** risk(RR)and 95%confidence intervals(CI)were used in the ***:Seven studies involving 768 patients suffering from VVC were identified;468 of the patients were pregnant women(60.9%).Combination group(Redcore lotion plus miconazole)was more effective in redu CIng symptomatic episodes of VVC than miconazole alone,with respect to cure rate(RR,1.31;95%CI,1.09-1.57;P=0.01),fungal culture negative rate(RR,1.21;95%CI,1.04-1.41;P=0.01),and effective rate(RR,1.18;95%CI,1.05-1.35;P=0.01).Subgroup analyses for pregnant women also showed that the combination group had superior outcomes with respect to VVC cure rate(RR,1.48;95%CI,1.16-1.88,P<0.01),fungal culture negative rate(RR,1.26;95%CI;1.09-1.47;P<0.01),and effective rate(RR,1.25;95%CI,1.10-1.42;P<0.01).Additionally,the observed risk of adverse events was lower in the combination medication group(RR,0.30;95%CI,0.14-0.65;P<0.01).CONCLUSIONS:Though overall quality of individual studies was low,Redcore lotion plus miconazole can significantly improve clinical effectiveness and safety compared with miconazole alone.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary administration of L-arginine(Arg)or N-carbamylglutamate(NCG)on hepatic energy status and mitochondrial functions in suckling Hu lambs with intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR).Forty-eight newborn Hu lambs of 7 d old were allocated into 4 treatment groups of 12 lambs each,in triplicate with 4 lambs per replicate(2 males and 2 females)as follows:CON(lambs of normal birth weight,4.25±0.14 kg),IUGR(3.01±0.12 kg),IUGR+1%Arg(2.99±0.13 kg),or IUGR+0.1%NCG(3.03±0.11 kg).The experiment lasted for 21 d,until d 28 after birth,and all lambs were fed milk replacer as a basal *** with IUGR lambs,NCG or Arg administration increased(P<0.05)the adenosine triphosphate(ATP)level and the activities of com-plexes I/III/IV,isocitrate dehydrogenase and citrate synthase in the *** with CON lambs,the relative mRNA levels of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinaseα1(AMPKα1),peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorγcoactivator-1α(PGC1α)and transcription factor A(TFAM)were increased(P<0.05)in the liver of IUGR lambs,but were decreased(P<0.05)in the liver of NCG-or Arg-treated lambs compared with those in the IUGR *** with IUGR lambs,NCG or Arg administration decreased(P<0.05)the total AMPKα(tAMPKα)-to-phosphorylated AMPKα(pAMPKα)ratio and the protein expression of PGC1αand *** results suggested that dietary Arg or NCG supplements improved hepatic energy status and mitochondrial function and inhibited the AMPK-PGC1α-TFAM pathway in IUGR suckling lambs.

Do Poor Rural Households Produce Less Grain than Non-poor Rural Households

China＇s poor rural households produce substantially less grain compared with non-poor rural households. The present paper applies a decomposition approach and uses China＇s rural household survey data to investigate the causes of this grain output gap The paper first compares the grain output gap between poor and non-poor rural households, and then decomposes the gap into differences in yield and area sown, The results indicate that the gap in grain output mainly results from differences in the amount of inputs used in production. Differences in the number of labor days and the level of intermediate inputs account for 13.6 and 47.S percent of the gap, respectively. Poor rural households are also less efficient in their use of intermediate inputs, which contributes to 13.2percent of the gap. However, the efficiency of poor households＂ labor days reduces the gap by 7.2 percent, while agricultural physical capital, househoM head education and agricultural training have no substantial impact on the household grain output gap.

Chaotic electrical stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus-mossy fiber sprouting, epileptic seizures, and brain electrical activity in pentylenetetrazol-kindled rats

BACKGROUND： Previous studies have demonstrated that appropriate interventions can alter brain electrical activity of epileptic patients prior to and during a seizure, leading to maintenance of a highly chaotic state, thereby inhibiting abnormal epileptic discharges, and eventually controlling epileptic seizure. OBJECTIVE： This study was designed to observe the effects of chaotic electrical stimulation to the subthalamic nucleus on mossy fiber sprouting, epileptic seizures, and electrical discharges, and to summarize the most suitable intervention. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： This randomized grouping, neuroelectrophysiological study was performed at the Laboratory of Neurology, Union Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University in September 2007. MATERIALS： Fifty-five healthy, male, Sprague Dawley rats were subjected to an epileptic model by an intraperitoneal injection of pentylenetetrazol. The YC-2 programmed electrical stimulator was provided by Chengdu Instrument Factory, China; the video electroencephalographic system （KT-88-2400） and 24-hour active electroencephalographic system were products of Contec Medical System Co., Ltd., China; pentylenetetrazol was purchased from Sigma, USA. METHODS： The present interventional method consisted of electrical stimulation to the subthalamic nucleus with an intensity of 500 μA, pulse width 0.05 ms, frequency 30 Hz, and a duration of 20 minutes for 14 successive days. Fifty-five rats were divided into 6 groups：（1） pre-stimulation （n = 10）, pentylenetetrazol was administered and 30 minutes later, chaotic electrical stimulation was performed; （2） synchronous stimulation （n = 10）, rats received pentylenetetrazol and chaotic electrical stimulation concurrently; （3） post-administration stimulation （n = 10）, after pentylenetetrazol administration, chaotic electrical stimulation was performed immediately after cessation of a seizure; （4） sham-stimulation （n = 10）, following pentylenetetrazol administration, an electrode was conn

Alzheimer's disease treated with combined therapy based on nourishing marrow and reinforcing Qi

OBJECTIVE:To study the efficacy and safety of combined Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) therapy based on nourishing marrow to improve intellect and reinforcing Qi to activate bloodon mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease(AD).METHODS:Sixty-six patients with AD,whoseMini-Mental State Examination(MMSE) score were from 10-24,were randomized equally into an intervention group and a control *** control group was given Aricept(5 mg,once daily).The intervention group was further divided into Yang-Qi deficiency(n = 18) and of Yin-Qi deficiency(n = 15)*** in the Yang-Qi deficiency group were intravenously administered Shenfu injection,60 mL,and deproteinized calf blood injection(DCBl),1.2 g,once *** Yin-Qi deficiency group was given Shenmai injection,60 mL,and DCBl,1.2 g,once *** course lasted 21 ***:Compared with the control group and with pre-treatment in the same group,MMSE,clinical dementia rating,and activities of daily living scale scores in the intervention group were significantly improved(all P0.05).No adverse effects were observed in any group during ***:We found that combined TCM therapy is effective and safe for managing mild to moderate AD.
