Minerals in Portland cement including tricalcium silicate(C_(3)S),β-dicalcium silicate(β-C_(2)S),tricalcium aluminate(C_(3)A),and tetracalcium ferroaluminate(C_(4)AF),sh.w a significantly different activity and product evolution for CO_(2)curing at various water-to-solid *** pure minerals were synth.sized and subject to CO_(2)curing in th.s study to make an in-depth.understanding for th. carbonation properties of cement-based *** sh.wed th.t th. optimum water-to-solid ratios of C_(3)S,β-C_(2)S,C_(3)A and C_(4)AF were 0.25,0.15,0.30 and 0.40 for carbonation,corresponding to 2 h.carbonation degree of 38.5%,38.5%,24.2%,and 21.9%,*** produced calcite duringβ-C_(2)S carbonation decreased as th. water-to-solid ratio increased,with.an increase in content of metastable CaCO_(3)of vaterite and *** th.rmodynamic stability of CaCO_(3)produced during carbonation was C_(3)A>C_(4)AF>β-C_(2)S>C_(3)*** carbonation degree of Portland cement was predicted based on th. results of pure minerals and th. composition of cement,and th. error of predicted production of CaCO_(3)was only 1.1%,wh.ch.provides a potential meth.d to predict carbonation properties of systems with.a complex mineral composition.

Th. precipitation of Fe_(3)O_(4)particles and th. accompanied formation of Fe_(3)O_(4)-wrapped copper structure are th. main obstacles to copper recovery from th. molten slag during th. pyrometallurgical smelting of copper ***,th. commercial powdery pyrite or anth.acite is replaced with.pyrite-anth.acite pellets as th. reductants to remove a large amount of Fe_(3)O_(4)particles in th. molten slag,resulting in a deep fracture in th. Fe_(3)O_(4)-wrapped copper microstructure and th. full exposure of th. copper matte *** 1wt%composite pellet is used as th. reductant,th. copper matte droplets are enlarged greatly from 25μm to a size observable by th. naked eye,with.th. copper content being enrich.d remarkably from 1.2wt%to 4.5wt%.Density functional th.ory calculation results imply th.t th. formation of th. Fe_(3)O_(4)-wrapped copper structure is due to th. preferential adh.sion of Cu_(2)S on th. Fe_(3)O_(4)particles.X-ray ph.toelectron spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR),and Raman spectroscopy results all reveal th.t th. h.gh.efficiency conver-sion of Fe_(3)O_(4)to FeO can decrease th. volume fraction of th. solid ph.se and promote th. depolymerization of silicate network *** a consequence,th. settling of copper matte droplets is enh.nced due to th. lowered slag viscosity,contributing to th. h.gh.efficiency of copper-slag separation for copper *** results provide new insigh.s into th. enh.nced in-situ enrich.ent of copper from mol-ten slag.

Tilted global solar irradiance in Bah.ain: an experimental study

In th. present work, tilted global solar irradiance data are presented and analysed, measured for a period of 1 year on th. campus of Bah.ain Polytech.ic, Kingdom of Bah.ain, from both.a fixed ph.tovoltaic panel and a moving one via a two-axis solar tracker. Th. fixed panel faces south.with.an angle of 26 degrees with.respect to th. h.rizontal, coinciding with.th. local geograph.cal latitude. Th. second panel is moved by two motors, controlled by a global positioning system and suitable software so th.t th. Sun's rays are perpendicular to th. panel surface. A pyranometer is installed on each.panel, recording th. tilted global solar irradiance, stored by using a data logger. Th. analysis of th. data obtained sh.ws a 33% solar energy gain on an annual basis for th. moving panel (2780 versus 2088 kWh.m2 on th. fixed panel). More importantly, in June, wh.n th. energy demand in Bah.ain is elevated due to th. increased residential cooling loads, th. solar energy received by th. moving panel is 54.7% h.gh.r compared with.th.t of th. fixed panel. On a percentage basis, th. increase in solar energy from th. moving panel is profound in th. early morning and late evening h.urs. Moreover, th. reduction in th. solar energy received by th. fixed panel from May to June does not appear in th. moving panel because of th. adjustable orientation of th. latter. Th.ough.ut th. year, th. mean daily solar power varies between 0.37 and 0.56 kW/m2 for th. fixed panel, and 0.45 and 0.70 kW/m2 for th. moving panel. In winter, solar energy fluctuations are elevated due to erratic weath.r conditions th.t present a peak standard deviation of 28% of th. corresponding mean. Th. data presented are useful for potential solar investments in Gulf countries. Tilted global solar irradiance data are measured and analysed for a period of 1 year on th. campus of Bah.ain Polytech.ic, Kingdom of Bah.ain, from both.a fixed ph.tovoltaic panel and a moving one via a two-axis solar tracker. A novel layered perovskite tantalate ph.sph.r Sr_(3)LaTa_(3)O_(12):Sm^(3+)(SLTO:Sm^(3+)) with.orange-red emission was obtained for th. first time via th. solid-ph.se synth.tic meth.d. Th. ph.se purity, surface morph.logy,element distribution and luminescent properties of th. SLTO:xSm^(3+)(x= 0.01 mol%-0.30 mol%) ph.sph.rs were investigated. Under 408 nm excitation, th. optimum doped SLTO:0.10Sm^(3+) ph.sph.r emits orangered ligh. at 598 nm with.th. h.gh.st emission peak(4G_(5/2)→6h.(7/2)). Th. critical energy transfer distance is 1.687 nm. Th. prepared SLTO:0.10Sm^(3+)ph.sph.r h.s excellent th.rmal stability with.temperature quench.ng temperature(T_(0.5)> 500 K) and h.gh.activation energy(E_(a)= 0.25 e V). Th.ough.calculation, th. ch.omaticity coordinates of all samples are concentrated in th. orange-red area, and th. color purity reach.s 99%. Th. fabricated wh.te ligh.-emitting diode(w-LED) h.s a good correlated color temperature(5132 K), a h.gh.R_(a)(89), and th. CIE ch.omaticity coordinates(0.340, 0.327). Consequently, th. superiority of orange-red-emitting tantalate SLTO:Sm^(3+) ph.sph.rs for w-LEDs is demonstrated.
