Advances in sodium-ion batteries at low-temperature: Challenges and strategies

With the continuing boost in the demand for energy storage,there is an increasing requirement for batteries to be capable of operation in extreme environmental conditions.Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs) have emerged as a highly promising energy storage solution due to their promising performance over a wide range of temperatures and the abundance of sodium resources in the earth's crust.Compared to lithiumion batteries(LIBs),although sodium ions possess a larger ionic radius,they are more easily desolvated than lithium ions.Fu rthermore,SIBs have a smaller Stokes radius than lithium ions,resulting in improved sodium-ion mobility in the electrolyte.Nevertheless,SIBs demonstrate a significant decrease in performance at low temperatures(LT),which constrains their operation in harsh weather conditions.Despite the increasing interest in SIBs,there is a notable scarcity of research focusing specifically on their mechanism under LT conditions.This review explores recent research that considers the thermal tolerance of SIBs from an inner chemistry process perspective,spanning a wide temperature spectrum(-70 to100℃),particularly at LT conditions.In addition,the enhancement of electrochemical performance in LT SIBs is based on improvements in reaction kinetics and cycling stability achieved through the utilization of effective electrode materials and electrolyte components.Furthermore,the safety concerns associated with SIBs are addressed and effective strategies are proposed for mitigating these issues.Finally,prospects conducted to extend the environmental frontiers of commercial SIBs are discussed mainly from three viewpoints including innovations in materials,development and research of relevant theoretical mechanisms,and intelligent safety management system establishment for larger-scale energy storage SIBs.

Towards overcoming obstacles of type Ⅱ photodynamic therapy:Endogenous production of light,photosensitizer,and oxygen

Conventional photodynamic therapy(PDT)approaches face challenges including limited light penetration,low uptake of photosensitizers by tumors,and lack of oxygen in tumor microenvironments.One promising solution is to internally generate light,photosensitizers,and oxygen.This can be accomplished through endogenous production,such as using bioluminescence as an endogenous light source,synthesizing genetically encodable photosensitizers in situ,and modifying cells genetically to express catalase enzymes.Furthermore,these strategies have been reinforced by the recent rapid advancements in synthetic biology.In this review,we summarize and discuss the approaches to overcome PDT obstacles by means of endogenous production of excitation light,photosensitizers,and oxygen.We envision that as synthetic biology advances,genetically engineered cells could act as precise and targeted“living factories”to produce PDT components,leading to enhanced performance of PDT.

Dimethyl phthalate damages Staphylococcus aureus by changing the cell structure, inducing oxidative stress and inhibiting energy metabolism

Dimethyl phthalate(DMP), used as a plasticizer in industrial products, exists widely in air,water and soil.Staphylococcus aureus is a typical model organism representing Gram-positive bacteria.The molecular mechanisms of DMP toxicology in S.aureus were researched by proteomic and transcriptomic analyses.The results showed that the cell wall, membrane and cell surface characteristics were damaged and the growth was inhibited in S.aureus by DMP.Oxidative stress was induced by DMP in S.aureus.The activities of succinic dehydrogenase(SDH) and ATPase were changed by DMP, which could impact energy metabolism.Based on proteomic and transcriptomic analyses, the oxidative phosphorylation pathway was enhanced and the glycolysis/gluconeogenesis and pentose phosphate pathways were inhibited in S.aureus exposed to DMP.The results of real-time reverse transcription quantitative PCR(RT-qPCR) further confirmed the results of the proteomic and transcriptomic analyses.Lactic acid, pyruvic acid and glucose were reduced by DMP in S.aureus, which suggested that DMP could inhibit energy metabolism.The results indicated that DMP damaged the cell wall and membrane, induced oxidative stress, and inhibited energy metabolism and activation in S.aureus.

The causes of recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) and fetal malformations are multifactorial and unclear in most cases. Environmental, maternal, and genetic factors have been shown to contribute to these defects. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) is widely used to detect genetic variations associated with human diseases and has recently been successfully applied to unveil genetic causes of unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion (URSA) and fetal malformations. Here, we review the current discovery and diagnosis strategies to identify the underlying pathogenic mutations of URSA and fetal malformations using WES technology and propose to further develop WES, both to advance our understanding of these diseases and to eventually lead to targeted therapies for reproductive disorders.

Grenvillian and early Paleozoic polyphase metamorphism recorded by eclogite and host garnet mica schist in the North Qaidam orogenic belt

The North Qaidam orogenic belt(NQOB) is generally considered to be an early Paleozoic ultrahigh pressure metamorphic belt,but increasing reports of the Neoproterozoic magmatic and metamorphic events indicate that the NQOB probably also experienced the assembly of the Rodinia.However,the Neoproterozoic evolution of the NQOB is not well constrained due to the sparse records and ambiguous nature of the Neoproterozoic metamorphism.In order to reveal the multi-orogenic history of the NQOB,an integrated study of petrology,phase equilibrium modelling and geochronology was conducted on an epidote eclogite and host garnet mica schist from the Yuka–Luofengpo terrane.New zircon and monazite U–Pb ages show that the protolith of the garnet mica schist was deposited during 994–920 Ma and experienced Neoproterozoic(920–915 Ma) and early Paleozoic(451–447 Ma) polyphase metamorphism together with the enclosed eclogite.Relic omphacite inclusions were first identified in garnet and early Paleozoic zircon domains from the garnet mica schist,which provide solid evidence for the early Paleozoic eclogite facies metamorphism of the mica schist.Similar early Paleozoic peak P–T conditions of >27.4 kbar/613–670 ℃ and 30.2–30.8 kbar/646–655 ℃ were obtained for the garnet mica schist and enclosed eclogite,respectively,indicating that eclogites and their host paragneisses in this region underwent continental deep subduction as a coherent metamorphic terrane in early Paleozoic.The peak P–T conditions of the Neoproterozoic metamorphism were roughly constrained at 7.7–12.0 kbar and 634–680 ℃ for the garnet mica schist,based on stability field of mineral inclusions in Neoproterozoic zircons domains in P–T pseudosection,the relic garnet core composition and Ti-in-zircon thermometer.The high thermal gradients(16–37 ℃/km) defined by presently our and previously reported P–T conditions indicate that the Neoproterozoic metamorphism likely occurred in continental collision setting at >945–890 Ma.Since the Grenvillian syn-orogenic granitic magmatism and

Touch Ablation of Lithium Dendrites via Liquid Metal for High-Rate and Long-Lived Batteries

High energy density lithium(Li)metal batteries have attracted great attention,but they are faced with challenges of cycling instability and safety hazards.Due to high activity and drastic volume changes of metallic Li,potential dendritic risks cannot be fully eliminated.Therefore,suppressing already existing Li dendrites must be evaluated.In addition,Li-active solids alloying with Li always face mechanical instability and fractures with cycling.Herein,we present touch ablation of dendrites by liquid metal,namely forming a defense layer on the electrode to directly react with the dendrites.Embrittlement,supercooling,and other liquid characteristics make the liquid gallium(Ga)exhibit continuous and reversible reactions with Li.The unique layout with a hierarchical porous structure inhibits upward growth of the dendrites.The protected Li||Li cells achieve stable cyclic performance even at 10 mA cm^(–2)and a large capacity of 5 mA h cm^(-2).

Reconstruction the Process of Partial Melting of the Retrograde Eclogite from the North Qaidam,Western China: Constraints from Titanite U-Pb Dating and Mineral Chemistry

Retrograde eclogite and garnet amphibolite of the Lüliangshan unit of the Shenglikou area,North Qaidam,were studied with emphasis on rutile and titanite.A special focus is on the formation of rutile and its corona of titanite(Ttn1)in retrograde eclogite and on coarse-grained titanite(Ttn2)from the garnet amphibolite.Using zirconium(Zr)-in-rutile and Zr-in-titanite thermometers,the temperatures estimated for the formation of an early generation of rutile are 823–884℃at 2.5–2.8 GPa,while 812–894℃at 1.3–1.5 GPa are derived for the formation of coronitic Ttn1 in the retrograde eclogite.Therefore,isothermal decompression must have occurred during exhumation,which also has triggered the partial melting of the retrograde eclogite.Ttn2 of the garnet amphibolite has high REE contents and high Th/U ratios,indicating that it is newly grown from a Ti,Ca,and LREE enriched anatectic melt derived from the partial melting of retrograde eclogite.LA-ICP MS U-Pb dating yields a lower intercept age of 423±4 Ma for Ttn2,which is consistent with the granulite-facies metamorphic age of the retrograde eclogite.Moreover,a temperature of 781–823℃at 1.0–1.2 GPa is obtained for Ttn2,which fits the P-T conditions of the HP granulite-facies metamorphic stage(P=1.07–1.24 GPa and T=774–814℃),and documents that the crystallization of the melt occurred at the granulite-facies stage at 423 Ma.The high amount of REE of the garnet amphibolite is a consequence of the formation of Ttn2 from the melt.The contents and ratios of Zr and Hf in rutile and Ttn2 differ from those in the garnet amphibolite,and the whole rock Zr/Hf ratios of retrograde eclogite and garnet amphibolite are both higher than the respective ratios in rutile and Ttn2,suggesting that rutile and titanite cannot be the major carriers of Zr and Hf accounting for the high whole rock Zr/Hf ratios.

Ultrasonic preparation of nano-nickel/activated carbon composite using spent electroless nickel plating bath and application in degradation of 2,6-dichlorophenol

Ni was effectively recovered from spent electroless nickel （EN） plating baths by forming a nano-nickel coated activated carbon composite. With the aid of ultrasonication, melamine- formaldehyde-tetraoxalyl-ethylenediamine chelating resins were grafted on activated carbon （MFT/AG）. PdC12 sol was adsorbed on MFT/AC, which was then immersed in spent electroless nickel plating bath; then nano-nickel could be reduced by ascorbic acid to form a nano-nickel coating on the activated carbon composite （Ni/AC） in situ. The materials present were carefully examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electro- chemistry techniques. The resins were well distributed on the inside and outside surfaces of activated carbon with a size of 120 ± 30 nm in MFT/AC, and a great deal of nano-nickel particles were evenly deposited with a size of 3.8 ± 1.1 nm in Ni/MFT. Moreover, Ni/AC was successfully used as a catalyst for ultrasonic degradation of 2.6-dichloronhenol.

目的探讨1例嵌合型18号染色体结构异常患者的核型。方法选取2019年10月因"结婚4年,未避孕未育2+年"就诊于北医三院生殖中心的1例不育症男性患者作为研究对象,收集其临床资料。取患者外周血样进行染色体核型分析、拷贝数变异(CNV)分析、荧光原位杂交(FISH)检测,同时取患者的精液样本进行单精子CNV分析。结果经检测,确定患者核型为mos 47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)[84]/46,XY,del(18)(q21q23)[9]/48,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)×2[6]/47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23×2)[1].ish 47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)[84]/46,XY,del(18)(q21q23)[9]/48,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)×2[6]/47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23×2)[1]del(18)(q21q23)(D18Z1+,18p+,18q+,WCP18+),r(18)(q21q23)(WCP18+),r(18)(q21q23×2)(WCP18+),CNV分析结果未见异常。单精子测序分析发现18条精子中9条为del(18q)(9/20),7条为dup(18q)×2(7/20),2条为dup(18q)×3(2/20),重复或缺失片段大小均为33 Mb。结论该患者携带的18号染色体结构合并数目异常临床比较罕见,尤其是在表型正常的携带者中检测到。通过细胞和分子遗传学的精准诊断,结合单精子拷贝数变异分析,可以进一步评估异常核型对配子生成的影响,从而对生育策略进行精准咨询。

CONSPECTUS:Liquid metal exhibits the unique advantages of both the liquid and metal,including excellent deformability,high thermal conductivity,and electrical conductivity.The exploration of liquid metal is a new opportunity and revolution for the application of metal materials,including the flexible devices,catalysis,microfluidic,and drug delivery.In addition to the above applications,the characteristics of excellent inclusive ability with the majority of the elements and abundant vacancies in the bulk make it a new type of reaction medium different from traditional aqueous and organic solutions,exhibiting great potential in the precise construction of materials.To date,the research of using liquid metal as a reaction system to synthesize materials is still in its infancy.When acting as a reaction system,the vacancies inside and the smooth layering surfaces without grain boundaries allow liquid metals to encapsulate heterogeneous atoms,confine the precursors in atomically thick layers and realize the self-limiting growth of 2D material.Besides,the good rheological property makes it possible to construct 2D arrays on its surface.Except for the properties mentioned above,as a kind of metal,its excellent electrical conductivity and ductility provide a new idea for the preparation of composite materials in the energy field.Indeed,liquid metals provide attractive prospects in manufacturing advanced materials including 2D materials and functional composite materials.Thus,this Account aims to focus on the controllable fabrication of 2D materials and functional composite materials by liquid metals.Based on the characteristics of the surface layering and solidification and of excellent fluidity,the self-limited growth and ordered arrangement of 2D materials on liquid metal surfaces can be achieved,which enriches the material structures and leads to new properties.By constructing an in situ synthesis and observation system,the growth and assembly behavior of 2D materials on the liquid metal can be observed directly.Combin
